This was such a good, fast-paced thriller! I was hooked from the start. What a wild and twisted journey Leslie Wolfe took us on in this book!

The past and present are brought to a mind-blowing collision in the end that will leave you speechless 🤯 I never saw the twist at the end coming!

I loved Anne. She did not deserve anything that happened to her. I absolutely hated her husband the entire book, and even more at the end. I also hated Paula from the beginning. She’s crazy and obsessive. I did feel for her a little at the end of the book.

I loved this book and can’t wait to get my hands on Leslie Wolfe’s next book!

What a thrilling read this is! A definite page turner which kept me up late at night to carry on reading.
A highly successful cardiac surgeon, who had never lost a patient during surgery until.....she did. But was it a tragedy that no one could predict, or was it murder?
Anne Wiley seemed to have it all, a great career with the respect of her colleagues, a lovely home with the support of her mother and her handsome husband, so what went wrong?
The twists and turns in this book kept me guessing, and the ending I didn't see coming at all!

I don’t think I’ve ever hated characters as much as I hated 90% of the characters in this book. Even Anne earned my rage a few times. My Fitbit thinks I’m doing an exercise regime but really I’m just MAD AT EVERYONE’S BAD CHOICES.

This was filled with twists and turns and I was literally filled with rage continuously beginning like 4 chapters in. I want to thunk everyone’s heads together. I want to scream at them. There is like one likable person total in this entire book and it’s not even all one person it’s like very small bits and pieces of multiple people. Actually I think I liked Madison wholly but that’s it. But even though I hated them all I still read the entire book as fast as possible because I needed to know what happened. And that is saying something because if you can keep my attention even though I hate everyone, then you’re winning at something 😂

4.5 stars, rounded up. The surgeon is a medical/political thriller that pulls you into the story right from the start with Anne asking herself, “What have I done?” You’ll be racing through the pages, learning more of each character’s back story, leading to shocking discoveries. The character development was great despite characters being unlikeable. You will be frustrated by the actions of some of the characters, but intrigued at the same time, waiting to see what they’ll do next. This book is full of unexpected twists and I highly recommended it. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars was I didn’t like some of the ending of the book.

I so wanted to love this, but I also think I was expecting a much more medical thriller. It wasn’t. While there was a vague theme of medical in it, she was a surgeon after all, it really wasn’t overly relevant. Instead it felt much more political thriller which isn’t my sort of thing. It was easy enough to read but I couldn’t stand most of the characters, The main character was beyond irritating and self pitying at times I wanted to shake her! There was a twist at the end that I didn’t see coming but it felt a bit jarring and unbelievable. Overall it was an ok read, just not what I was expecting from the blurb!

Surely, he'll has his wife's back and go to boot for her, right Derreck? Or, will this 7 month long affair seal that deal of loyalty till the end in love and war?
Ahh, the tension builds as readers are led on this maze of emotions from hostility, to anger, to deep seeded revenge and so much more.
The ending was powerful and it makes one wonder just how devoted should one couple be when the other is unfaithful?
As this plays out we've also had to face the truth of another situation and twister that plays out involving a young boy at 11yo named Simon Degnan who was shot to prevent testimony? Testimony that could incriminate and put a man named Vicente Espinoza behind bars.
Now, all of this comes to fruition because who wants to run for Mayor with all of this coming to a boil? Right-Derreck?
Well, it seems to be time to face the truth and process the past before it catches up to the present in this heart pounding gem!

The book was a enjoyable read and was very hard to put down from the very begining. Characters are very well written, you know the characters are well written when you get really mad at them as if they are real (Paula). I really enjoyed reading this book!

This is a story about hate, jealousy and deception. The twists come one after the other keeping the reader very invested in what will happen next. Anne Wiley is a happily married cardiothoracic surgeon with an impressive record in the OR. Then we meet Paula, an ASA well on her way up the ladder of success hoping to become the State Attorney General. She's having a torrid affair with non-other than the man expected to become the mayor at in the upcoming election who is a married man and hoping to keep their affair secret.
During a surgery Anne spots a specific birthmark on the patients face and at once she recalls who he is. His heart doesn't respond to resuscitation, and Anne suffers her first surgical death. That's all Paula needs to start proceedings into the unexpected death into becoming a murder. Anne also questions herself as to whether she committed murder on a man she wanted dead. There are lots of tense moments and a very big, surprising twist to the story. There was too much technical information about cardiothoracic surgery than was needed. The story was good and held my interest throughout and the ending was the most perfect twist of all. I would recommend the book.

You will not get any sleep until you finish this book once you start it. Any book by Leslie Wolfe is an automatic read for me. This one was a little different than her usual style, but it was just as thrilling as her other books. I guess this one would fall under medical thriller, but I would also categorize it as a psychological thriller because it definitely will play with your mind. It was a good mix of intrigue, suspense and secrets.

