After reading Falling by T.J. Newman, I was excited to see another book out by Newman called Drowning. Falling was such a fantastic read for me I couldn't wait.
Drowning is a heart pulsing read about a plane that crashes into the ocean and lands on top of a volcano in the ocean near Hawaii. One of the passengers spouses takes the lead in attempting to rescue the passengers remaining in the ship but it is a very shakey plan and many things can go fately wrong.
I literally could not put down this exciting page turner.
If you like fast pace exciting thrillers get this book.
Thank you Netgalley and Simon and Schuster for this advanced copy in exchange for my honest review.

I’ve heard that this book will be made into a movie, and I definitely understand why. The premise is perfect for the screen: Likable characters, being trapped inside an airplane under water and the nearly impossible task of getting the passengers out of there.
It’s literally nonstop action except for those transitions to the past where we learn more about Will and Chris Kent. It far surpassed my extremely high expectations.

Absolutely amazing. This was a legit edge of your seat thriller that barely gives you a chance to breathe. Read this in less than a day. I got a bit of nostalgia reading this, reminds me of all those 90’s movies where it’s a race against time. I loved the characters and back stories and at no point did I think ‘oh that was a dumb move’. This author will definitely be on my buy list going forward. But, a different cover next time?👍👍

I won this pre release book not knowing what it was about, when I read the summary I thought no way do I have any interest in it! Then after the Titan situation I really had no desire. So many people were talking about it though I had fomo and gave in and I’m glad I did!
This book grabbed you from the first page and kept you hooked until the end. The characters were easy to follow and the narration was done nicely back and forth. Too much back and forth or multiple narrators can make me feel like I have a tv in the background instead of an audiobook, wasn’t the case here.
Flying, small spaces are not really my thing either and I expected more anxiety while reading/listening. It was well written with more story line with less small space or fear of flying anxiety inducing details. I’ve avoided Falling for the same reason but I think I will read it now. I truly appreciate this no fluff no stretching out a solution to the point of annoyance, straight to the point, thrill inducing book.
This review has already been posted to Goodreads.

Very unpopular opinion alert: 2.5 stars! I didn’t love this book. I thought the characters were too one-dimensional so I couldn’t get invested like I hoped. There was also a lot of technical jargon that led to me skimming some pages - the story just didn’t connect with me at all. Thanks to Avid Reader Press and NetGalley for the free copy in exchange for my honest review!

I was hooked from the first page. This book was non-stop action and I loved every second of it. I could barely put it down.
I had read the author’s previous book Falling and absolutely loved it, so when I saw this book and its description, I knew I needed to read it.
The ocean terrifies me, and the thought of being stuck inside a plane at the bottom of the ocean scares the shit out of me. I was on edge almost the whole book. It stressed me out. But I had to keep going because I needed to know what happened.
The writing was great. The characters were believable and the story had me turning the pages late into the night. I cannot wait for the next book from this author.
Thanks to T. J. Newman, Avid Reader Press (Simon&Schuster) and NetGalley for an e-ARC!

T.J. Newman's Drowning is the best book I've read so far this year!
A former flight attendant, the author draws on her real-life training and experiences to bring heart and authenticity to the characters of this book. She supplements that knowledge with first-hand research as well as input from experts to create a smart thriller that kept me hooked from page one.
This book is so emotional - be ready. There were points where I had to step away and take a break to regroup; this demonstrates just how thoroughly connected I became to these characters. Are you wondering how Ms. Newman could write another airplane thriller, or how she could fill 300 pages with the story of an airplane in trouble? Trust me, she can do it brilliantly, and you don't want to miss it. Her previous stand-alone thriller, Falling, is one of those amazing books I recommend to anyone who will listen; Drowning just might be even better.
Make sure you read the Acknowledgments at the end of the book for an incredible look into the research that went into this writing. Thank you to NetGalley and Avid Reader Press / Simon & Schuster for the opportunity to read and review this outstanding book.

Fast paced, heart thumping, and I could not stay seated while reading Newman’s sophomore novel about a plane crashing in the ocean. I walked in circles and took deep breaths to finish the last third of the book. Thanks for the intoxicating read and I’m already looking forward to the next one from T.J. Newman.
Thank you Netgalley, Avid Reader Press, and T.J. Newman for the opportunity to read it early.

Great thriller! Kept me on the edge on my seat and wanting to read to find out what happened. Funnily good timing with the recent current events.

I just loved this book. The subject matter is grim but TJ Newman does a superb job of making each character seem real and believable. I thought it was so well written without being overdone. It was a perfect blend of science and drama. I will recommend this book to everyone!

This book had me TENSE from page one in a totally masterful and engrossing way. It never let up. I felt like I was on the plane and like I couldn’t wait to get out of this situation. I read this faster than I’ve read something in a long time. If you don’t like flying, maybe, uhhhh …. sit this one out. I was glad I don’t have any flights scheduled right now.

This book is another smash from T. J. Newman, following Falling. Drowning is another “read in one sitting because you can’t stop at the end of the chapter” book. A must have if you like thrillers, and can sit and read a book in one sitting. Take a weekend or day off, and don’t read before bed if you like to sleep, because you won’t get any of you start it at bedtime.

