is this the most original story out there? no. some elements actually feel a bit recycled from her own previous stories. but is it kind of pick-me-up readers sometimes need to forget about the real world for a little bit? yes, yes it 1000% is.
and its that consistency that will always make me pick up a new AH novel.
Ana Huang is one of my favorite authors and I auto buy all of her books. When this story popped up on NetGalley, I didn't hesitate. Dante and Vivian's story is so well written and I loved it. Some of my favorite parts was when you saw characters from the Twisted series popped up and the scenes that they played out in those books and the overlapping areas of them.
Dante is a ruthless ass sometimes and Vivian is so naively trusting in certain things - but reading the challenges and the heartbreak and the GROVELING that happens in this book is exactly what I need. I can't wait for the other 6 stories to be told!
I always pick up an Ana Huang book when I need a grumpy man who would burn down the world for me.
It took me awhile to pick this one up. I enjoyed the Twisted series and always worry that an author's next series won't hit as well for me, personally.
read this if you like:
- arranged marriage
- opposites attract
- forced proximity
The arranged marriage trope can be hit or miss, and I truly loved this dynamic between Dante and Vivian. Both working under a sense of duty to their families, both resenting the other in different ways. They eventually find some common ground.
I loved getting to have characters who were aged up and actually acted their age. Vivian is 28 and actually acts like a grown woman. She's stuck in this cycle of serving her role in her family, of trying to live up to her parents' expectations, and she highlights this divide between her and Dante in the way they view loyalty within their family hierarchy. Dante's a grumpy little thing and I love that about him. Highly unreasonable most of the time but once he realizes his feelings for Vivian, the man is a goner. I'm excited to see Kai and Isa next!
*I've seen a lot of comparison to AlexAva in reviews, but I found Dante much more likeable than Alex*
Alright… if I love anything, it’s an enemies to lovers forced proximity trope!! Billionaire CEO arranged marriage to a jewelry Heiress, possessiveness, spice, its got it all! I thoroughly enjoyed this book and this author and look forward to much more!! Thank you NetGalley and publisher for this ARC.
Vivian Lau is arranged to be married to eligible bachelor and CEO Dante Russo. What she doesn’t know is that her marriage was arranged under the pressure of blackmail. Now her fiancé is planning a major revenge plot to destroy her father. The problem is that Vivian and Dante can’t deny the attraction between them.
Honestly, after reading this, I can definitely see millions of romance readers falling in love with it. There was action, drama, comedy, and heart breaking quotes. There were times that my heart did a few backflips. However, it was the basic romance story. It served nothing new for me so I could absolutely fall in love with it. It was also a bit weird. I did finish it in 1 day, so I think that should be enough to say that it was worth the read.
I really enjoyed this one! Not as much as Ana Huang's other series, but this one definitely has potential. I think I just struggled to connect to the characters quite as much.
This billionaire seven deadly sins romance was so good! It was so spicy! I am a fan of enemies to lovers and this was just perfect. Vivian was so sweet. Dante is dark and brooding . I cannot wait to read the next book in the series. Thank you to Netgalley and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for the arc I exchange for my honest review.
I have seen Ana Huang's books all over Instagram and I'm happy to say I've now finally read one. Props to her marketing people or whoever decided to make all her covers similar enough that they're instantly recognizable.
I really enjoyed this slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, arranged marriage--I mean goddamn, what's not to like? Actually one thing: I get that billionaire romance is a thing, but these people are spending exorbitantly and it hurts my little Marxist heart.
Other than that, it had a good amount of substance and simmer before the 🔥. I liked the characters, although Vivian was such a pushover with her parents it drove me a little crazy. The emotions at play in those relationships are fully addressed though, and in a realistic way. While Vivian and Dante get their HEA tied up with a nice little bow, Vivian and her family end on imperfect terms. I really liked that in this book of romanticism, that family dynamic felt grounded in reality.
Thanks for the ARC!
I enjoy a good enemies to lovers and this one was no different. While there was some angst, these characters hate for each other was more surface level than I prefer for this trope, but in the setting, I still really enjoyed the story. I'm a huge fan of this author's Twisted series, and jumped at the chance to try out this new book. Had all the things I love about her books and more. Loved it.
"I blamed my senseless actions on the month apart. Absence made the heart grow fonder and all that crap."
