A Fatal Affair is an enjoyable thriller with plenty of twists, but not my favorite by this author - and I love A.R. Torre! While there was enough suspense and character background to keep me invested, the story overall was interesting but not super memorable.
As with all A.R. Torre books I could not put this book down! It kept me engaged and I needed to read it in one sitting. Torre has become one of my favorite authors and I look forward to reading more from her
A whole lot of nothing, if I had to sum up this book.
Don't get me wrong, it's an entertaining page-turner and highly readable. I also liked the cast. But there wasn't much mystery or tension, and felt more like I (and the characters) were just going through the motions. It didn't even feel like the police were doing much work lol???
Not only was the twist super predictable, everything just felt very contrived and too neatly wrapped in a bow. Yet I loved the ending, so there's that.
Book #67: A Fatal Affair by A. R. Torre 🎭🎭🎭🎭
I would like to thank NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for providing me with an advance e-galley of this book in exchange for an honest review. Look for it now in your local and online bookstores and libraries.
“The oldest love affair in Hollywood is that of an actor with themself. It’s not so much that they love who they are—but they fall for that image on the screen. They fall for the way that the public looks at them. They fall for the story that they’re telling. But the problem is, that story is a lie. The affair is a farce.”
— A. R. Torre, A Fatal Affair
Many thanks to Netgalley for this arc. I received this book in exchange for my honest review. My thoughts are entirely my own.
In this story we are following multiple points to view and instead of actual names they have: the leading lady, the child, the actor, and so on. Trent Iverson and a mysterious woman are found murdered in his brother’s guesthouse. Trent’s brother Hugh and his fiancé Nora try and figure out what to do about the police and Hugh asks Nora what type of man they want to see so that he can transform into that person. Meanwhile Kyle whose wife and son are on a trip to Disney through a Make A Wish foundation. Kyle can’t get in touch with her and begins to investigate because of how weird it is that he hasn’t heard from her. Kyle discovers a Facebook group for moms who have children with Munchausen syndrome and it suddenly gets hijacked and the person responsible makes deadly demands. Also tapes are found where there are women being tortured to death. This book has twists and turns throughout it, it was enjoyable but not something I would read again.
A thriller that did what it should do. Entertain! I really enjoyed this one because the writing is on par!
Thank you to Netgalley, publisher and author for my advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.
It took me a while to get into this story, but once I figured out the who's who I enjoyed the story. It was twisty and well paced. The characters were well fleshed out and kept me fully engaged.
Was kind confused with the characters at the beginning of the book but once you figure out who is who it’s impossible to put down. Really enjoyed it!
A Fatal Affair is an interesting twist of a tale, if it is true that genetically it is impossible to tell identical twins apart (I slept through that class in High School Biology - you are probably thinking "What part of identical does she not understand?"). I mean from after birth there must be at the very least other means to do so if not genetically...oh, yeah, that's maybe how they solved the case.
Famous Hollywood childhood stars grow up to be famous Hollywood grown-up stars. One is successful and the other is now a washed-up bad boy. One turns up dead and the rush is on for the detectives to solve the murder, and a few others along the way, before the dog and pony media show commences.
There is a creepy underlying connection between the murders, and perhaps some (maybe all) of the victims deserved their fate. There is definitely a creepy connection between the twins and the motivation behind the murders - the latter of which I would never have guessed.
The police procedural aspects of the investigation were interesting for this layman. Aside from the police and the innocent kidnap victim, none of the other characters were particularly likeable.
Thank you NetGalley and Thomas and Mercer for a copy for my review. I loved it and I love Torre (most of the time) and read anything by this author that comes my way!
A Fattal Affair" by A. R. Torre is a gripping tale set in the glitzy world of Hollywood, where secrets, lies, and murder lurk behind the glamour. Actress Nora Kemp finds herself entangled in a dangerous web of love and betrayal between two brothers, Hugh and Trent Iverson. When Trent and another woman are found dead on the Iversons' property, suspicions arise, and an investigation uncovers dark truths hidden beneath the surface. As two LA detectives delve deeper into the mystery, they navigate through a maze of deception and danger, unraveling the tangled threads of the case. Torre skillfully crafts a suspenseful narrative that keeps readers on the edge of their seats, blending elements of romance, mystery, and intrigue. "A Fattal Affair" is a riveting read that explores the sinister underbelly of fame and fortune in the City of Angels, where the line between truth and illusion is dangerously thin
I love a good mystery especially if celebrities are involved, but this was not it for. I enjoyed the short chapters, but too many povs which made it hard to truly understand the characters and plot. Also as readers have mentioned there are twist like any good mystery, but couple of the are right in your face, so that’s disappointing.

Perfect light suspenseful book - great read!
This book started off so strong for me & then mostly flopped. I rounded up because it held my attention until the end.
Thank you Net Galley & to the publisher for this ARC in exchange for my honest review.
A Hollywood heartthrob is found dead inside his identical twin brother’s guesthouse with an unknown female that has been stabbed to death. Investigators think it was a murder suicide, but the evidence points to something more sinister.
I love that the storyline kept us guessing until the very end with a movie star backstory and juicy plot twists. The multiple POV’s and short chapters had me flying through this book, and just when I thought I had it all figured out, a new piece of evidence and a bombshell was revealed. (Okay, I kind of guessed the ending) but I also feel like there were a few loose ends in the investigation that left me with lots of questions.
This was my first book by A.R. Torre, but won’t be my last! I can’t wait to read her newest one, The Last Party.
I've officially read enough A.R. Torre books to say I am a hugeee fan! I loved this mystery. Kept me on my toes and I couldn't put it down. 5 stars!!
Nora is involved with a set of twins - Hugh, the mega movie star and her fiancé, and Trent, the bad boy. When Trent is found dead with an unknown woman on Nora and Hugh's property, the fiancé's are thrown even further into the spotlight. A group of LA detectives are assigned to the case. They soon realize that they are dealing with a serial killer. Dealing with highly skilled actors makes it ever more challenging to determine who is telling the truth...
There are many different POVs. This makes things a little challenging to keep track of, but also leads to a bit of a messy book. I preferred certain POVs over others. And some just simply were not flushed out enough. However, I did like the short chapters. Each chapter ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, so I couldn't wait until I reached that POV again.
I am a big fan of A.R. Torre's books, but this is not her best. The twists were not very surprising. Overall, this book is chaotic and superficial. I will continue to read Torre's books, as this seems to be just a one off.
Thank you Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for the copy in exchange for an honest review.
This book just wasn’t for me. I felt like the pacing was a little too slow and I never found myself eager to pick the book back up. It wasn’t the writing that I didn’t care for but the development of the story.
Quick and fun. More mystery than thriller, but enjoyable never the less. Thanks NetGalley for the ARC!!
Womp womp. I typically LOVE her books yet but this felt so popcorn generic thriller to me. It was fine...it wasn't bad, but it wasn't special. Definitely not her best work and I would skip and read literally any of her other books for a more satisfying unique read!
I think I’m just not a fan of A.R. Torre! I was excited to read this one but unfortunately, I just did not find it enjoyable whatsoever. However, I’m grateful for the opportunity! Many thanks to the publisher :)
