Loved this! I found it very interesting, didn't get bored, and found the premise unique. It kept my attention, and i couldn't guess some of these twists. Recommend!

I'm a huge Josh Lanyon fan and while I enjoyed this one it wasn't my favorite. It took me a little bit to get into this one but once I did I liked it. However, I would have liked to read about the initial relationship and not just jump into this book with characters that are reunited years later.

Exciting book to read it had a great plot that played out well. Great characters that fitted well together. Very well put together

I really enjoyed this novel! I love books centered around small town settings. Everyone knows everything about everyone, I would hate that 😆. The book starts immediately with the break in of the shop, and snowballs from there. And when I say snowballs, there are snow globes at the center of this novel. I would highly recommend this cozy snowy mystery!

Another great read by Josh Lanyon.

Set in a cute east coast part of America with the usual good, bad, and ugly characters, gorgeous scenery, and... murder... it was a perfect cosy crime read. Original, while still being distinctly a Lanyon book. All the right blends of intrigue, emotions, humour, and characters.

I find myself hoping there will be more in this series as there is a lot more I want to learn about Quinn's past, as well as his and Andy's future.

Great read, highly recommend.

I enjoyed the story but the romance aspect of it fell a little flat. Also being a quaint town and the reestablishment of a relationship was giving Hallmark vibes and I wasn't a fan.

Andrew couldn’t catch a break in Hide and Seek. Not only did he seem to be playing a dangerous game of “Hide and Seek” from his abusive boyfriend, but his refuge turned out to be just as dangerous as the situation he was running from. Add to that the fact that he didn’t stay hidden for long and the local authorities didn’t believe that the danger that landed his uncle in the hospital in critical condition still existed and the hits just kept coming. Almost literally. Having his high school crush show up back in town should have been a bright spot, but it just added to the questions and the drama.

I don’t want to spoil anything because there were more than a few twists and turns in Hide and Seek, but just know that nothing is exactly as it seems. Neither in the past or present. Gotta love a good mystery – something that Josh Lanyon usually delivers.

The mystery was well done. I always enjoy the author's ability to keep all the parts moving while having multiple suspects and ever changing hypotheses for whodunnit.

MC1 has a bruise from his ex for the length of the story and his ex makes threats, shows up, and is an overall menace. MC2 is a mystery... until he's not. I like that he tells his story before it's too late, that was a plus.

I enjoyed this book and the mystery but it *kinda* has my greatest annoyance regarding second chance romance- the way too easy move from profoundly hurt to trying again without adequate time to heal/forgive/get won over. The entire story happens in just a few days and there's A LOT of hurt at the beginning plus it hovers in the back of MC1's mind for a majority of the story... I cried! The discussion between lovers regarding their past actually made me angry and I never quite moved on. It was a struggle for me to enjoy the romance but I did enjoy the mystery.

I am actually shocked that I did not like this one more. Josh Lanyon is amazing at combining elements of romance and mystery/suspense. However, I struggled to believe in the romance element within the story because there was not enough character development and progression from a nearly 20 year separation. There was a lot left unsaid. Additionally, I found certain scenes to be kind of cliché and not what I was expecting from a Lanyon read.

This one is not a favorite but it's a good and entertaining story that kept me reading.
It's gripping, kept me guessing and I liked the characters even if I wasn't a fan of the romance.

I was feeling overwhelmed with things in my life, so a respite from the author of my favourite comfort reads seemed like a nice break. Turns out I'm not a big fan of romance stories featuring (re)established relationships. Unless of course, they're part of a series that features the complete progression of said relationship. Jumping into stories that constantly throw out hints toward deeper issues having happened off-screen? That's just annoying. Otherwise the story is kinda cute, sort of back to the basics, albeit with a tendency towards too many tangents mid-sentence.

All in all, it wasn't too bad: I liked the chemistry and the love interest. The sex scene however was bit tame compared to some of Lanyon's older books, which seems to be a trend in her newer novels.
Bottom line: it just didn't excite (cough) me as much as I hoped

This was awesome!!! Andy and Quinn are some of the best characters I've read in a while. I am on a real reading winning streak. :)

The story starts (more or less) with Andy having just left his abusive ex and arriving at his uncle's shop in Safehaven, only to learn he is in the hospital after having been attacked by someone who broke in! Being thrust into the story like this worked for me, mostly because we were learning about what was going on at the same time as Andy. Had he known things that I didn't know, then I would have had a problem with it.

This is a very cute and nice little town, where everybody knows everybody and their business (dirty or otherwise). Though there is definitely something going on because someone keeps trying to break into the uncle's shop. Andy is determined to figure out what is going on because he loves his uncle and is terrified he will not survive. The sheriff (or whatever his title is), is a real idiot (he is very bad I don't have the words) with a grudge against just about everybody, especially Quinn, Andy's old flame who disappeared when they were kids. Andy thought he was (view spoiler) and is shocked to see him in town. Quinn has certain...talents...that help Quinn deal with certain problems, one of which is Andy's ex, Marcus, who doesn't take no for an answer.

There is so much going on in this story but I was right along with them, anxious to figure out what is going on. I didn't want to put it down. I don't even know what else to say. There is romance, action, mystery, cloak and dagger stuff, a weird guy in a green fedora, and all kinds of drama with family and police. I really hope to read more about Quinn and Andy, I think there is so much more they have to share!

I highly recommend this and I really hope the audio becomes available at the library.

