It was amazing. I absolutely loved every single second of this. 10/10 would recommend to literally everyone I know
This YA novel was heart achingly beautiful and I loved it <3
Evan and Shosh and both going through a grief so deep but so different and finding each other turns out to be the biggest light found in their darkness.
Now I am NOT an ET fan (trauma from my childhood - don’t ask) but DAMN this book made me want to be. A wonderfully written child character can make a book for me and wow Will was the best young character and his conversation with Shosh about Frog and Toad had me sobbing (IYKYK)
A vivid and uniquely told story that made me appreciate the beauty of writing. Sadly this one wasn't for me but I hope it finds its home and audience!
A unique love story that spans across the ages. It requires quite the investment in the beginning of the book, that doesn't QUITE pay off in the way I was hoping by the end, nonetheless, I enjoyed the beautiful, ethereal writing and still found the characters intriguing and enjoyed reading about how their lives eventually are woven together. Heartfelt, emotional, and complex! First read by this author and I'd definitely be willing to give his other works a try. 3.5
David Arnold's 'I Loved You in Another Life' is a captivating journey through time and love. The unique concept of soulmates reconnecting across centuries instantly hooked me, and Arnold's masterful writing skillfully brought this idea to life. The historical settings added a fresh perspective on love, revealing its universality throughout time. One particular scene in 19th-century Paris beautifully portrayed the timeless ache of longing, perfectly showcasing Arnold's grasp of emotion and tone.
Beyond the concept, the characters stole my heart. Evan's witty dialogue and internal struggles felt genuine, while Shosh's strength and resilience resonated deeply. Their connection, both in the present and their past lives, felt genuine and emotionally charged. The plot, weaving past and present lives with a touch of mystery, kept me guessing and eagerly turning pages.
If you're looking for a love story that's both romantic and thought-provoking, with a touch of historical flair, then 'I Loved You in Another Life' is a must-read. This book is especially perfect for fans of unique love stories, emotional journeys, and beautifully crafted prose. Thank you to Netgalley and Viking Books for the gifted copy.
This is a the love story of Evan and Shosh, two young people in the present day who met each other because they were both hearing the same imaginary music. Throughout the story, we see that, like the title says, they loved each other in other lives.
I thoroughly enjoyed this. It was a beautiful story with well-developed characters throughout the book that created a deep emotional connections to the leads. While the idea of the people have been matched in other lives isn't totally new, but this book puts it into story in a unique and, lyrically-written way. I had the privilege of reading a pre-release, but I wish I'd had the book itself to look back at some of the reflections into other lives. I think I missed a few connections to the other selves, but it didn't take me out of the story.
Definitely recommended for romantics, philosophers, and people who enjoy a book for more than story alone.
Thank you to Penguin Teen for sending me this e-arc!
This book was so very gorgeous and I am so happy that I read it. While this book is YA and has those YA lines and moments that some might consider cheesy, it still managed to be poetic. The characters viewed the world in such a poetic way and there would be lines that would just hit so hard. While this book is a romance, there seems to be more themes of family, grief, and following your dreams. The main characters didn't even fully meet until the middle of the book and I was still hooked. I wanted to keep reading about these characters and how much they loved their siblings. I wanted to keep reading for these random unhinged lines that made me laugh. I wanted to keep reading for those scenes of the characters meeting in past lives. They're very scattered throughout the book, but they are always so interesting and always follow a similar theme. One character is always an artist and the other always loves music, no matter what kind of lives they met. And even though the characters didn't fully interact until the middle of the book, their relationship already felt deep because of this soulmate bond that they had with each other. They were lead to each other and even though they didn't know why or how, they knew it. I will say, some of the pacing kind of threw me off. Sometimes I was a little confused with the jumps and had to figure out where in the story we were. And I did find the ending a little bit unsatisfying. But overall, this book was stunning and it has my heart.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to receive this book for an honest review.
Unfortunately I did not finish this book. I felt a fantasy vibe and that through me off. For that reason I am sad to say I have to give it only two stars.
i actually didn’t mind this fantasy. it was more focused on the romance which i think helped me get through the book. the conclusion left me with many questions which isn’t always my favorite after reading a book
DNF--so slow and boring. I just couldn't get into it. I was listening to it and had no interest, and my mind was wandering. Usually with audiobooks, they make the time fly by, but not this one. I did not find it interesting or compelling, despite the description.
The premise for them, but having a past life seemed interesting. It might be something that only really works very well in movies. I haven’t read too many books that use it, but this one room was definitely an interesting read. I would say it is not exactly a quick read, but I didn’t thoroughly enjoy it
**Thank you to NetGalley for sending me this book in return for an honest review.**
I'm sad to say I just really didn't vibe with this book. I tried several times to get into it but I think it's safe to say that I don't mesh with the author's writing style. I was confused for a good portion of the book. I love the concept and am sad that I didn't end up liking this one.
