Thank you to Netgalley, Mark Edwards and Amazon UK for this digital ARC. This was a breathless page-turner that keeps the reader wondering when this house of cards will fall. While parts of the plot lack plausibility, the unknown dangers and endless twist will keep readers engaged and wondering what more can happen?
This was another winner from Mark Edwards!!!
With this book he's gone back to the domestic suspense genre and he does not disappoint!
After 20 years apart, college sweethearts, Matthew and Helena, rekindle their romance and decide to go on a hiking trip together. While on holiday in Iceland, after a near-death experience, Helena confesses a dark secret to Matthew. And here is where the action-packed roller coaster ride begins!
The twists and turns in this book kept me glued to each and every page needing to know where this story was going next. I could not put this book down! Highly recommend!!
I was hooked from the first page. It continued all the way through. The plot keeps you guessing until the end.
I love Mark Edwarrds books and this one did not disappoint.
Thanks to NetGalley in return for an honest review.
Overall rating 3.5
Thanks to netgalley for an advanced copy. I do really like this author, and this was another solid read. It kept a solid pace with some good twists and turns I didn’t see coming. Most of the characters were unlikable which is always interesting.
I felt like the ending didn’t quite totally come together so rounded down to 3.5 from 4. I would read this author again.
I received this book from Netgalley.
I read this book in one sitting because I had to know what happened.
At the beginning of the book I could have sympathy for Helena and for the fact that she killed Lee. However, once she pulled Matthew into her mess with the situation with Devon, I started to dislike her intensely. It was her fault, her situation, and then she still has such a blasé attitude about it. Also, why does Matthew try and go to retrieve the file? Helena should do it seeing as it's her fault.
I couldn't put this book down. It was full of twists and turns and so many things happened that I couldn't have predicted. While I really disliked Helena by the end of the story, she was psychopathic, the book itself was still really good!
Well, I wouldn’t expect anything less than a twisty tale from Mark Edwards. Helena and Matthew reconnect after many years apart. When she comes very close to dying on a trip they take to Iceland, she confesses a very dark secret to Matthew. He is willing to keep her secret, but they soon find out someone else overheard her confession. Someone with an agenda that consists of blackmail and quite a bit of cash.
Helena and Matthew are in over their heads as they try to figure a way out of this mess. Spoiler alert: the story gets much messier and secrets and lies take center stage. A fast paced page flipper, with some surprising twists and some characters who were truly truly loathsome.
You could read this as a dark comedy as the stresses pile on. In fact, at one point, one of the characters does indulge in that a bit, imagining that they'll have to deal with the whole village, like a twisted take on "The Woman Who Swallowed a Fly." At the same time, this hints at the plausibility (or not) of the story.
To put it another way, you'll have to let the book take its liberties with believability. Once you do, you'll find a cracking story that'll keep you guessing as to which character, if any, is reliable.
I waited impatiently to read this book and I know that Mark Edwards will never disappoint me in any way.
This story is very well written, it pulled me right in and had me engrossed from the first page to the last.
You will not rest until you know the ending.
And it is, well... pretty good! I enjoyed it and look forward to the next book by this author.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Amazon Publishing UK and Mark Edwards for an ARC.
Talk about a twisting and turning plot! Just when you think nothing else can happen, something else does! Even while doing chores around the house, my thoughts would wander to the book and I tried to figure out how the main character/characters were going to get out of the predicament he/they were in. I just didn’t know who to trust.
Mark Edwards has been at this writing thing for years and like fine wine, keeps getting better, in my opinion. I loved his Magpie books and The Hollows (one of his recents) has become one of my favorites. Keep Her Secret is now added to the list. Well done, Mr. Edwards. A good read full of suspense!
I am very pleased to report that Mark Edwards has his mojo back! Keep Her Secret is a definite 5 star read. From the opening of the book which takes place in scenic Iceland before returning to England , the book draws the reader in with a number of twists. The character development is excellent and I became invested in the outcome of each character.
The pacing of the book was steady, therefore the reader wants to see what happens next. There are more mature themes in this book than in Mark's more recent books but they make sense within the context of the story.
The final quarter of the book is definitely a page turner until the outcome is revealed. The ending does leave a possibility of a sequel which I will gladly sign up for!
Well done Mark!
Thank you Amazon, thank you Mark, thank you Netgalley for this ARC.
I absolutely devoured this book, and couldn't put it down. To be honest I wasn't sure at first but the more I read the more I wanted to read. This was a great book, with a different storyline and really good characters - and a twist which I did see coming but not quite as it did.
