A cute book about a little girl who is teaching her chickens how to read. Filled with funny anecdotes and a sly fox, this book is likely to get your child excited about learning how to read or reading.
I received an eARC of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
An adorable book to get beginning readers excited about learning to read and a gentle reminder that it can be hard at first. But to keep pressing & new worlds can be opened through reading. I have a rising Kindergartener & this would be perfect for her!
This book was so cute! I loved it and can’t wait to have a physical copy on our shelves. My kids love chickens and they love books, so this was a hit!
My son and I read this book together to get some prospective from both his side and mine. Overall the book was good and kept my attention and my sons. I understood the comparison almost from the beginning and I think the author did a good job using the animals as an example of how to even become a good reader. My son is currently in the 2nd grade and not hugely interested in reading, but he was able to understand and really caught on. Maybe that is what he needs to do to find things that I like ! He thought the fox was fun and relatable since we know foxes and hens are not in line with each other. I think this is a great book that can be used to help children really grow to learn to read.

Hatch the Reader is a sweet little picture book. It proves somewhat motivating even if the rhyming can get a bit…irritating. just a bit. There are some poor, poor parents reading this. The message is near perfect, however.
Learning to read (in English) can be so much fun!
The story shows a little girl teaching her chickens (while the fox hides here and there trying to catch a chicken). The principles are sound and make learning to read a lot of FUN.
The illustrations by Rachel Suzanne are fun, simple, colorful, and DELIGHTFUL.
Well suited for reading WITH someone of any age including ESL, and great for gifting to anyone, but especially to a school or your public library!
I requested and received a free temporary e-book on Adobe Digital Editions from Gnome Road Publishing via NetGalley. Thank you!
A funny story with bold and colourful illustrations. Lots of broken down words where children can use their phonic knowledge to decode the text themselves. The children will enjoy the mischief and quirky story with lots of laugh out moments. It would make a good addition to the classroom library.
Thank you to NetGalley, and the publisher for the eARC! This is a silly story about a girl teaching her chickens how to read. Its relatable for those learning how to read. A cute read for younger aged elementary aged children for sure.
This is an adorable book with colourful, vibrant illustrations that I know beginning readers will love. A little girl teaches her flock of chickens not only how to read but to love doing it. It is the perfect book to get kids excited about reading. The book is a wonderful tool for teachers and parents to have in their arsenal to teach kids how the reading process works.
"How to Hatch a Reader" is full of humour and fun. The little girl instructs her chickens to rest their chicken cheeks and get comfortable. Witty puns fly throughout the pages which will make both kids and adults laugh. The chickens practice letter sounds, point out common sight words, and much more.
Kids can watch for a little fox that pops up on each page. How fun is that? The author has included useful back matter that will be beneficial to both parents and caregivers. I would recommend that the book be placed in classrooms and school libraries. I love the book and highly, highly recommend it.

Oh my word this book is adorable!! Kids are sure to connect with some of the reading behaviours described. The illustrations are just too cute. I can't wait to read this with my students; whomever I affectionately call my little chickens.
5/5 stars.

This is such a cute book about learning how to read and chickens. It’s funny and creative and such a beautiful way to encourage little kids to learn to read.
I will definitely be reading this book to my future children.
As a 1st grade teacher I am always looking for books to read to my students about being readers. This book is coming soon and is an adorable way to show new readers how to get ready to read and some strategies they will need along the way. The author uses a little girl in the story who is teacher her chickens how to read. She reminds them to find a cozy spot, sound out the letters, and so much more! The illustrations are very colorful and vibrant as they take you on the little girl’s teaching journey with her chickens. This book is a good tool to get your young reader excited about reading! #howtohatchareader #netgalley #netgalleyreads #karianngonzalez #bookstagram #childrensbooks #readwithmslucy #mslucysliteracycorner

***** I received this book as an ARC free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
This children’s book is not only great for kids, but also for teachers and parents teaching them to read. It was really cute with the chickens and the fox. The words with the same letters would be perfect to point out as you read. An all around great read.
A must read. Quite funny book about teaching the chickens with whom she is very comfortable. The little girl teaches they must find a comfortable reading spot. She suggests their beds where they can all be together and she can teach them their AB’C’s to form familiar words. Most pages kids will be able to find the fox lurking about. The chickens learn to scritch out. Words. The back of the book is a couple of pages instructing best practice when teaching to read for parents or anyone who is interested in helping children to read. This little girl is so overjoyed to know and love to read. She wants to teach her friends. I would suggest reading this to preschool children or let very young readers to give it a go.i definitely would encourage reading this book. The illustrations were subdued and highlight the book’s passages. I was given an early copy for which I have given my honest opinion. Special thanks to the following for allowing me to review early:

I thought this was a really great and hilarious story about teaching a flock of chickens to read! The puns were fantastic and will have kids ages 4-8 "cracking" up! The illustrations, made with a mix of digital art, pencil, and scanned textures are bright and eye-catching, and will captivate the viewers. Kids will enjoy pointing out the sneaky fox on each page, and the final reveal when the chickens catch a reader. The book also contains useful back matter describing parents/caregivers how to teach reading and incorporate early literacy skills.
This book was perfect for my 4-year-old because we are a huge reading family and I've always loved to find him books about the benefits of reading.
There were several jokes in this book that had him laughing. His favourite part was pointing out the fox hiding on most of the pages!
