Pippa has been running a farm with her boyfriend, Alex, and helped him turn it into a successful family business. They have been together for a long time, and she expects to get a proposal any day now. Only a proposal is the last thing on Alex's mind when he informs her that he is selling the farm and he breaks up with her. Pippa not only loses her boyfriend, but also her job and her home. She now needs to build her life up from scratch again. Wolfie is a big city hotshot and needs someone to take care of his family's country manor and Pippa takes the job. But her job is only temporary, as Wolfie plans to sell the house, which Pippa absolutely does not agree with and as a result, the two inevitably clash, only for them to end up growing closer to each other.
The story had a grumpy/sunshine trope, which is one of my favorites. It was an easy, light-hearted, quick read and I enjoyed the small-town vibe. The story was entertaining and kept me engaged all the way through. A nice, cozy read that will leave you with a warm feeling at the end.

I couldn’t get into the story just as I thought. Not disappointed but need more depth, I think. I can't remember when was the last time when I read a book in which the whole plot was 100% equal to what was written in the blurb and nothing more. There was no surprise there, no resolution to any of the plot threads and the whole story was blatantly predictable and painfully dull.

This was a great easy read with some lovely complex characters. It would translate well into a film. Get this into your suitcase for a perfect holiday book. Now waiting for the 3rd book!

I really enjoyed this book. The setup seemed a little far fetched at first, but the characters are interesting and believable.
The book is about judging people rather than getting to know them, and falling into patterns of behaviour. Once you step back from your own prejudice, things might look very different.
There is quite a bit of jeopardy right up to the end.

"The House Sitter" by Elizabeth Drummond was a delightful enemies-to-lovers romance set in the charming countryside of Yorkshire. The story follows Pippa Munro, who finds herself jobless, homeless, and loveless after her boyfriend betrays her and sells her beloved farm. In a twist of fate, she becomes a house sitter at Squires Manor, owned by the grumpy and complicated Wolfie Squires.
The dynamic between Pippa and Wolfie is the heart of the story, and I enjoyed watching their relationship evolve from animosity to a sweet and passionate romance. Pippa's determination to uncover Wolfie's secrets and the way their connection grows as they work together to restore the neglected estate added depth to the narrative.
While I found the supporting characters, such as Pippa's friends and family, to be endearing and enjoyable, I had some difficulty connecting with Pippa as a protagonist. The timeline of her previous relationship and the speed at which she moved on from it felt a bit unrealistic and made it challenging for me to empathise with her character fully.
Wolfie's immature moments and clichés could be frustrating, but the banter, pacing, and humour kept me engaged. The light-hearted tone was appreciated.
Overall, "The House Sitter" is a charming and engaging romance novel that offers a mix of humour, adventure, and love in the picturesque backdrop of the Yorkshire countryside. While some aspects didn't fully resonate with me, I still found the story enjoyable and entertaining, and I would recommend it to readers looking for a fun and heartwarming romance with a touch of sass and sweetness.

Wow! This book is such a great combination of some great romance tropes and storylines that we all love. I think Drummond did a great job with these characters and creating a romance that you didn't want to put down!

With a crumbling mansion for a backdrop, this was a charming grumpy/sunshine romance, set against the rolling hills of a small rural town. It is an enemies to lovers tale, leaving the reader rooting for the unlikely pair. It is a delightful and captivating tale.

I love a good enemies to lovers and when you add that with forced proximity it makes for such a fun time! Pippa and Wolfies duo was so funny and refreshing. Their banter had me laughing out loud. My only negative note was the fact that pippa was always comparing her current situation to her past relationships and it got repetitive and annoying.

This book hooked me in from the first chapter. I loved the character development and how the story progressed.

We meet Pippa as a young girl just starting out in the world. She has friends by her side, plans for the future, and a boyfriend to pass the time with...or not. The future has a way of surprising us, for better AND worse, and while dreams can come true, they don't always do so in the way we're expecting. Give fate a timeline, and watch it laugh right back at you!

I enjoyed seeing these two, Pippa and Wolfie, go head to head. Even from their first moments on the grounds, you could sense their relationship would be something to watch. They both had clear visions of what the here and now should be for each of them that they often got in their own way. Jealousy is definitely a green-eyed monster that raises its recognizable head a few times throughout the tale, but to what end, I'll let you discover because the smiles are all in the moments, and the details warm the heart. Definitely threads of the infamous grumpy/sunshine trope we all know and love...well, I know and love...and as we reach for that happily-ever-after nothing is fully tied up with a bow until book's end, so prepare your heart for the ride!

A great pick for Contemporary Fiction fans as well as Contemporary Romance readers, and a fun way to wile away a weekend.

I actually really enjoyed this book and i loved pippa and wolfies dynamic. The only down side for me was pippas constant reflection on her previous relationship, it felt too repetitive and was frankly boring.

The side characters were brilliant and i absolutely loved reading about them.

