This one was fun and I really enjoyed it. It was definitely different from other books, but that helped set it apart.
This was such a heartwarming book and made me finish it in one sitting! I will read more of Dyson again because this book was so relatable.
Eva is unlucky. Unlucky in life, unlucky in love and she just believes that she's cursed because of some family trauma.
Sounds odd? A little bit.
but there is a solution and she is determined to find it and follow this path. And this is when the story begins...
I like Kate Dyson's stories. The previous book was awesome and I even had a chance to have a small chat with her what I found so welcoming and nice. These stories have a personal touch for me as well, cause it is also about polish family, immigrant family who still cultivate polish traditions what is so delightful to read about, especially when someone is spelling my national dishes correctly ;)
About book.... great! Comedy, full of funny moments and twist. I just had a great fun.
I really enjoyed this story. The characters had clear chemistry and this made the story really flow. Would love to read more by the author.
thank you netgalley and co for giving me and opportunity to read and review this. obviously late again (sorry!) but anyway where do i begin , eve mallory, unlucky but somehow the luckiest (i am so jealous you can’t even imagine, big it should’ve been me energy) this was such a fun read to be honest, easy to get through and beautiful over all. 4 stars.
I wasn't sure if I was going to stick with the book in the beginning. Eva can be a lot and the bad luck stuff was definitely over the top. Plus, there was a lot of time spent on her eccentric family that I found a little repetitive. However, once she met Luke, I loved the book so much more. They had great chemistry and he brought much-needed steam to the book. I was happy with how everything worked out for Eva and she eventually grew on me by the end. Overall, I'd rate 3.5 out of 5 stars.
Eva Mallory believes that her family name is cursed, and she is eager to find a husband who can offer her a new name and a fresh start. However, her family's attempts to help are often misguided, and they present her with a range of unsuitable suitors. It's possible, though, that Eva's supposed bad luck is simply due to her clumsiness and occasional accidents, which are common traits in many people.
At the beginning of the story, the main character meets a man named Luke and thinks her fortune has turned, only to find out that he shares her last name. Furthermore, he is the new teacher at the same school where the protagonist, Eva, works. Eva tries to avoid him, but they keep getting thrown together. Despite her efforts to resist, she feels a strong attraction to him. As the plot unfolds, Eva discovers the truth behind the supposed curse and must decide whether to follow her heart or not. To find out what happens next, you will have to read the book yourself.
Eva Mallory’s Husband Hunt is an enjoyable read with entertaining scenes set in a school and well-portrayed characters. The humorous moments encourage readers to embrace the idea of a family curse, making it a refreshing and amusing read.

"Eva Mallory's Husband Hunt" by Katherine Dyson is a delightful Regency romance. Dyson's storytelling captures the era's charm, with vivid characters and witty dialogue. The spirited Eva embarks on an entertaining journey to find love. This book is a lighthearted and engaging read for fans of historical romances, filled with humor and the promise of love.
Eva Mallory believes her family name is cursed, so the sooner she can find a husband and take his name the better. Her family is keen to help and offers up a variety of contenders for the role, most of them extremely unsuitable. On the other hand, perhaps it’s nothing to do with the Mallory name and she is just very clumsy and a bit accident prone – a lot of people are.
Fairly early on, she meets Luke and thinks her luck has changed at last, only to discover he shares her surname. He is also the new teacher at the same school where Eva works, so she tries to avoid him, but they are thrown together repeatedly. The attraction between them is strong, so will she come to her senses, when she learns the truth behind the supposed curse, and follow her true feelings – you will just have to read it for yourself to find out.
The best things about Eva Mallory’s Husband Hunt are the scenes set in the school (you will never think of a stationery cupboard in the same way again), and her eccentric family who are originally of Polish heritage. The characters are well drawn, the Leeds setting makes a pleasant change, and there are a lot of light-hearted humorous scenes where we are encouraged to buy into the idea of the family curse no matter how ridiculous it might seem at first. I enjoyed Eva Mallory’s Husband Hunt a lot, and will definitely look out for other books by this author. Thanks to One More Chapter, HarperCollins and NetGalley for a digital copy to review.
A very sweet and thoughtful read about daring to live instead of letting fear control you.
Eva Mallory believes her family is cursed. Everyday she suffers multiple mishaps. But for Eva the curse runs deeper. She believes it caused her father to die, and she is haunted by grief.
Hearing her mum and sister reflect on their changing fortunes following marriage, Eva believes the only way to change her luck is to find a husband tout suite.
Her family are all too happy to matchmake.
But fate intervenes in the form of a dashing stranger who sets her on fire.
And who turns out to be Luke Mallory. New year one teacher at her school.
Unbelievably drawn to one another, Eva however writes them off thinking she can't break the curse by marrying another Mallory.
And yet, despite everything, Luke and Eva can't resist one another.
