If you're looking for a non-stop thriller full of suspense and copius amounts of action then look no further because this book hits you in the eyes from the opening chapters. Although the fourth title in the Treadstone series - I haven't read the previous books - there is still so much to take from just reading book four. That said, I have no doubt that by visiting the first three books this adventure would make so much more sense!
A pulsating thriller, Joshua Hood is Treastone through and through.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I’ve read one previous Treadstone book, listened to another and enjoyed them so was tempted to read this when I saw it come up. I am so so so so so glad I did. A change in genre for me, but I thoroughly loved (for want of a better word) this next adventure with Adam Hayes. I am extremely ignorant when it comes to the wars in Afghanistan, ashamedly so, however Joshua Hood portrays it and describes it so well it becomes lifelike and it almost makes you feel this could be fact and a true story. Harrowing, fearful and adrenaline pumping all in one, this book does not let you down.
…and ended perfectly to line up yet more Treadstone stories. I can’t wait to find the next.
Adam Hayes is back in action! With another baby on the way Adam has been forced into private security work - something he always vowed never to get involved in. But his latest assignment puts him in a prime position when he receives a call from an old friend. A friend whose life is in danger.
Adam leaps into the fray and tags along some unlikely and not at all voluntary allies! He and Seth make their way into the hot zone and the action just keeps climbing from there.
Traitors, Taliban and surprising help all collide in another rip-roaring adventure. Adam manages to be both reminiscent and also completely different from Bourne. Adam is a family man, pulled in many directions by his sense of duty and family. HIs loyalty to his friends is admirable and he doesn't hesitate when they are in trouble.
I loved learning about his friendship and bond with Abdul Nassim and his frenemy status with Seth was actually a touch of lighthearted entertainment in the story which otherwise goes at 100mph! Brilliant descriptions of the landscapes and battles make you feel that you're right there in the middle of all the action and the calm acceptance of everything by Mrs Hayes is beautiful and shows just how they work so well an endure when others would break.
Very careful to ensure no spoilers as the tension is palpable on every page. Protagonist Adam Hayes has given up working for CIA and now employed as private contractor in Afghanistan. Dominic Porter, still CIA operative has had a lucrative sideline dealing in weapons to the Taliban. Abdul Nassim both friend of one mortal enemy of the other is bang in the middle. Adam who owes him his life wants to repay the debt. Porter well aware Nassim has the key to unlocking secrets that will destroy his life is determined to kill him and his family. The cat and mouse game, played to the death takes place in and around the Kabul airfield where the events unfold are as manic a backdrop as we’re those in 2021 showing the evacuation on news channels around the world. The reader experiences the smells, sounds and hysteria of America and NATO in retreat ; simultaneously the author describes every detail of a battle to save a friend and family in gruesome and terrifying detail. No superlatives can do justice to this series of cliff hanger battles that test each protagonist’s determination to win at any cost. A 5* read that gallops along at a frenetic pace delivering a firecracker of a conclusion . An academy award movie in the making. Many thanks to accomplished author, publisher and Netgalley for the privilege of this ARC.
Non-stop action, suspense galore, thrilling and edge of your seat from the start. This is a book that will keep you reading and keep you on your toes!
Apparently it is the third book of a series of which I have read none. But that didn't spoil it for me although I now have to go find the first two books and read them. Adam Hayes is a great character and makes the story even better.
Action packed thriller that is worth the read.
I am very impressed by Joshua Hood's latest book "THE TREADSTONE RENDITION". I got a strong plot with amazing twists and turns. The main character impressed me so much that I was very worried about his life. He was in danger all the time. His life hung in the balance. Did he survive the practice of saving his friend and his family? You will find out as you read this book. Here I got bloodcurdling chases. Fighting the Taliban and traitors to America. Who will really turn out to be the greatest traitor and saboteur? Will he get the punishment he deserves? Our main character is Lieutenant Adam Hayes. He is a very honest and honorable man. When his friend Abdul Nassim asks for help to save his family's life and he will not hesitate to help. He will move heaven and earth, ascend to hell just to save Nassim's family. In the process, he will find a traitor. Will he make it on time? Will the traitor beat him? The prologue itself is very dramatic. The downing of a US CH-47D Chinook supply helicopter in Afghanistan killed 38 people, including 30 US soldiers. Who is responsible for such a huge tragedy? Find out by reading this novel. It is recommendable. I would love to see this novel on the big screen.
Thanks to Joshua and NetGalley for allowing me to read The Treadstone Rendition before the publication date.
This is the 4th book in the Treadstone Series but the first which I have read.
The book falls into the category of an action packed, high octane thriller and would translate well into a film.
The story is set in the run up to the withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan.
A corrupt former SEAL has been stealing military equipment and selling it to the Taliban. Now he is determined to ensure that there is no evidence of his betrayal left behind as he prepares to return home to enjoy the proceeds of his illgotten gains.
When he realises that he has been photographed at the site of a mass execution, he has to identify and eliminate the photographer.
Former Treadstone operative, Adam Hayes, is contacted by Abdul Nassim who saved his life 10 years ago. Nassim is desperate for help to get his family out of Afghanistan. To help, Hayes is drawn back into the reach of Treadstone director, Levi Shaw.
I like Joshua Hood’s work, they blend plot, experience and pace into great thrillers.
Here we have his fourth “Treadstone” book, loosely linked to the Robert Ludlum books but now so far removed the origins are not overly relevant.
Adam Hayes is an ex-Treadstone operative now doing basic bodyguard type work. When he gets a call from an Afghan friend he once worked with, he drops everything to head to Afghanistan to help. Afghanistan has just fallen to the Taliban and the US is pulling out (a great background to the story) and Hayes friend Nassim has seen something he shouldn’t have and the lives of both himself and his family may be the price he has to pay. His only hope? Hayes a man without backup going back into a place he thought he would never return to.
A country in disarray and groups with different agendas, Hayes does not know who to trust but without help, he will never get Nassim out. Just as he makes strange alliances, the bad guys are doing likewise, and in he chaos of Afghanistan anything can happen.
Joshua Hood very much knows his stull, this does not have the complexity of some of the Bourne novels but they were written in a time of little technology and shadowy organisations. Here things are a bit more in the open, but no less dangerous.
I’ve really enjoyed all three of the Treadstone books and hope there are more to come.