I am still in shock after reading this. I've never read a thriller before that was so emotional. Obviously the storyline was intense, fast-paced and really got my heart racing but getting to know the characters and their history meant that I had a real attachment to each one of them and left me completely invested in their race to survive the disastrous situation they found themselves in. This book really took me by surprise, I wasn't expecting to love it as much as I did - a top-class thriller.

Wow! T.J. Newman does it again. Drowning is so well written. I read the story in one day. I just couldn’t stop. I had to know what was going to happen next. As a former Flight Attendant for TWA, my pulse quickened at the little details that brought authenticity into the story. Kiddos for another winner! I highly recommend that you read Drowning and her first novel Falling.
Thank you #NetGalley, #AvidReaderPress, #Simon&Schuster, #T.J.Newman and #DrowningTheRescueofFlight1421 for the advance copy for my honest review.

This fast paced survival thriller had me hooked from beginning to end. This book follows a plane crash ending in the ocean with several passengers trapped inside. There is a rush to rescue them before the air runs out.
I really liked the varied perspectives in this book, from those inside to the rescuers trying to come up with a plan. Everyone's personal story was touching and had its own place. This book seemed more realistic since many things were tried during the rescue effort. Since it didn't go perfectly, the suspense really ratcheted up.
One of the best suspense/thrillers I have read so far this year!
Thank you to Simon and Schuster and Netgalley for providing me a copy of this ARC for my honest review.

Holy smokes. What a ride. Please for the love of all that is holy. Make this book into a movie. It was be so incredible. But in all seriousness this book was awesome. Action packed, clever and well written. I did get lost in some of the mechanical mumbo jumbo but I was still hooked. And thought the ending was perfect.

Another high tension, edge of your seat thrill ride from Torri and it doesn't disappoint.
I loved the debut novel Falling, the stories she has collected over the years as a flight attendant were hilarious, the banter in highly stressful situations helped ease the tension and I ate it up.
This book, I think is even better I loved the strong female lead characters and the simmering family dynamic in the midst of grief from the loss of a child it was very powerful and respectful the way Torri narrated this topic.
Flight 1421 is forced to ditch into the ocean just minutes after take off from Honolulu. The plane starts a rapid nose dive towards the ocean floor, some passengers escape others are trapped inside as the plane settles on a precarious ocean shelf. Whilst they wait for rescue, the cold water is creeping in, against the rising water and depleting oxygen levels.... a massive rescue operation ensues.
Im a scuba diver, so appreciated the level of detail Torri went into around the risks associated diving to that depth, the decompression sickness, hypothermia and not to mention drowning.
This book like her first reads like a movie, it's no surprise there was a bidding war to pickup the right for this movie. I cant wait to see what warner bros do with this movie it will be amazing.

Wow!!!! This book had me hooked from page one. It was non stop suspense from beginning to end and I absolutely devoured it. It was the perfect edge of your seat, fingernail biting, action packed thriller. This book will keep you up way too late at night because you have to know what happens next and how it will end . You simply won’t be able to put it down. It reads like a movie and if it isn’t turned into a movie, I’d be shocked.
6 minutes after take off, a flight out of Hawaii crashes into the ocean. Initially passengers are just happy to be alive, but then the plane goes underwater trapping several passengers inside with a small air bubble and limited time to survive. A harrowing and seemingly impossible rescue mission begins and will take you on a wild ride.
I read this as the submersible news story was going on and it was impossible not to think about fiction mimicking real life as I was reading. Everyone should definitely pick this book up for the perfect suspense book this summer.
Thank you to @netgalley and @avidreaderpress for the digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Drowning is out now!

unpopular opinion alert!!! 🙃 after absolutely loving FALLING, I knew I had to snag this one (after waiting until two trips via flights were over iykyk)
however, it didn’t do it for me…
what I loved the most about FALLING was the mystery behind the suspense thriller elements, leaving the reader flipping through pages to not only find the resolution but also to find out the reasoning behind the entire thing!
DROWNING had none of that, in fact we don’t even find out the reason behind the plane crash in the first place! I wanted more of a mystery sabotage element, and what I got was a heart-pounding race to the finish line suspense novel 🤪 which don’t get me wrong was completely bingeable, but I wanted more!!!
I really loved how humanized all of the characters were, even the assholes, and how I was rooting for each and every one of them until the very end! and for someone with a slight fear of flights, I appreciated how it didn’t spend much on the crash itself but instead on the aftermath (which was WILD) 🤯😱
I would definitely read more by this author in the future, but sadly, this one missed the mark for me!
thank you to netgalley and simon & schuster for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review!!
rating: 2.5 stars

I would like to thank Netgalley and the publisher for this advance copy of Drowning. Wow what a read. Non-stop from page one. I received approval to download and read this during a recent holiday and was so glad I didn’t elect to read it on the flight home. I was on terra firma when I read this and was instantly gripped. One thing that stood out was how much it read like a film script and a really good one at that. It would make a fantastic movie. For the most part the novel is a very claustrophobic read. I felt like I was almost side by side with the people on board the plane. I felt their pain every step of the way. The crash happens quite early on and I wondered how the author would keep the momentum going for the rest of the book, but boy do they manage that. An excellent read that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
