Andie Burke does a phenomenal job with her debut novel.
Both characters, Stella and Olive were extremely likable. The novel mainly follows Olive in a third person format, while adding in internal monologs that makes Olive relatable.
I am a reader who has been spoiled with dual POVs from both main characters, so seeing a different formatted love story was refreshing.
Some things I wasn't a fan of was the numerous pop-culture references and the amount of Type A personality mentions.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and will read it again in the future!

Olive has a lot of fear and anxiety, including a fear of flying. On her first ever plane trip, there’s a medical emergency and, as a nurse, she volunteers to help and saves a man’s life. One of the pilots volunteers to drive Olive to Orlando after their flight was diverted to Atlanta so that Olive can run the half marathon for her brother. When the pilot, Stella, asks if Olive will be her fake girlfriend so she can hopefully make captain at her airline, she agrees even though she’s afraid her real feelings for the pilot will end in heartbreak.
It was a cute premise, but some of the plot seemed repetitive. I also didn’t understand why Lindsay was so determined to mess with Olive. It has a lot of elements of an HEA romance, but the conflicts could have been stronger. It was a lot of miscommunication or lack of communication that caused the issues.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Olive is hoping she forgets her fear of flying when getting on the airplane. On the flight she uses her nursing skills to help a passenger. She meets the pilot who she likes. I enjoyed the different characters in this book.

I thought this book was really cute. The characters are interesting and unique, the plot is interesting, and the context is slowly revealed.

Olive is a nurse who has a phobia of flying. On her first flight ever she saves someone’s life, and goes viral. However, the flight got rerouted and she won’t make the Disney marathon she is doing for her brother. The pilot of that plane, Stella, offers to drive her instead. As they travel and get to know each other, they find a camaraderie and then have to pretend date.

Listen, fake dating as a trope is just phenomenal and this did not disappoint. It was a good book with interesting characters. They both have things going on in their personal lives, but are able to find support in each other. It was a really cute story.

CW: death, critical injury, family disowning, phobias, terminal illness

Thank you to NetGalley, Andie Burke, and Sr. Martin's Press for the ARC of Fly With Me.

As Andie Burke's debut novel, this is such a fun read! It's a charming story, filled with thoughtful, clever dialogue and heartwarming characters. It's a slow burn romance that had me totally endeared to the two characters by the end of the novel. If you love the fake dating trope, this book is a must read! It's a sweet, fun romcom and I would highly recommend it.

I am so glad I requested this ARC! What a delightful, quick romance. I'm in the middle of the most travel I've done since 2019, which is the perfect time to read about queer women who meet on an airplane. I found myself relating to both main characters, Olive and Stella, at several points through the novel. Also, I found myself crying more than I anticipated! Family stuff and illnesses are sad y'all! Heed those CWs if you're not down to read about end-of-life care or (separately) Parkinson's. My only criticism here is I wish the ending had maybe 20 more pages of closure for Olive's situation and the main conflict. But otherwise, I had a blast and look forward to more from Andie Burke! Definitely add this to your list when it releases in September!!

3.5 stars. Fly with Me is Andie Burke's debut novel. This story showcases fear, grief and mental illness as well as comedic relief, and for a debut novel, I think Andie did an excellent job portraying all of it well. The pacing could be improved, especially towards the end and the resolutions; however, I really enjoyed both the main characters and their personalities, even if they were quite similar. It was enjoyable but repetitive. If you have any sort of grief with hospitals - don't read this. I think it's quite a triggering read if you're in that head state. Would recommend it to a specific audience.

I loved Fly With Me! First time author Andie Burke delivers with a charming, sweet story filled with real life anxieties and fears. Olives fear of flying was intimately relatable as was Stellas drive to prove herself in her field. I laughed, I cried and I wrote down quotes. Grab yourself some Swedish Fish on Sept. 5th, and prepare yourself for Andie Burkes takeoff.

This book was exactly what I needed. So beautifully deep and tragic, but also really uplifting. I really don't feel like doing too deep into everything that I liked, just trust that I loved it.

5star
I will now add Andie Burke to my list of favorite authors.
What a great story. It's about...sooo much. It's not just a slow burn romance, it's mostly about life choices. Many types of choices. And it's all very interesting and heartbreaking.
There are many surprises. Some good, some bad. All very realistic. Dialog is clever, sincere, humorous and natural.
But I want the author to know....I want to shack Mom and Dad and slap Lindsey. There, now I feel better!
I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I received this book complimentary from NetGalley but all opinions are my own.

What a little delight of a book! Olive and Stella were so fleshed out and interesting (I would have loved even more a dual perspective!!). Olive is like my dream woman on paper. Rude that she is a fictional character rather than a live human. The story was full and rich. The settings were interesting and fun. The book as a whole was a lovely, detailed, heart-eyes-inducing smile of a book. Highly recommend - especially if you love queer couples!

Fly with Me was a compelling read, which I ripped through, wanting to see what happened next in this fake dating romance story between Stella and Olive. Stella wants to get ahead at work, and Olive is willing to help so that she can spend more time with Stella. At the same time, Olive is grieving her brother and the loss of her family over following her brother's wishes. Can they pull it off? Will it become more?

HOWEVER, I should have paid more attention to the author's trigger warning notes about family hospital situations. I am choosing not to give a rating because I could not sink into the story in the same way I normally do, having to mildly dissociate from the story to avoid touching my own grief and family hospital stories. Please take care of yourself if you also have similar events in your life.

