The switch between present and past was well written and the story was so emotional. Not just a romance story but a life story about the struggles of these two people who are clearly destined to be together.
Heartbreaking and emotional this is not a fluffy romcom, it is deeper than that and really takes you on a rollercoaster of emotions.
Don't get me wrong there is comedy and humour in amongst all of it and the story is very well balanced.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5

This was my second book by Kelsey Humphreys and she has now become an instant read/buy for me! This book can be read as a stand alone, but the Canton sisters are great, so I recommend reading the other too in the series.

Sadie is attending her sisters wedding where her ex boyfriend, Shep, is attending. Both heartbroken, hurt, but still attracted to each other. They have known each other for 18 years, and the story goes back and forth telling their history with dual pov.

This book was heartbreakingly beautiful, hilarious, romantic, and just overall great! I finished it in one day and I know this is one I will read again and again.

*3.5

I enjoyed this and I had a good time. I do however think that we spent too much time in the past but I also think that all of it was necessary? I think what I would do to fix it is have more chapters in the present sprinkled throughout. It felt very heavy on the past and if there were a few more present chapters in between then it would fix the problem. But the two of them were adorable and I want an extended epilogue where they find out they are having a kid.

I received an arc through netgalley.

4/5 ⭐️ So much love for your writing Kelsey!!! ❤️

IMO the past-to-present and major timeline jumps writing style is really risky - both the ‘flashbacks’ and ‘present’ storylines have to be really interesting otherwise it’s just too difficult to follow and get into (this is probably one of my biggest DNF writing styles) Things I Wrote About did this SO WELL! The flashbacks were perfectly timed that you were frustrated and just wanted to know what happened next with the present, but it gave the perfect backstory at the perfect moment. Definitely kept me hooked.

Sadies inner musing and banter with her sisters is hilarious, which was really needed to balance out the darker themes (i.e. addition) and heart-wrenching breakups.

And we ended with a HEA but also a huge book hangover, so it’s bittersweet 🥲

Kelsey Humphreys has become a must read + instant buy for me, I adore her writing and have loved all of her books. They are fun, sweet, spicy and laugh out loud funny! Everyone should pick this up!

This series from Kelsey Humphreys is so good. Really good. I will say, however, I would not consider THINGS I WROTE ABOUT a rom-com.

This book is a romance, certainly, but the topics are incredibly heavy for a romantic comedy. Addiction is the driving force in this book. So much so, the romance almost takes a back seat.

However, I sped through this book. It was heartbreaking at times. Sadie, America's paramour novelist/screenwriter can't get her own love life on track because of Shep - the one who got away again and again and again.

These two kids were never on the right page. But they were soulmates and by golly, this was going to freaking work at some point!

I thought their chemistry was amazing, but they would say things that were borderline too mean. Then again, they were both struggling with very serious demons so...

Thank you NetGalley and Magnamour for an e-copy of THINGS I WROTE ABOUT to review.

I rate THINGS I WROTE ABOUT four out of five stars.

This book is going to stick with me for so long… so heartbreakingly romantic!!! I started this book midday and then could not put it down. Even though I had to wake up early the next morning, I stayed up until 1:30am finishing this book—that’s how spectacular it is!

Nothing could compare to my excitement when I got “Things I Wrote About” in my hands. Kelsey Humphreys has secured her place in my heart when it comes to her books! She hit it out of the ball park yet again! Humphreys has one of the best writing styles out there. Everybody needs to discover the Heartlanders companion series! I feel like Sam with all of my exclamation points, but that's how great this series is!!!!

I SO appreciated how dense the book was. A plot like this needs so much meat to it and Humphreys gave exactly that. The amount of times my heart dropped down to my toes as well as having my feet kicked up giggling was giving me emotional whiplash. The chapter structure was absolute perfection.

I just have so many feelings about this book and so little ways to explain them without spoilers, so here are the bullet points:
- 10/10 writing. Kelsey Humphrey’s is a hidden gem
- Sisterly dynamic is still reigning top tier
- Second chance romance done at its best
- SO MANY EMOTIONS (be prepared to laugh, cry, scream, and hold your breath)
- Length was perfect. I love a long, fleshed out book!

I just have no words at the moment for how much I loved reading this. Basically this book could not have been written any better and I cannot wait (!!!) for the next one in the series!

Thank you so much for Netgalley and Victory Editing for the arc of this book! You can also find this review on my instagram @chicklit_reviews

Sadie writes romance novels that all the world loves. Only problem? She can’t write her own HEA.

See, she’s been in love since she was 16 with ex-football star Shep Riggs.
Only problem with him? He drinks too much, and has demons that he can’t control.

Oh, and he’s been in love with Sadie since he was a teen, as well.

This book was so emotional I could only read it a little at a time. Through 16 years of taunts, comebacks, breakups, and addiction, these two circumnavigate one another like two warring nations.

When they are forced to spend a week together on a bridal party vacation, all the emotions that have been festering for all those years finally come to a head.

While I really loved this story there were so many times I felt that Shep was just down right mean to Sadie – and mean in a very hurtful way. I understand his motivation- and it was drawn perfectly by Ms. Humphrys. But still, it hurt to read his words and know that Sadie didn’t know the true reasoning behind them.

Thanks to Netgalley for a peek at this book, the third in this sister series, in exchange for an honest review.

I’m giving it four emotional stars.

I love how quick witted and funny the characters are in this book. I'm partial to a romcom and this ticked all the boxes for me!

This is the 3rd book of Heartlanders series from Canton family, it can be read as stand alone. My first in this series and this book is good.