It's only when the truth behind the supposed curse is revealed that Eva finally realises her true feelings for Luke and she makes a dramatic race to get to him. But in true Eva fashion, this doesn't quite go to plan.
Charming and heartfelt, this is a wonderfully escapist and romantic read that made me smile throughout.
First of all, I adored Eva's polisch roots and am absolutely thrilles that all the polish words and names were used absolutely correct - brownie points to all responsible!
In this funny, albeit a bit far - fetched story, we are introduced to some colourful and interesting characters. The author can bring them to life easily, both the main and backstage characters. Eva's dates were, if not hilariously funny, then at leat entertaining and felt like a breath of fresh air. The descriptions of Eva`s school life, her students and her shortcomings were brilliant. The family dynamics and banter between family members were so well captured and brought to the pages, especially the two old aunts and I also think that Eva' internal battle with her consciousness and guilt was well drafted. And there is also a bit of steam as Eva's husband hunt continues...
It was a light - hearted, easy rom - com with some heavier moments that sat perfectly within the plot. For me personally it was a bit overdone, with the silliness and the humour that sometimes felt too forced and then the poignant moments to balance the lightness, but altogether, it was a nice, relaxing read with a simple plot and witty "will they/won't they".
A charming and fun rom com! Can Eva overcome the family curse?
Many thanks to Harpercollins UK and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Eva Mallory is cursed, in fact the whole family is cursed bad luck follows them everywhere until they get married. The Mallory family believes that it's the surname that is cursed and the curse lifts when they get married and change there last name.
This book was a fun light read with some hot and steamy parts.
Eva's bad luck was over the top and a lot of it was of her own making as she truly believed in the family curse.
There was definitely some cringe and laugh out loud moments in this book.
If you are after a light fluffy romance then this is the book for you.
DNF@ 13%- This was just not great. The writing is okay, but the first time she meets the love interest, he just comes across as too forward and a bit creepy. They talk one time at a bar then when they meet unexpectedly as new co-workers, they immediately make out…..at work. It just gives me the ick. The whole curse idea sounded promising, but it was not done well.
Eve Mallory needs to find a husband to get rid of the family curse. Luke is eminently suitable, but has the same surname. Will she ever find her perfect match?
I enjoyed Eva Mallory's Husband Hunt.
It is quite a light0hearted and at times silly read but it’s a slice of escapism that sometimes we all need!
The story centres on Eva who believes she is cursed thanks to her surname, which leads right back through the generations.
She firmly believes the only way the curse and her bad luck will be eradicates if she marries. She changed her surname by deed pole once and it was a disaster.
So she recruits her family to find potential husbands, but none of their picks can compare to the hunky new teacher colleague who definitely isn't a candidate.
Although Eva truly believes her bad luck is because she’s cursed I think many of the incidents can simply be put down to carelessness and clumsiness and being in the wrong place at the wrong time!
I enjoyed the budding romance between Eva and Luke – the forbidden teacher colleague fruit.
Their connection felt both steamy and genuine, and I was rooting for them.
Eva’s disastrous dates come with comedic moments for the reader to enjoy. I did find myself practically screaming in frustration for Eva to just get over herself though and just see what was ring in front of her the whole time!
With thanks to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK and One More Chapter for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Loved loved loved this 🥰 Very funny, endearing and unexpectedly spicy for a book about two primary school teachers 😂 I enjoyed Eva’s fixation on the idea that her family name is cursed and that she has to get married and get a new surname to break it. I didn’t know where it was going when she met Luke as I was like oh okay, job done? He was great, hot, no red flags and we were like 15% in - so I was thinking, maybe it’s just a story about them falling in love then?! I don’t see where the bumps in the road could be… but when she realises his last name is the same as hers 😂 I loved it. The romance in this is lovely and hot at the same time, but I also loved the family story element to this as well!
A grade epilogue - too cute 🥰
What to expect:
- workplace romance (teachers)
- cosy (but cursed) family vibes
- locked in a cupboard x2 (🌶)
Flew through this book, it was very eventful and fun and so so heartwarming! Felt myself smiling a lot.
I enjoyed the setting, even though a small town really isn’t all that rare to find in books. The characters were well thought out and the plot was paced in a way that made sense. I would recommend this book to others and would enjoy reading other novels by this author, as they are so breezy and easy to get through!
I had fun and appreciated the original idea behind this story. Unfortunately I wasn't a fan of Eva as I found her a bit too juvenivel and silly.
It's an entertaining story and I think it will appeal to a lot of people.
3.5 upped to 4
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine
[Thanks Netgalley and the publisher for the ebook. This review is my honest opinion but just another opinion, you should read this book and judge it by yourself]
Great starting point, poor development. Sometimes you like the plot but unfortunately can't connect with the story and that's my case. I thought the female MC was a childish person and her reasons for the husband hunt since he knew the adorable Luke were really stupid.
Not bad written but the story was not for me.
