What a propulsive, fantastic summer read! While it wonโ€™t keep me from getting on a plane for my next vacation, it certainly kept me on the edge of my seat, sitting by the pool!

Bill Hoffman is given an impossible choice: crash the plane heโ€™s currently piloting, or sign a death warrant for his family.

I loved the character development, loved how the relationships were interwoven, and I specially loved the pacing of this book. It is everything I want in a summer thriller! Thanks to Nathalie for an advanced waiter, coffee, and exchange for an honest review.

I literally kept alternating between gasping and holding my breath from beginning to end!

Thank you to NetGalley and Avid Reader Press for the ebook ARC. All opinions are my own.

When flight 1421 takes off from Hawaii to San Francisco, no one has any cause for concern flying out. 10 minutes into the flight, though, the entire system fails and, before they know it, flight 1421 makes a last "ditch" effort into the ocean in an effort to keep as many passengers alive as possible. As the plane breaks apart and fires begin to erupt, passengers are forced to make a life changing choice in order to survive. When several passengers who choose to stay in the plane end up sinking to a shelf 200 ft down in the ocean, it becomes an all hands on deck mission for the military and a civilian contract firm to rescue the passengers stuck in the plane. Included on the passenger list is the husband and daughter of the civilian contractor so the stakes become even higher to ensure that everyone comes out alive.

This was one of the most exciting books I've read in a long time! The technical research that went into this book really showed that Newman wanted to make the reader understand the gravity of the situation as much as possible. I also loved all of the different characters and their stories. Ultimately, this was a story of teamwork and never giving up hope and was absolutely thrilling.

๐Ÿฆ‹ Will and Shanon are on flight 1421. Their flight is about to crash due to an explosion in the engine.

๐Ÿฆ‹ The flight can't be taken back to Honolulu or land nearby as there is ocean all around and the plane will not be able to fly anymore.

๐Ÿฆ‹ The plane crashes into the Pacific Ocean and drowns. The fire spreads and many passengers die.

๐Ÿฆ‹ Will advises the rest of the passengers to stay inside if they wanna be alive.

๐Ÿฆ‹ Chris is Will's soon-to-be ex-wife and Shanon's mother. She works together with the rescue team to save her kid and the other 12 passengers trapped in the flight.

With not much time and very less air will Chris be able to save her kid? Will the passengers survive?

This book has so much emotion. A wonderfully crafted story. Keeps you on the edge the entire while thinking about what's next. Whether this passenger will survive or not? The past of Chris and Will is so painful and heartbreaking. Every character was written with precision. Overall a great read. One of the 5-star reads of the year.

I first read Falling by T.J. Newman and was captivated from the first chapter so when I saw Drowning, I scooped it right up! Just like her first novel, this is a non-stop page turning thriller! I love how I was able to get to know the characters on an intimate level while also receiving some super smarter than me technical information. Iโ€™m positive the research for this book was intense!

I had such a fun time reading ๐—™๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด when it was released, so I was extremely excited and anticipating this release. I had such a blast reading this thrilling read, I did a combo of the audio and ebook.

TJ Newman always leaves me in suspense with her stories. This one follows a group of characters trapped inside an airplane underwater. I was gasping the whole time! My fear of going on a plane went up after reading thisโ€ฆ but this was such a captivating read.

The plot itself is a bit predictable at times, but I still found myself enjoying this book. The eerie setting gave me shivers, there were times when it was emotional - primarily with Will and his daughter.

This was a fast-paced book. Without a doubt, you can 100% finish this in one sitting. Itโ€™s so engaging and youโ€™ll never want to put the book down. This book does primarily focus on survival and oh man, there was so much tension and action throughout it.

Newman definitely knows how to write suspenseful thrillers, I would honestly these are perfect for the summer - just not on a plane ๐Ÿ˜‰ but the action-packed story will have you intrigued from early on. Just like ๐—™๐—ฎ๐—น๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด, ๐——๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐˜„๐—ป๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด is a must-read!

Whatโ€™s one of your FAVE reads so far this year? ๐Ÿ’˜

Hereโ€™s my mid year favourites (which I canโ€™t stop recommending!) โœจ

โœˆ๏ธ DROWNING// TJ Newman - seriously, if you need a bingeworthy read, this one has you covered. I read it in a day!

I know this book has gotten rave reviews, so I am definitely the outlier among the bunch! I thought the premise of this book was as intriguing as it was terrifying - a portion of a plane, with crew and passengers still onboard, sinking to the bottom of the ocean. The action starts from page one, which always makes for a breathless read. It had the potential to be a book that keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time - unfortunately for me, the heavy emphasis into the physics-aspect of the rescue mission slowed it down considerably.

It's crazy to think that this book came out just a few short weeks before the submersible tragedy swept the international community. I feel like I learned so much about underwater physics during that week, and I seriously considered a reread of this book because I felt that with some new (albeit probably still very basic) knowledge under my belt, I would have enjoyed the book so much more. I'm sure this stems to me being a very visual person, and because I couldn't picture what was happening, or what they were trying to avoid happen, I struggled to connect with the story.

