Let's start #sapphicseptember with Fly with Me, which comes out on Tuesday! I got some kind of bug when I was working in my classroom last week and it took me OUT over the weekend. I could read about one chapter of this book and then I'd need a nap. And it wasn't that the book was boring! Thankfully it wasn't pneumonia, which hits one of the main characters. Anyway, I channeled my inner turtle and made slow but steady progress through Fly with Me. This is a fake dating, slow burn romance between a pilot motivated to make captain and a charge nurse afraid of flying. They have an amazing meet cute en route to Walt Disney World, which leads to their story being featured by Disney, the Today show, and People magazine. Of course there is a manipulative ex, family members with serious illnesses, their own mental health, and some unusual family drama that all try to get in the way, but these ladies handle everything together with kindness and love. I particularly liked the Miss Congeniality reference (among many other wonderful movie references).

I loved this book! It was my first sapphic romance and I ate it up. I loved watching the relationship (not relationship?) that formed between Olive and Stella. I couldn’t get over how much they were really there for each other even though the were fake dating. I’d definitely recommend this to my friends!

Such a lovely little story. Queer fake dating trope, but this one with elements of anxiety, depression, self doubt, and end-of-life family drama.

Olive and Stella share a mid-flight scare followed by few days of blissful Florida sun and adventure, only to be brought back together with a fake dating proposal Olive can’t pass up. Stella is a pilot looking to advance her career and make her ailing dad proud, and Olive is an anxiety ridden nurse and power of attorney for her dying brother.

The reluctance in sharing real feelings drove me nuts per the usual fake dating story, but in a fun way. Both main characters were likable and well developed. I was rooting for the cute couple, while hoping both of them could get over their own personal struggles. No closed door romance here, plenty of spice for those who love it

The one thing that I wish had more closure brought to it, was Olive’s family and the way they treated her. I was searching for more closure there, but I guess sometimes things like these are never truly resolved.

Quick cute read, would recommend!

I was really enjoying this read to find out the main characters live in my city! Then I was excited! The main characters are Olive and Stella. Olive is taking a trip on a plane for the very first time when a medical emergency happens onboard to one of the passengers. Olive, being a nurse, volunteers to help. With quick thinking, she realizes the main is experiencing anaphylactic shock due to peanuts. Other passengers video her and it quickly becomes viral. However, due to the emergency, the plane is diverted. Olive is congratulated by everyone onboard, including the pilot, Stella. There are no planes going to Orlando until the next day and Olive is ready to sleep at the airport. Stella happens to see her and offers to drive her to Orlando to help her get to a race she is running the next day. The woman get to Orlando and know each other more. Stella even meets Olive at the finish line of the race.
A few days later Stella asks Olive if she will be her fake girlfriend. Since the video went viral of Olive, the airline Stella works for is seeing a surge in ticket sales. Stella thinks if she is linked with Olive this might increase her chances of getting the promotion she has been trying to get for years.
You know how most of these fake girlfriend novels end up, but I won't give any spoilers!
This is a wonderful book and I would highly recommend.

This book is so stinking cute! Thank you to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC! Okay so this book is adorable! Obsessed with Stella and olive! I think the way they met was such a great set up for the story and I love a good fake dating trope! I didn’t love that there was no sort of wrap up or resolution or any glimpse of hope with Olives family and I think even Stella’s dad. I felt like that was brushed past. But the love story was so cute that I was reading it for them!

This was so cute! The characters, while never specifically labeled, read as very neurodiverse and I found them easy to identify with and to root for. Recommend for fans of The Kiss Quotient, The Fiancée Farce, and Ever After Always.

I thought that this book had an interesting premise with Olive fake dating a pilot despite her fear of flying. I feel like the book didn’t really deliver on this. I was expecting more hijinks caused by the fake relationship and even more of Stella helping Olive to overcome her fear. Instead there were a lot conversations about things more likely to kill you than a plane crash and a relationship that seemed kind of manipulative.

From the start of the book the chemistry between Olive and Stella seems strong. They might not have a lot in common but they obviously care for each other and make a good couple. The issue is that Stella keeps telling Olive that she doesn’t do relationships and doesn’t want to hurt her despite doing everything that a loving girlfriend would do. It comes across like Stella is manipulating Olive by sleeping with her and doing “couple-y” things but making Olive feel bad for wanting to be in a real relationship.

