“There’s no way I can be casual about this. At all. We don’t have to rush anything, but you need to know that you’re it for me.”

I tend to usually don’t give 5 stars to novellas, but Dani @dmc_lean knocked this one out of the park! A MISSING CONNECTION gets all the stars! Beau gets his own stars too! Thank you Dani and @netgalley for my e-arc in exchange for an honest review! This one publishes March 7!

Dani write this one with such a unique concept- I totally loved it! The tension between Beau and April is 🤌🏻😘 - and they don’t even meet until the end!! I read this entirely in one sitting because I just couldn’t stop!

Novellas are short by nature, and they can usually feel like they are missing something that you would find in a regular length novel. However, this novella has it all! The tension/steam, the real life issues, sweet/tender moments, family drama, society pressures and expectations.

Also, can we take a moment to appreciate everything Beau Aaron is? Especially in a three piece suit 😍🔥

I have read and enjoyed all of Dani’s novellas in her series, but this one is by far my fav!

A unique concept that was impeccably executed, A Missing Connection proved to be an absolutely addicting novella.

Dani’s writing has grown exponentially since Midnight Repeated. The way she built these characters and the tension between them, without having them meet until the final pages, was masterful. I was physically unable to stop reading.

This was super cute and definitely my favourite of the series so far!
I love the concept of this story, of April and Beau being able to communicate when they haven’t even met. Thought this was a novella, it felt very slow burn, which I enjoyed. Overall this was a really solid read, and this series is a lot of fun!

Thanks so much for the ARC of this title! I really liked these characters, but some of the writing felt a little rushed to me. I felt like we didn't get a chance to really understand their lives outside of their relationship and their feelings directly regarding their love lives, even though family and work felt like they WANTED to be an important part of the story. I think just by nature of being a novella, there wasn't enough time to really delve into the characters' outside lives and backstories as much as this book tried to do. All in all I thought it was a super fun read and I think if we had more time with the characters and in this world as a full novel, some of my issues with it would have been cleared up.

3 stars!

The FMC, April, has an overbearing mother, declining father and has thrown herself into her work as a data analyst. I loved seeing this rep! She locks eyes through the windows with the yummy man in a suit in the office building across from hers and sees him again on the train but doesn’t introduce herself.

The MMC, Beau, is slated to take over his father’s company. It’s not his passion but he feels pressure to do as he’s expected. He finds the woman in the building over intriguing. That night, he hears a woman’s voice in his head and is able to have conversations with her.

They are both missing something in life and find it in their connection.

This was so cute (and a little spicy)!

Beau and April's story was so fun and lighthearted! I'm a sucker for cure romcoms, and I loved the telepathic twist to their love story!

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for this eARC of 'A Missing Connection' by Dani McLean.

This is my second Dani McLean ARC and since the books are such short novellas, I'll keep this review short and sweet. It was lacking for me, I don't know why. I just didn't enjoy this as much as I enjoyed the previous one, I didn't really connect with the concept or characters. Does that make it a bad book? Of course not, it's just not for me.

I wanted to read more about them!! I really liked the concept and it was such a cute and sweet romance with likeable characters. But I just have one question. If they could talk to each other anytime then how were they able to focus on their daily lives? I mean when one of them talk to other people that would also have been heard by the other, right? Unless there was an on and off switch which wasn’t mentioned there. Overall, it was a good read :)

this was such a sweet novella that was perfect to read on a sunday afternoon
beau and april becames each other love interest in an unconventional way (they could speak to each other via telecommunication) and quickly fell in love with each others thoughts and ideas
the author teased a steamy scene but ended up being a fade to black so I will have to check out her other novels to give a better spice rating

This is the third story in the series of unrelated characters in the town of Chance. It is an interesting way to incorporate magic-realism into romance. I really like April and Beau as the main characters and it was nice to watch their connection grow.

Thank you to NetGalley and Victory Editing for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Beau and April are both extremely focused on their work, and both have put off settling down in favor of their success. But one day, suddenly they can hear each other…like a telepathic connection between them. As they get to know each other, they have to decide if the connection they’re feeling is just a product of their unique circumstance, or if it could be something more.

