Empire of Rebels was an incredibly fun read for me. I couldn’t get enough of the story. When it ended, it left me wanting more
Received arc from Victory Editing Netgalley Co-op and Netgalley for honest read and review, this review is my own.
I must admit I like my fantasy books and this one was no exception.Brilliant story and awesome characters that had me hooked from the beginning.
Ali is the kind of main chaperone who brings everything and everyone together and with hopes to bring down the tyrannical empire.
This is an action packed book that doesn't stop until the final page.
Well Worth a read if you like action, fight sequences etc.
It reads fast but the effect lasts!
Loved the story. Ali is gathering fighters from the seven kingdoms to fight Emperor Ceres.
It's a fight of good vs evil.
A litteral fight with violent clashes of swords, axes, daggers and arrows. And with several twists, like in any war : sometimes you win a battle and sometimes you lose.
And a moral fight. The rebels, from various origins, learn to overcome their difference to work together for the better good. And they'd give their life to defend justice.
This book is the first in a series. It introduces a whole set of characters whose adventures I'm now eager to follow
This story has potential, this writer has potential. At under 200 pages this book is one that you could finish is a few hours, or its a great afternoon-into-the night read. Like I said the story has potential. However, I found the writing to be equivalent to the essays and stories I grade from my high school and Junior high kids or a very young wattpad author who is new to the whole writing for an audience thing. Within the first few pages of reading I found errors that need to be corrected. For instance where Ali rides up on the Empires Knights on a road and stands in front of them but then it states "the room erupted into laughter". I seriously had to take a double-take and re-read the whole section to see if I missed something. I thought to myself, "Did I miss where they entered a tavern?". Little things like this as well as some grammatical errors made the reading tedious for me.
But....I don't like giving an all around bad review. I don't want to discourage this author in their pursuits. In fact I would gladly pick up another story by this author and give them another chance. I think that first time books are always hard, and I know that putting your work out for reviewers takes tons of courage. So, I want to be the critic that, while not enjoying this book at all for various reasons, still wants to encourage the author. Your book has so much potential, you do as an author. Take time to build your world, draw the reader in. Take time to flesh out your characters through not only descriptions but phrases that cause a response from the reader. Make your characters rich by inviting us into their world. This story needed some backstory, some building up.
Thank you for the review copy in exchange for an honest review.
Six different people from different places and backgrounds and a mysterious swordsman who lead them to bring down the corrupt empire and to restore their freedom. Empire of Rebels is an action packed and fast paced read and full of jaw-dropping twists. It's just that the story and the character's activities, situations and thoughts are mainly being described between the paragraphs. Maybe this is a personal preference, but I'd like it more if the characters could directly convey their thoughts rather than being decribed. I would advise everyone to search for the trigger warnings before diving into this series. If you like a fast paced epic fantasy, this is a great pick!
Thank you NetGalley for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.