The story have back and forth timeline, from present moment and 18 years ago and step foward to the future. Sadie and Shep have long history, from bestfriend to enemy to lovers. Grow up together, have crush to each other, doubt because different social status, abussive parents make low self-estem rooting and trigger different path way. One wedding they meet again, the fire still there, they bickering and act hate each other but cant resist the pull between them. Well that happend if you dont have proper closure lol. I like Sadie siblings, their story and drama bring colour in this book.

Thank you to NetGalley for provide this book, it is pleasure to review this book.

Sadie and Shep have a complicated relationship. They are meant to be together but life keeps pulling them apart.

This was a quick second chance romance with lots of heavy subjects. The chapters go back and forth from past to present to really paint the picture of Sadie and Shep’s long journey to love. It also touches upon overcome loss and addiction. You find yourself rooting for the couple as they come together and separate more than a few times. Sadie’s family were a fun bunch to read about as well. I did want some more from the couple though. I needed way more groveling from Shep. But all in all, a good read.

-second chance
-wedding setting
-big family

I received a copy of Things I wrote About via NetGalley to read and review.

I usually read RomComs and very rarely read a strict romance. But this sucked me in. It’s heavy but still had good humor. The characters are messy but in a they are living real life messy.

This book is part of a series but you are able to read this without reading the others first. But I’ll honestly be going back to read the others now and then the next in the series.

If you're like me and you live for romance tropes, this book is for you! There were so many tropes to love including:
-Second Chance romance
-High School and College sweethearts
-Friends to Lovers
-Enemies to Lovers
-Sports Romance (He played football)
- Forced Proximity (They are trapped on an island together for her sister's wedding!)
- A romance told through flashbacks (going from their high school days up until the present)
-Some steaminess!!

'Things I Wrote About' is the next book in The Heartlanders series by Kelsey Humphreys. Sadie and Shep have known each other since they were in high school. She had a crush on him, and then, they became friends. As their friendship progressed, so did feelings for both of them. They could never find the right timing to be together, and they haven't spoken their breakup.

Now, as they come together on a remote island for her sister's wedding, Sadie and Shep are forced to confront their past and come to terms with their future. They hate each other, but do they really? Is there more behind their hate? As Sadie and Shep begin to talk, they both realize that there was more to the other's side of the story. The real question is: are they willing to listen to each other and try to move on?

There was so much in this book to love, and it was filled with unexpecting plot twists. I laughed out loud, but I also cried through many parts of the book. There were so parts of the book that handled heavy topics, but it was very well done.

I can't wait to read the next book in this series! Thanks to NetGalley and Victory Editing for an ARC of this amazing book.

Thank you NetGalley!

I loved this story!
Though I didn’t realize this was part of a series but i was fine for most of the book.
I love enemies to lovers books so i knew i was gonna love this.
It had many shocking moments as well as vulnerable moments.
I loved the epilogue and can’t wait for the other books in this world!

This is the third book in a series about five sisters. It’s about Sadie and Shep, who took the long route to their HEA. We’re talking crushes to friends to lovers to enemies and back to lovers. I don’t usually like flashbacks in books but they were definitely necessary for this story.
I loved the sisters together—Cool Runnings!—and I appreciated the vulnerability shown by the author in sharing part of her real story with us. I will say that although it was a great read, I didn’t like this book as much as the previous two. While I liked the story, the writing was a bit hard to follow and unpolished, and everything kind of went off the rails in the epilogue just to set up the next books. That said, I’m absolutely still on board for those stories, but I hope they aren’t rushed to sacrifice quality for quantity!

Three and a half stars.

Sadie met Shep when she tried to sneak into a party. He was newly transferred to her school, a football genius, already revered by half the school and lusted over by the half. Although he told her effectively 'go home little girl' she couldn't forget him and couldn't wait to go to high school.

Flip forward twenty years. Sadie is a best-selling romance novelist and several of her novels have been turned into films, Shep is a big-time football agent and they have history, the bad kind. Sadie's sister Sam is getting married to a fabulously wealthy British businessman and throwing a luxury destination wedding for 600 people over an entire week. Not only is Shep one of the groom's best friends, so is her ex-fiancé Dennis. There aren't enough Margaritas to ease that sort of pain, if Sadie drank anymore. Shep and Sadie have always had sharp banter and digs at each other, but can they keep their turbulent past under wraps for one week?

Told through flashbacks from both their points of view and present day (ditto) this book meanders back and forth through their will-they, won't they romance. It is also (I now see) the third in a series, so there is also a lot of reminders about other people's back stories and Sadie's four sisters, all of whom seem to have names beginning with S which makes it hard to tell them apart. Kelsey Humphreys seems to adopt the 'throw the kitchen sink' approach to novel writing because this book has everything death, abuse, addiction, divorce, miscarriage, and a bit more talk of praying to god than I am truly comfortable with.

All of the above mean that although I did enjoy this book it also felt awfully long (unfortunately I can't see how many pages) as we flashback to Sadie and Shep doing a rinse-and-repeat meeting, kissing, fighting, parting over the years.

Available on Kindle Unlimited.

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley in return for an honest review.

Sadie is a popular romance writer but she can't write her own HEA. She will see her ex-best Shep at her sister's wedding. She is surprised to hear Shep's side of the story..... Will she get her happy ending finally?

I love the smart, sassy banter. The sisters are so funny together. I like Sadie but it's the whole cast of characters that made this book outstanding. Really enjoyed it.

Thanks to the publisher for the arc.