A Missing Connection is the third in the Movie Magic Novella series. I’ve read all three through NetGalley, so I came into it aware that magical things happen in this town of Chance. But I have questions. How are they just so accepting that this is happening? And why can they hear some things but not others? Particularly, they only know each others’ first names. But when Beau introduces himself to someone by full name, why can’t she hear that? And why can’t he hear her when she’s creating an audio recording for him?

It’s a cute story, I maybe just had a hard time accepting it just for that without suspending disbelief about how it works.

Thank you NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review!

This is the third novella of Dani McLean’s Movie Magic Novella Series and this is also now my favourite of all of them. I love the concept of the story: two lonely strangers in (the fictional) Chance City realizes they can speak telepathically to each other. Speak, not read minds. However, they made each other promise not to meet or even think about the prospect of meeting (yet), and to not reveal their surnames/full identities. Beau and April were such raw and emotional characters. With some anonymity given by their telepathy, they’re inclined to tell each other what comes into their minds. They literally talk about anything and everything which made them instantly trust each other. I loved their late night conversations, their awkward ones when one of them is in public, and we can’t forget their sexy ones too. I also really love the title, “A Missing Connection.” That’s so clever, especially after you’ve read the book. It just suits perfectly. The entire thing literally felt like magic, which I guess is the point of the entire novella/series, and I don’t hate it! It may not be for everyone, they’ll maybe find it boring but it was just the perfect story for me. I loved reading it.

This was a super cute read! Our main characters Aubrey and Beau find themselves in a bit of a magical situation when they realize that they can both speak to one another through telepathy. As the pair get to know each other more and more, they realize that there is a special connection between the two of them that neither of them were expecting.

Some things that I liked:
✨ Their relationship (it was so cutesy)
✨ How we got both of their perspectives on why it "wouldn't work if they met"
✨ The (SPOILIES, but also like, not because come on now, it's a romance) eventual meeting
✨ The premise - it felt super unique and I really enjoyed it

Some things that I didn't like:
✨ The fact that this was only a novella. I would have really loved to have seen the relationship grow MORE before they met. It felt like it happened SO FAST, and I would have really enjoyed getting the chance to see everything bloom more as they got to know each other
✨ How quickly they accepted that they could speak to one another. The author gave a little blurb at the beginning explaining how this was a magical universe, but I would have liked more of an explanation IN story. Does this sort of thing happen often in this universe? Is this why the characters were so accepting of why they were able to?

Overall though, it was a really cute super easy read

A big shout out to Netgalley and Victory Editing for an e-ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review!

Is there anything more adorable than a romance novella? Well, probably yes. Puppies exist, but romance novellas are up there.

As advertised, A Missing Connection contains a lot of your favorite romance tropes: secret identity, pen pals, second chance, some spice 🌶! So it’s not surprising that as a fellow lover of the occasional romance book, I did really enjoy this story. I was held hostage by the flu on Valentine’s Day (of all days!), so reading this book between naps felt satisfying.

My critique of the book would be that there wasn’t any explanation about why the two characters could communicate via telepathy… Like no one questioned this? If I told my family that I was talking to and falling in love with a voice in my head that happened to be a public billionaire, I’d immediately think “schizophrenia.” (I’m not saying that as a negative thing, by the way; I’m a licensed therapist, and hearing voices is a real symptom.) We do love a supportive family, though! Maybe I’m just not the type of reader that can go with the entire flow - I need at least an attempt at explaining this strange connection!

This was my first time reading Dani McLean, and I liked her writing style a lot! It moved quickly and her descriptive were always spot on. I plan to find the other two installments from this novella series at my local library soon!

This was a fun novella based in the city of “Chance” where anything can happen. Aside from unknowingly working in neighbouring buildings, our two main characters live very different lives when one day they start to hear each others voices in their heads.

