I reviewed this title with interest as a retired educator with multiple stints -totaling decades!- as a middle grades teacher. Now my grandchildren have reached the age range. I found the informative reassurance in Middle School Superpowers to be of special interest and help to parents of middle schoolers.

Thank you to Hachette publishers and NetGalley for providing an advance preview copy.

Being a middle school teacher, the title of this book caught my eye (along with the cute comic themed cover). The book had some great information for parents with real life behaviors and scenarios paired with advice for parents and teachers alike, I would highly recommend parents and teachers read this book. Fagell begins each chapter with quotes and situations in which each “superpower” might be applied. She provides strategies for developing each superpower and concludes each chapter with an Idea for Educators, Top Tips for Parents, and How to Tackle the Topic with Your Middle Schooler. However, I found most of not all of the Ideas for Educations to be best practice which should be common practice in effective educations.

This is a well written book. It gives the parent who wants to help their fifth to sixth grader. It has great advice and background info. One line that stuck with me, "this is a now problem not a forever problem." This is important for middle schoolers to learn. I teach and parents always ask how can they prepare themselves to help prepare their kids. This is going to be my go to answer. It really a helpful informative book.

Thanks to Hachette Books, Hachette Go and NetGalley for the advanced readers copy!

Middle School Superpowers is a great book discussing what to expect from middle school. I loved how in-depth the discussions where about typical behaviors, why they occur a how to reframe or defuse the situation. Full of great tips for parents and teachers alike!