I've yet to read a book from Josh that I haven't enjoyed and this one is no different!

Especially when it's an adaptation, well, maybe inspired by versus a true adaptation.

Anywho, if you're a fan of Grosse Point Blank, you're gonna love this!

The story isn't a full retelling, but it does have many similarities, with various twists and turns that makes it's own story.

A museum curator goes back home to take care of his uncle's antique shop after an accident. Within the first days of his visit, he discovers that his first love has come home to stay. Over the next few days, they're thrown into burglary, murder, and a mystery that's stranger than fiction. At the end of the day, will he go back home or choose a life in Safehaven?

Josh Lanyon writes very absorbing romantic suspense. This one had a great story - but didn't draw me in quite as much as his other books do. Andy is a museum curator who is trying to get out of an abusive relationship - only to arrive to find his beloved uncle almost beaten to death. Andy lived with his Uncle during the summer while he was growing up and even one full school year. While he was there - he experienced his first love with town bad boy Quinn. Quinn left in the middle of the night the summer before college - and Andy truly thought Quinn's grandfather had murdered him. When Andy returns to town - he finds that Quinn is also back. Quinn is all grown up and an ex-operator for the CIA. Together they travel a very convoluted path to keep Andy safe from his ex and figure out why someone tried to kill Andy's Uncle..

A lot happens in a very brief time in this book - including Andy and Quinn coming back together again. It definitely makes sense in the context of romantic suspense, but there was just a LOT going on. I think some plot elements could have been maybe left on the editing room floor to make way for greater depth to others. But Andy and Quinn - in particular - were very interesting characters. I would have liked to know more about Quinn - and maybe a second book would do that - but for now he is definitely a man of mystery.

Overall - I enjoyed it but it wasn't love.

While I did enjoy this story, this wasn't the best Josh Lanyon story I've read. I had a bit of a rough time staying interested in the story at first. In the end though, I'm glad I read it.

I was drawn to the striking cover illustration on this one.

I enjoyed the last book that I read by this author, and I enjoyed this one too. It was another mystery with a touch of romance. Something about this book was quite comforting, and it warmed my heart to see the connection grow between the two main characters.

Hide and Seek by Josh Lanyon

Holiday fiction with a murderer on the loose, a mystery to solve, and a second chance at romance for Andrew and Quinn…if they can get it right. Great way to spend the day getting to know two admirable men and watching them solve a cozy mystery or two.

What I liked:
* Andy: museum curator, left his abusive boyfriend who won’t let him go, his uncle was beaten in a robbery and is in a coma, a bit timid, always wondered what happened to Quinn
* Quinn: difficult backstory growing up, considered by the town to be ‘bad’, good friend of Andy’s in high school, disappeared from Safehaven sixteen years before, retired from an interesting job, there for Andy
* The connection between Andy and Quinn and how their second chance progressed with sincere open adult communication, caring, and humor
* Being able to see Andy and Quinn happy together
* Uncle Cuthbert: in a coma most of the book, a good guy, protective, caring, there for Andy
* The Mystery of what the murderer was looking for and who the culprit might be
* The plot, pacing, writing, character development, and small town vibe
* That everything was tied up in the end with no strings left hanging

What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
* Thinking about why some people are the way they are and how they don’t seem to be able to see they are wrong, mean spirited, or rather impossible

I don't know how I feel about this book. The writing was fine. The characters weren't very likable. There were a few scenes I enjoyed, but honestly, i still have no idea what the storyline of this book was. I will try more from Lanyon though.

I liked Hide and Seek, but I found the relationship at the center a bit lacking. Andy has fled from an abusive relationship in the city to the appropriately named Safehaven, Maine, which has become less of one since his great-uncle lies comatose in hospital after a mysterious beating at his antique shop. I give points for menacing and dangerous situations, but I found there were a few too many twists and red herrings for my liking, and I never got to know Andy and his slightly elusive bad-boy love interest Quinn in the way I feel I would have with main characters in previous books. So, it was less intimate, there were people oddly named after cocktails or liqueurs (Mrs. Dubonnet), and I just felt it was a bit of a mishmash by the end, too plot-driven for my liking.

I have noticed that many of Lanyon’s books are now set on the East Coast, and I’m not sure why; the settings and even *characters* seem thinner and more generic because of this.

But it’s still a solid read, a “second chances” novel that doesn’t let itself deeply explore the doomed teenage romance between the two MCs. That would have stepped it up a notch, in my opinion. But of course it would have been a drag on the action, and a different sort of book. Along with some other readers, I also liked that it was a standalone.

A lot of pressure can be placed on standalone novels, but Lanyon does it brilliantly. You feel a genuine connection with these characters that will make you want to read a whole series that follows Andy and Quinn as they face new mysteries together. Lanyon has a talent for creating well-rounded characters that are relatable, charming, flawed, and real. Andy is a relatable main character that is at a crossroads in his life after leaving his abusive ex. His uncle's shop is his safe haven away from this relationship which is immediately shattered when he finds that the shop has been burglarized and his uncle was beaten up. The subject matter is serious and never strays from how serious it is, but Lanyon writes in a way that doesn't feel too much and never overshadows the charm of the characters. In a lot of ways, the plot is playful and light thanks to the dynamic between Andy and Quinn (his teenage love). Lanyon blends humor, tension, history, rom-com, and investigative duo to create a delightful couple that drives the mystery forward. Highly recommend this!
