This was such a fantastic read! I love A.R. Torre's writing, the mysteries are so great and twisty, and this book fits right in! I loved the way that this was told, the chapter named by who was narrating it, the leading lady, the detective, the mother, as we learned what was going on!
We knew that the characters were keeping secrets, they would allude to something, either aloud or in their thoughts, but not outright say it. Watching as the scene was set with the murder, and the subsequent investigation, learning more about the Iverson's lives, finding out what happened, was fantastic to read!
Like the synopsis says, there's how this connects to the mother and son, who are there because the son was on a Make-a-Wish-like trip. We slowly learn through the mother's narration, and as the investigation goes on. Yeah, there are some really awful people in this world, and there are people who do bad things.
That ending though? There were some really stunning twists, one in particular that I loved the most, that really blew my mind! It was shocking and it made sense, and helped bring the whole book together! It was so great to read!
Loved reading this book and I can't wait to read more by A.R. Torre!
Nora Kemp wants the Hollywood life. The money, the fame, the love story. Enter the Iverson Brothers. Trent and Hugh Iverson offer her very different things. Hugh is considered royalty in Hollywood. Trent labeled as the drug addicted rebel. When a woman and Trent are found dead in a guesthouse on Hugh's property, what lies will bring Nora's world crashing down? Detectives are racing against the Hollywood clock to find what happened in the guesthouse before the court of public opinion takes over. How far is too far to protect the perfect poised love story?
Thank you Netgalley for the advanced copy. A.J. Torre was on the something with identical twins, so much doubt and determination to find the truth.
Let's just say A.R. Torre never disappoints, EVER! This book was great, exactly what I needed to get out of my reading slump.
When I saw AR Torre had a new book coming out I jumped at the opportunity to read it but sadly it was not like her previous book I read by her. It was a slow burn with lots of characters to keep track of. It took me a week and a half to get through because I just wasn’t that into reading it. I’m glad I finished it because the ending was unexpected and gave a nice red bow on top.
If you are looking for a mixture of Hollywood drama and a police procedural this book would be perfect for you.
***** Many thanks to Thomas and Mercer, AR Torre, and NetGalley for the gifted copy as it was provided to me in turn for my honest opinion.
Thanks to NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer and A.R. Torre. Now, this book was not what I was expecting Ms. Torre!! I was expecting it to be a bit crazy and fun but this was over the top for me. This was nothing like her previous book in the way of the writing style but it still contained short chapters, dual povs and interesting read. This book was so over the top for me. It was crazy and just fun. If you go into this expecting a regular, Torre book of her recent style, this is not it. But if you want to look for fun and crazy, here you are! I still give it a 3.5
Compelling and surprising, A Fatal Affair is a 5-star who-done-it that left me hungry for each oncoming chapter. Typically, I have a good idea of the resolution of the plot midway through a thriller, but A R Torre kept me on my toes until the very end. I couldn't put it down and stayed up way past my bedtime to finish it in one sitting. Satisfying and delightful, this book had more twists and turns than the PCH.
I have really enjoyed all the A.R. Torre books I've read, so I was super excited to see her newest book posted on NetGalley! The cover and description really drew me in, too, as if I needed any other reason to read it! Sadly, I waited a bit too long to give this book justice with a full review (too many books in between), but I thoroughly enjoyed it and would highly recommend to her fans. 4 stars!
Thanks so much to NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer, and A.R. Torre for this arc!
This book is like getting a ride in a Ferrari on a race track and enjoying every second. You kind of know what’s going to happen but every second is an exhilarating experience.
The pace of the book is fast. Right away, the reader learns that there’s been a murder in a Beverly Hills mansion of an identical twin and a woman. The story takes off from there with clues throughout.
It’s an art for an author to capture the reader’s attention at full speed all the way through. For me, the plot was predictable with some holes and a few extra characters that could have been left out but – it got my attention. And sometimes that’s the thrill that makes you smile at the end.
My thanks to Alessandra Torre, Thomas & Mercer and NetGalley for allowing me to read this advanced copy with an expected release date of June 20, 2023.
This is the latest thriller from A. R. Torre.
This one follows the story of a murder/suicide in a Hollywood mansion. The narrative is told from all different characters perspective included the celebrity owners of the house, a hostage, a husband and the police investigating the report. At first it is definitely a bit of work to keep on top of who is who! The main focus is the murder and suicide that have taken place however as the story unfolds it becomes clear that it is much more convoluted than it first seemed.
I was wondering when the twist was going to come, if it was going to come and eventually resigned myself to not having a twist. I was wrong. Or I was right I guess since I called it at the start but when the twist was actually revealed I was very definitely shook shook shook. I think it was more the reveal than the twist but it was astounding to me at the time anyway! It elevated this one from a 3 to a 4 star read for me.
