This was one of my most anticipated reads for this year! I absolutely loved Daughter of the Pirate King and Daughter of the Siren Queen. I was so happy to get to know more about Sorinda! She was such an interesting character, and I loved getting to know more about her. If you love pirates, adventure, romance with pining, this book is up your alley. Tricia Levenseller has a way of sucking me right into the worlds she creates. This book was no exception. I read this in a day, I was so hooked! (pirate pun intended)
Levenseller's Pirate Queen world has hooked me from the very start. Getting a spin off was a fantastic treat and I enjoyed every page just like the first two books, highly recommend if you want a fun romp through a fascinating world!
This book was a fun pirate story filled with paranormal elements. Much of this reminded me of Pirates of the Caribbean especially with the curse and an inexperienced leader. I did wish that it had more of Alosha. She was one of the best parts in the first two books of the trilogy. Levenseller always writes a good story and this is no different. If you read the first and loved the Pirates movies than you should check it out.
Sorinda is an assassin working for Pirate Queen Alosa when she gets chosen to captain a crew on a rescue mission. It’s not enough, though, for her to just captain the crew. Her chosen helmsman is the infuriating Kearan. Things take an even worse turn when they accidentally awaken the King of the Undersea, who just happens to be able to control the dead. Can Sorinda make it through her first bought of captaincy or was her mission doomed from the start?
I have to start by saying I loved the original Daughter of the Pirate King duology and was pleasantly surprised to hear there would be a third book. I was even more ecstatic to learn it would feature some of my favorite supporting characters — Sorinda and Kearan. This book was described as “pirates of the Caribbean meets the mummy” and it 100% delivered on that claim. The King of the Undersea and his curse definitely gave off all The Mummy vibes. Much like the previous books, Vengeance of the Pirate Queen is action packed and fast paced. I was surprised and impressed by how Levenseller handled Sorinda’s past trauma and Sorinda’s attitude toward herself. Additionally the slow burn development between Sorinda and Kearan was entertaining to watch unfold especially a certain knife throwing scene. All in all, I really enjoyed this spin off sequel and hope to see more supporting characters getting their own story (please write a Roslyn spin off in the future). If you enjoy fast past pirate adventures with a dash of The Mummy, I highly recommend picking up Vengeance of the Pirate Queen.
It was so much fun returning to the world of Daughter of the Pirate King! I was excited to see more of Alosa and Riden, and although we do get to see how they're doing after the events of the second book, this is Sorinda's story. I really liked Sorinda; unlike a lot of YA assassin characters, she actually enjoys killing people. She isn't necessarily a 'good person,' although she would do anything for her friends and crew. This is definitely a standalone, and I appreciated how everything was wrapped up at the end. I liked the romance too, and seeing how far Kearan has come since the original books.
Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this book. I absolutely adore the daughter of the pirate king Duology, and this is a great continuation. The story follows the pirate queens, assassin as she leads her own crew. This story has adventure, romance, and a lot of piraty fun!
I’ve sailed through The Narrows and crossed the Aisling Sea but no pirate tale has completely sunk my heart and taken me for a ride like Trivia Levenseller’s “Daughter of the Pirate King” (now) trilogy. I absolutely loved Alosa coming into her power (book one) *and* her love story (book two); so I was delighted to continue my sea voyage with part of Alosa’s crew as her assassin Sorinda sets off on a quest to find a missing ship (book three). Sorinda has a dark past that she can’t seem to escape no matter how many kills she chalks up *and now* Kearan, her first mate, is being relentlessly kind and helpful much to her great annoyance and confusion (we the readers are much less annoyed and confused because Kearan is wonderful). Much like the marketing materials say, this novel has nods to POTC and “The Mummy” and I think it will satisfy the adventurer–and the romantic!–inside all of us.
Vengeance of the Pirate Queen was a swashbuckling tale filled with vengeance and forgiving ones self. I really enjoyed the first half of the book when Sorinda and her crew were on the Vengeance. Kearnan was definitely my favorite character, I loved how strong he was and how much he cared for Sorinda and helped her grow. I definitely didn't love the storyline as much when they got to the island as it didn't feel like a very pirate-y storyline but it was definitely unique.
I was so very excited to see where Tricia Levenseller took this story so I grabbed this as soon as I could!
I worry that I may have out grown this author. By that I mean that I absolutely love, love the first 2 books in this series and I'm not sure that this one was needed. When I started reading, the writing felt very middle grade to me and I found that I was just not that invested in these characters. I loved the glances of Riden and Alosa but never really felt a connection to Sorinda.
The comparison to Pirates of the Caribbean meets the Mummy felt accurate but again, didn't feel any investment in the trials this group of characters was being put through.
Thank you for the chance to return to this world - i'm a bit sad it didn't connect as well as the first 2 books did.
I liked this. I recently finished the duology that this spin-off is based on, and it was a pretty fun ride. I liked the characters that this story focused on, a bit more than the base story honestly. I liked the MC's spark in the duology but these characters felt a bit more real to me. I do wish that the ending wasn't as rushed, but the bulk of the story was such a fun adventure, and it seems to be open-ended enough to allude to more in the world? :o
This book!! I recently read Daughter of the Pirate King and Daughter of the Siren Queen and absolutely devoured them! I loved them and so as soon as I finished DOTSQ, I RAN to request this book!
It was amazing to return to the world (even though there was less than a weeks difference haha) and to see Sorinda’s story and her journey with Kearan. There was action and battles with a dash of romance. I was hooked from the very beginning.
