Thank you, NetGalley for this advance copy in exchange for my honest review.

This was a really good book! It was my first read from Wendy and it certainly won't be my last.
A woman returns home twelve years after her best friend is murdered and days after her younger sister goes missing. She's estranged from her family and her return opens old wounds.

This book held my attention and kept me on the edge of my seat. The final twist was fantastic and the ending tied everything together so well.

I adore Wendy’s Detective Madison Harper series so I was thrilled to be reading this Stand-alone.

I was hooked from the very first page and boy what a wild ride I was in for as the book progressed!.

I was with Nicole every step of the way as she went back to her hometown to find out what’s happened to her sister Aimee, she’s never been back since she left town not long after her best friend Lori went missing. Will it turn out to be the biggest mistake of her life coming back?.

With so many twists and turns and shocks I could put this down, i finished it with a few hours it was THAT good.

I think I need to lay down now.

My parents seem to be the perfect couple...but no one knows what I know...

Everyone in Henderson knows the Chambers. Ron Chambers is their Sheriff and he has run the town and kept law and order in place with the people firmly on his side. But all that's about to change when their daughter Nicole receives a phone call from them saying her younger sister has disappeared, begging her to come home. After twelve years away from Henderson and her parents, it's the last place she wants to be. But Aimee was six when she left, and she would do anything for her sister. Including going back to a place she never thought she would ever set foot in again.

When Nicole arrives, her parents waste no time in dropping the bombshell. Aimee is eight months pregnant though they claim to know nothing of the father, citing Aimee would never tell them. Knowing her parents as she does, she doesn't blame her. But the more time she spends with her estranged parents, the more Nicole suspects they know more than they're telling her. This leads to blame and accusations being hurled, and before long Nicole's mother throws her out of the house telling her not to come back. They are definitely hiding something. But the question is what?

Being back in town brings back the bad memories Nicole has tried so hard to forget. When she was fifteen years old, her best friend Lori disappeared. The only evidence that something untoward had occurred was the blood soaked ground at a nearby children's playground Nicole, Lori and their boyfriends Lucas and Kurt used to hang out. But with no body, no one knew what really happened that night, leaving Lori's parents in a world of pain never knowing what happened to their daughter.

Nicole has her own secrets from that night. The argument she had with Lori before leaving her alone and off her face, for which she has always blamed herself. Maybe if she walked her home Lori would be alive today. But even so, Nicole knows that her parents know something about what happened that night. She even has her own suspicions which lead her to her own sister's disappearance. Has something happened to Aimee as well? Did she uncover something she wasn't meant to and silenced for it?

In a town where everyone knows everyone and everything before you do, Nicole doesn't know who to trust. There's Kurt, one of her father's Deputies and her childhood friend; or Lucas, her husband and childhood sweetheart; her parents, but let's face it...she's not had the best relationship with them for over twelve years. Who can Nicole confide in? Suddenly, she isn't sure anymore. Everyone she thought she knew and trusted were all there when Lori disappeared. Someone knows something...and they're hiding it from her. What is it? And will it help her find Aimee before it's too late?

THE NIGHT SHE VANISHED is a tense and taut thriller that I didn't know where it was headed. It was almost a slow burn to begin with as Nicole arrived in town and started asking questions and ruffling feathers. Her father was a popular guy in town and no one appreciated her pointing the finger at him. But was he really so squeaky clean? And then just when you wondered which direction it was going to take, about 50% everything you thought you knew was turned upside down and you're left with whiplash...say what? No! But in true Dranfield form, she keeps you guessing and tossing red herrings left, right and centre that you couldn't pick the right path if it fell in your lap! And when the twist came, I thought I had it figured long before...but I was wrong and realised a beat just before the reveal. Dranfield certainly kept me on my toes throughout.

The story unfolds mostly through Nicole's third person narrative with the odd narrative from Kurt, her parents and Tommy. We are transported back to the summer of 2008 when Lori disappeared as Dranfield takes us through Lori's final days and moments little by little, drip feeding us as we go. When the reveal comes I'm like "I should have seen that coming"...lol

This was my second read by Wendy Dranfield, the first being "The Birthday Party" which was so phenomenal I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to see what else she had on offer. I wasn't disappointed. She had me hoodwinked again!

Overall, THE NIGHT SHE VANISHED is an intense and addictive thriller with plenty of shocks, surprises and twists that will leave you reeling. Highly recommended.

Nicole left home as soon as she could. Her dad is the town sheriff, and her mom is a midwife. In the tight knit community of Henderson, they’re the perfect couple. However, no one knows what they’re really like and the secrets their holding. Now years later, Aimee, Nicole’s sister, has gone missing and Nicole rushes home to try to find her. When bones are discovered on a local farm, all evidence points to Nicole’s family. Will the secrets that her family have been hiding for all these years finally come to light? Will Nicole be able to find Aimee before its too late?

