This sequel to The Agatha's is another fun and thrilling murder mystery! I enjoyed this just as much as the first book, which surprised me because it's a sequel, but I felt like I fell right back into the rhythm and banter of Alice and Iris's sleuthing style!

Alice and Iris are back and ready to solve another case in Castle Cove, California. Alice is quite rich, popular, and outgoing, while Iris is just about the opposite. Put these two together, and you get the perfect team.

I really enjoyed this. Loved going into the history of Mona Moody, a movie star from the 1940s. The attention to family details is also important in this book.

Overall, another great read!

Out May 30, 2023!

Thank you, Netgalley and Publisher, for this Arc!

I think it was more of a 2.5. I enjoyed the first one a lot more. I was able to easily guess who did it. There were some twists I didn’t expect. I also wasn’t a fan of the romance. It could’ve been left out completely. I will be reading the next one if there is one.

Liz Lawson and Kathleen Glasgow have once again come together as the powerhouse writing duo they are to bring us a second installation into The Agatha’s series. These are YA murder mysteries inspired by (and dripping with references and nods to) Agatha Christie novels.

In this book we find ourselves back on Caste Cove with Alice and Iris at a school dance at Levy castle, home of the late famous film star Mona Moody. While exploring secret passageways of the castle (as one does) Alice stumbles upon Helen Park with a bloody letter opener in her hand standing over the body of Rebecca Kennedy and it already looks pretty bad for Helen and then she bolts as soon as she sees Alice.

After a bit of careful consideration Alice sand Iris don’t believe that Helen is truly capable of cold blooded murder and once again start investigating a murder in castle cove. This book is filled with twists, lies, deceit and shocking discoveries as well as a less than capable police department and parents who are simultaneously absent and overbearing.

This was so much fun and was the perfect follow up to its predecessor!

Equally as entertaining as the first book, which I loved. Only now you have a stronger sense of Iris and Alice’s true nature and who they are. I think that increased my enjoyment. I adore these characters and all of their friends and acquaintances.

I have still yet to read anything from Agatha Christie, but I love these books. In The Night in Question, the book starts off with a bang… at a dance inside a famous castle, a crime takes place. Alice walks in on the event just moments after, jump starting a panic and subsequent investigation.

The police department is a bit of a joke and Alice and Iris take matters into their own hands, putting themselves in constant danger. Meanwhile, Iris is dealing with the aftermath of the torment her father has put her through, and Alice is dealing with the return of her absent parents swooping in and trying to actually, well… parent her.

I am obsessed with this series and I cannot wait for the next book!

This book was so suspenseful and intriguing that I could not put the book down! I loved how the characters developed in this second book. I was not expecting who the killer at was all and was surprised when they were revealed! I will definitely be putting this on the order list of the library that I work at, so that teens can enjoy the book like I did. I can‘t wait until the next book in the series.

After the first Agathas book, I was excited to see more of Castle Cove and all its mysteries. I wasn’t disappointed by the sequel, where we learn much more about Mona Moody and her mysterious death after a brutal attack on a peer during a school dance. I love Iris and Alice and the assortment of characters who help them as they investigate. I did feel like most of the twists in this one were predictable but it was still a fun story. Thank you so much to NetGalley and Random House Children’s for the eARC in return for an honest review!

Listen, I have been waiting for this book to release after The Agathas last year. I am optimistic for a third book in the series too! However, I think some of what made the first book so unique was a bit lost in this installment.

Alice is obsessing over Mona Moody's infamous death and avoiding all things academic. Meanwhile, Iris seems to have a been bit by the love or rather crush bug. She's got a lot of swirling emotions around two particular guys in this book.

While attending a dance at Levy Castle, Alice is eager to get inside and learn more about Mona. Things go awry though when the night ends in a gruesome scene and Alice is the only witness. Standing above an unconscious Rebecca Kennedy is Helen Park with an envelope opener. The nods to clue were amusing to me!

Here's what I loved. I loved their desire to help others. Even others who have been quite unkind toward them. I like seeing the developing bond between Alice and Iris and their crew of mystery solving friends. What I think I struggled with was the backward step Iris has with her mom and the weird shift Alice has with Brenda. I understand Iris' mom's worries for her, but her delivery felt inauthentic to me. Meanwhile, Brenda who has practically raised Alice quickly shifts to side with Alice's estranged parents. Part of what I loved so much about The Agathas was Brenda's maternal and supportive presence for Alice and her extending affection toward Iris as well. I missed her playing that role this time around. It felt like the girls had nowhere to go and no one to turn to.

I think this was still a solid read! The Agathas just set the bar so high that this one didn't quite live up to that!

Thank you so much to Delacorte Press for granting me access to this title and to PRH Audio for giving me access to the audiobook!

Quirky, suspenseful, entertaining novel. Plot twists around every corner and an ending you won’t see coming. Great follow up to The Agatha’s. Really enjoyable read! Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this early!

This was a fun sequel to jump into. I love following Alice and Iris on their adventures with their friends. I did guess the twist pretty early on but I wasn’t even mad because of how engaging the story was. I hope there’s more in the series!

While The Night in Question didn't wow me as much as The Agatha's, I did love being back together with the crew and I will definitely return for anymore Agatha's the authors are planning. I think the plot got a little overcrowded with kind of solving two mysteries simultaneously.

