EVA MALLORY’S HUSBAND HUNT is a lovely story and heart-tugging romance. Eva and Luke meet, feel an instant connection then spend too much time trying to stay away from one another to thwart the Mallory curse.
The story is rich with endearing and memorable characters some family, some not, and some the men Eva met trying to find a husband..
I received a copy of the book from NetGalley to read in advance and this is a voluntary review.
Eva is cursed. She's the unluckiest woman on earth, and the only way to break the curse is to get married. But what is she going to do when she falls for the one person who can't break the curse?
This is a very cute rom-com. Eva is a dramatic disaster (kinda reminds me of my teenage self), but you still really root for her. Her family is equally crazy and lovely and Luke is VERY dreamy. It took me a while to get into the read, but the second half of the book just disappeared. It's filled with humour, love and chaotic children.
Rating: 3.5/5
Funny, cute, and an absolute delight!
It doesn't take itself too seriously, it's funny and sweet, too cutesy at times but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. I have been in a bit of a reading slump so I thought this would be a great lift and I was right, it;'s just lots of fun and light-hearted the perfect remedy f you have been reading anything heavy or you finding yourself stuck in reading rut this will certainly pull you out. I loved the feel-good factor and the fact that it has it laugh out loud silly moments which made me smile.
It's a simple and easy-to-read story of a woman who fully believes she is cursed with bad luck, despite not fully connecting with Eva I loved the journey she took me on and the romance is passionate and very sexy, I liked the easygoing writing too, it made the entire reading process very enjoyable.
Overall, this is a great book for pulling you out of a slump and for cheering your day, whether your read this genre or not this is perfect bank holiday/weekend reading I thoroughly enjoyed it and will certainly be reading more from this author.
One might say that this is a regular boy meets girl love story. However as the story progressed it offered a poignancy and sensitivity that left me feeling quite emotional.
Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Eva has the worst luck. Anything that can go wrong usually does. She has decided she needs a change in her life. I enjoyed the different characters in this book.
This is a cute, run rom-com that's silly at times and kind of sweet. Eva is so wrapped up in believing her family is cursed due to their name that I think she's making some of her own bad luck.
The Description:
Eva Mallory is the unluckiest woman in the world, a fact which is attributed, in her family, to their name, and has subjected every member to a lifetime of misfortune. After accidentally burning down the venue of her twin Hanna’s anniversary party, Eva discovers that her sister’s luck has completely turned around since her wedding day. In that moment, Eva decides there’s only one thing for it. She needs to find herself a husband too, and fast. But with the distractions of her husband hunt, Eva completely forgets about the family curse. But the curse has not forgotten about her…
My Thoughts:
Some of the book is just too silly for me, but overall it was fun and the romance was hot and steamy.
I couldn't really relate to Eva much, she just seemed too wrapped up in her bad luck - although it did seem she got more than her fair share. The plot was simple and it was a quick, fun read.
Thanks to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter through Netgalley for an advance copy. This book will be published on July 14, 2023.
This was such a good read, loved it! Loved the notion of the story and the characters. It was well written, look forward to more from this author.
Fun, lighthearted romcom that will pull at your heartstrings!
Eva Mallory is cursed and marriage is the key to her breaking it (or so she thinks). Her family legacy is riddled with bad luck reminiscent of Stanley Yelnats and the family lore all points to her last name being the cause. Tired of being “unlucky” she is on a mission to find Mr Right as soon as possible and be rid of the “Mallory” name! Full of hilarious moments, heartwarming characters and a swoon worthy romance “Eva Mallory’s Husband Hunt” was a great read!
Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for the advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
Lovely book. Eva thinks she's cursed because of her surname so wants to find a husband so she can change her name. Unfortunately only man she's attracted to has same surname as her
Wow!! I just loved this book SOOOOO much. For a start, the characters are brilliant, the relationship between Hannah and Eva is poignant and hilarious.
As Hannah starts her quest for a husband cheered on by her brilliant family, she meets all manner of unsuitable men but it's the one man she can't have that she wants the most!
I just couldn't put this book down and as soon as I had finished it I wanted to read it again!.