A. R. Torre also writes as Alessandra Torre. If you enjoyed the twist in the one and enjoy romance novels have a look at Undertow for a semi-similar twist.
HOLY CRAP!!!!! Thank you, NetGalley, for allowing me early access A Fatal Affair!
This is my first book by this author and since reading, I have holds on numerous other books by Torre. While I do venture to different genres, thriller and mystery books are always at the top of my list of current reads and Torre did not disappoint! I adored the different POVS in this story and each character was memorable and played an important part in the closing chapters. Being an avid thriller reader, I find other books where the twists were not as surprising or I saw it coming from early on, but not with Torre! 100% recommend and will be counting down the days for another Torre release!
I’ve read several A.R. Torre novels before and was excited to get my hands on this new one! Unfortunately, I did not like the way it was written. The chapters were super short and flipped between multiple characters. There were so many flip flops that I couldn’t remember what was going on, it was too confusing. By the time the big reveal came, I was just happy for it to be over. Not my favorite by this author.

A.R. Torre is a pseudonym of [author, Alessandra Torre and is her dark alter ego. While Alessandra writes spicy romances, A.R. focuses on twisted stories filled with secrets, suspense, drama, and danger.
This is my first author, A. R. Torre] novel and I am totally surprised since I am a big dark twisty fan!
Living in the LA area, Hollywood is often in the news but I have to admit I was drawn to this story because of it!
The story is told from the POV of the victim, the detectives, the suspects - and several more!
Leading Lady Nora Kemp loves two men. She is engaged and living with Oscar winner, Hugh Iverson, while a having an affair with Trent his twin brother.
Story starts when Trent and an unidentified woman are found dead in the Beverly Hills guest home of Hugh and Nora. Trent has his own mansion but often drops in unannounced.
Detectives label the high profile case murder-suicide.
We also learn about Kerry, Kyle in Wisconsin, who have a six year old son Miles. Young Miles has brain cancer and recently won a “Make a Wish” trip to Disneyland.
Present day Hollywood, detectives are alerted to a missing mother and her six-year-old cancer patient son.
Hmmm are these cases connected?
The twins were once child stars in the religious show "Story Farm"; Hugh the good guy and Trent the evil twin.
Might that play into who they are now?
Story kept me guessing! The twist certainly had my head spinning!
Want to thank NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for granted me this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for June 20, 2023
I’ve read nearly all of this author’s works. Although this novel is not typical of her usual style and use of shorter chapters, the storyline was great and kept me engaged.
I loved AR Torres previous books and this one fits the bill. Twisty turny and kept me turning the pages
A Fatal Affair by A. R. Torre is a compulsively readable novel.
This is fast moving, well plotted and nicely paced story.
An engaging page-turner was filled with secrets, suspense and a whole lot of lying.
Twisted, fun and entertaining. I am an major fan of this author!
And this book did not disappoint.
"I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own."
Thank You NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for your generosity and gifting me a copy of this amazing eARC!
This one was a slow start for me, but when it picked up, I enjoyed it! Character development was solid & the storyline interesting. I really enjoy A.R. Torre books & this one is another good one to add to the lineup!
Thanks NetGalley, author and publisher for allowing me to read early!
I'm a recent AR Torre fan so was delighted to get this ARC from @netgalley. A quick read set in Hollywood with a golden power couple. Enter a sick child with a gifted trip to Disneyland. The two stories intertwine in a way you may not see coming...did I mention there were twins? Looking forward to the next book as they are consistently good!
WOW! This is the third book I have read of A.R. Torre. This was a fast paced book with short chapters. I absolutely love when you can pick up a book and just fly through it. I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read more of her books.
Thank you NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for allowing me to read this ARC in advance for my honest opinion.
A thriller set in Hollywood glamor??? I love it! I could not put this novel down. I am obsessed and will be recommending to all of my friends, as well as purchasing a physical copy for my library.
I am getting tired of psychological thrillers and avoided reading this book. However, I read some reviews which mentioned that this is more of a crime thriller. So I picked this up and am glad that it is mostly a detective fiction. I liked the detectives (Kevin, Farah) and the desk-bound detective (Farah's daughter) who sifts through data mines to come up the connection. The multiple POVs (thankfully not in first person) kept be interested throughout.
Though the twists were not really surprising.
The ending did not fit my ideal ending of a detective fiction where all the culprits are punished. Hence taking away 1 *.
Wee -complaints
I was stumped by the usage of some words like 'Spendy'.
The detective mentions that her nieces are identical twins, and she is asked if they are boys or girls. Is 'niece' now gender-neutral?
I think there would come a time when everyone starts objecting to usage of gender -specific nouns/ pronouns.
Thanks to NetGalley, the Publisher and the Author for the ARC