This was such a wonderful thriller that I couldn’t put down – it was so good! There was a lot going on in this one, so many moving pieces, but it all just worked like an intricate clock. I was hooked right from the beginning and that feeling stuck with me until the last page. It’s been a while since I’ve read a thriller I enjoyed this much. The writing style was just phenomenal, and the pacing was great – not too slow and not so fast you got lost. I loved the character development that occurred, I really felt like I knew the characters. I will say this one is big on the miscommunication, but if you are okay with that then you will enjoy this one.

Check out this fast paced and delightful thriller next week on March 14th!

I love this author's Madison Harper series as well as a prior standalone book she's written, so I was excited to read this new thriller. It has a great premise about a woman whose best friend disappeared when they were teenagers. Now years later, Nicole is returning to her hometown and the home of her estranged parents when she learns her younger sister is missing.

However, I couldn't connect with Nicole or any of the other main characters. That and the uneven pacing made this a slow read for me. Nicole starts out logically looking into her sister's disappearance and wondering if it's somehow connected with her friend's disappearance, but then she jumps to one conclusion after another. By the time the complete truth is revealed, many other secrets from almost every character also come out. This book just wasn't for me and I rated it 3.25 stars, but I am still excited to read future books by this author.

This book kept me gripped. I thought I knew who the killer was the entire time but I was absolutely wrong. This book has just the right amount of drama to keep you engaged. This is my first by this author but I’ll definitely be reading her other books.

I have to admit this book really didn’t grip me at the beginning. There were quite a few eccentric and odd characters who I couldn’t at first relate to. However the pace stepped up in the second half and the characters became more rounded the more that was revealed about them.
The book culminated in a rollercoaster ending which I hadn’t guessed at and I’m normally pretty good at spotting the finish. So despite a slow and frustrating beginning I did enjoy the book.

I have so many thoughts about this book but I could go on for hours so I’ll just say that… I loved it!! Everything about this was just spot on for me. The writing, the characters, the plot, and there were sooo many twists and turns I’m speechless after finishing it. I thought early on that I had it all figured out but let me tell you, I had no idea and the twists totally surprised me. I don’t want to give too much away because I think it’s better to go into this without knowing too much like I did and it will literally blow your mind! I’d give this a hundred stars if I could. I can’t wait to read more by this author, this was just brilliant!
Thank you so much to Netgalley and Bookouture for an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

Nicole and her husband Lucas are estranged from Nicole’s parents. When her mother calls to say her younger and pregnant sister, Aimee has disappeared, Nicole has no choice but to revisit her childhood home. Years ago her best friend Lori disappeared without trace and Nicole has always suspected her father had a hand in it. Has history repeated itself.

Loved this. The majority of chapters are from Nicole’s POV and are in the present. We get a few sprinkles throughout from Lori, Kurt and also from Aimee’s journal. The slow build up and the subsequent (many!) twists and turns, made this one I didn’t want to put down. The final twist was a shocker for sure.

For half the book, I was dead set I had figured it all out. Which started to discourage me, because I didn’t want to be right so early in the book and coast through the rest. BOY I HAVE NEVER BEEN SO GLAD TO BE WRONG. What you think is up, is not up. I really didn’t like the main character Nicole, she was out of control with her emotions and self sabotaged. Despite my feelings for her, I LOVED. THIS BOOK. Right until the very end, I wasn’t sure how it would end. GO CHECK THIS OUT!!

When she was 15, Nicole Rivers best friend Lori disappeared. Blood on the grass in the local park where she was last seen indicated foul play, but her body was never found. Now, Nicole's younger pregnant sister Amiee has also disappeared. A phone call from her mother, asking her to return home, sees Nicole and her husband Lucas travelling back to Henderson, the town where she grew up to be reunited with her estranged parents, Unhappy that little appears to have been done by her father, the local sheriff, to locate her sister, Nicole decides to investigate.

The Night She Vanished is Wendy Dranfield's second stand alone thriller and it's another brilliant read. The story is full of twists, turns and surprises with cleverly written characters whose motives you're never quite sure of . It's a total page turner with a dramatic conclusion. I have to admit to burning the midnight oil to finish this one, I simply could not put it down.

I would like to thank Wendy Dranfield, Bookouture and Netgalley for an ARC of The Night She Vanished in exchange for an honest review.

The book follows the main character Nicole as she has to visit her estranged family after leaving home years ago as her pregnant sister has gone missing, this brings up past memories of her best friend Lori going missing, with no killer and no body ever found. This book kept me hanging on to every single word and every twist and turn kept me reading for hours! One of the best psychological thrillers i have ever read and the ending (and plot twist) was unexpected and one i never saw coming. Thank you to NetGalley for the arc and will be definitely reading more by this author, 5 stars!!

