Just when you think this will be another "meet-cute" book, you are pleasantly surprised at the depth and charm of this debut! Olive is a nurse and is terrified of flying when she inadvertently saves a man from dying on the plane. Of course this generates media attention which she hates, but it also puts her on one of the pilot's--Stella--radar. This will make Olive late for the marathon she is running until Stella volunteers to drive through the night to get her there. And so begins the odyssey of their love story which involves Olive's brother, Jake who is hospitalized with paralysis, her old girlfriend, Lindsay who isn't over her, and plenty of Swedish Fish (you'll see). Great debut and I look forward to more from Burke!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
I mean, we always love a fake dating trope. Always. But Fly With Me was such an exceptional, delightful example of just how good that trope can be. Even though our two leads occasionally find themselves in fraught situations, either trying to shore up the lie about their relationship or trying to just navigate the less pleasant aspects of their and each others lives, the book has an overall softness that was really appealing. No, Olive and Stella don't have an easy time of it on their way to falling in love, between miscommunications and Olive's really unpleasant family (among other things), but there's an earnestness in Fly With Me that I really love. This book has a lot of heart.
Fly With Me makes wonderful use of the fake dating trope in this sapphic tale of two women who are each battling their own demons.
The story deftly examines the intense pressure placed upon a caretaker’s shoulders, and the barriers that women still face in the workplace. But most of all, it’s an examination of love in all its iterations.
While I tend to enjoy dual POV in my romances, the author’s choice to write from Olive’s perspective was the right one. It is interesting to see Stella through this lens, and it’s interesting to delve into the heart of who Olive is.
This is a slow burn that steams up the page once it gets cooking. And there are really poignant moments of angst and reflection. Not everything is tied up in a little bow at the end, but Olive and Stella more than earn their HEA.
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for the ARC.
This book I found to be a very sweet sapphic love story that flawlessly, dealt with heavy topics weaved in throughout the story, Stella and Olive are two very interesting well developed characters they were very easy to root for. I couldn’t wait for them to get their happy ending, If you’re looking for a fake dating sapphic romance, that’s sweet, but also has a lot of depth to it. This is the perfect book for you.
ummm.. this was unexpectedly spicy and I loved it! I honestly thought Stella was Filipino this whole time and I was excited to read about a Filipino love interest until she called her grandpa abuelo and realized I was very wrong lol. I'm all about the opposites attract trope and this did not disappoint. Olive is all over the place while Stella is the organized, prim and proper character. I also appreciated the fact that both characters had their own personal things going on so it was more than just a romance.
Stella and Olive were a great couple (even though they were "faking" throughout most of the book) and I thought the plot that built up their relationship and the sub-plots around it were well done.
This was a very sweet LGBTQ+ romance book. Olive is on her first flight ever and saves a passenger from dying on the flight. Stella was the pilot on the plane. This book features fake dating. This book allows for relationship development among Olive and Stella and character/story development.
This book had everything,
A great back story for the characters, witty fun banter, Trauma, healing, crazy ex girlfriends, LGBTQIA themes, and even Disneyworld!
I really enjoyed all this book had to offer. It was such a refreshing Rom-Com.
The characters were well plotted and had incredible thorough back stories.
The spicy was SPICY. The Grief, turmoil and healing is respectfully written.
this book was just all around a wonderful read.
Thank you Netgalley and St. Martins Press for this ARC

This book is so much more than just a fake dating romance book, it also covers many heavy topics and handles them well. Grief and loss depiction is a major theme in this book, including strained family dynamics.
It bothered me how the family conflict was not resolved; however, this is very realistic. In real life, there is rarely closure or a clean resolution with complicated family dynamics, and the author portrayed this well. I can tell the author works in the medical field because the healthcare aspect was very realistic.
Overall, I enjoyed the book, but it focused a bit too heavily on the tough topics and not enough on the romance for my personal preference.

A super solid debut, with a great story, steam and everything you want from a romance.
Am I biased as a Disney adult? Maybe, but the beginning hooked me right away and I couldn't get enough!
