I really enjoyed this. It was an easy read and the story line kept me up turning pages into the morning. Would definitely recommend to all I know. A new author for me but one I’ll definitely be looking out for in the future
An entertaining and witty novel, filled with vivid characters. I enjoyed Charlies dilemma.
Many thanks to Harpercollins UK and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.
Unfortunately this was a DNF for me, just didn't grab me, I honestly kept trying but my mind wandered whilst reading & life is too short to force myself to read books that don't sweep me up in their story.
sweet story with a great happily ever after!
Thank you to the author, publisher, and netgalley for this review copy.
I enjoyed this sweet, feel good story. The main character was interesting and engaging. Well written
I will be coming back to this book when I am in the right head space: for now I was not able to finish it unfortunately.
I was really excited about the premise of this book and the title just made it even more fun ;) And while the book did have its fun moments and had some good banter and characters you wanted to root for, it was a little hard to get into. Overall the pacing was slow and the story sometimes felt off track from the main plot. It was still a fun light read but not really for me.
DNF
The story moved very slowly and I couldn’t stand Charlie. I found myself starting to read this book, skimming to see what would happen and then eventually putting it down. The summary of this book really captured me and I never request a book intending to dislike it or not finish it. This one just missed the mark for me.
As a mid-30s married woman, I struggled to connect to Charlie. This made it hard for me to stay into the story, but I do think this author has potential!
I received an advance copy. All thoughts are my own.
This was a feel good story. There were some ups and downs but overall it was a romance linked into helping other people and the development of a city farm. There were some good charactersand a very true to life storyline. The conclusion reached all my expectations. Lovely story.
Thanks so much for my copy. While I did enjoy elements of this book, overall the pacing was a little too slow for me and I struggled to really engage with the story. I also wasn't a huge fan of Charlie which made it very hard to stay engaged - I had to sit this down twice and come back to it because it couldn't hold my attention. I do however think there is an audience for this so if you like a good romcom, some antics and you're able to connect with the MC, I think you'll enjoy this book.
2.5 stars
If you are looking for a cutesy, fluffy romance - this is for you.
Charlie Hughes has recently lost her job and been dumped. After moving back home with her parents and younger sister, she goes on the hunt for a job, all the while thinking about what her late elder sister would advise.
Whilst job hunting, she meets Gábriel, a Hungarian butcher living in London. He expressed his interest in her but she is put off men following her break-up. Eventually she finds herself a job at Ruskin Park Farm and works her way up, even getting Gábriel a job there too.
I love the sense of community with the farm workers and volunteers and it is a super diverse read. There is of course a bit of a rocky road for Charlie, from going from a break-up to having three men interested in her at the same time, and I did see the ending coming but it was cute nonetheless!
Dnf.
I'm so sorry, but I really struggled with this book. It was so slow and boring and not at all what I thought. I have to say that the cover got me hooked from the beginning, I love illustrated covers on books. But the story itself didn't bring me much to the table. The characters behaviour were very immature.... I struggled to finish unfortunately.
I tried this one twice and both times found myself only skimming. The writing is good, but I didn’t care much about the story or main character.
I found the book a bit boring so struggled to read it. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me review this book.
Did not finish book. Stopped at 52%.
I want to thank the author and publisher for providing me with an eCopy of this book via NetGalley.
Everything about this book screams a book I would enjoy. The cover drew me in and then the title (I can't help but think of the Taylor Swift song) and the synopsis all caught my interest but the actual story did not work for me at all.
As you can tell from above I really tried to get through this book. I read over half of it before finally deciding it just wasn't worth wasting anymore time on. I literally started struggling with this book from the very first chapter. There are these weird parts that are kind of like voice overs(I don't know any other way to describe this. I've never read anything like it before) that confused me and made no sense what so ever and they continued to pop up throughout everything I read. Then there's our main character Charlie. I just didn't like her at all. She just got on my nerves and is very immature for a 27 year old. Plus it dragged so much. I got halfway through it and it just now started making progress in one of the relationships. Basically all of the love interests had just been introduced without a whole lot happening.
I loved that Charlie worked on a farm even though she had no clue what she was doing at first and it grew on her but that's pretty much the only good thing I can say about this book. I think this author definitely has potential but this was a big no from me.
The cover and title of this book is what captivated me, but I wish that held true for the actual book. The whole thing just felt very worldly, with very minimal plot.
It’s just sooo good. I didn’t know where this would take me and I was ent along for the ride enjoying every moment. The characters and story are just wonderful and I am very grateful to have gotten to read this.
This book was a quick read. It was enjoyable but pretty predictable. Charlie is 27 and just all over the place. She lost her older sister as a child and never dealth with that pain. She takes crappy job after crappy job and doesn't really know what she wants. After her second worst day ever, she finds herself moving home after losing another job and being dumped by her cheating boyfriend.
Charlie growing and learning what she wants from a career is my favorite part of the book. Her love for her job on the farm is the best part. She makes plenty of mistakes, leanrs to give herself grace and own up to them but also has lots of amazing plans to make the farm grow and flourish.
She struggles alot with finding a good partner and you want to scream at her the whole time she is with Franco as he is clearly full of it and taking advantage of her. She kinda leads another guy on and doesn't see what's right in front of her. She eventually gets it right but it was clunky.
I'm glad I read it. I did really enjoy all the farm bits and baby animals.
Thanks to Harper Collins UK and One More Chapter and NetGalley for the ARC.
unfortunately, i don’t think this was the book for me. i think the pacing of this book was too slow to find interesting and the book being in third person made it hard to read. i also wish we could’ve seen more character development with charlie. i also think it took too long for the love interests to be introduced and the book seemed a little unrealistic.
i believe this book had a good well rounded plot with lots of potential but is unfortunately not the book for me.
