Thank you to Net Galley and the Publisher for this Advanced Readers Copy of I Knew You Were Trouble by Pip Fox!
Sadly, this wasn't the story for me. It lacked in character development, the plot unfolds too slowly for my liking and the overall vibe of the book was just off for me.
Thank you Netgalley and One More Chapter for providing me with a free advanced copy of this book. Unfortunately, I was unable to finish it as just wasn't my style of writing.
This was cute and I love the cover. Overall, this was an easy and sweet read with great friendships.
Unfortunately I was not a fan of this book. It had potential, but wasn’t all there. The writing style was fine, but the storyline fell short.
I was invited to read this book by the Publisher. It looked like a promising read, but I found Charlie to be immature and childish. Her behaviour really irritated me.
Maybe it is because I am in my mid-40s, I might not be the intended audience. I do read books that feature younger protagonists though, and it doesn't usually bother me.. I unfortunately think that it was this character rather than her age that irritates me.
Thank you to Netgalley and the Publisher for my ARC.
A fun book . Charlie starts the book off in a bad place, no job, her boyfriend (with whom she lives) ends the relationship so she is sleeping on a campbed on the floor of her younger sister's room in her parents house. Seeing a job advert for a city farm manager, she applies and is taken on. A learning curve in more ways than one, she gets to know the workers , volunteers and animals whilst having a few ups and downs along the way.
Perhaps in places a bit too predictable but mostly an entertaining read.
Thanks to Net Galley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy of i knew you were trouble. This was began about a girl who lost everything, home, job, and boyfriend. Then she tried to pick up the pieces and start over. This was her making an effort, trying again and swearing off men so clearly that didnt work being a romance novel. this was a little funny about her poor luck but i felt for her.
Oof. I couldn’t finish this book. Charlie was so immature it drove me nuts. And the story overall was so slow, turning pages got me nowhere. Sorry :(
DNF
This was just… boring? Like, it opens with a strange narration about directions that I think was supposed to be funny or maybe arty but didn’t really achieve that effect. I only requested this book because there’s three guys on the cover and I hoped it might be why choose/poly, unfortunately I couldn’t stick around long enough to find out and the other reviews are too ambiguous for me to tell.
Overall, this had a nice cover, but the writing style was not for me. I wonder if this had been marketed more as lit fic than a romcom whether it might find its audience a bit more.
I'm going to be honest here and tell you that I was initially drawn to this book because of its title and cover. After reading the synopsis, my interest was further peeked and I knew that this would either be a great new read or would ultimately fall flat. Unfortunately, the latter was what occurred.
It was a struggle to get through this story and it often left me at times debating whether or not simply put it on the side and leave it as DNF. This is the issue, the cover and description make it seem as if this book is going to be a hilarious story filled with excitement and romantic characters when it in fat felt like the opposite occurred. Additionally, I just don't think I have the patience to deal with some of the actions that the FMC and the MMCs did (view spoiler) as well as the fact that it was hard to relate to Charlie and the stringing along of three different men. This just sadly was not the book for me.
eARC was kindly provided by the publisher in exchange of an honest review. Thank you!
Thank you for allowing me to review this book. I'm sorry to say that I found it to slow. Charlie is a chaotic young woman who seems very self centred and rarely thinks about the consequences of her actions. After losing her job and her boyfriend she begins work on a city farm. The story then follows her life dramas over the next year. If you like romantic stories you may enjoy this more than I did.
Charlie has a chaotic life. Never able to keep a job and terrible love life until she gets a job as an administrator on a community farm when everything changes
An easy and sweet read filled with wonderful friendships, complicated romances and community spirit.
Charlie scores the hat trick all in one day. Fired, dumped, homeless. Feeling she's been drifting through life ever since she lost her sister Jools, Charlie is determined to turn her life around - and avoid men for the foreseeable.
When she gets a position working at a city farm things are looking up and she soon becomes a valued member of the team. But her vow to avoid romance isn't really going so well. In fact, she's pursued by not one man, but three. Will she pick the right one though?
A charming story that made me smile.
Really enjoyed this story and all it offered.
Whilst there was a suspected conclusion in classic romance style, it definitely was not a given and kept you on the edge waiting.
I Knew You Were Trouble by Pip Fox was an ok read for me. Definitely something other romcom readers will enjoy but the storyline moved too slow. I also couldn't relate to the main character as she seemed immature and played games. Maybe for a younger crowd but for a mature reader it was hard to get into.
Romantic comedy about Charlie who loses her job and boyfriend at the same time. She ends up running a community farm where she has not one but three men pursuing her.
Not what I was expecting and unfortunately a bit of a letdown!
On the outside this book has so much promise, it's got an enticing back blurb and a gorgeous cover, I hate to give a negative review of anything but unfortunately, this just didn't do it for me. I couldn't seem to get past how immature the heroine was, she was very childish and I found it so hard to not just root for her but by the end even like her.
On the plus side, this is a pretty stereotypical romantic comedy, it has all the ingredients there, it's got humour, romance, a ditzy heroine and some guy candy and I am sure other fans of this genre will love it and wonder why I didn't,
This is my first by this author, will I read more from her? I think I will yes, as I don't like to judge purely on one book especially as there were moments I liked it just didn't win me over - sorry!
I loved the title and cover so that drew me in initially but I really stayed and was really surprised by how much I liked this one.
Unfortunately. This book fell flat with me. I just couldn't get past the writing of it. Sadly, this happens a lot with English writers and their books. I feel like the language and dialogue makes more sense for them than it does for me.