Overall not a bad read and it is fairly short so easy to read

I really enjoyed this, in some aspects the FMC was super mature and endearing. A few times she kept comparing an old relationship to the new (which 1-2 times is understandable with a decade long relationship I suppose) but I knocked it down a half-star for her doing it even in the epilogue.

Wolfie was a perfect book boyfriend in my mind, I enjoyed him and his story and really understood his trauma and his WHY behind his actions.

Juniper the pig was a GEM and a real highlight for me. I adored the side characters a lot actually- Frankie, Mae & Todd!

This was a cute little palate cleansing read.

Pippa Munroe has been with her boyfriend Alex since she was teenager. They live in a small rural town and a decade later, they run Alex's family's farm. Pippa clearly did everything for Alex when it came to the farm's finances and day to day running, as well as helping out with his ill father and taking him to appointments.

Alex tells her that they have to talk and Pippa is convinced they are finally getting engaged. Alex surprises Pippa by telling her that he has sold the farm and they are moving to Kent. Understandably, Pippa is distraught as she loves their hometown and cannot believe that Alex didn't consult her first. She opts not to go with Alex and with no job, no boyfriend and nowhere to live, she doesn't know what to do.

Pippa always had a soft spot for Squires House and when Wolfie Squires has a job for a live-in house-sitter, she applies. After getting the job she realises that it is only temporary as Wolfie is planning on selling up.

I enjoyed a lot about this book. All of the supporting characters were brilliant and although at times I wanted to shake Pippa, I really liked her growth and realisation that she was so much better away from Alex. I feel like her relationship with Wolfie went from 0-100 and would have loved to feel more of that blossoming. All in all a cute read!

I had a hard time getting into this book! I don't know why, I think this book is probably much better than I am giving it credit for being! I hope other people read this and prove me wrong.

This is a charming small town, forced proximity, grumpy sunshine romance. Pippa thought her life was pretty settled in the Yorkshire small town she loves, she lived with her high school boyfriend and helped run his family farm. Unfortunately, he had other plans, leaving Pippa homeless and jobless.

She ends up becoming the caretaker for the rundown mansion that anchors the town. Pippa remembers the new owner, Wolfie, from her childhood. He’s grown up and grumpy, and wants to sell the property. Pippa sees the potential of the place, and uses her time to try to change Wolfie’s mind.

At the same time, Pippa and Wolfie get to know each other better and start falling in love. I enjoyed this small town romance, 3.5 stars.

I enjoyed The House Sitter by Elizabeth Drummond and would recommend it to other readers who enjoy a story set in a small town with relatable characters and themes of friendship, family, romance, and community. The town sounded lovely and full of community spirit which made it easy to see why Pippa wouldn't feel the need to leave. She has such a love for Squire manor and everything we learn about it in the descriptions has you wanting her to remain there forever, from the house itself with it's historic charm and meadow views, to the lovely neighbours that you instantly love, and especially the illusive Woolfie and the connection that they share. Parts of the story are predictable, but I didn't mind that at all, I was looking for something that would be entertaining and lighthearted but still have meaning and messages in it, and this book hit the mark perfectly. I really liked Elizabeth Drummond's writing style and look forward to reading more of her work.

I always love a good light-hearted British romance and this one has the right amount of sweet and spicy in it. Surrounded by the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, a responsible and trusting woman dedicated her life to the man she loved until he abandoned her and left her homeless and desperate for a job.

Pippa loves her small town and plans to remain there the rest of life. But then her manipulative and selfish ex-boyfriend Alex of 10+ years betrays her and moves away. Pippa's salvation comes from a job as a house sitter at Squires Manor owned by Wolfie Squires, a grumpy and complicated man who is hard to navigate with his mood swings.

Watching the persistent Pippa trying to figure out the very private and perplexing Wolfie is the best part of the book. Though some readers dislike stories with one character's point of view, I like them. I guess I like solving puzzles and Pippa is one smart cookie as she slowly uncovers Wolfie's dark secrets and tragic past.

I like the sadness connection between the neglected estate and the conflicted characters. The more Pippa improves the appearance of the house and gardens, the happier and more confidant she becomes leading her to speak her mind and share her feelings with Wolfie. In turn, Wolfie learns to trust the feisty and outspoken Pippa and reveals his kinder, thoughtful side. The chemistry is sexy and strong between Pippa and Wolfie and gives the sweet romance a little kick for me.

The supporting characters are a welcome addition to the story from Pippa's hilarious friends and family to the next door neighbors, Todd, Patrick, and Juniper the cute and curious pig.

Overall, I enjoyed this charming enemies-to-lovers romance filled with laughter, adventure, and love between too opposites.

This was quite joyful. A new author to me, and a pleasant read. I enjoyed the premise and thought that the characters had chemistry. I found the style of writing at times a little difficult to get into, especially if my full attention was on the task in hand. But shut yourself away, grab a cup of tea and immerse yourself and this is a book you’d want the physical copy of on your bookshelf for sure
