This book had a great premise. I have never read a book with a character like the one represented in this story, he and his life situations were incredibly real and heartbreaking. Ultimately my biggest problem with the story was the writing. Plot points are thrown out only to be skipped over (oftentimes things just seemed to fade out of the story). There was a lot of jumping around in the timeline and a lack of punctuation that made reading this book harder than necessary. This book is unique and will work well for some people, but despite the amazing premise it fell short for me.
This was such a sweeping, beautiful coming of age story. Khashayar Khabushani’s prose is masterfully executed, packing so much emotion into so few words. My heart ached and gut wrenched for K. Khabushani definitely had a passion for this story that could be felt from the pages. At times, I would forget this is a work of fiction and have to remind myself that this story isn’t (at least not wholly) real. This book’s ending has me begging for a sequel. I want to continue to follow K’s journey and see what awaits him. This is one I will be highly recommending to friends.
My biggest “complaint” is that there just weren’t enough pages. I would’ve gladly read this book, devoured it just the same, if it were twice as long.
Thank you, Random House Publishing Group - Random House, Hogarth, for allowing me to read I Will Greet the Sun Again early!
Debut author Khashayar J. Khabushani created a wonderful book. I was glued to the screen from start to finish.
