#18 in the Jason Bourne thriller series, Brian Freeman knocks this out of the park. It is crazy to me sometimes to think that a series can go on this long, with so many movies and still come back for more. Brian Freeman carries the Robert Ludlum torch with strength! Just when you thought that Bourne was going to slow down in his new life with his girlfriend, he finds out that someone is targeting Treadstone agents. Lennon is back and this book concludes their saga, but there is a wide opening for more.

Good, satisfying story. Pacing is excellent and there are plenty of twists and turns along the way. Recommended for action / thriller fans and and those who wish more of Jason Bourne.

I enjoyed the plot & story. It was engaging & kept me intrigued.

I did not care for & was put off by the superfluous language that detracted from the book.

Thanks to Netgalley & the Publisher for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Robert Ludlum’s The Bourne Defiance by Brian Freeman is excellent! I didn’t want to put it down as it had lots of everything - Jason Bourne with his mysterious past and his loves, action, mystique and suspense. A super thriller!

Thanks to NetGalley and THE PENGUIN GROUP Putnam for the opportunity to read this great ARC.

Thank you NetGalley and Penguin Group for the eArc of The Bourne Defiance.
This was a very good book and highly suggest it especially if you liked the movies. This is my first book in the series so I am really far behind but I don’t think you need to read the other books to keep up.

Thank you to the publisher, author and Net Galley for the ARC for this fantastic book!

I have been a big Jason Bourne fan throughout the years, but up until last year's Bourne adventure, I had begun wondering if the series was running out of gas. Well, I was wrong, and Brian Freeman has really pumped new life into the series. In this latest edition, a plane crash and the conspiracy behind it is intertwined with the conclusion of the Bourne/Lennon saga. This was an absolute page turner, and I finished this in one sitting. This time, though, I really wonder if this series has now run its course; I am very curious to see. I thought the Bourne Sacrifice was great, but I really think this one was even better. 5-stars!!!

When you read a Ludlum story, whoever the author may be, your number one main man has to be Jason Bourne. Here he needs to protect other Treadstone operatives and in doing so goes against an oldtime enemy in this action-packed story.

What a great thriller! It's like Brian Freeman was made to carry on the Jason Bourne legacy. Freeman uses the disappearance of MH 370 (different name in book) as the catalyst to an intense, sometimes heartbreaking tale of deceit, betrayal and ultimately forgiveness. It was refreshing to read a thriller not connected to Afghanistan or the U.S.'s withdrawal. Freeman really knocked The Bourne Defiance out of the park!

Thank you to G.P. Putnam's Sons and NetGalley for the opportunity to read a galley of The Bourne Defiance!

It's Jason Bourne so there is plenty of action and suspense. Someone is killing all the Treadstone agents that were involved in an operation that took Jason's memories. Jason and another operative named Nova are working together to find out who is behind it and why while trying not to get killed by an operative named Lennon (he likes to hum Beatles songs).

Jason Bourne, to me, is an icon. Brought to life by my favorite author, Robert Ludlum, he still manages to grab and hold my interest even when the stories are written by another.

Brian Freeman has taken this character and made him his own, without diminishing the wonderful portrayal of Ludlum’s personality. This is another wonderful thriller and if you are a Jason Bourne fan don’t miss this one.

Highly recommended!

Bourne has settled into something of a new life with his girlfriend Abbey Laurent. Then he finds someone is targeting former Treadstone agents for elimination. That sets Bourne on a path to get to the bottom of it and end the threat. This brings Lennon back into the picture. This back and forth between them and their friends makes this book really good. The cat and mouse action is really well done. I love the Bourne series and this is a worthy addition to the series.

Jason Bourne is at it again, trying to figure out who is targeting Treadstone’s agents. As we read along as the plot unfolds it gets more and more interesting. Definitely another good chapter in this sage!

Brian Freeman rewards readers with a great Jason Bourne story. Cain and Abel are at it again, and government secrets are slowly revealed in an action thriller that kept my attention all of the way. Bourne has two love interests here, and Freeman draws the characters well. Can either woman, Nova or Abbey, keep Bourne's heart?
Romance takes second place to the attempts to keep silent a major government coverup, and politicians don't fare too well. Sleazy characters, but very credible!
The readers does, fare well though, and I heartily recommend this high action, genuine thriller.
Thanks NetGalley, the publisher, and Brian Freeman for the ARC.

Brian Freeman leads us through the adventures of Jason Bourne with fast-paced writing. I’m always pleased to see another entry in this series from Freeman, and always read for another adventure when I finish the latest story.

Freeman has fashioned a new direction in this storyline, with a cast of characters that has quickly grown on me, and a clarity of writing that keeps the action grounded around our central hero. I would recommend this book and Freeman’s take on the character to readers eager for some tight writing and action.

With The Bourne Defiance, Brian Freeman establishes a new bar for Jason Bourne and his competition in the thrillerverse as he writes a story so compelling, twisty, action-packed, and ingenious, that I couldn’t help but finish it in one sitting. I don’t usually finish books in one sitting but when Freeman writes, he doesn’t waste words.
Jason Bourne is recovering more and more of his memory after a deadly brush with his nemesis, Lennon, a formidable assassin from his past. Just when he thinks he has gotten a break from the violence and darkness of his previous life, he’s pulled back into its cold murderous grips when assassins start unspooling every corner to take him out. With Treadstone operatives under attack and all clues pointing to a mission in Bourne’s past, Bourne must take the offensive and lead the fight to the enemy’s doorstep, whereas fate has it, he’s going to get a final shot at his nemesis. May the best killer win.
There’s a freshness to the Bourne books by Brian Freeman that genuinely distinguishes these stories from others in the thrillerverse. Freeman makes use of the international reach of Treadstone to write stories that offer different sorts of antagonists and novel perspectives that trickle down to a new energy when it comes to character interactions and action sequences. There’s a mesh of conspiracies and secrets playing underneath the simple premise of Treadstone operatives being hunted, and it’s this entangled web that makes the narrative so intriguing that you are jolted page by page to read and figure out more.
The more I read Freeman’s interpretation of Jason Bourne, the more confident I feel in stacking Bourne with the elite heroes of thrillerverse. His propensity for violence is second to none as he takes down his enemies with style, precision, and panache that doesn’t take away from the grounded nature of the stakes. At the same time, there’s a humanity to Bourne that paints him as a complex and relatable character who’s easy to root for and feel for even as he goes through circumstances we can’t ordinarily imagine. Bourne’s predicament to protect the woman he loves while dodging knives and ducking bullets is one that will cost him and Freeman doesn’t shy away from that heartbreak.
A major reason I finished this book in one-sitting is Bourne’s rampage. Freeman has written his most action-packed story yet, with shootouts on almost every chapter written so captivatingly that you’re going to want to read each one from the first indication of danger to the last bullet from Bourne’s Sig at least a few times. It scratched that huge action itch for me quite nicely. The climax is one to get your heart rate shooting through the roof as Bourne and Lennon face off against each other, with nothing to help them but their instincts, training, and unfiltered hatred for each other.
The Bourne Defiance has claimed its rightful spot in 2023’s most exciting and memorable reads. From a killer insight into how David Webb became Jason Bourne to the final confrontation between him and the original Jason Bourne, it’s a beautifully tragic tale that’s going to make you sit and take it all in after you finish it with a quiet contemplation.