Olive’s life is a straight up mess and it never really gets better. She eventually gets the girl and gets over her fear of flying (no thanks to Stella btw). Other than that she’s never able to win a battle for her brother or reconcile with her family, and her job clearly doesn’t value her or her coworkers. She also isn’t able to help Stella accomplish her goal of becoming a captain. It just felt like she couldn’t catch a break and the reader doesn’t get to see her get a real win which was a little depressing.

I did enjoy Olive’s relationship with Derek. They were very relatable friends. I liked that Derek always had her back without trying to control her. Everybody needs a friend like Derek.

Overall, this book left me feeling a little empty as though it was missing half of the ending. I really wanted more for Olive.

I DNF'd this book at 10% because I just could not handle the inaccuracies with what happened on the plane and the timeline.

Olive Murphy has been living her life having the worst luck. It’s a truthful joke when she says she’s the embodiment of Murphy’s Law - basically, if something can go wrong for her personally, it will. She lives a busy life, being an ER nurse out of a toxic relationship as well as being cut off from her family. However, by chance, she meets Stella, a pilot on the first flight she took…that she saved a life on. Oh, Olive is terrified of flying. Stella offers to help her get to her destination (running a marathon) a few hours away, and then asks her to be her fake girlfriend. Will this work to benefit them both in their careers, or will Olive insist on Murphy’s Law yet again, crushing any chance of feelings?

Olive and Stella were fun characters to get to know. Olive, as the main protagonist, is really dealing with a lot. It did take me a little bit to understand her as a character, but as I learned more about her, I really emphasized with her. There is a casual underlying theme of happiness and if it’s something people deserve, especially with all the curveballs life can throw at someone. Overall, I did really enjoy this book and would definitely recommend it. Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC!

"Fly with Me" by Andie Burke is the kind of book that hooks you from the very first chapter. From moment one, I was enraptured with Olive and Stella's story, obsessed with finding out whether their fake dating scenario would pay off for them. I *love* a good fake dating scenario, and this story really handles the situation well! This book has a lot of heart, some drama, some tears, and some laughs. The connection between Stella and Olive starts out slow but ramps up as the story heads towards its conclusion. Personally, I think it veered on the side of lust more than the side of love, but it didn't turn me off or away from the story. Some of the miscommunications between Olive and Stella bothered me, but not so much that it hindered my enjoyment of the book. I loved the side characters, including Olive's best friend and Stella's dad. There are also some truly deplorable characters here, like Olive's ex-girlfriend and Olive's awful mother. All of these characters are extremely well-written and fully flushed out. They all feel lived-in as characters, and I appreciate that they feel realistic. Also, this is not just a surface-level story. It also deals with some very heavy, very deep subject matters, including sexism, misogyny, homophobia, car accidents, traumatic brain injuries, a fear of flying, panic attacks, long-term illnesses like Parkinson's, and death. The storyline involving Olive's brother broke my heart. It even made me tear up. My heart broke for Olive as she's torn between doing what's best for her brother and letting her mom have her final goodbye the way she wants it (even though she's totally in the wrong). As someone with an intense fear of flying, I related to this story on a deep, deep level! All in all, this is a cute story that is deceptively deep. It has wonderful characters and contains terrific chemistry and banter. Chelsea Stephens brings these characters to life with her excellent audiobook narration.

Olive is an Emergency Department nurse on her very first flight to Disney when an announcement comes over the intercom asking for a doctor on a plane. No one responds, causing her to raise her hand and lend her assistances. Once the flight is diverted to Atlanta, the pilot asks to meet her and Olive is taken back. She’s gorgeous with eyes to get lost in. Stella is the pilot and offers to drive Olive to Orlando once she hears Olive’s reasonings on why she has to be there. That’s just the beginning for these two. They find out they live in the same city, miles apart from one another. Once in Orlando, they discover video of Olive’s heroics have gone viral, causing the Stella to come up with an epic plan - they become fake girlfriends to mutually benefit their situations. But will it end in heartache or the start of something new?

