In Pip Fox's 'I Knew You Were Trouble', Charlie is 27 and lost. Losing her older sister when they were kids leaves her with a grief that has her drifting from endless crappy admin jobs. After her second worst day every, she finds herself moving home after being dumped by her cheating boyfriend of two and a half years.

This book had a lot of promise. I am a big sucker for what's known as women's fiction, than flat out romance, whereby the main story focuses on the heroine's personal journey coming into her own power, with the romance as the cherry on top side plot. The highlight for me was watching Charlie grow her confidence in the difference she was making in her new job.

Unfortunately I think it got too bogged down in one of the three hinted potential love interests. I don't have a problem with this relationship being toxic (this is relatable for many women who've experienced this), however I felt this dragged on too much, and the resolution was from circumstances versus Charlie learning from her mistakes, which was a missed opportunity. What I found incredulous was also that same character popping back up again (how did he know she'd be there?) to cause trouble, resulting in the other love interest distancing himself from her - all while showing signs he was overtaking Charlie's wishes, giving us, the reader no chance to see Charlie also tell this character she didn't want to see him.

Fox touches on inequity and race, which I liked (one of the love interest was a black man), however it felt a teensy bit clunky, especially given Charlie was a white woman he was pursuing (and frankly I didn't understand why he would want to after she embarassed him earlier in the book).

I liked this book overall, for me the strengths were seeing Charlie kick arse at work. I just wish the writer focussed on this aspect more, with less on the relationships (perhaps remove one of them as a love interest entirely instead of returning him into the running), as there was so many other interesting potential plots that could've been given more of a prominent role.

Thanks to Harper Collins UK and One More Chapter and NetGalley for the ARC.

This was an very unique story. The ideas and the way they are displayed to the reader is odd, the best way I can describe it is like a fly on the wall narrating the story. I dont know why but the descriptions just seemed out of place and a little forced. The story moved quickly even though it takes place over several years. It was a decent read with a good plot though

I was lured in by the title and the cover, but the book fell flat for me. It was a struggle to get through, and I almost DNF it. The description and cover of the book do not really fit with the story. The description makes it seem like it's going to be a fun story about a woman who has three men that she can/will date. In reality, the men are not very exciting, and there isn't much of a romance.

The FMC, Charlie, is struggling after a recent breakup and firing from her job. As she searches for a job, she meets Gabriel at a coffee shop. Of the three men, he is the one that she has most of a connection with. She finds work at a local farm. While at the farm, she meets Will, who is a rich older man (he is described in his 40s and she is 27). She also meets Franco, who is 3 years younger than Charlie, and he is a tattoo artist/artist of some kind.

The character of Franco is a train wreck, and I was disgusted by him. On the surface, he seems like a fun fling, but he quickly turns into someone who was repulsive. I don't want to give spoilers away, but his actions and behavior are criminal.

Will seemed like a great guy and so did Gabriel. The book spent too much time on Franco and not enough time on the much more likeable men,

Overall, there were too many characters and no one that I was really rooting for.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter for an ARC of this book.

A book title that is a Taylor Swift lyric? Sign me up! This book was a good read. It felt a little young for me but I was still able to read and enjoy for what it was. Being in my 30's, I may just not have been the target reader! But I would recommend picking this up for YA fans!

Charlie Hughes is sacked, dumped and made homeless on the worst day of her life. Returning home to live with her parents and her sister, she decides she doesn’t need a man and focuses on getting a new job and one she likes. But her vow to not date doesn’t stop three men showing interest in her. Who will she choose to open her heart up to? And will it be the right decision?

The novel had potential and started off well, but it was slow in parts even though a lot happens over the course of the two years it features. The fact that the novel focuses on three men and their interest in Charlie meant that it didn't feel as romantic as it could have been. I felt like there was no obvious winner in the prize for Charlie's heart.

The one delight of the novel was the description and detail of the fictional Ruskin Park Farm. That is where the interest really lies and a lot of the action takes place here. While it is billed as a romance, it felt more like a soap opera set around a farm with twists and turns and drama added in for good measure. These moments were interesting but the ones in between failed to hold my attention.

What a wonderful book about finding yourself, your place in the world and friends. An inspiring turnaround that makes you realise mistakes happen along the way but it's all part of your journey to happiness. I was totally invested in Charlie and her job and housing crisis.

Enjoy I did.

Synopsis: Charlie S. Hughes is 27 and needs a plan. Her life’s a mess and up until now her love life has been less than thriving.
But when not one but three guys take an interest in her, things get a lot more interesting:
Will, the enigmatic farmer from Yorkshire.
Franco, the edgy and yet completely unpredictable artist Or Gabriel, the brooding but supportive friend she just happens to have a lot in common with…

This book was cute… definitely not my writing style. I did enjoy the farm aspect and the wonderful programs that were mentioned. I feel if I knew more of London and their slang/terms, I may understand more of the jokes. I don’t think I would say this is a romance from the synopsis. Yes a bit of dating but I feel Charlie’s career journey was more the focus which I resonated with. I wish there was a POV from the others cause I feel there was a lot left unsaid. I did enjoy Charlies journey and they guys were cute also! This book is available June 1st if you’d like to read about adorable farm animals!

