Well I loved this story! I’m a sucker for a cute farm and just loved reading a story set around one, even more so that it was the heroines place of work. Charlie is a lovable hot mess & the language and the characters of London were captured so well. It was a sweet, easy read with a HEA. Recommend!
Thank you NetGalley for this ARC copy of I Knew You Were Trouble in exchange for my honest opinion and review.
When I first stumbled upon this book I was EXTREMELY intrigued by its presentation. The cover drew me in, the synopsis hooked this reader. However, that is about where the interest ends. When first diving into this one the reader is hit with chaotic writing that clearly needs to be redone. It was all over the place! To be fair, I believe the author was trying to paint a picture to us as readers similar to what you see in the beginning of some movies. In my head I envisioned a voice over of a scenic observation that the author tried to narrate for us. It did not work.
I flipped through trying to get past the initial stuff to see if things improved... they didn't. A weird sense of third person narration ensued that I simply could not get with as a reader. It was too much. Some others may enjoy this (although I don't really see how), but I couldn't. Reading is meant to be enjoyable, and I simply did not enjoy reading this one. If it is taken back for further editing, or the style of the writing is adjusted - I may consider giving it another go in the future. For now, I cannot find myself recommending this one.
Sadly, this wasn't for me. I was hooked by the premise, but ultimately found it hard to relate to Charlie and thought her stringing along three guys at the same time (one of which was an absolute ass to her) was a little unrealistic. I would've liked to have seen some more of Charlie's character development,. A fun book, but not for me sadly.
I enjoyed Charlie's story of finding herself. We meet her as she's struggling and down on her luck. As she moves forward she ends up working on a little farm and trying to choose from three different guys. This was a sweet read and I thoroughly enjoyed watching Charlie grow and change.
I Knew You Were Trouble was a lovely little dive into seeing our extremely relatable main character, Charlie, come back from two of her worst days ever. Along the way, she learns about herself, how to show up for the people she loves, and who she really wants to be and be with. It’s a sweet story about figuring it out and some of the left turns that life throws at you and I loved how human the whole thing felt. Charlie was a little messy, infinitely relatable, and so easy to root for. And her relationship with Gabriel was such a slow build and a true delight to see blossom! I think if you enjoyed Ghosts by Dolly Alderton or Maame by Jessica George, this novel could be for you!
I was hooked by the Taylor Swift lyric title, and stayed for the story of Charlie finding her place in life. I love a UK based book, and the community farm of RPF is one I’d like to visit. The cover had me wondering if I was in for a “Why Choose?” romance but it was much better this way. I liked the side characters and stories as much as Charlie’s and love that she ended up with a community, not just a job.
I knew you were trouble was a sweet story following Charlie as she finds herself while working on a cute city farm. It took me a while to figure out what this book was about, I found the cover/title slightly misleading as I feel the main focal of this book was Charlie and the community farm she was working on rather than the men in her life. I found that the first 2/3 of the book were quite slow and then the last 1/3 felt a little rushed to account for the slower beginning.
This was a cute read but a bit slow to start.
I wasn’t a major fan of this book. I found the writing style and development immature and not well fleshed out. The premise was interesting but I ultimately feel like this book could have used a couple more rounds of edits. While I am usually a major fan of debut authors, this book felt like it needed a bit more polish and refinement. Ultimately not for me.
Thanks to the Publisher and Netgalley for an early review copy.
I enjoyed this book.
We meet Charlie who’s life at present isn’t going as well as she would want.
The story was relatable, going into Charlie’s past life with her family. I loved the setting at the farm with all the with the animals.
I recommend this book.
I think part of this book were good but generally, this wasn't really for me. I didn't really like the writing style, which is definitely a 'me' thing than, necessarily an author issue.
Charlie loses her job and boyfriend at the same time, she is lucky to find another job as an administrator at a city farm. The new boyfriend isn't so straightforward though, with three to choose from with many missteps along the way.