New York Times bestselling author David Arnold returns to the YA world with a story of grief, healing, and music. Set to be released on October 10th, I Loved You in Another Life is truly the unique book you need to add to your TBR this year.
This book was so engaging and had me following the plot lines as they threaded into one another. I loved the way everything in this novel connects to one another and how you don’t even realize I’m the connections until the chapters are over.
I also loved the character development of Evan and Shosh. They are both grappling with losses and big life events in their own way, but the way the universe or some cosmic being brings them together to heal and grow is beautiful to see.
Aside from Evan and Shosh’s relationship, I also loved the different relationships shown in this story: Evan’s relationship with his brother, Will; Evan’s friendships, Shosh’s relationship with her teacher Ms. Clark; Shosh’s friendship with Ruth; all of these show just how much the people we surround ourselves with impact our lives, no matter how big or small, and it’s a beautiful thing to see.
The poetic and lyrical way this book is written and how the timelines and storylines mirror and overlap with one another makes this a truly unique book. I cannot recommend it enough.
*I received an ARC from Penguin Teen in exchange for my honest opinion.
Shosh lost her sister to a drunk driver, and has hit rock bottom during her grieving. While in a drunken stupor, she hears a woman singing a mysterious song. Evan's father walked out on their family and he is now trying to care for his younger brother after learning about his mother's diagnosis. Evan begins hearing the same song of the woman.
This is definitely a slow paced book, but it allows you to connect with the characters and get to know them on a more personal level. The supporting characters were amazing. Will, Evan's younger brother was definitely my favourite character. He was such a cutie, and I just wanted to give him a giant hug. I loved Ali and Mrs. Clark as well. I thought the interspersed chapters of Shosh and Evan's past lives were interesting, but I honestly didn't care too much for them. I don't know if there were too many, or not enough, but I just wasn't feeling that aspect of the story.
The biggest complaint I have is the ending, it left me a bit confused and unsatisfied.
A massive thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!! I really enjoyed this book; definitely something I will tell my friends about!
I read this books description and was captivated. A timeless love story. A true magical lifetime love. A story that restores your faith in soulmates and true love. While slow it’s a book that’s worth the read.

I liked this book, but I didn’t love it as much as I wanted to. I didn’t realize this book had a magical realism aspect to it, which is usually hit or miss for me. Unfortunately, I got so lost in this one.
I did like the idea of these two characters connecting time after time during different timelines. I also enjoyed the musical element of the story. This book also had a Dual POV, which I truly think helped the story. I don’t tend to pick up YA romance as much anymore because they feel so cringe at times, however, I felt like this one was written in a solid way.
I loved Evan’s character the most and felt so many emotions when reading from his perspective. He had a lot going on with his family and it felt so heartbreaking reading about his parents.
The different timeline is what threw me off a bit. I got so confused with the way the narrative was told. Overall, I didn’t love this book as much as I wanted to, but it was still a solid read with some enjoyable elements.
Thank you so much NetGalley and Penguin Teen for the review copy in exchange for my honest review!

Arnold is on my list of authors that I try over and over again to "get" and I never do. What a stellar cover and title to pull me in and the idea of time hopping and epic romance is also inviting-- I'm a Lovely War and The Time Traveler's Wife and An Arrow to the Moon.
Yet, this fell flat because it was ostentatious for a teen novel. I didn't vibe with the writing or the concept though it was marked accordingly that I knew where characters were in time/space however I didn't know why I needed to know these characters because there wasn't enough exposition.
Overall, a 3/5 stars
What drew me to this book was not ultimately what kept me reading. The description discusses a soulmate plot line that was the reason i wanted to read the book — I am a sucker for soulmate novels. However, I feel like the soulmate aspect of the book was underrepresented in the prose, I found myself more interested in the present day rather than the past. The switching between timelines were very muddled and I felt like the “full circle” moment that I was wanting to happen, some discovery that they were always meant to be connected, a big “will what happen in the past happen again” never came to fruition.
I think the execution of the novel was the weak point for [me](http://me.as) since I didn’t have an interest in anything aside from the present day, which is where I realized that I wasn’t fully enjoying the book.
Definitely do think the writing and the two main characters were a standout and will consider reading from the author in the future!
This one was cute. Thank you for a gifted copy in exchange for a review.
I liked the concept but was a little confused in spots.
I would recommend this for fans of They Both Die in the End.