This book was a fast and fantastic read. I could relate to both Stella and Olive in different parts within the book. I laughed, cried, and truly enjoyed this book. The cover was what made me interested in the book but Stella and Olive’s story is what made me eagerly turn the pages trying to figure out what was going to happen next. Truly recommend this story if you’re looking for a sweet love story involving conquering fears and standing up for yourself and your career.

I totally thought this was going to be a sweet and fun romcom, but boy was i wrong. This book had me crying my eyes out the last 1/4 of the book! I really enjoyed it and it had a TON of representation!

What a fantastic debut from Andie Burke! This F/F slow-burn fake dating romance hit all the right spots for me. It's so sweet yet has so much depth and serious issues addressed that it has the perfect amount of heft to go with the fun relationship. I loved Olive and Stella and all of their issues, and the supporting characters were fantastic. Except Lindsay, the perfect villain. I look forward to reading whatever Andie Burke writes next. Fly With Me is an exceptionally sweet love story - of loving oneself, of loving one’s family, and of loving one another.

Olive and Stella meet under an insane circumstance - on afraid of flying Olive’s first flight, she heroically saves someone’s life in a medical emergency. And Stella, as the pilot, ends up being Olive’s savior as well when she drives her to Disney for her marathon. As these two agree to a fake dating scheme to help get Stella’s career kicked into overdrive, real feelings becoming confusing and pressures from personal family dramas threaten to blow the whole scenario up. A sapphic, fake dating, slow burn - Fly With Me has incredible representation seamlessly woven into the plot of a who will fall first love story.

I especially loved the way Andie Burke handled the medical representation throughout the novel. I felt like this was one of those rare books that addresses serious issues and concerns regarding some medical conditions in a way that reads very real to a persons true experience. For me, Stella’s Celiac exposures issues that she discussed resonated as I have a food allergy as well, and when she was speaking to how people never understand, well I get it.

I loved Stella and Olive as a couple - and this was such a pleasure to read. I’m excited to see what is next from Andie Burke!

This was a really cute Sapphic romance. It follows an ER nurse and a pilot through the trials and tribulations of dating and relationships. Relationships are something they both carry some baggage around, but having a relationship is something that looks good for both of them right now. Olive saved a man's life on her flight, and it is generating big news for Stella's airline. Stella desperately wants to make Captain in her male dominated pilot profession. It just so happens that Olive and Stella have a connection, and Stella proposes that they use it to their advantage by fake dating.

This was a bit on the angsty and dramatic side for my tastes. While I loved Olive and Stella together, there were a bit too many dramatic plotlines and tropes in the mix. You had Olive's brother, her family, her ex, her mental health, and her relationship with Stella and I think a few of them were a bit underdeveloped and left unresolved. Alone these are all great topics to explore, but I wish the author had chosen one or two to really dig into in addition to the romance I would have liked to see a resolution with the ex and the family, but I personally didn't feel like we really got closure on those items. I also wanted more of Stella's dad, he was delightful! I did however feel like her relationship with Stella had great development and we really got to see Olive and Stella grow both as individuals and as a couple as their relationship went from fake to something more.

Overall I thought this was well written and loved the main characters. This does deal with some heavy topics. I also appreciated that this was written by a nurse (my mom is a retired nurse) and that she didn't shy away from the tough topics. This is a solid debut and I look forward to reading more from the author in the future.

Unfortunately, I do not remember a detail from this one at all. It was really forgettable for me, so it probably wasn't worth it, which is really unfortunate because I always try to hype up sapphic books!

4.5! Oh how this book has a special place in heart. I didn't even realize that this story was over 300+ long I was so into it, the tension of it all can be sliced with a knife! The pull between Olive and Stella is so strong the way Stella was being so girlfriend-ly with Olive even though they're just fake dating and had made it clear, was so so freaking sweet (The Vicks, super relatable). I've laughed a whole lot, the humor is top notch and the smut is *Chef kiss*. Not only that but the representation that Olive and Stella bring are amazing, I really do think they work together so well and they compliment each other. Reading each character grow throughout with career, family, and dealing with past exes and themselves made this even more wholesome. Amazing Debut book and will buy whatever this author puts out! Can't wait for more to come!
