4 stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A.R. Torre does it again!
Whenever I see a new Torre book I know what to expect: a superb story filled with lots of twists and surprises. This one definitely kept me guessing. Just when I thought I’d figured it out it took a turn in another direction.
These are some pretty terrible characters - narcissistic Hollywood stars who are liars and cheaters. Nobody is trustworthy or likable. Fast paced, alternating POVs and short chapters are everything I look for in a book.
Highly recommend for Torre fans or anyone looking for a fun thriller!
Thank you to NetGalley, Thomas & Mercer and A.R. Torre for my advanced copy to read and review.
This was a bit hard to follow due to pacing issues but overall I would recommend it to thriller lovers looking for a quick twist.
A.R. Torre has become my knee must read author.I really enjoyed this book. The storyline and the twist and turns kept me hooked. Highly recommend!
A celebrity family, murder, family secrets abound. A book that kept me guessing right up until the final twist!
I always enjoy AR Torre - she is one of my favorites. But this one was a bit slower than her usual and seemed to be more romance than thriller for me. I'll definitely gobble up her next book like always, no doubt; but this one was sadly a little disappointing for me.
Stars. Lovers. Liars. Killers. This is Hollywood, and everyone has a part to play in a shocking novel of suspense by New York Times bestselling author A. R. Torre.
Actress Nora Kemp loves two men. One is Hugh Iverson, a philanthropic movie star who gives Nora security and respectability. The other is Hugh’s twin brother, Trent, a Hollywood bad boy who brings out Nora’s wild side. When Trent and an unidentified woman are found dead on the Iversons’ Beverly Hills property, more than Nora’s and Hugh’s reputations are at stake.
An investigation suggests murder-suicide. But there’s more to the crime than first meets the eye: suspicions of a serial killer with a bizarre motive, Hugh’s unnerved and cautious staff, and a missing mother and son. As two LA detectives sift through the deceptions of the innocent and the guilty—some living and some dead—solving the case becomes a cunning cat-and-mouse game.
Because in a city of illusions, the truth—no matter how dangerous—is so easy to hide.

Let me start this review off by saying that I've LOVED all the other books by AR Torre that I've read. This one... just... missed the mark unfortunately.
There were SO many different POV's and usually I don't mind that, but some of the POV's I really didn't think were necessary and it just got a little confusing after awhile.
The ending felt rushed, and unbelievable.
I also had guessed the major plot twist pretty early on, and not much else surprised me throughout.
Unfortunately, not my favorite by AR Torre, but I will definitely pick up her next one.
A Fatal Affair written by A.R. Torre wasn't her best book in my opinion, but I was still shell shocked. I wasn't surprised by the ending, it was kind of a given, but some parts in the ending were definitely a surprise. In the beginning, with all the different POV's, it was a little bit confusing for me, but as I kept reading and understanding the story, the POV's definitely made sense to me. I love a good thriller that messes with your head, but unfortunately this one didn't do it for me, don't get me wrong, it was still an enjoyable book, but it didn't make me crazy the way other A.R. Torre books have. I wouldn't say the ending had some loose ends, but I definitely wanted more from the other characters. What I really loved about this book was the short chapters, it kept the story moving fast, it never once left me feeling bored, but it kind of left me with some unanswered questions. 🌟WE LOVE A SHORT CHAPTERS QUEEN🌟. Another thing I loved about this book is that gorgeous cover. If you love police procedurals, look no further than A Fatal Affair by A.R. Torre. I will say, I love A.R. Torre's psychological thrillers, but with this police procedural one, it felt like A.R. Torre was trying a little too hard to make this book everything.
THANK YOU TO NETGALLEY AND THOMAS & MERCER FOR AN ARC OF THIS BOOK IN EXCHANGE FOR AN HONEST REVIEW!!!!!
Nora Kemp is an actress who loves two men, the only downside? THEY ARE TWINS. But that doesn't stop Nora from loving both of them. Hugh Iverson, is a movie star that gives Nora respectability and makes her feel safe. Trent Iverson, is a Hollywood bad boy who has a past. Trent and Hugh aren't quite the same set of twins. Hugh is successful, whereas Trent has a past of being in rehab and having a drinking/drug addiction. Trent always brought out Nora's wild side, so why would she be in love with Hugh Iverson as well? Because Hugh has money and can help Nora's acting career take off. When Trent and an unidentified woman are found dead on the Iverson's Beverly Hills property, more than Nora and Hugh's reputations are at stake. When two detectives arrive on scene, an investigation suggests it's a murder suicide, but as the investigation is on going, there's more to the crime than firsts meets the eye. Nora and Hugh are cooperating with the detectives, but trying not to give out too much information that can destroy their career. In this book, we learn about Nora's past and who she really is.