This was a truly remarkable book! It was a romance with not only heart but also a lot of depth. I think the author did a fantastic job writing Stella and Olive; they’re so interesting and likable. I loved following their story and their lives as they dove deeper into themselves and their feelings. The connect between the two was instant and I was immediately hooked from the first scene. This book shows that you can be determined and flawed at the same time; smart but also struggling. I loved the different careers, the little spice, and the big old heart of this novel. This was my first book by this author but it definitely won’t be my last.
Never having flown before, Olive is on the verge of a panic attack when a flight attendant makes an announcement asking for a medical professional. An ER nurse, she answers the call and saves the life of a man. When the video starts generating positive press for the airline, the co-piolet, Stella, approaches Olive with an arrangement. Olive is to pretend to be Stella’s girlfriend, and Stella can finally get a promotion. Surprisingly, Olive agrees and dives into Stella’s amusing three-ring binder guide to fake dating. But, as their feeling becomes more and more real, outside forces are trying to derail their romance. Will they have a happily ever after, or will they crash and burn?
When I read the blurb for Fly with Me, I was instantly intrigued and wanted to read it. Since St. Martin’s Press had it as a Read Now book, I downloaded it. I am glad that I did because I loved this book. This book is so much more than what is mentioned in the blurb.
The main storyline of Fly with Me centers around Olive, Stella, and their fake romance. I found that storyline to be amusing and heartbreaking. It was also well-written and kept me glued to the book. I was rooting for Olive and Stella. I wanted them to have their happily ever after.
The storyline with Olive, her family, and their fight over the care of her brother was heartbreaking. Olive’s brother was pronounced brain-dead after saving the life of a child. Olive, a nurse who controls her brother’s finances and medical decisions, had decided to pull life support. But her mother didn’t want it, got a lawyer, and fought to keep her brother alive. Meanwhile, she blasted Olive as someone who only wanted her brother’s money and wanted him to die so she could get it. It caused a massive rift in the family, with everyone agreeing with Olive’s mother. While I sympathized with Olive’s mother, I thought she was a nasty piece of work. There was nothing redeemable about her. As for Olive’s father, I thought that maybe he would be reasonable, but nope, he wasn’t. I was beyond angry at what he requested of Olive at the end of the book. I couldn’t believe what he told her not to do and how he treated her afterward.
The storyline with Olive, Lindsay, their on/off relationship, and Olive’s mental health was interesting. I thought that Lindsay was a piece of work. She was verbally abusive to Olive, and when Olive started fake dating Stella, she became a full-fledged stalker. Lindsay downplayed Olive’s anxiety disorder and her depression. What she said to Stella about them was vile. I should have seen what Lindsay did coming, but I didn’t. I wasn’t surprised, though. There were hints about what she was capable of throughout the book.
The romance angle of Fly with Me was sweet. Both Olive and Stella did not want a relationship. Olive was dealing with a crazy ex (Lindsay), and Stella was so career-driven that she didn’t have time for a relationship. But this book showed that falling in love often happens when people least want or need it. I loved watching their relationship progress. There were roadblocks (a major one at the end of the book), but I liked seeing Olive and Stella work through them.
Olive and Stella had immediate chemistry, which the author built on. So, when they finally had sex, the scene exploded. The author was also very stingy with the sex scenes (there were two detailed scenes).
The end of Fly with Me had me in tears, from everything that Olive had to endure with her family and Lindsay to what happened with her and Stella. I loved that Olive decided to get help with her mental health (minor spoiler here). The epilogue was perfect. The book couldn’t have ended on a better note.
I would recommend Fly with Me to anyone over 21. There is language, mild violence, and graphic sexual situations.
Many thanks to St. Martin’s Press, St. Martin’s Griffin, NetGalley, and Andie Burke for allowing me to read and review this ARC of Fly with Me. All opinions stated in this review are mine.
This was such a fun, sapphic read staring a pilot who is afraid of anything getting in the way of her dreams and a nurse who fears flying. Olive and Stella meet on a plane before take off because Olive saves a man going into shock. Thus their fake relationship begins.
Fake dating is my favorite because there is so much angst between the two characters. This book had me laughing and crying along with Olive and Stella.