Who doesn't love a good enemies to lovers, arranged marriage, forced proximity, grumpy/sunshine romance? Holy heck that is a lot of tropes rolled into one! I'm a fan of Ana Huang and have read her Twisted series, so I am super excited for the King series and King of Wrath did not disappoint.
The book is a straight romance novel with a few other side plots. There are a handful of spicy scenes (4 - 5 I think?) and if you're looking for spice, Ana Huang does it really well without going too far into dark and twisty. She does offer some content warnings at the beginning of her the book and a playlist as well which is always a fun element for the story.
King of Wrath had a great pace and I loved the character development. Also - the descriptions of the Valhalla club make me swoon. My favorite part of these novels is how Huang ties them into her other series. We get mentions of Bridget/Rhys and Christian/Stella from the Twisted series. We can also see whose love story will be next in the series (Isabella and Kai) and tbh, every time Kai was mentioned I couldn't wait to hear HIS story!
Personally I really like Ana Huang's writing style. It is fun, her characters are sassy, and she keeps the plot moving which, in turn, keeps the reader hooked. This novel is no different and is a wonderful quick romance read! 4/5 stars.
I LOVE a good billionaire romance. Nobody does them like Ana Huang. These characters individually are dynamic and awesome, but together oh my gosh obsessed! I devoured this book. Such a quick read that I couldn't get enough. Dante was delicious as a MMC and I couldn't love him more! This book is a must read and I prefer it to the Twisted Love series.
It took me a minute to get into this one, but I felt like it grew on me the further I read. I loved the dual POV, which is usually my preference for romance books. I haven’t read too many books with the arranged / fake marriage trope but I enjoyed it here and it’s quickly becoming a favorite. I think I was expecting this to be darker and spicier than it was, but overall I really liked it especially the glimpse into the wealthy elite of NYC and exotic travels…please someone whisk me away to Paris on a whim! 😍😂😉
Wow! This was my first Ana Huang book even though I know how popular she is on BookTok and it did not disappoint. It is filled with the tropes like billionaire, forced proximity/engagement, etc. but it was so well done and I could not put it down. I cannot wait to read the next book. Dante was the perfect flawed alpha male and Vivian really grew into her own through the book, and I loved reading the mix of sweet and spice.
I loved King of Wrath. We first get a glimpse of Dante and Vivian in the Twisted series and now we get to see their story and WHEEWW. It was every bit of hot and steamy as I’d expected it to be.
Big thanks to Sourcebooks: Bloom Books for the early copy of this book. This review is being given honestly and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was my first Ana Huang book and I’m happy to say she has lived up to her reputation. King of Wrath is a romance featuring Dominic and Vivian who are arranged to marry based on a business deal (or so Vivian thought). The setup honestly sounds a lot more angst than it really was. I did like the book but felt like it was okay overall.
Vivian was a fun character and I could really relate to her on the aspect of struggling with your duty to family and also trying to be yourself as my culture is very similar. Dominic was fun and hot to read about and I like that the reason for the marriage came out before the wedding took place but after substantial relationship building had been complete because both characters were able to really feel the impact of Vivian leaving. I will say that the buildup to getting back together was really sweet and I love that Vivian held out for longer than I assumed she would have, it really highlights that she did love Dominic but she needed to make sure they could be good together without everything that hindered them the first time around and that they did need space form each other for her to figure that out.
King of Wrath is book one in the series and though I am excited for the rest of the books I think I am going to pick and choose what I pick up for the rest of the series because some of the prompts don’t interest me as much as others. Would definitely rec this for people looking for Wattpad-esque romance. To clarify, I just mean these types of plots are not normally seen in traditionally published romance.
Ana can do no wrong and this book did not disappoint. I loved the story and the way the book played out. The whole vibe was there and I just couldn’t get enough of this story! Can’t recommend it enough!
I really enjoyed Ana Huang’s writing. You definitely should read the twisted series before reading this one.
I loved this book! I will definitely be recommending to friends. Ana is one of my favorite authors and this series might be a new favorite!
I think I did this to myself.
I was truly expecting something gripping, and perhaps for other readers it may be. It is full of drama and pretty fast paced, but it feels like a ton of cliches and reiterations of stories we have all read, jumbled into one poorly written book.
I will say that while it is not a good book, or my personal taste, I know this book will be popular.
I enjoyed this book. It was an interesting read . I found that I was able to read quickly and enjoyed the pacing and premise of the book. I would recommend to others.
