I thought I had the ending figured out, but boy was I wrong! This book was a fast paced thrill ride that I thoroughly enjoyed. It will definitely keep your interest.
Thank you NetGalley, the author and publisher for sending me an advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.
This book was really good. I read it in one sitting. Short chapters, multiple POV's and and these twists I did not see coming even though I'm well aquianted with the world of mysteries and thrillers. The plot includes Hollywood's finest movie stars, twins, secrets and two bodies. It's fast paced and thrilling with mostly unlikable characters, although I actually did like the detectives Farah and Kevin, they were a great duo.
There was a time-line issue that bothered me and the ending was unsatisfactory. All in all I really enjoyed reading this book.
This was a good read! The characters were developed nicely and it was easy to keep up with all of the twists and turns that made it a good book!
Hollywood Lies and Kooky Plotlines
2.5 stars
A Fatal Affair is about a murder connected to Hollywood superstars, a missing child, and a web of lies nearly impossible to decipher.
When Hollywood bad boy Trent Iverson is found shot to death in his equally famous twin brother’s guest house, the cops, the media, and his twin are all equally invested in discovering what led to his death. Even more intriguing is the woman found on the scene stabbed to death.
There are many plotlines, but all are connected. They include the stories of Kerry Pepper, her son, Miles, and her husband Kyle. There are also those related to the main detective on the case. Perhaps the most interesting story belongs to the twins and the woman they were in love with, leading lady Nora Kemp.
There are many POVs-- almost too many to keep track of. I couldn’t connect with any of the characters because there were so many of them. More and more were added as the book progressed. None were fleshed out, and they felt like parodies of the roles they were assigned, e.g., “the Leading Lady,” “The Detective,” “The Leading Man, '' and so on. I found some perspectives more interesting than others, especially the twins, and others superfluous.
The chapters are short and quickly switch perspectives, constantly taking the plot in new directions--the more revealed, the crazier it gets.
To enjoy this book, approach it with fun in mind. It is twisty and easy to read, but the plot is convoluted and over the top--it is not Torre's best work. At the same time, it is entertaining and good mindless reading.
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer in exchange for an honest review.
This book was better than I somehow thought it would be. It was so fast paced, intriguing, and dramatic. Personally, I’ve never read a book with this same premise, even though I know there are some out there. Because of that, it had me more hooked to the story and invested in the lives of these famous characters. The twist was pretty good as well! I found myself gasping at some of the parts. When you read books about “celebrities,” you pretty much come to the conclusion that the characters aren’t always likable, but I loved the multiple POV and learning the back stories behind each character leading up to the big twist. It’s fun to read the chaos!
A huge thank you to Thomas & Mercer for this E-ARC in exchange for my honest review! Go snag a copy of this one on June 19!!
Sure, you may be rich and famous but that doesn’t make you immune to murder!
Hugh and Nora have it all. Wealth and fame beyond their wildest dreams! Adored by their multitudes of fans as Hollywood’s favorite couple.
Hugh has a twin brother Trent, but their similarity ends with looking alike. Polar opposites in fact. Trent is the wild child to Hugh’s straight-lace lifestyle. And presently Trent is in a situation that Hugh can’t get him out of. He’s just been discovered dead (nope, can’t fix that!) on the property along with a woman no one can identify.
What exactly happened here in the star-studded Hollywood Hills? But equally important, will this effect Hugh and Nora’s star status?
A fast, fun thriller with some great twists that surprised me along the way!
I always enjoy reading this author and this latest was no exception!
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Merce
Torre knows how to deliver a fun, binge-worthy read! Her books deserve to be far more hyped than they are because I’ve enjoyed every single one and they’re so easy to read in one sitting. A Fatal Affair combines so many things I love: a Hollywood murder mystery, multiple POVs, short chapters, and a fast pace. At first the frequent POV changes were a bit jarring but they really did keep you guessing. Overall, I absolutely recommend this one if you love mystery thrillers.
OH MY GOSH!!! Go read this book now!!!!! I can’t even talk about it if I dont want to give everything away!!!! This author is BRILLIANT!!
One of Hollywood's bad boys has committed a murder/suicide, and his golden boy brother, his brother's Hollywood starlet fiancé, the husband of the female victim, and some seasoned detectives are left in the aftermath of the crime. Though, the crime may not be exactly what it seems. This book is an incredibly quick read for a couple of reasons:
1. The chapters are short (which is something I truly appreciate when it comes to a good domestic thriller). Better yet, they are told from many, varied perspectives.
2. The twists and turns are absurd (in the most positive way possible)
Though the entire story required quite a bit of suspension of disbelief, I absolutely inhaled it. I'd love to tell prospective readers more, but I feel like almost any details I'd include could be possible spoilers. I highly recommend this for any reader who is looking for a whole lot of drama packed in just over 300 pages.
*A special thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for an advanced readers copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.*
My first by A.R.Torre and I gotta say I had a lot of fun reading it. A Hollywood murder mystery. Actress Nora Kemp is in love with both Hugh and Trent Iverson, two other Hollywood actors. Trent and a mysterious woman end up dead on the Iverson property. Now Nora and Hugh's reputation are on the line.