Fly with Me is a debut novel that I am so thankful to have received from Netgalley to read and review.
This is a steamy Sapphic romance featuring a pilot and an ER nurse who meet in the sky when a passenger on a flight has an allergic reaction requiring medical assistance. Olive jumps into action to save the passenger and catches the attention of Stella.
There is a lot more to this one then romance. Both main characters have a lot of family issues as well. I loved that it was such a beautiful story that captured my attention. I only wish that there had been a bit more with Olive's family. The key pieces were there but the ending fell flat for me on this storyline. Olive and Stella's romance was fantastic though!
What a great debut romance!! I adored both Olive and Stella in equal measure, and they were both so much more complex and developed than I was anticipating going into a ~300-page romance! Olive’s family was uncomfortable but incredibly real, and I appreciate that Andie Burke didn’t shy away from having hard scenes in an otherwise sweet romance.
Solid 4 stars, I can’t wait to read more from the author! Thank you St Martin’s & netgalley for the ARC!
Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book!
I love when a book is fun and over the top without taking itself too seriously. This one is exactly that. I don’t often find romcom books that I enjoy, and especially not ones with queer representation or mental health reps. So this was an absolute treat.
The book follows Olive and Stella, a nurse and pilot who collide while olive saves a passengers life aboard Stella’s flight. Throw in a fake dating trope, shitty parents, and a hilarious gay sidekick and you’ve got a winner.
I loved loved loved this.
A nurse who’s scared of flying and a pilot meet-cute. An impromptu offer of kindness. A quick weekend in Disney World enjoying Food & Wine. A first kiss. Is it over that fast or just beginning?
The start of this book held me in its grasp as I experienced our main character’s anxiety and fears firsthand. As the book progresses, our main character Olive finds herself agreeing to a fake-dating scenario that she thinks will allow her to spend more time with her new crush and also potentially help both their careers. Their lives tumble together, and they slowly learn they are both struggling with their own versions of anxiety, family weight, trauma, and career paths. Their attraction is clear, but can they both fight through their anxiety to find happiness?
I’m obsessed with the fact that the author used her real-world experience as an RN to create our main character – the authenticity of her work and experience shines through so vividly throughout this story. It’s an amazing testament to the difficulties and real-world situations our nurses see every day.
While I loved the essence of this story, I do feel there could have been a bit more editing for transitions and the book could have been a bit shorter for a romance. However, I loved the additional depth we received as well and I think it was a beautifully crafted debut novel. I can’t wait to see what the author releases next!
4.5 stars.
Thank you to St. Martin’s Press and NetGalley for an E-ARC copy of this book.
This was such a sweet debut novel! The ER nurse descriptions were so well done and accurate. I adored the opposites attracts and fake dating as always.
There was a bit too much drama for me but overall I really enjoyed this and felt it was a well done debut!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I loved this debut romance by Andie Burke. It is a romance between an airline pilot and a nurse that involves some fake dating and some real chemistry. It is probably my favorite sapphic romance I’ve read. Both Stella and Olive are going through some heavy personal stuff, which I think sets the stage for them needing to find comfort in each other while at the same time not feeling ready to be fully vulnerable. Olive struggles with anxiety, and Stella with a perfectionist need to control her life as much as possible. They are also both strong women who are competent in their jobs. I found them both to be relatable and lovable. All of the characters were well written.
I first found @andiereadsandwrites as a bookstagrammer with gorgeous rainbow shelves, good taste in books, a fellow enneagram 6, and lover of ultra fine tip pens. It has been so fun and encouraging to follow her journey of becoming a published author. So congratulations to Andie on this one! I can’t wait to see what else she writes!
I loved this book. It was so cute seeing the characters interact and so deep in some of their experiences with grief and loss. I’m a sucker for sapphic fake-dating and this book delivered. I thought the main characters emotions felt so real , and while some of the things that happened weren’t entirely realistic, I could definitely see the part of having the ex-girlfriend effect the main characters mental state. While one could argue that if there was more communication a lot of this book could be resolved, I think it had a reason for being there.
This book made me want to cry for many different reasons and I love how it came together in the end.
Thank you to Netgalley for gifting me this ARC.
