It was shown 160 pages book but in description they mentioned only sample it is. However, designs were good. I wish if there was more of it.
This was so lovely! There are so many patterns that are easy to follow and I am so looking forward to using these stitches in a variety of projects! My brain is overflowing with ideas. The images are so lovely and I look forward to seeing all the creations that come from folks using this book!
This looks like it’s going to be a great book and I put in a request to see the entire book once it’s ready. I really liked what I saw so far and look forward to seeing more. 5 stars!
5 stars.
It appears as though Andrea Rangel has done it again - made knitted colourwork fun, easy, accessible and interchangeable!
I own a copy of Andrea's first colourwork book: *Alterknit Stitch Dictionary: 200 Modern Knitting Motifs*, and I love it. I also receive her newsletter and follow her on social media. As a Canadian knitter myself, I think that she is doing great things and is also a joy.
So far, I have only received the 13-page teaser of this forthcoming second book on colourwork. The designs are loads of fun and incredibly usable, and the hat pattern is dynamite.
I have been promised a copy of the the full ARC when it is ready, and I look very forward to seeing everything that Andrea has come up with this time. I am also knitting a lot more colourwork these days (and even doing some test knits now), so I hope that the other patterns contained in this book are as much fun as those in the last.
I promise to update this review as soon as the full ARC becomes available.
Huge gratitude to Penguin Random House - Interweave Press and NetGalley for both teaser (and eventual full) ARC copies of this knitting design book, in exchange for my honest review.
Beautiful designs to inspire knitters to try colorwork using charts. Good explanations and clear charts make it easy to try.
KnitOvation Stitch Dictionary by Andrea Rangel is a great book for knitters looking to add a little flair to their projects!
As a knitter and needleartist/designer, I love how thoughtful and thorough Rangel's book is. With illustrations, charts and photos of finished projects, it's easy to follow, beautifully designed and helps manage the knitters' expectations of how the various stages will knit. The book includes a wealth of clearly organized information about each project, what to expect, various tips, and more. Andrea also shares a myriad of tips of how to manage various fibers, wools, etc.
The patterns themselves are two tone and classically beautiful.
All around a beautiful book and would absolutely recommend to stitchy friends!
Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Random House for the opportunity to receive a sneak peek in exchange for a review!
It's hard to give complete feedback on an incomplete sample of a book. I like this conceptually. The patterns that were included in the sample seemed pretty interesting and well-written. I like the idea of a book of design elements that can be plopped into each of the different patterns to create different projects, but it was unclear to me from the sample included whether or not that was exactly how this book works. The hat pattern included looked good, but I didn't see anything that specifically said I could insert any of the previously shown designs into it and make it work. I would really enjoy a book that let you easily combine all of the elements in order to create a hat for each kid that matched but had their own unique design choice (ie maple leaf for one, lotus for another). Perhaps that is how this book is meant to be used, but as I said, it wasn't made clear from the sample included from Netgalley.
Another book from the author of the amazing AlterKnit Stitch Dictionary, KnitOvation does not disappoint. Like the first, the stitch dictionary contains tips and tricks like how to pick yarn and generally do stranded knitting to a pluthera of new stitch charts and some neat projects to customize with them. While I only have the sample version right now via NetGalley and am on the list to receive a full copy when it releases, I can already tell I'm going to love it. From a neat geometric wave to oak leaves and water lilies, there will be something for every knitter and every season.
If you have ever looked at a sweater and wondered "how did they do that pattern? It's so cute" this is a great guide on how to make the stitches turn into wonderful things.
Only a sample, but nonetheless, I enjoyed seeing what was presented and if I can understand the instructions, any of my crafty ladies can make their projects turn out.

Very excited to get my hands on the finished version of this one! The preview looks pretty and the instructions are easy enough for even the most basic beginner to follow.
KnitOvation Stitch Dictionary is a great collection of knitting motifs. The beginning of the book contains a lot of useful information about fibers. Then there are tons of motifs with provided charts and pictures. The charts are easy to read and the multiples of required stitches for repeats are provided. In addition there are patterned that incorporate the morifs. This book is a great additon to anyone that love knitting.
WOW, WOW, WOW the color work is just amazing, This is not for the faint of heart or a beginner but for the right person this is just amazing. The charts are clear and the descriptions of yarn and color were spot on,
I was able to read an early sample of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publisher.
This book is a great addition to anyone's knit library. The chart are clear, and plentiful, and the patterns will be great to practice designing my own patterns! There is a section that also covers how to design with colorwork..
I really wanted to review this book, but the copy I received via Kindle is unreadable. I sent an email to the company 15 days ago requesting they send me the entire book, per the note from the publisher. I have not received any response from the company. I would have loved to review the book, but can only do this with a copy that I can read.
Only saw a sample but loved the parts I saw! Cute designs and a guide to choosing what fibers ro use!
Not since Barbara Walker has a knitting stitch dictionary inspired the knitting community as much as AlterKnit did. All knitters and knitwear designers must have a copy on their reference shelf. The community has been impatiently waiting for the release of KnitOvation and Rangel delivers. So many adorable pattern in her easy to follow charts and instructions make color knitting accessible for all skill levels. Some patterns are included as well. I only saw a sample file of this book but I am super excited to get my hands on a paper copy. I will pre-ordering this title for my knitting reference shelf. Grab a copy ASAP!
Much like the first stitch dictionary this book exceeds all expectations. The charts and patterns are beautifully detailed. This I believe is a staple if you like fair isle design. Even for beginners. I will be using many of the charts in the upcoming months with much excitement!
This book is about knitting. I enjoyed the patterns, they are very cute. I love the design of them. I've tried some of them. They are easy to understand and to adapt multiple projects. I will recommend this book for advanced beginners and more for ideas.
Since this was just an excerpt, I can't say definitively how great it is, but I liked what I saw! The designs were fun and detailed. I look forward to seeing the book in its entirety.
Magnificent collection of original ideas for knitted colorwork! After seeing just this brief sample, I went to look to see when this book was coming out, because it would make a useful additions to even a long time knitter’s library.