Anne is a successful heart surgeon who has never lost a patient. That's right... she has never lost a patient. She is devastated when her patient dies on the operating table and after trying to resuscitate him, she has to pronounce him dead. She looks behind the curtain to see the face of her patient, and shudders as she realizes his true identity. When she met with him pre-op, he had a beard and always wore a ball cap. Now she knows his true identity, and she wonders if she allowed him to die after she identified him. You, as the reader, are in the dark as to his true identity for a while. The pace picks up after this tragedy, and you are introduced to her husband, Derreck and a fiery Assistant State Attorney, Paula, who does not care who she steps on in her climb to the top. Trust me.. you will not like Paula. Anne was an awesome character. She did not have the pretentious attitude that you would expect from a successful surgeon. She truly cared about her patients.

The twists were mind blowing. The past and present are brought to an astonishing collision in the end that will leave your heart in your mouth. The anticipation of waiting on the next shoe to drop will leave you glued to the pages of this book until you see the words "The End". Leslie Wolfe has written another winner.

Thoughts - I really enjoyed this book. I loved Anne and didn't think she deserved any of what happened to her. Her husband is a class A jerk, and I'm glad he got what was coming. Paula was crazy and obsessive, and even though i didn't like her for the majority of the book, i felt so sorry for her at the end. (IYKYK) There were so many twists and turns that I didn't see coming in this one, but the biggest shock was at the end! Honestly, it was so good. Go pick this one up! Out on the 08th March!

What a suspenseful read! I just finished reading The Surgeon and my heart is racing! What I love most about the book is that from cover to cover, I was hooked. I devoured The Surgeon in less than 2 days! The characters, plot, and ending were absolutely perfect! I cannot wait to read more from Leslie Wolfe!

A medical/ psychological thriller which I devoured in one sitting. Great characters and a good storyline. The back story which runs through the book was heartbraking. A twist I never saw coming. All in all a good read.

This was a slow read at first but then I couldn’t put it down. The authors descriptive ability is comparable to Taylor Jenkins Reid IMO. I could vividly picture most of the book and while I could see some of the conflict coming I really enjoyed this.

It was easy to tell that Mr. Mayor was going to be Derreck and that Paula would involve herself in the review. Paula was horrible but her character kept me reading to see what she’d do next.

I thought there was some very well planned plot twists. I didn’t see Anne’s mom knowing about who her patient was or administering him potassium coming. I also never would have guessed that Melanie was also Paula’s sister.

WARNING: the unpopular opinion train has added yet another unscheduled stop this month!!

Right... I surely didn't expect to be in this position again this month to be honest. I've been meaning to try Leslie Wolfe's work for ages, and when I saw this stand-alone I thought it was the perfect opportunity to finally do so. I loved the sound of the blurb of The Surgeon, with the main character being a surgeon who just lost her first pacient... Unfortunately, I ended up struggling considerably with this story instead, and I came close to DNFing more than once. Below I will try to explain what didn't work for me.

First of all, I have to say that I found the blurb to be a bit misleading. Sure, a man did die during surgery, and sure, the main character did hate him. But she didn't know who he was until AFTER he was already dead, so I don't see how anyone would see her as a murderer... This also wasn't the only focus of this story. Oh no, there is a whole another POV that basically involves an absolutely despicable character and a lot of active cheating going on as well as a strong love triangle vibe. If I had known about this second POV and active cheating angle, I would not have touched this story with ten-foot pole... A little warning would have been nice; especially since there is so much focus on the cheating during the whole story. I know most people might not be bothered by it, but it is a major pet peeve of mine and something that instantly makes me enjoy any story a lot less.

Also, why do all the characters have to be so unlikeable?! Paula is particularly despicable and I absolutely hated every single minute I had to spend with her. She is a self-centered, vindictive, scheming and simply horrible piece of trash, and a corrupt one at that for trying to use the justice system for her own devious plans. The husband and lover I have not one good word for; and especially since the story kind of makes him come over as a good guy? Or at least in a rather bland kind of way, without too much development. And the surgeon Anne... Boy, did she get on my nerves! Not only did I feel that she never really 'killed' her patient in the first place, but her constant worry and guilt became so frustrating I wanted to throw my kindle against the wall. The constant repetition of her worries and fear that the police was coming for her was just overkill... I also found her particularly clueless in general about what was going on in her life, and I wondered how she could be so blind about her husband.

Between the active cheating and horrible characters, I struggled enormously to actually make it to the final page. In fact, I started skimreading long before the halfway mark, because I honestly couldn't care less about what happened to any of them... And I realize now that the best option would probably have been to just DNF it instead of continuing to torture myself. I do know that I'm in the minority when it comes to The Surgeon, because it has been receiving glowing reviews so far... But this doesn't change the way I feel about my experience with this story, and I'm putting my two cents in just in case there is someone out there with a similar experience to my own.