Look, I really liked The Agathas so requesting this on @netgalley was a no-brainer. I believe I described that book as Agatha Christie meets Veronica Mars—and as a lover of both it perfectly hit my reading sweet spot. This second installment? I liked it even more. Now that all the characters and their backstories have been established, the mysteries—yes, plural—get to shine a bit brighter here.

Our story begins at the Sadie Hawkins dance, which is being held at Levy Castle, where classic Hollywood star Mona Moody fell to her death decades before. It’s the perfect opportunity for Alice to poke around for clues since she thinks the police investigation was full of errors. Before long, tragedy strikes. Alice stumbles upon Rebecca Kennedy in a pool of blood—oh, and Helen Park is standing over her holding the potential weapon used to attack her. Helen swears she’s innocent and Alice and Iris are on the case.

What I liked the most? Unlike other teen mysteries, this one actually addressed the idea that two teenagers running around trying to solve crimes might not be the best idea. There are repercussions for their actions and I found this refreshing. All too often, I get this nagging thought at the back of my head that says, “This isn’t realistic… No parent would allow their kid this much freedom and neither would the police force…” It was nice that that was actually addressed here. (Ok. Minus Mr. Park hiring them. That didn’t ring true to me. But I can’t have everything.)

I’m glad this turned into a series. They’re enjoyably unrealistic and kind of convoluted but in a good way. As someone who grew up reading Nancy Drew, I will always have a soft spot for young detectives.

I look forward to future installments.

After really enjoying the first book in this series, I was so excited to read this title before its publication date. I loved The Night In Question even more than its predecessor. The mystery of the death of the actress, Mona Moody is a central storyline in this novel. It was briefly mentioned in the first book and I am glad the authors decided to focus on that plot line for this one. I hope that Glasgow and Lawson continue writing this series. They definitely left the ending open for the possibility of more adventures for Alice and Iris.

I absolutely loved The Agathas and was thrilled to pick up The Night in Question. Glasgow and Lawson did not disappoint with this second outing! I can't wait for more of this series.

A stunning sequel…

Alice and Iris are at it again! When an old friend is attacked during a stormy Sadie Hawkins dance at the infamous Levy Castle, our heroines jump on the case. As they dig in, they’re swept into the curious and decades-old death of starlet Mona Moody, and they find that past and present aren’t so far away from each other.

The Night in Question is even better than it’s precursor, The Agathas. It’s filled to the brim with lovable characters that break the rules, a sense of found family, and secrets spanning almost a century. Yet, the characters consistently bring a lightness to the story with their humor.

Of course, the closed-circle nature of the mystery and quotes starting each chapter will remind readers of Agatha Christie, but I would do anything for a Stevie Bell/Alice Ogilvie/Iris Adams crossover because this has serious Truly Devious vibes. (I’m calling it now: The 3rd book is going to bring us Box in the Woods energy, and I can’t wait to see what trouble Alice and Iris get themselves into.)

I’m screaming my thanks to Random House for providing me with an advanced copy of The Night in Question. All opinions (and praise) are entirely my own and honest.

A solid follow up to The Agathas! Alice and Iris continue to be great characters with chemistry and the mystery was twisty and entertaining. I enjoyed the POV switch between the 2 of them. It gives a real feel for Alice and Iris and kept my interest throughout..

I was lucky enough to be selected to receive an ARC of this sequel. I loved it!

I grew up as a teen girl obsessed with Agatha Christie myself and really enjoy that this is a series. It’s full of fun, mystery, and the power of friendship.

I cannot wait for a third book to come out. Hopefully soon!

I loved the first book so much and these characters! It is such a fun light read that flies by. In this book I enjoyed the character developments. However, some of this plot was a little far-fetched. I know this is a book and for fun but the way the police/detectives "handled" and treated the crime scenes and their suspects were quite unprofessional and they would be fired. Again, I know they are supposed to look incompetent to some extent for Alice & Iris to figure out the case, but it was a little too incompetent for my liking in this 2nd book.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for allowing me a copy of this to read. I was captivated by the author as I’ve read others. I wasn’t awed and it felt more like a chick lit type of read.

First, if you haven't read The Agathas, stop reading this review and go read that! This book is a sequel and has ALL the spoilers for the first book.

Now, if you have read the first book, then you don't need me to tell you how fabulous it was or encourage you to go read this one, but I will anyway. :)

It's been a few months since the events of The Agathas and Alice and Iris now have a solid friendship and include the "Zoners" in many of their activities. When they attend a school dance at Castle Levy, they are excited to maybe have the chance to poke around upstairs looking for clues about the suicide of Mona Moody, a famous actress who died there in the 1950s. Instead, when Alice finds a secret passageway to the second floor, she emerges in a room to see Helen Park standing over the bleeding body of Rebecca Kennedy holding the weapon. When Helen sees Alice, she runs.

Alice, of course, has to tell Detective Thompson what she saw and immediately Park is being railroaded by the cops who don't bother to look for any other suspects. Alice and Iris don't think Park is capable of cold-blooded murder and begin to investigate.

Danger, intrigue, long-buried secrets, inept cops, concerned (and absent) parents, school assignments, and love for Agatha Christie and mysteries in general abound. It's a twisty, turny kind of novel told from alternating points-of-view (Alice and Iris) with interspersed text chains or press conferences here and there. While I did guess the motive this time around, I did not guess the actual culprit.

This was a fun ride and I definitely recommend it! 4 stars
