Super cute colorwork patterns! Rangel gives a great sampling of different motifs for any knitter to apply to their projects, and even gives you some patterns to try them out on. In addition, in the introduction to this book, Rangel gives a brief note about the relationship between fiber type and colorwork. This book would be great reference for any crafty knitter or knitwear designer!
I love this stitch dictionary!! I had been looking for some of the shapes/motifs in this book prior to reading it, but couldn’t find any I was happy with. The shapes/motifs in here are perfect and exactly what I was looking for! And I haven’t gotten to try it yet, but I think they would be perfect for crocheting and cross stitching too, not just knitting!
This is a beautiful book with unique stitch patterns that are helpfully charted. The beginning does give some basics on what yarn is best for stranded colorwork, and there are also patterns to try the technique. I think this will appeal most to those who are comfortable designing their own knit ware, or at least modifying their projects. The designs are lovely, fresh and modern, without being strange. I fully intend to purchase a copy for my own use when it is released to the public.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to review this book.
Perfect for those who appreciate cleanly charted colorwork designs with a graphic, modern sensibility. The book walks through the properties of yarn that impact how colorwork shows up, presents a number of designs, then incorporates a few projects that use colorowork motifs. For legibility, charting patterns in black and white is preferable to matching the color with that of the yarn used in the sample. Given the limited sample, it is hard to assess the range of the book.
I was not given much of the book to review. I was told a PDF would be sent for me to review but that never happened. From what I can see of the pictures that were displayed, this books contains beautiful and engaging motifs not found in other books. I have Angela Rangel's previous stitch dictionary book and I have pre-ordered this book. I am, however, disappointed that nothing was provided to actually review.
This is a great tool for people who knit because it has all the different types of stitches and how to do them.
I only got a sample of the book but from what I saw it has clear instructions and the patterns aren’t too wordy. The patterns that were in the book looked really pretty and it made me want to try them out.
I recommend this book to any knitter who wants to learn/relearn some stitches and colorwork.
This was an interesting book. I thought the information presented was well laid out and flowed well. I really enjoyed reading it and want to try and start implementing some of what I read.
I e-mailed the publisher to get the full copy of the ARC, but I never received it. So it's difficult to give it a full review. The first few pages looked promising thought.
This is difficult to review as just a small sample of the book. I can't say how clear instructions are, but it looks like a nice variety of colorwork patterns.
Thanks to Penguin Random House and NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.
An outstanding guide to stitches that so many of us would never know about, much less try, if not for dictionaries such as this one. The craft knowledge and skill displayed in this pattern sample provide invaluable support to those crafters not lucky enough to live close to a crafting store. If you have someone on your gift list that knits, they'd appreciate a copy of this book for the rest of their lives.
Very unique stitch patterns for color work. As a knitter, I am always interested in new pattern ideas, and will definitely recommend this to my knitting community. The copy I received didn’t have the pattern instructions, as it was a pre-release, but I would love to try knitting up some swatches once the full book is published. The notes about yarn and color work are clear for me, as an advanced knitter. I would say this book is better for intermediate to advanced knitters. New knitters might find it a bit too challenging. My favorite patterns are the florals and the birds. Lovely work, Andrea Rangel!
Colorwork may be a more advanced knitting technique, but the author does a great job of explaining things to set you up for success. KnitOvation Stitch Dictionary begins with a helpful guide to choosing the best yarn for your colorwork project - not all wools are created equally and I really appreciated this guide!
The photographs throughout were clear and very easy to see. There is a good variety of different colorwork patterns ranging from simple leaf patterns to more complicated - dragons, dinosaurs & hummingbirds - oh my! This book sample also includes a bottom-up hat pattern that appears easy to follow. I also appreciate the inclusion of a variety of different sizes so you can knit this hat for your whole family if you wanted.
Thank you to Interweave and NetGalley for this sample of the collection. I can't wait for the release of the finished book and will be back with a more in depth review once I read it.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
Wonderful and informative knitting book. The graphics were helpful. Maybe not beginning friendly but if you were an experienced knitter, there’d be great, new ideas here for you to try.
Sehr schönes Buch, wenn es wirklich nur so wenige Seiten hat, finde ich das sehr schade. Denn mehr davon wäre gut gewesen. Daher nicht so ideal
Excited to see the finished product! From the sample given here, I can see that the photos are great quality and the explanations are well written. Colorwork is a more advanced technique, but it seems like this book is written with both beginners an more experienced crafters in mind.
This is just a sample of the upcoming book and there was a limited amount to look through and review, but it’s absolutely gorgeous and looks like it will be a wonderful resource for colorwork knitting.
The first chapter guides the reader through various yarn choices and fiber content for colorwork, the samples are just beautiful, and the chart and written instructions for the Domed Toque were clear and well written.
I very much look forward to getting my hands on the finished product and knitting my way through it!
Thank you to Andrea Rangel, Penguin Random- Interweave Press House and NetGalley for the sample.
I thought this was a very nice recourse for someone wanting inspiration. It has some lovely ideas, not for the master knitter but certainly for the average knitter wanting to extend their knowledge.
A big thank you to NetGalley and Penguin Random House/Interweave for the eARC. I am voluntarily reviewing this book. Okay I admit, I didn't read the blurb properly and had no idea that this was just a sample. So at first I was very confused. Once I figured it out, I realized that this is not a beginners book. At least from what I read. I did think the patterns were gorgeous. I will wait til I get the real book to speak more. So far its a 3.5.
This is a book that any colorwork loving knitter should add to their library. I love how the unique and modern designs can be incorporated into accessories, clothing and home décor. The first chapter is dedicated to talking about what yarn choices are best for colorwork and she gives tips to help you along they way. There are flower, duck, horse, and sock motifs, just to name a few. The charts are clear and appropriate for any knitter who has some basic colorwork experience. Andrea is a wonderful designer. I have been following her and buying her patterns for many years. I will be purchasing this to add to my knitting library.