I received a ARC copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I felt like the story was slow and for such a short book it was a little bit of a bummer. The story was also a little hard to follow. The potential is there and I can’t wait to see what the author writes next

I really enjoyed I Knew You Were Trouble - it was chaotic, Charlie was a mess and her life was all over the show. I found it relatable, quirky, sweet and heart warming. I adored the farm setting, the drama thrown in with animals and boys and the backstory of Charlie's family. The tidbits about the changing seasons were a nice touch. I think this is a great wee read and can't wait to see more from this author.

This book had a decent premise, but there were so many pointless words to get through in order to find the main plot. I wanted to like this one, but Charlie was barely tolerable in the first third of the book. She had a bit of a “woe is me” complex but she was largely to blame. The three men were just awkward written and I didn’t find them all necessary. The Jools storyline also felt really forced. Ultimately, too many ideas, and words in general, were shoved into one book and it didn’t make for a relaxing or enjoyable reading experience. 2⭐️, 2🌶

I think I am just too old for this book. Not every book is for every person, and this book is definitely not for me. I just do not have the patience and tolerance to deal with the actions of the main character. I did read this book to the end, but it was difficult. I wanted to stop reading many times.

Not only was I dreading what would be the next inappropriate action by this immature person, I also did not like the style of the book. Each chapter began with a narration of the setting and description of what was going on in the area. I found this very irritating for some reason, which I cannot really explain.

I read to escape real life and this book has political opinions express as part of the story. I did not enjoy that (Not saying I do or do not agree with them, just do not want them in my escapism time.).

I think maybe someone under 30 might enjoy this book. The underlying story of a farm in a city was very interesting and that probably is what helped me to finish reading the book.

Thank you to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and NetGalley for allowing me to read read the advance reader copy, with no obligation to write a review. My review is written freely as a hobby, and is totally my own opinion, not influenced by receiving the ARC.

Thanks Netgalley for allowing me to read this book. Charlie has not had good luck with men. She is single and meets three very different men who shape her life in different ways.

What a charming read this was in the end, although it took a while to get there. Charlie is a very messy character, which I liked but at parts the writing was a bit all over the place.

It took a while to get into this book, with some of the characters being a little juvenile in behaviour. However, by the end of the book I was totally enthralled. Based around Charlie and her poor work habits to begin with and poor choices in boyfriends. She secures a job at a city farm in London, (I didn't know there were city farms) a charitable venture, set up to give the community a source of education, employment, and skills. Charlie ends up loving this job and the people she works with. The characters were well developed and described, I really did feel I could visualise them all. The feel good factor of the animals was also endearing.

I Knew You Were Trouble by Pip Fox is a charming romantic novel that will leave readers wanting more. The story follows the journey of 27-year-old Charlie S. Hughes, whose life is in shambles, as she navigates the complexities of love and relationships. After being dumped and fired, she takes a job on a farm where she meets three potential suitors: the mysterious Will, the unpredictable artist Franco, and the brooding Gabriel. As she tries to figure out who is the right fit for her, trouble arises, and Charlie must decide between her head and heart.
The novel is a delightful mix of humor, romance, and drama. Charlie's relatable character and witty dialogue make her easy to root for, and the supporting cast is equally well-developed. The story is well-paced, and the plot twists will keep readers engaged until the satisfying conclusion. Overall, I Knew You Were Trouble is a fantastic debut novel from Pip Fox and a must-read for fans of romantic stories.

I was excited to read this story based on the title and cover, but unfortunately at 50% it will have to be a DNF for me.
I’ve struggled to pick this up since it was sent to me. I’ve found it extremely difficult to connect with Charlie the MC, mostly because I feel the author does a lot of telling rather than showing. We don’t know much about internal conflicts and emotions that go on throughout the story. Maybe this is due to the writing style/third person story telling?
The other issue for me is we’ve only just been introduced to love interests, and at this point I don’t find myself rooting for any or even wanting to find out what happens.
Thank you to Harper Collins & NetGalley for the opportunity to read.

I really enjoyed this novel as it kept me entertained and parts were laugh-out-loud funny! Charlie lost her sister Jools when she was young, has recently been dumped by her boyfriend, and has been fired. On a whim she takes a job on a farm although she knows little about it and is constantly surprised by both animals and people! She meets Franco, a suave tattoo artist who woos her but there's something "off" about him. Add to the mix Gabriel a Hungarian butcher, and Will a debonair black man who runs the company. And we're off to a sometimes magical tale of relationships, revenge, and ultimately happiness. Such a lovely book!