As two LA detectives sift through interviews with the staff at the Iverson's property, solving the case becomes a game of cat and mouse, because some people are talking and others aren't giving up any information. Hugh is getting agitated with the questioning, and Nora is now pregnant. This murder suicide came as a surprise, but Nora isn't really showing any emotions at all. Hugh is trying to hide things that could possibly blow up this whole investigation. As Nora and Hugh's reputations being at stake, more truths could come out about this couple, such as Nora being in love with the twins because the public doesn't know about it. Why would a mom be dead and her son still missing? Because Hugh and Trent are involved in some kind of charity where they make dreams come true for children that are sick. My heart instantly went out for that little boy and his father. My heart went out to Hugh and Nora, but as the truth started to emerge, I kind of had to change my line of thinking. Who was telling the truth? Was Trent in the wrong? Or was Hugh in the wrong? Read A Fatal Affair to find out.
This was crazy?!? I couldn’t put it down I finished it in one day! I loved how short the chapters were, always ending on a cliff hanger. Each chapter rotated perspectives between several different characters and at first it felt like a lot, but I think it made the story even more addicting reading each character’s thoughts/experience. I really enjoyed the detectives and I’d love to read more books about them solving other cases.
I have long been a fan of AR Torre and her popcorn thrillers - nothing like a fast paced, short chapter thriller to keep me turning this pages. While this wasn't my favorite of hers, I still enjoyed it.
3.5 Stars
I couldn't put this down!!! So good and so well written. I loved how it came together like a play and left me guessing until the very last page. The whole thing was just so much fun and hurt my brain in a good way at the same time! The characters all had a lot of dimension and were easy to picture too!
Thank you netgalley for the earc in exchange for an honest review.
This read almost exactly like watching a juicy and dramatic soap opera style show and I mean that in the best way. It’s told via a bunch of different perspectives and while at first glance I thought maybe there were too many, once I settled into the story it actually worked well. There are lots of chapters from one of the detectives working the case so it gave it a strong police procedural feel, so keep that in mind whether you like that style or not. I enjoy it and love the feeling of solving a case alongside a detective so again, that aspect worked for me. There were some really fun twists too, yes they were over the top and you may have to stretch your beliefs a little but they were entertaining. This would be a really fun poolside read, it’s scandalous and fast paced.
This was a quick read. I liked the short chapters that kept me wanting to turn the page. I liked all the different perspectives it was told from. Some of it was a little far fetched but I still enjoyed it.
First of all, I want to thank Thomas & Mercer for this gifted copy on NetGalley! It took me awhile to read this one as I tried a couple of times and couldn’t get into it. Overall, I’m giving this 2.5 ⭐️, rounded to 2 on Goodreads because I just thought the book was a bit bland. I did it as a mixed read and audio and will tell you it was extremely difficult to keep track of who everyone was, as there were 10,000 characters! I felt the book was a bit rushed especially at the end and didn’t fully come to a fully thought out plot. As a reader, I couldn’t truly tell who the “main character” was and who I should been focusing on. A little let down but it was an easy read and I got through it in two days.
Review of A Fatal Affair by A.R. Torre
Thank you to @netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this one. I enjoyed buddy reading it with my friends @itsallaboutthethrill and @webreakforbooks. This was actually my first book by this author, but it certainly won’t be my last. I have a few of the back list books and I can’t wait to get to them. Overall, I really enjoyed this book. They were elements of it that I thought were extremely predictable and somewhat unbelievable. But it did add to the fun and some aspects of the book I didn’t see coming. I was really fascinated by one particular aspect, but I’m not going to say it for spoiler reasons. I liked the two storylines, and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how they connected until close to the end of the book. The book was fairly well paced, and I enjoyed the writing style of the author.

An excellent mystery with great atmosphere- the seedy but glamorous Hollywood setting made for a worthy backdrop to this twisty story. Lots of twists and changing perspectives will keep readers on their toes!
This one has high entertainment value. There are movie stars and affairs, questionable parents and missing children. The twists kept me hooked. But the ending was a bit predictable and left a few loose ends I wish we'd had answers for.
The audio book was well done. I really liked the narrator.
A huge thank you to the author and publisher for providing an e-ARC via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion regarding the book.
3.5 stars!
A Fatal Affair is a gripping and suspenseful novel that delves into the world of a murder-suicide investigation. The story revolves around the death of Trent Iverson, whose body is found next to an unidentified woman in his twin's guesthouse. It appears that Trent killed the woman, and then committed suicide. However, the police are not convinced that this is the whole story. What's the truth?
The novel is a fast-paced page-turner that kept me hooked from start to finish. The author did a good job of creating a sense of suspense and mystery, I couldn't stop reading because I had to know what was going to happen!
Although the novel is well written overall, there are a few things that didn't convince me. For example, the author could have explored some aspects of the story further. Also, the novel lacks some depth in certain areas.
Overall, A Fatal Affair is a well-written and suspenseful novel that is sure to keep you entertained, making it the perfect beach read.
This was an interesting story that I had a hard time stopping. However, the end left some things in limbo and I questioned a few of the conclusions. All in all it was a good read. I thought the writing was engaging and I was totally sucked in.
My first A.R. Torre novel and I loved it. This was a gripping, quick, easy read that I found unputdownable. Told in multiple POVs, this story kept me intrigued from beginning until the end. I don’t want to give away too many spoilers, but I definitely recommend reading this book.
I haven’t met a book yet by this author that has disappointed me and this one was yet another to add to my recommend list.
