I LOVE HER BOOKS! This is no different! I loved seeing friends from the first two books and getting to see Sorinda and Kearon together? Sign me up pleeeeease!
It was love at first sight in a previous book, but it was not appreciated and getting to see it now? We love a good reluctant lovers story.
I absolutely adored both Sorinda and Kearan in the first two books in this world, and was so excited to read more about them. This story was definitely very connected with the other two books, however it absolutely was it’s own story and stood on it’s own. Alosa was mentioned quite a bit, it’s hard for her to not as the pirate queen and Sorinda’s friend, but Riden was actually quite minor. And honestly, I liked that. I like those characters a lot, but I’m glad that it was Sorinda’s time to shine in this story.
This book was so romantic, oh my goodness. It’s not over the top or in your face, honestly it’s pretty minor and very much a slow build. But when the moments are there, they are gooood. They are sweet and swoony, and wow does Kearan understand Sorinda like no one else can. In the words of Enwen - epic romance.
However, this story was so much more about Sorinda and her personal growth than anything else, and it was an amazing thing to read about. This book also seemed much more fantasy driven than the last two books, but it all seemed to fit well within the world that had been developed. Also, I don’t know if there’s plans for another book in this world, but I think I have a pretty strong guess as to what it would be if it happens! And of course I would never hesitate to pick it up, Tricia Levenseller’s writing is just so good. I’m totally hooked.
Thank you to the publisher & NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review an advanced copy of this book! I voluntarily read this book, and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I love everything Tricia Levenseller writes, and “Vengeance of the Pirate Queen” is no exception. This time around, our favorite pirate queen and her consort are background characters, while assassin Sorinda is the focus. While I won’t deny I would have eagerly read many more books featuring Alosa and Riden — but who wouldn’t?? — Sorinda and Kearan were so easy to get invested in. And the King of the Undersea plotline helps drum up the tension, although I’m not a huge fan of that cliffhanger. That said, I’ll be back for the next installment!
*Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC.*
You know the feeling you get when you reread a book? or that feeling when you're familiar with the world and are just so damn excited to get back to it? Reading Vengeance of the Pirate King gave me the feeling I had when I picked up the final Harry Potter book. I was immediately and completely sucked back into this world and I did not ever want to put it down all the while dreading the fact that it would end.
I don't read much YA but this original duology have always been 5 star reads for me and this book made them that much better. We go from following Alosa's journey in the first two books - then - switching the Sorinda's POV in the third, after the events of Alosa's accomplishments in the initial duology. Sorinda has the personality and the darkness inside her that makes her the perfect assassin. She is loyal, fearless, precise, and enjoys the hunt - but we get to watch the cold and uncaring parts of her transform into something else entirely when she has to work alongside Kearan. This is one of the better "high seas" stories that I have read as of late.
If you love good character development and Pirates of the Caribbean then this book (and the series as a whole) is for you!
i got access to this book from netgalley in exchange for a review!
i absolutely adore tricia levenseller and all her works. so of course i had to get my hands on her newest one! this book of the series turns to another character in the pirate queens life: sorinda, her vengeance. sorinda was the assassin friend of the pirate queen and it’s about time she got her own story. tricia levenseller is absolutely amazing at how she weaves her stories, enchanting you with every word.
i did think this book fell a little flat in comparison to the first book, which i thought the same of the second book too. did i still enjoy it? absolutely. will i read another if she writes it? also absolutely. should definitely give it a read!
