“Drowning” by T.J. Newman played out in my head like a blockbuster movie. In fact, I’m sure the movie rights have already been bought.
A adrenaline fueled thriller, the story takes place on Flight 1421 which has crashed into the Pacific Ocean and requires a rescue operation to save the survivor’s lives. The characters are compelling and the action is non stop.

Am I terrified to fly again? Yes. Am I terrified of loosing my daughter? Yes, yes I am. But would I recommend this book? Yes. A million times yes.
I do not have the right words to explain how I felt when I read the first few chapters. I was so scared. All my real life fears became so real. My anxiety was so high. The way the story was written and how it unfolded made me feel more and more emotional. It's like there was a lump in my throat that kept getting bigger, and just when I thought I could finally breathe out, the story pulled me back in.
•Gave me Independence Day vibes!
•The research that went into this book is very clear. There is so much knowledge and information. But done in a way anyone could understand it
•The premise is perfect for the screen (I’ve heard that this book will be made into a movie)
•The suspense in the book is incredible
•The writing is sharp, powerful, and riveting
•I felt like I was right there with the characters, experiencing their fear, desperation, and hope.
•The pacing is relentless, never allowing for a dull moment
•The twists and turns kept me guessing until the very end.
•Newman actually made me gasp and I was so on edge!
•Newman's ability to balance action-packed story telling with emotional depth is amazing.
•Along with the high-stakes situation, there are moments of vulnerability, self reflection, and human connection that tug at your heartstrings.
•It's not just about the survival of the characters, but also about their resilience, determination, and the bonds they form in the face of adversity.
Even though it's a fictional story and probably a bit far fetched, I really enjoyed reading this book! I need to go grab Falling now since I am so obsessed with Drowning!

How many stars can I give this book? This was a gripping thriller. It had from beginning to end and for the first time in years I stayed up to finish a book. I could not go to bed not knowing how it ended. It was so so so good. The characters were beautiful and real. This is a true non-crime thriller at its finest.

Drowning is about a plane that crashes into the Pacific Ocean shortly after takeoff. Twelve surviving passengers are forced to shut the door while the plane sinks 200 feet to the bottom of the ocean. Engineer Will Kent and his daughter Shannon must fight as a family to survive. What follows is a crazy rescue mission and it is INTENSE!!
I could not put this one down! It was so good and gripped me right from the beginning. It really was like Apollo 13 under water! I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen next and the author did a great job explaining very technical aspects in a way that I could understand. I had not read her first novel Falling but will be going back to read after this one! Highly recommend if you want an edge of your seat disaster thriller. 5 ⭐️

Drowning by T J Newman
.
Just look at the title and cover and then go into this book blind.
I promise you it will feel like you are watching an action movie play out in your mind as you read!
This book was action packed from the start to the end! It was an amazing ride and I read this book just as fast as my kids would let me.
There are not enough good things I can say about Drowning, I HIGHLY recommend it. It was suspenseful, it was smart, it had heart and I loved every minute of it.
5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

What an amazing thrill ride. I devoured this book and I can totally imagine it as a movie which movie goers will surely enjoy! Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced reader’s copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

In Drowning, by TJ Newman, a plane crashes into the ocean shortly after takeoff. The rest of the novel alternates between the survivors and those tasked with rescuing them until we reach the harrowing conclusion.
I loved this book, the pacing was good and kept me interested to the very end. The premise seemed plausible, if a bit of a stretch. The characters were likable and you rooted for each of them. I’ll happily read TJ Newman’s other novel and recommend them to family and friends.

Fast and tense and exactly what I was looking for. I stayed up til midnight to finish ‘Drowning’ because there was no way I could get to sleep without knowing what would happen. Were there parts that went a bit over my head? Yes (I still don’t understand how they could be in the plane on the bottom of the ocean and somehow still have space to breathe). Were there parts where I had to suspend belief in order to accept the narrative? Also yes. But this was still an excellent thriller that kept me gripped from start to finish. Newman clearly knows her stuff and I’ll read anything she writes! Thanks so much to NetGalley for this copy.

3.5 stars, but not deserving of a 4. The last 20% of the book was the best part. Some of it was too unbelievable. It was definitely an easy read.
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to read this as an advanced reader’s copy.

The concept of a commercial airline having an emergency ditch into the ocean is rather terrifying. This story follows a man and his young daughter who are on this faithful plane along with some other passengers. A small group does survive and they find themselves in the plane but sinking to the bottom of the ocean. Their experiences and the rescue attempts made this story a page turner and it is definitely full of suspense. Unfortunately I felt the story has many unrealistic and unbelievable sequences of events and that made me pause and think, seriously? That being said, I did enjoy this quick read and rated it at 4 stars.