Note: I received a free pdf review copy thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, but reviews and opinions are my own.

I was so excited to start reading this book, I started it the second I was able to download it from NetGalley. This was a super sweet romance with a lot of depth. I really loved both Olive and Stella and I felt that both these characters and their relationship had such strong development throughout the story. The fake dating trope slowly becoming one of my favorites and I thought it was done so well in this book! Also the fact that Olive hates flying and Stella is a pilot felt like the perfect opposites attract story line. The slow burn was perfect for these two characters. The banter was also so fun to read and the pop culture references were fantastic!

Olive's internal monologue was interesting to read about and often felt relatable as she worked through her anxieties. I really loved how anxiety was portrayed in this book, with both characters working through some of their struggles. I loved how both Olive and Stella coped in different ways and how it showed that no two people react to anxiety in the same way and how different coping mechanisms work. I loved that Olive had a support system in her coworkers and friends and how Stella was close to her father. As the book went on, I also loved that Olive and Stella started to trust and be there for each other and I felt that was one of the strongest aspects of their relationship. Overall, I really enjoyed reading Olive and Stella's story and I found myself rooting for them throughout!

If you're looking for a sweet and charming romcom, I would highly recommend this book! It's a great debut and I literally cannot wait to read what Andie Burke writes next!! This book comes out on September 5th, so definitely get your preorders in!

Fly with Me is a debut novel and did a great job demonstrating fear, mental illness and grief. The beginning was very compelling as it started out on a plane, the anticipation and suspense surrounding Olive saving a man's life was well crafted.

However, since this is a debut there were some pacing issues, I feel like the towards the end it was a bit rushed and somewhat unfinished when it came to olive's family situation. I really enjoyed both MC's, they were just awfully similar in my opinion which I am not used to when reading. I kind of think their personalities were mashed together at certain points. Overall, it was an enjoyable read, it just got kind of repetitive.

I would definitely recommend this book to a very specific audience.

This book is, in one word, adorable. The author did a great job at building believable personalities for both MCs, flaws included, while still making them likable enough for us to root for.

One thing that especially shone was the balance of comedy and serious family tones through the book, which is especially impressive given this is her debut novel.

The only thing I wish is there would have been more of a physical description for Olive, ie hair and eye color. It can be difficult for the reader to picture the character in their mind if the physical description isn’t established early.

Other than that, very well done and I am looking forward to this authors next book! 4.5 stars

Fly With Me is a great debut novel. I enjoyed the fake dating trope. This book handles quite a few heavy themes that I think were handled pretty well for romance. Some sections were a bit stiff, but overall it was a pretty good story.

Synopsis (It's a fiction book, so it helps…from Netgalley, the provider of the book for me to review.)
******************************************************************************
A sparkling and steamy opposites-attract romance, Fly with Me by Andie Burke is filled with sharp banter and that sweet, swooping feeling of finding “the one” when and where you least expect it.
A one-way ticket to love or a bumpy ride ahead?
Flying-phobic ER nurse Olive Murphy is still gripping the armrest from her first-ever take-off when the pilot announces an in-flight medical emergency. Olive leaps into action and saves a life, but ends up getting stuck in the airport hours away from the marathon she's running in honour of her brother. Luckily for her, Stella Soriano, the stunning type-A copilot, offers to give her a ride.
After the two spend a magical day together, Stella makes a surprising request: Will Olive be her fake girlfriend?
A video of Olive saving a life has gone viral and started generating big sales for Stella's airline. Stella sees their union as the perfect opportunity to get to the boys' club executives at her company who keep overlooking her for a long-deserved promotion. Realizing this arrangement could help her too, Olive dives into memorizing Stella’s comically comprehensive three-ring-binder guide to fake dating. As the two grow closer, what’s supposed to be a ruse feels more and more real. Could this be the romantic ride of their lives, or an epic crash and burn?

A great little LGBTQIA (did I get that right? It changes so often....) romance that was funny as heck: I would expect an engineer to have a three-ring-binder guide to fake dating as they are so anal but a pilot makes sense to have that as well. (and they don't have the "engineering attitude"!) Well written and not .. ummm ... "filthy"... so I can see recommending it to my more conservative readers who are still not over any of those fifty shades of grey that were tossed at them.

Fly with Me is a debut novel exploring themes of fear, mental illness, being a caregiver, and grief. The author weaves a lot of personal experiences from working as a nurse during the pandemic into the novel in a way that only makes it better. I enjoyed the romance and found the characters likable and refreshing.

This is a debut and it reads like one. There were some pacing issues, emotional beats that felt rushed or unearned. A bit of a muddy middle and other such things that come with a new novel. The beginning was excellent and drew me in almost immediately.

I hope to read more from this author in the future!

I really liked Olive.

However, in my opinion, the plot and execution of the story was a bit messy for me. The texting and dialogue, for example, seemed a bit stilted. And the noncommunication breakup is never my thing.

Overall, though, Olive's voice came through. Her struggle is real, especially with anxiety, and she deserves a happy ending just like each of us. In the end, all each of us wants is someone to be there.

"Magical romance? This kind of thing - sparks and fantasy - it isn't real. I've never believed it existed. Not for me."

"If there's one thing I learned, it's that I shouldn't wait about telling people how I feel."