Thank you for the ARC.

OMG I am floating after reading this book. I got up at 5 am to finish it before the kids got up because I was hooked. It was worth it.
cI love books where a relatable woman has to go home to her crappy hometown and solve a mystery. Our girl Nicole escaped her hometown as a teen with her boyfriend, now husband, and literally never talked to anyone else there again, including her baby sister.
But she has to come home when her sister goes missing. Once she gets there she discovers more and more things that probably reinforces her decision to leave.
It gets crazier and crazier as this goes on. Every single person in the story has layers of secrets, but they're also relatable. There is love and madness here.
I love that these small town stories are so "inscestual" because Salt Lake City is the same way.. You can't throw a stone without hitting someone who has history with your bestfriend, you husband, or your aunt.
I can't wait to read the next one.

Nicole has been estranged from her parents for years, stemming from her belief that they were responsible for the death of her teenage best friend, Lori. And since her father is still the town sheriff, she has no more belief in proving their guilt now than she did back then. She never thought she'd go back home, but the disappearance of her younger sister, Aimee, is the one thing she can't ignore. Especially if her parents are responsible for this, too.

She's welcomed back with the cold indifference she expected, even though it was her mother who reached out to her about her Aimee being gone. Yet they act like they don't know why Nicole would care, or why she came home to be with them. Unlike in most stories, Nicole's character isn't just quietly suspicious - she openly voiced her opinions about their involvement in Lori's disappearance and now in Aimee's. She doesn't hold back with her accusations, and that's refreshing because as the reader, you're thinking the same thing. Her parents continue to deny any involvement in either girl's disappearance while Nicole spends time sleuthing with an old friend who happens to work with her father in the police. Whether her parents are involved or not, Nicole is determined to uncover the truth. If she makes it out alive, that is.

The story perfectly captures small-town America and the inherent problems with the same people in power for decades. And the fruitlessness of casting guilt on any of them. And how any reputation you get will stay with you forever, as unfair as that may be. Nicole doesn't give up, though, and as outlandish as her suspicions can be at times, you can't help but admire her for speaking out when so many others would just let it go. The ending of the story is fitting and her persistence pays off. I can't say how, so you'll just have to read this book to find out.

I enjoyed this so much. Hooked me from the first page. Had me going back and forth so much on who was the killer that I think my brain is bruised. Same with who was the good guy and who was the bad guy.

Highly recommend not just this book but all of Ms. Dranfield's books.

The Night She Vanished is the latest enthralling standalone by the brilliant Wendy Dranfield. And it's a story that captivates from the very first page.

As Nicole gets a call from her estranged mother informing her that her eighteen year old sister Aimee has disappeared and she is expected on the next bus home. To the small Midwestern town, she fled, after her best friend Lori vanished.

Why? Because Nicole believes her parents were responsible.

But on her arrival she learns shocking truths about her sister and then bones are found on the land of a man once accused of rape.

And Nicole believes the bones belong to Lori. But why would they be on his land? That's what she's determined to find out and finally get answers about the night she vanished.

However, in a town full of secrets coming home could be the deadliest move Nicole has ever made.

And with shocks, surprises, twists and turns. This was a fantastic read. That genuinely kept me guessing and reading at the expense of everything else!

Once again Wendy Dranfield has written a real page turner. I struggled to put it down as I was completely engaged in learning about what had happened. The tension between Nicole and her parents is so charged, I could almost see sparks from my kindle. Of course, as the synopsis explains, her father is the local sheriff, which means that Nicole must be the one with the problem, doesn’t it?
Husband Lucas and childhood friend Kurt are the only people who understand the pain of her past. The sheer devastation she felt when best friend Lori, Kurt’s then girlfriend, simply disappeared. Now, it seems like history is repeating itself as Nicole’s younger sister has also gone missing.
As I have come to expect, Wendy Dranfield crafts her stories with a wonderful level of detail. The reader gets glimpses of what may have happened, but never really gets a clear view, so you are kept guessing until she’s ready to reveal the next clue.
I really liked Nicole’s character; she had the weight of the world on her shoulders and was dedicated to her distrust of her parents. Conflicted by her feelings, she leans heavily on the people that she does trust, but even then she has doubts. Her back story is revealed in glimpses and snatches which also adds to the tension. Her situation is complex and her past slowly gives the reader a clear insight into why she is so adamant that her parents are not to be trusted.
I loved the supporting characters, Kurt brings a familiar warmth to Nicole’s troubled mind, and she feels a strong connection to Lori’s brother. At parent level, she is conflicted about who she can trust. Kurt’s father and Lori’s parents all represent a difficult past. Even her mother-in-law has theories that frighten her and also add to her worries.
I have not read a single book by this author that I haven’t loved. I’ve bought copies for family and friends, and we all agree. Wendy Dranfield is a terrific writer of thrillers.