I literally could not stop reading this book (like I propped my phone up at the gym so I could keep reading on my kindle app lol)! It was non-stop action from the very first sentence, and didn’t stop until the very end. I read the author’s debut novel, Falling, back in 2022 and loved it, but Drowning was even better! I read it with the kindle app, but I will definitely be buying the hard copy because I loved it so much! I’m so excited for the screen adaption, because it felt like a movie just reading the book (Falling is also getting an adaption!! 🤩). I’m glad I’m not flying anytime soon, though, because Newman’s books make me kinda scared to set foot on a plane 😂😂
Huge thanks to NetGalley and Avid Reader Press/Simon & Schuster for the opportunity to read! Drowning is out now!

I was a huge fan of TJ Newman's debut novel, Falling, when it came out - I shared the book with a friend, who then passed it along to her dad, who then shared with her mom, carrying the copy all the way back to Northern Ireland after a visit to LA. I was thrilled when I heard that her follow-up was another plane-based thriller. As a somewhat anxious flyer (note that I am not afraid of flying, the problem is that I hate being cooped up in a small space) I found Falling comforting in a way. I can say now that Drowning brought about that same feeling - in fact, I read the book while out of town visiting my family and spent the afternoon before my flight home finishing it and I never felt calmer on a 5 hour flight. Ha! Drowning takes the thrilling elements of Falling up another level - instead of a tense situation at the hands of another human being, Captain Will Kent, a group of passengers and crew members are at the mercy of the elements... at the bottom of the ocean. I loved all of the well-fleshed out characters and felt the personalities of everyone coming through on the page. Another absolute five star read. The day I finished this book, I saw TJ Newman on a morning show promoting the book - I love her story and hearing that airline crew members are also fans of her writing, taking photos with her books on flights, etc. Awesome - can't wait for what's next!

Wow, keep you on the edge of your seat intense. The story follows the harrowing experience of a flight that crashes into the ocean just minutes after takeoff in Hawaii. A handful of survivors are left stranded on the sinking plane, and a rescue mission ensues. With limited time, patience and oxygen, the overwhelming anxiety of the situation makes for a fast-paced and emotional read.

HOLY SHIT. I was not prepared for the emotional toll this book would have on me. This is my favorite book of 2023 (so far) and the book to beat. I loved Falling (her debut) and counted down the days until I was able to read this one. Spoiler alert - it did not disappoint. I was on the edge of my seat and I could not read fast enough; more than a few times I would jump ahead a few paragraphs to see if I could find out what happened, and then go back and devour every single word. The way this book made my heart pounding and made me cry was unexpected. I loved every single character (well, maybe not Andy, but my heart did break for him at one point). I have not been able to stop thinking about this book since I finished it. T.J. Newman, has become one of my favorite authors in two books and I cannot wait to see what she puts out next!

This book was so fast paced, entertaining and so much more than I was expecting. Yes it’s about the rescue mission on flight 1421 but it was so much more with a story of friends, family, regret and life. This book will have you on edge (teehee) of your seat!
Thank you net galley and author T.J. Newman for providing me with the e-ARC of this book!

I thought this was a good action thriller. I didn't care for it as much as Falling, but it was still well written and executed. The end was very emotionally powerful and satisfying. I will definitely pick up another book by this author!

I was really into the premise but it felt a bit predictable to me. Would have loved a few for twists and turns along the way. The book seemed well researched which I appreciated.

Be ready to experience the most nerve wrecking and far too real ditching of your life, ditching is the emergency landing of an aircraft on water.
6 MINUTES AFTER TAKEOFF
Coastal flight 1421 departed Honolulu for San Francisco, things start to go wrong. An engine lost, visible flames roaring in the air, parts of plane wings shredding, the back up system failures and ultimate chaos inside the plane.
The plane crashes in the ocean.
On board, Will takes the strong decision to stay inside the plane with twelve passengers and close the doors as jet fuel catches fire and the flight is continuously sinking.
The tension is rising higher than the water, overwhelming emotions and responses of passengers.
16 MINUTES AFTER IMPACT
6.5 hours of oxygen left in the plane. Multiple casualties, many injured and those left are trapped 200 feet below the surface level.
The book gets intense with each second, and the fast pace plot will keep you on the edge with your heart-pounding like you’re on a roller coaster.
Each character is relatable, and their stories will make you connect with them instantly.
Can the passengers survive this dreadful situation and will they make it out alive?
Time is ticking!
Oxygen is running out!
The author has done it again, a sharp action packed plot with a balance of emotions, connections, courage, confessions, fear and hope. The author knows how to keep the readers on their toes. The short chapters were a catalyst to the pace and suspense.

Another intense and thrilling blockbuster book by Newman. Maybe not as good as Falling but close to it. This book puts you on the edge of your seat from the beginning to the end. Don't miss out!
Thanks to the author, the publisher and NetGalley for the copy.

She did it again! This book is so good! Captivating, exciting, literally could not put it down! Terrifying, with a side of heart warming. Definitely not getting on a plane any time soon.