I did feel for Charlie, with that sense of not being sure of what to do and then feeling not up to the job. There is also that feeling of frustration when she chooses the wrong boyfriend, not seeing his bad points, you just have to hope that she does see sense in the end. The farm does sound a great place to be, or at least visit, and Charlie does seem to start fitting in as time goes by. A gentle read, with some non-explicit spicy bits, so not for those who enjoy more excitement, but one that did grow on me.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influenced my review of the book and have already pre-ordered it.
This was a surprisingly emotional romance where the MC goes from no romantic prospects to three. I wasn't totally sold on the men she had to choose from - something just didn't work with any of them. An easy read though with plenty of laughs as well as darker feels!

This book, while good, is written for a specific audience. not being from England, I found myself confused by some of the verbiage and that took me out of the story time and again. The premise of 3 male leads was enticing; I was engaged to see who she might choose. However, I was not really invested in Charlie as a character. She seemed likable, but the way the story was told didn't even her many endearing qualities and let us get into her head. The loss of her sister was a big plot point and the conversation with her mom and at her grave was endearing. This romance was just not for me.
I cried. This was lovely. A farm that gives to the community and sprinkles love and character and hope to those that work there. Between the rehabilitation from drug use, the abusive home life and Charlie who wants to settle down and sort herself out, the farm gives life to them all. Romantic and beautiful.
Charlie isn't the first girl to lose her job and a boyfriend in one day. She's now homeless and jobless and heads back to her parents house to live until she finds a job and gets back on her feet. She swears off men and will work on herself for awhile and so, of course, that's when she meets a guy who asks her out but she says no. Charlie has a lot of emotions she's not dealt with very well that result from her older sister dying at a young age. Charlie gets a job on a farm, definitely not her ideal situation but also gets a place to live with someone at the farm. It was good to see Charlie grow as a person throughout the book. She made a really bad choice in a boyfriend when the one she wanted to be with had been in front of her. 3 1/2 stars.
Charlie lost her job and her boyfriend in two short days and now she's moved home and taken a job at a farm. And she's met three men- Will, Gabriel, and Franco. Is one of them her true love? Fox has created three different men, with distinct characteristics and you'll undoubtedly dislike one of them (I did) and root for one of the other two. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. This will make a fine beach read.
Pip Fox gives a fresh new take to modern day romance with I KNEW YOU WERE TROUBLE. In it, Charlie, our MC, gets her life turned upside down in a single day — losing her job and getting dumped by her long term boyfriend all in one go.
From that moment on, Charlie decides to swear off dating, and instead throws herself into reinventing herself and her career. Which ends up meaning taking a job as an administrator at a farm — a role that leads born-and-raised-in-a-city Charlie to face much more than she bargained for.
Fox’s I KNEW YOU WERE TROUBLE is a solid beach read. It drags at some points, but is absolutely worth sticking around to the end.

Thank you to One More Chapter and NetGalley for an ARC of this book.
The story starts with Charlie lost in life, after being fired from her job. And dumped by her boyfriend. Broke and evicted, she heads back home with her tail between her legs. She soon starts searching for a new job and a new place to live, while also swearing off men!
I personally found the writing style of this book not to be a fit for me. At times it felt so wordy and went into great detail about things that just weren’t relevant to the story. After finishing about half of the book, I just couldn’t continue reading because it was a such a slow moving story.
You can't help but love Charlie! She moves through life in a chaotic spin, but when she takes a seemingly unsuitable job in desperation she realises she actually enjoys the constant challenges. Falling head over heels in love brings her delirious joy, different challenges and some difficult choices. But Charlie's life and the characters of her friends, family and colleagues kept me smiling throughout.
This was a great book, I loved the fact that having been once to Ruskin park I could really imagine the setting they had created and I also loved the main character, Charlie. She felt very real, we’ve all identified with that panic of what to do with our lives and it was great to see her find her people, and find what she was good at in the farm. It was definitely frustrating seeing her be swept off her feet by the wrong guy, and for her to take so long to feel strong enough to stop what was clearly a disaster waiting to happen! A wonderful ending and all round enjoyable book