Two LA detectives must must dig through all the deception and figure out what exactly happened, and who is guilty, if anyone is! This was a cat and mouse type thriller. I feel there was a little predictability, but I still enjoyed it.
Out June 20.
Thank you the publisher and netgalley for the gifted copy. All opinions are my own. My review will be posted on Instagram, Bookbub, Goodreads and Amazon once it publishes.
This is an entertaining book, but the story is jumping around a lot, and the plot is based on some nonsense. The characters are very good, however, and the writing itself as well.
"A Fatal Affair" by A. R. Torre is a suspenseful thriller that keeps readers engaged with its intriguing premise and well-crafted suspense. While the book has its strengths, there are certain aspects that prevent it from reaching its full potential, resulting in an average liking.
One of the highlights of the novel is its gripping storyline. Torre sets the stage for a thrilling affair filled with secrets, betrayals, and unexpected twists. The premise draws readers in and creates a sense of anticipation as they follow the main character's journey through a dangerous web of deceit and obsession.
The pacing of the book is generally well-maintained, with tense moments and revelations that propel the narrative forward. Torre's ability to build suspense and create a sense of unease is commendable, keeping readers on their toes throughout the story.
However, one of the drawbacks of "A Fatal Affair" lies in the character development. While the main character is initially intriguing, there is a lack of depth and emotional resonance that prevents readers from fully connecting with her. The supporting characters, too, could have been more fleshed out, as their actions sometimes feel predictable and lacking in complexity.
Additionally, certain plot elements and twists feel contrived and strain the suspension of disbelief. Some of the character motivations and actions seem inconsistent or forced, which can be a bit distracting for readers who prefer a more organic and believable narrative.
The writing style in "A Fatal Affair" is generally solid, allowing for a smooth reading experience. However, there are moments when the prose feels overly simplistic, lacking the depth and nuance that could have elevated the story to a higher level. This occasionally affects the immersion and emotional impact of certain scenes.
In conclusion, "A Fatal Affair" offers a compelling premise and a decent level of suspense that keeps readers engaged. While it falls short in terms of character development and some plot elements feel contrived, it still manages to provide an entertaining reading experience for fans of the genre. With stronger characterizations and a more refined writing style, the book could have reached greater heights. As it stands, it's an average thriller that provides a decent dose of suspense but fails to leave a lasting impression.
This book had so much going on I couldn't put it down! So many twists and very satisfying ending are what I love to get in a book and "A Fatal Affair" had it all. Are some parts of this book a little far fetched, sure, but it made for an awesome, very entertaining read. I am a big fan of A.R. Torre and this book just reaffirmed what a great writer she is!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book in advance of publication.

I'll start off with saying I love A. R. Torre a.k.a. Alessandra Torre. She's a wonderful writer and I've read many of her books.
Although, this book wasn't twisty or shocking in the end, it was still completely engaging. I couldn't stop reading, because every time I read a chapter, I was left wondering what in the world is going on. I loved the short chapters and the multiple POVs was done very well. It moved the story along at a face pace.
If you love Hollywood celebrity scandal, this is the story for you!
I give it a solid 4 stars!
A Fatal Affair by A. R. Torre is a fast paced and addictive story. Told from multiple perspectives: the detective, the leading lady, the husband, etc the story is a twisted story of murder, betrayal and Hollywood. Nora kemp is Hollywood’s leading lady and she loves two men, Hugh and Trent. They just both happen to be twins and Hollywood’s biggest heartthrobs. They all are hiding deadly secrets in the present and the past that two detectives are trying to sort through in order to figure out who murdered a mom on her way to Disneyland with her sick kid. Lots of twists and shocking revelations. A super fast and easy read with short chapters to keep you on edge. Unfortunately for me it was a bit too easily predicted but the writing style will have me searching out the authors pervious work for sure.
A great book from A. R. Torre. I’ve never read a book by this author before and I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed the story. The characters were well thought out and the story was well paced.
A novel of suspense about murders in Hollywood. It alternates between varying perspectives each with a character type like Detective, Leading Lady, etc. I thought that was a fun way instead of just names. The chapters were short and easy to read. However, I think there might have been two many perspectives. I think that took away from the suspense for me.
Another A.R. Torre book down.
I absolutely love this author! Although this one’s not as twisty as others I’ve read it’s still just as good!
Hugh and Trent are the faces of Hollywood. Along with their love Nora. But one day two wake up to two dead bodies and one of them Trent. The detectives set to work to try to figure out this murder/suicide scene and start to uncover some pretty dark secrets of the three Hollywood stars.
This read almost exactly like watching a juicy and dramatic soap opera style show and I mean that in the best way. Sometimes I just want brain candy and this fit the bill for my mood. It’s told via a bunch of different perspectives and while at first glance I thought maybe there were too many, once I settled into the story it actually worked well. There are lots of chapters from one of the detectives working the case so it gave it a strong police procedural feel, so keep that in mind whether you like that style or not. I enjoy it and love the feeling of solving a case alongside a detective so again, that aspect worked for me. There were some really fun twists too, yes they were over the top and you may have to stretch your beliefs a little but they were entertaining. This would be a really fun poolside read, it’s scandalous and fast paced.