With all that said, if you are looking for a unique thriller with a countdown-clock scenario, the reviews highly suggest you give this a try!

DROWNING was a quick and easy read, fast-paced and entertaining. The characters were a bit difficult to distinguish from each other at times, and some of the twists felt a little contrived. I enjoyed it on the whole and would try another one from this author.

After reading Falling, I just knew I was going to love Drowning! TJ Newman writes a great thriller and this one had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
A plane down into the ocean, a mom on the land. I actually cried at the end of this book. If they make a movie, I will be the first one there!
Great character development and a wild ride.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for a review.

Drowning is the latest airplane crash thriller offering from T.J. Newman, author of Falling.
Apparently T.J. is determined that we should all have heart palpitations while flying.

In Drowning, the plane ends up trapped underwater as the rescuers race to find it. Sounds a bit like recent current events!
Although I started out completely into the story, it lost me about halfway through. There were just too many near death experiences within a near death experience that the book seemed to be trying too hard.

This was a fun surprise! Drowning is a suspense thriller with a race-against-the-clock rescue premise, which is not a genre I often gravitate to. I had a great time with this. The author is a former flight attendant, and I could definitely see her experience reflected in her writing, but the details were well integrated into the overall story rather than overwhelming the reader with details. The story was well paced, and the character arcs successfully pulled at my emotions in a way that kept me invested, but did not leave me devastated. I know this author's first novel has been picked up for a screen adaptation, and I will definitely be keeping an eye out for that.

Suspenseful but a little unrealistic. Did not enjoy it as much as other people. Was not a big fan of the characters.

The most engaging, fast paced book I have read in a long time. Five out of five stars.

Talk about needing anxiety meds after reading this one! I love real-life books where you can feel every emotion while you read. The anxiety, sadness, desperation and relief when it was over were so vivid. I couldn't imagine actually being trapped in a plane at the bottom of the ocean, but I definitely feel more gratitude for my life than I did before I read this book. Time to go hug my family a little tighter.

Thank you to NetGalley, T.J. Newman and Avid Reader Press for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Personal review: โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ

Woah. First things first, donโ€™t read this if you are planning on plane travel anytime soon - being 25 weeks pregnant I wasnโ€™t planning on traveling, so I thought, why not! This book is described as reads like Apollo 13, but underwater. Prepare to not be able to put this one down, from the first chapter you are thrown right into the action, and also have so many characters thrown at you! You will understand them all in the end- donโ€™t worry! After the plane going down and realizing how precarious the surviving crew and passengers situation is, you are thrown into problem solving situations - trial and error. This is an edge of your seat thriller, short and suspenseful, emotional and heart stopping!

Synopsis: Six minutes after takeoff, Flight 1421 crashes into the Pacific Ocean. During the evacuation, an engine explodes and the plane is flooded. Those still alive are forced to close the doorsโ€”but itโ€™s too late. The plane sinks to the bottom with twelve passengers trapped inside.

More than two hundred feet below the surface, engineer Will Kent and his eleven-year-old daughter Shannon are waist-deep in water and fighting for their lives.

Their only chance at survival is an elite rescue team on the surface led by professional diver Chris Kentโ€”Shannonโ€™s mother and Willโ€™s soon-to-be ex-wifeโ€”who must work together with Will to find a way to save their daughter and rescue the passengers from the sealed airplane, which is now teetering on the edge of an undersea cliff.

This is a sensational book !
One of the best thrillers I have read this yr.
From the jumping off page, final descent to the ocean floor & the rescue, there is nothing not to like.
The dynamics between the crew, passengers & especially the father & daughter are a privilege to read.
You will never look at another trip on an airplane in quite the same way.
The descriptions of the way the rescue is handled & the role Will's wife has in it,are the things that a great book makes.
Prepare to be thrilled & fully entertained !

Thriller

No sophomore slump for Newman! This is an amazing follow up to her debut novel Falling.

A few minutes after take-off Will Kent's plane experiences a major engine failure and crashes into the Ocean. While the survivors evacuate the plane, more catastrophic events occur, causing Will, his daughter and the few others left on the plane to close and seal the doors. It's not enough and the plane sinks. How can they be extracted? Is it even possible?

This novel takes you on an exhilarating thrill ride from the get go and never lets up. I loved every minute of this book and cannot wait for more from this author.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this novel.

Drowning is the 2nd book from T.J. Newman and I thought it was a decent "summer blockbuster". It very much had the feel of a popcorn flick summer blockbuster movie but I do think that is some of it's shortcomings. Drowning does a good enough job to give you a sense of dread but unfortunately Newman did not do a good enough job fleshing out the characters to really make me care if they survived or died. She threw a ton of characters out at you in the beginning just to fill out the plane but didn't really give much of a back story to anybody except the main trio, and that still felt out this is what happened in quick snippet just to catch you up. I think this book could have been longer to give us those moments. I know Newman was a flight attendant before becoming a published author so I would say the level of details surrounding a plane felt realistic so I do think a survival plane crash story suited her. Again, I do think it was a decent story but one I finished I felt like there wasn't enough meat on the bone.

Thank you Netgalley for providing a review copy.