If you are looking for a touching, funny, clever read this is it!
Thanks NetGalley for the chance to read this!
I agree with so many others: when you first open this, the premise seems a little corny. Eva's cursed and her family is gunna "fix it" by having her shed her family name and get married. I inwardly groaned a bit thinking this was going to be a little anti-feminine: who 'needs' a man to be free from a curse?
BUT stick around and keep reading: this is SUCH a cute read. The family dynamics are so well drafted, Eva's internal struggle with guilt, success, love, and personal fulfillment are really well constructed, and the romance is just the perfect blend of steamy and loving. I genuinely enjoyed every second of this: do NOT let the premise drive you away!
This was CUUUUTE!!!!!!!! Loved the story line, the fresh storyline, the FRESH characters adn the idea that your luck can change with one change in your life...like getting married. This was delightful and did I say FRESH?!
This book was such a joy to read! Admittedly at the beginning I was thinking it was a bit ridiculous but I was soon drawn into it and absolutely loved it! Loved all the characters, the crazy aunties were fab and Eve’s fellow teacher Orson was just a delight! I would really recommend this book and will definitely be keeping on my kindle to re-read on holiday x many thanks to Netgalley for an advanced copy
“Eva Mallory’s Husband Hunt” is a fun, lighthearted & heartwarming tale. Eva believes in the family curse. She is clumsy, always late to things because if unusual mishaps but worst of all believes she killed her father because he died the day she tried to escape the curse by changing her surname. Eva is also beautiful, loving, funny and has a close knit family and is a successful and popular teacher.
I enjoyed reading this romp through Eva’s series of dates some successful with only minor mishaps & some dreadful ending in help from the emergency services. Eva is also trying to escape her strong feelings for another Mallory, a man who seems perfect but for the cursed name. I laughed & cried with Eva and enjoyed escaping into her madcap world. As a teacher myself, I felt for her & the amusing descriptions of the weird & wonderful things kids can get up to. As long as you are happy to read about lustful thoughts & a bit of action in the cupboard department (I definitely hope no cupboard in any of the schools my kids go to have seen the kind of action described in the book!) then I am sure you will enjoy reading and join Eva on her quest to find the perfect man to break her curse.
This was such a good book! I couldn't stop reading it. It was a wonderful book. I could not stop reading it.
I just reviewed Eva Mallory’s Husband Hunt by Katherine Dyson. #NetGalley

Eva Mallory us cursed and the curse is real
her last name even means unlucky which is a little unfortunate. But there is a way to break the curse and that is to change your name through marriage and so Eva sets out to find herself a husband.
This is one you need to stick with her me I found it really hard to relate to the book at first. I felt that it was a little bit superficial and a little bit silly. I didn't really connect with the characters. But I stuck with in and I need get drawn a little bit more into Eva's life. Some parts out of the book were rather funny too. Eva also grows during the book which is lovely to see. But there was a little bit too much repetition of why Eva didn't want to find herself a romantic partner. But the ending is nice.
So overall I have rather mixed feelings about this book and if I actually enjoyed it and liked it.
Eva Mallory is cursed. Tracing this unfortunate family legacy back to her great-grandfather’s adoption of the surname “Mallory,” which means unlucky, she has lived under a cloud of small and epic disasters. When she discovers that her twin sister and mother have transcended the curse by marrying and changing their names, Eva develops a new strategy – find a husband, change her name and find freedom from the curse.
I was a bit put off by the first few chapters. The premise seemed silly, and the tone felt superficial. However, the further I read, the more I was drawn into Eva’s life, which is depicted with both sensitivity and humor. Some of the descriptions of her students, her family and her own shortcomings were laugh-out-loud funny. As a counterpoint to the humor, there is an exploration of Eva’s personal growth as she is willing to be more vulnerable in developing friendships and coming to terms with curse. At times the pacing felt bogged down by the repetition of Eva’s reasons for avoiding romance, but the ending is touching and worth the wait.
Overall, this was a quick, light-hearted, and enjoyable read. I look forward to more books by the author.
