This book was a cute fun read but it also handled the heavier topics such as grief very well. The characters are likable. Part of the books where a bit boring and hard to read but overall I enjoyed it.
I really enjoyed this book! I think it was so much more then just a sapphic romance. The discussions of grief, family, sexism + homophobia are so important! The characters were relatable + the banter was top notch! Can't wait to read more by this author!
Fly with Me by Andie Burke is a fun read focusing on Olive and Stella and how they find their way together. This book had a good story and appealing characters and all in all was a good read.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Fly with Me is available now.
I really loved the description and cover.. I was let down unfortunately. There was nothing in the book I liked in my opinion. I was bored the whole time. I wanted to DNF this around 50 pages but I kept going hoping that it would pick up but it did not unfortunately.. this wasn’t for me but others may enjoy it..
I LOVED this book-- it's so heartfelt and sweet and funny. The characters were flawed but likeable. I felt very seen by these messy, neurotic queer girls!
Thanks to St Martin's Press and Netgalley for this advanced copy.
This book really tugged at my heartstrings, especially as it got towards the end, and definitely had me in my feels. Olive and Stella's story is so sweet while also dealing with such incredible sadness and at times I really felt for them as they tried to navigate their ridiculous "fake" relationship on top of their long-term caregiving and drama. But in the end, I loved the absurd premise of the beginning and how the author took that and grew the characters to a place of understanding.
My only complaint was that it felt like there were too many subplots bouncing around this book and when they all came to a head in the third act it felt like too much piling on. I think one less would have served the plot fine; maybe cut the heinous ex? I don't know, it felt like a lot at points and there was plenty to go around plotwise.
Regardless, I loved this and can't wait to read more from Burke.
A cute Sapphic read! If you want a fun, cute sapphic romance, you've come to the right place. This book grabbed my attention from the beginning. I really liked it!
DNF at 50%. The pace of this one was just too slow for me, and although both of the main characters were very likeable on their own, I didn’t care if or how they wound up together. The chemistry was lacking to say the least.
I tried on multiple occasions to read this book since I have been following the author for a long time. Unfortunately, I was unable to connect with the main character, even with me being a nurse. It was impossible to not want to slap her in the face.
Unfortunately on the last flight I took, there was no medical emergency requiring a diversion that led to me meeting a hot pilot that offered to drive me to my destination, who I would subsequently run into at a later time and offer to fake date for reasons that don’t make complete sense but end up leading to me falling in love…
Luckily for Olive, that is exactly what happened to her in Fly With Me! This was a very sweet story of two people struggling with family and emotional baggage, but manage to overcome it when they realize they are better together. Stella and Olive were so good together!
There were some medico-legal issues surrounding Olive’s brother that didn’t make sense buuut those issues were a central part to Olive’s conflict with her family and did help build her character.
I’ll definitely be reading more from Burke in the future!
Thank you NetGalley and Griffin for this arc!
I enjoyed starting this book but it wasn't enough to keep me reading. I really wanted to like it. It very well may be me and not the book. I think it needed a little more unique aspects...I felt I've read it many times even though I really liked the two main characters.
DNF, I'm over halfway and the should we, we shouldn't have the fake dating situation is annoying me. By now we should be committing to the fake dating and having fun lol. The ex-girlfriend coming back still is also annoying me.
It was an AMAZING book!! I loved it and would 200% read again! The character development is so good, I really felt like I was there with them in the story
This was my first book by this author and I enjoyed it. I am looking forward to reading more books from her.
I really liked both Olive and Stella's characters. It took me a little while to get invested in the story since I don't read books in third person POV very often, but once I got the hang of it again, I was interested in seeing where their story would go.
📖My Thoughts📖
As always, I went into this book blindfolded. I didn’t read the synopsis, I requested it based off the cover and the title. I know, I know, that’s not the best method, but, I actually enjoy it. All I really look at is the genre so I can be prepared if need be. With that said, I’ll get right into it. Did I like this book? Absolutely! Why? It had its fun elements as well as the serious ones. I feel like it was pretty evenly balanced. We have the fake (but is it though?) relationship between Olive and Stella (love her name by the way), the unfortunate riff between Olive and her family, the very type A personality of Stella, which actually made me laugh a few times and the realistic nature of the book. It wasn’t always just fun and entertaining. Don’t get me wrong, I love that type of book on occasion just as much as the next girl, but having a variety of elements and not being completely submerged into the “unrealistic romantic fantasy world” was a nice change of pace. It offered some diverse elements that helped keep the balance on point. I enjoyed the fact that there were some real life conflicts presented that the readers were able to see not only how they were approached, but the outcome as well. There were a decent amount of spicy scenes, so if this is something that bothers you, I wouldn’t recommend you grabbing this one. There’s also a few other (potential) triggers including death of a loved one, sexism, isolation from family members, homophobia, anxiety and depression, as well as a few others. I really enjoyed this one, even if there were a couple times it made me want to cry.
Thank you Netgalley, St. Martin’s Press and Andre Burke for the opportunity to read and review this book. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow, I loved Fly with Me! What an incredible debut novel by Andie Burke. Olive and Stella's fake dating story was well done, and I kept rooting for them. The spicy scenes were steamy! I'm also an adult Disney fan, so I loved that piece of the story, too! Being a healthcare worker, I appreciated how this book also addressed the terminal illness of a loved one (Alzheimer's) and a sibling with a brain injury. They were both well represented.
Loved loved loved. Andie Burke's writing reminded me of Meryl Wilsner, whom I also adore.
Fly With Me was spicy and sweet at some times and deep and emotional at others.
The banter was amazing, and I really enjoyed Olive and Stella's relationship.
Since this was single POV (Olive's), it was a lot easier to get to know and relate to Olive than Stella. I typically prefer dual POV and feel like I would've liked Stella more if I saw some chapters from her POV, but it didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book at all.
I love this book. I though all the representation in it was perfectly done. I can't wait to read more by Andie!
A solid sapphic rom com. Burke crafted an emotional story that was heartfelt and quippy without reading like it's trying too hard to be those things. I find a lot of romcoms miss the mark and come off corny and childish but this is neither of those things. There are al lot of real, often heavy, problems and heartfelt emotion throughout the book that help it remain rooted in the read world. With that said if you read romance for a little escape this isn't the book for that. Both characters have a lot going on and, as mentioned, some heavy subplots, that make this book a little more emotionally heavy than a typical romcom, but let's be honest, it's hard to do sapphic romance without some heave backstories. Overall well done, curious to see what Burke writes next.
I wanted to like this book so badly, but every time I picked it up, I found myself hitting my head against the wall. I think the writing style just wasn't for me, and that's okay. I really like the concept of this one, and maybe I'll try again in the future, but for now, this book just wasn't for me.