I adored Beau and Aprils story, their banter and especially the way they found comfort in each other despite them being complete strangers.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this eARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own ☻

I really enjoyed this one. It was really intriguing to see the two main characters interact with each other through thoughts alone as they didn’t know who they were in real life. April is workaholic and isn’t looking to settle down with a man. So when she starts hearing Beau in her head she is a bit shock. Beau is inheriting his father’s empire and is sick of people only wanting him cause he is rich. When he starts talking to April he realizes this is the perfect opportunity to get to know someone without his last name standing in the way. They make a rule to not tell each other who they are. But of course the more they talk the more they do want to know. It was good that this book had a dual pov so you could see the relationship from both sides. This was a really good premise to work with in this story and I think the author did an amazing job. I am definitely checking out the other books in this series. Recommend this one if you are looking for a short and sweet romance book.

If you are looking for a book with hints of magic and steamy romance that will give you all the cutesy feels, then look no further. A Missing Connection is about Beau and April juggling their life struggles and a newfound romance, but the twist is that they've never met. They are able to talk telepathically and decide not to share any information that might give away who they are so they can get to know each other without any preconceived notions. This novella had me smiling the entire time. I gave it five stars because I was able to devour it in a day, the characters were so lovable, and the author tells the reader just to enjoy and believe in the magic of Chance City. Chance City is a perfect name for a magical city, by the way. The story captured my attention, but the steamy and cutesy romance kept me interested. Two big thumbs up from me!!! I can’t wait till this novella comes out for all to enjoy!!!

When I saw this book was a novella, I wasn’t too sure if I’d like it. I find novellas to be hit or miss. A Missing Connection was a hit for me.

Things I Liked:

💕 McLean uses such vivid imagery to build her characters, location, and the scene - there wasn’t a single time where I was grasping at straws to build the image in my head.

💕 These characters. McLean does a great job introducing the characters and building them up with only 128 pages to accomplish what she did, wow.

💕 How the characters learned from each other, as one typically does in a relationship. How, even though they hadn’t met, they still supported and cheered the other on.

💕 The length. This book was the perfect length for an afternoon read. It was the perfect break I needed from the intensity/stress of other books I was reading.

Things That Weren’t my Favorite:

💕 At times I found the switching between characters mid-chapter to be distracting. A couple times the transition get disjointed and others I just didn’t get enough time in the characters’ heads.

💕 The length. But only because I wanted more and didn’t want it to end. Especially from the supporting characters.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC copy of this book to read and review. All of these thoughts and comments are my own.

When I first started reading it and Beau and April could hear each other voices in their head; I was like this is going to be pretty cool.

But honestly everything was too fast and weird for my taste. They immediately started being sexual towards each other and it was weird. The spice written in the story was good but it just happened way too quickly.

This story is super short and I feel like the plot was really good but everything happened was too fast and it was just awkward reading it. This should’ve been longer because they literally do not know each other and are moving so fast into a “relationship”. There should’ve been more backstory and more interaction between the two main characters.

Like I said; I liked the idea of the book but the writing wasn’t it for me. More thought should’ve been put into it.

3 stars.

Getting to know and read the Movie Magic Series has been one of the best things I've done this year so far, each book being top tier for me.

A Missing Connection it's a short novella where Beau and April can hear each other's voice in their heads, being this the beggining of an unusual relationship.

I loved every second of this, every page, every word made me want to keep reading. I'm a huge fan of easy and sweet reads and A Missing Connection it's a clear example of why.

At first glance it could be seen as only a romantic, fairytale-ish type of book but the more I kept thinking about it, the more meaning I could find to it. The idea of getting to know someone new without the preasure of trying to make a good first impression was so relaxing, being yourself and just being able to show how you truly are, the, good, the bad and everything in between, getting to fall in love with someone for the way they think, the way they are in the middle of the night when no one else is looking and taking out of the way any type of expectations when it comes to dating had me beliving in the most pure and authentic type of love.

10/10 for me! Couldn't get enough of April and Beau.

Thanks so much Netgalley and the author for this ARC in exchange of an honest review.