I would say that the ending was or was it not a surprise and does this leave the book open for a follow up? No spoilers from me.
Please keep writing Mark I love your books and you are definitely in my top 10 authors list.
Another excellent read from Mark Edwards, his books just keep getting better and better. Fantastic storyline, great characters, had me gripped from the first page.
Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of ‘Keep Her Secret’ by Mark Edwards in return for my honest review.
This had me hooked from the start as with all Mark Edwards books you know once you start you’re going to be in for a very late night and this one is no exception, lots of twists and turns to keep you reading. I highly recommend reading this and any of Mark Edwards books you won’t be disappointed.
Ah, this will be added to my favorites list with The Magpies, Here to Stay, and Because She Loves Me. I'm so happy Mark returned his setting to the UK. I enjoy his books set there so much more.
From the minute I started reading about Helena, Lee, and Matthew I knew we were in for a good twist and I was not disappointed.
Roller coaster of a ride with one event leading to another. As each event gets more and more out of control, you find yourself caught in a reader tornado until it drops you at the end with your mouth hanging open.
Spot on characters. In order to make this story work, the author needed to make the characters sympathetic but capable. He did exactly that with Helena and Matthew, the leads in this story. The supporting characters are just as interesting and lend a great voice to the story. There are limited characters in the book which makes it easy to follow and connect too.
An outstanding plot draws the reader into it’s web of deceit and doesn’t let you go. As the author keeps the suspense at high volume from page one to the final page, several twists and turns keeps the reader waiting with bated breath to get to the end.
The author’s writing style connects the reader to the characters and the story in an exciting and enjoyable way. The story is easy to read and follow and has a great flow to keep the reader quickly moving page after page.

Mark Edwards books were always gripping and he was one of my favourite authors of the psychological thriller genre but this one and the last one he wrote I just cannot get into. I find they take a long time to go anywhere and to get into the story. I found the last 2 books as if he had gone towards a supernatural element. Sorry just not for me but I would read more of his books.
College sweethearts Matthew and Helena rekindle their romance. after being apart for 20 years. The story starts off with the two on a beautiful hiking trip with others in Ireland. The two are enamored with the beautiful views and thrilling hike. Helena feels like she is on top of the world and wants to share this with her Instagram followers and friends, but one misstep leads Helena hanging for her life. Terrified she this may be her last moments she confesses a bone-chilling secret to Matthew and the this is where the story begins. From there we are on a constant, shocking and thrilling ride!
I absolutely love this book! I simply could not put it down! It was amazingly brilliant and very original and heart pounding! It had me at mountains and falling from clips which is so realistic with so many people these days taking daredevil Instagram pics. This concept would have been enough on its own, but the author went further, giving us twist after twist. Many times, I was left holding with my mouth hanging open and rereading to make sure what I thought I read was real. I tried to make sure my eyes were not deceiving me, it was incredible! and the ending, well it was just brilliant! Brilliant I tell you!
The book is a quick paced read. It starts of fast and doesn't stop until the end! It is one of the best books I have read this year and one of my favorite books of all times! It was so good that I had to read more books by this author. I have just finished The House Guest by this author, and I am looking forward to my next read, which of course is another book by him. He is an amazing writer and author!
Big thanks to Netgalley for introducing me to this incredible writer! Thank you to Mark Edwards for allowing me to read this masterpiece for an honest review..
Thanx to netgalley and amazon publishing for letting me review an early copy of this title.
After 20 years apart college sweethearts matthew and helena get back together after a chance meeting.. They take a trip to iceland, during a mountain hike helena is left in fear for her life when she goes over the cliff edge and is barely hanging on. Was she pushed? Helena confesses to matthew about something she has done in the past, why did she do it? What could it be? When they return to england matthew wasnt the only person to over hear helenas shocking confession and they are willing to make her pay. Does matthew go to the police or will he protect his girlfriends secret? I really enjoyed this book, twists throughout. Highley recommend
Mark Edwards does it again.
An original plot which twists and turns, believable real characters and has me shouting OMG noooooooo at the characters quite a few times.
Fast paced and gripping and had me on the edge of my seat
Great read
We’ve all had to keep a secret from time to time. Not usually a problem, right? Well, that’s where Mark Edwards skillfully takes you on an unusual and unpredictable journey. From the beautiful scenery of Iceland to the underground tunnels in Brighton, the story of lies, coverups, and crimes unfolds. What we come away with after reading this book is the knowledge of how closely interwoven each of our decisions can be, and how those decisions can affect the lives of those around us – even those we may not have known at the time.