The only thing I will say is that I did think the ending felt a little rushed and was quite open-ended. I would have liked something more definite… unless more books in the world are coming???
That all being said… when are we getting Rosalyn’s story??? I’d love to see a book set in the future with her as a main character!
I read the first two chapters (10%). It's fast paced, easy to read, easy to follow, and seems like it will be a grand adventure. This will go over really well with the target audience.
Thank to you NetGalley and Macmillan for the ARC.
I love Tricia Levenseller, and I always appreciate that she isn't afraid to write female protagonists who defy gender stereotypes - they're ruthless, fierce, and unyielding, while still being loyal to each other and to their causes. The protagonist of this novel - which is set in the same world as the Daughter of the Pirate King duology - is Sorinda, who has faithfully served Queen Alosa as her trusted assassin. This opens with a brutal scene in which Sorinda takes out a whole compound full of bad guys, establishing herself right away as somewhat of an anti-heroine. when she returns, Alosa has a new and different mission for her - she wants her to captain a crew to go after a missing ship, and she wants her to take Kearan, her hate/love interest, as her sailing master. I really liked this story - the plot moved quickly, the stakes felt high, and the fantasy elements were really well done - especially the super creepy ones. I don't know if this is a standalone or not, but either way, I'll be ready for whatever Tricia Levenseller puts out next.
The only thing that could have made this better would have been if we got more of the characters from the first book. Don't get me wrong they are here but not as much as I was hoping for. But that being said this would make a wonderful new series spin off. I would also love to see these characters grow and maybe this hedging into NA territory. I enjoy stories that grow with the reader. This was a wonderful addition to that original series and I could not put it down!! This one was ruthless and devastating and wonderful!
Thanks for the ARC! I loved getting back into the world of the Daughter of the Pirate King! Sorinda was fascinating and I enjoyed her story! I would like to see the story continue with at least 2 more books from the perspectives of Alosa's friends Mandsy and Niridia. I would also love to see Draxen have a redemption arc with one of them.

Daughter of the Pirate King was my first Tricia Levenseller's book and to get back to this World to discover Sorinda’s story made me beyond happy. If you are looking for a book full of adventure, a strong fierce FMC, pirate vibes and character growth, this is for you!
MY REVIEW | I never thought I would relate that much to Sorinda. She’s such a strong character outside, but when you get inside her head you quickly realize it’s all an armor. She’s so self-conscious and insecure and you kinda want to protect her even though she doesn’t look like she needs it and definitely doesn’t want help. Which is why Kearan has been the most precious soul ever! The way he understands her, leaves her space but is still there if she needs him is just perfect! I already loved these two so much when I read about them in the first books, so to get to see them more together and learn about their pasts was very satisfying. It was great to get this new side of Sorinda as the book went on, this adventure changed her way of seeing things and she found a true meaning to her life, which made me quite happy!
As always with Tricia’s books, the action parts were there to make this story really fast paced, and you still get deep moments with an emotional side to them which is the perfect balance. There’s only one small thing I have found with that book is that I was so freaking excited (some would say too excited) and expected to get hooked right away, but it took me a good 15-20% in before being absolutely unable to put it down. It’s not really a negative thing, I was just expecting it to go faster maybe, especially since I already knew the World and characters, that’s all. That being said, it served really well to give us an insight on how Sorinda’s mind is working and what type of character she really is behind her assassin’s clothes, so I'm not complaining at all!
I'm secretly hoping we'll get another story in that wonderful World cause honestly, I always feel like it was not enough!
Huge thanks to the publisher, the author and NetGalley for the eARC. All opinions are my own.
This was such a fun book to read. I found out that it was a series so I had to go and read this others. Strong female characters and lots of action. Perfect reading for a rainy day.
This book is killer! Literally. Fans of DAUGHTER OF THE PIRATE KING will love this new journey with Sorinda as the main character. She’s an assassin, Captain, and all around awesome pirate.
The story starts out bloody as Sorinda kills an old foe and wreaks vengeance on his crew for what they did to a female servant. The author doesn’t shy around darkness, but she doesn’t get overly detailed either. Sorinda is then made captain of the Vengeance; a perfect name for her ship! She sets out with her new crew to find some of the Queen’s missing pirate spies. As well as some old friends like Kearan, who is still sober and in love with Sorinda. The spies were following the land king as he tried to discover the panaceum; a siren artifact that makes a person invincible. Nothing on the trip goes to plan which forces both Sorinda and Kearan to share their vulnerabilities. There is beautiful character development as they face their pasts with forgiveness and their futures with hope. It’s a swashbuckling adventure that you won’t want to miss!
You don’t have to have read the first two books to appreciate Sorinda’s sharp sword, but I absolutely adore Alosa the Pirate Queen and would highly recommend them.
To the publisher:
I would love to see solo books from the POVs of Mandsy and Sorinda!!!!
I've posted on my social media accounts and will do a second round in November.
I absolutely loved this daughter of the pirate king and daughter of the siren queen. And then Tricia comes back and gives us this!? Yes please!!! It's even better than the first two! I couldn't put it down 10/10 highly reccomend
Sorinda is a fierce pirate. Her journey on being a new captain of a pirate ship is an adventure, that’s for sure. I like how the story progressed on her being more comfortable with herself and her past. This book had all the pirate vibes you’d want in a book.
