Looking for an action-packed, adrenaline-fuelled, binge-able read to get you out of a slump? Look no further! Presenting DROWNING, a uniquely claustrophobic, captivating, edge-of-your-seat disaster thriller๐๐ฝ
Page one drops us immediately into the action and the tension and momentum doesnโt let up till the very last page. This book has all the elements required for a perfect thriller, but itโs also so much more: itโs hard-hitting emotionally, with a focus on family dynamics + the kind of character focus and development that thrillers can sometimes lack.
I switched to audio about a quarter of the way in, and the narration of the audiobook was absolutely brilliant.. as someone who is terrified of both flying + large bodies of water, the fact that I was so immersed in the plot that I didnโt really think about this, evidences how entirely gripping this book, and the narration, really is. Newmanโs flight attendant experience shines through in the details and itโs clear a lot of research has gone into writing this book.
I will say I didnโt enjoy this ๐ข๐ด ๐ฎ๐ถ๐ค๐ฉ as FALLINGโ possibly the difference between reading + listening, or the fact that this was predictable in parts, as any plane crash book/movie is. Regardless, both are fantastic books that Iโd highly recommend ๐๐ฝ

Thank you, T.J. Newman, Simon and Schuster Canada and NetGalley for the eArc! This book starts off with a bang, literally! Within minutes of takeoff, Flight 1421 crashes into the ocean! We are now trapped with the passengers as they are forced to make difficult decisions and struggle to survive. This book takes you on a wave of emotions as you quickly turn the pages and as time runs out for this group of characters, who are innocently on this flight hoping to make it to the end of their journey. Perhaps read this while at home, rather than on a flight, ๐. If you loved Falling, you will love Drowning! โญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธโญ๏ธ

Drowning immediately hooked me and I didnโt want to put it down. The characters are realistic and their situation is terrifying. I look forward to what T J Newman comes up with next! What a terrific writer!

T. J. Newman's latest tour de force, "Drowning," propels readers into an electrifying world where fear and suspense converge at thirty thousand feet above the earth.
As a former flight attendant turned New York Times bestselling author, Newman's intimate connection with aviation infuses the narrative with an authentic and chilling edge, leaving one to wonder if she herself harbours a hatred for the skies. Her adeptness at crafting heart-stopping thrillers is unmistakable, and in this, her second novel, she once again has us gripping the edge of our seats, questioning our confidence in flight.

Drowning was a suspenseful and exciting thriller. Once I started reading, I was immediately hooked and could not put it down. I appreciated that the chapters would alternate to different character's viewpoints of the story, it kept me engaged in the book and seemed to make the storyline move faster. Since TJ Newman has a background of previously being a flight attendant, you definitely get a realistic account of what it would be like to be trapped on a crashed plane trapped in the ocean. The only minor comment I would have is that the reader might have to be willing to suspend reality just a little bit, considering the amount of activity that occurs in the plane under water. I had no problem with this, but I can see where some readers might. I binged this book in a few days and then immediately jumped into Falling. So excited to see that Falling is going to be adapted for the screen, and that TJ Newman is writing the screenplay. Thanks to both of these books, TJ Newman has definitely become an auto-read author for me. It's going to be hard to wait until next summer to get another book written by her.

I love T.J. Newman and will read anything he comes out with! Edge of your seat thriller. Highly highly recommend.

This book is a great success, a solid thriller with characters youโll actually be rooting for. New manโs last book left me wanting a whole lot moreโI felt it was a little too plastic and patriotic. However, this one is full of flesh and bone characters delivering real life saving procedures and following flight staff protocols, real underwater welders and rescue workers, real fathers and daughters. I couldnโt put it down, I tore right through it.

I enjoyed this book and I could not put it down. I really enjoyed the characters and the writing was really well done. It made you want to keep reading.

as a flight attendant myself, the first few chapters of this (where all the shit goes down) had me QUAKING in my boots. I enjoyed Newman's first book, and this one seems to be even more liked generally, but i think i actually didn't quite enjoy it as much as Falling. the scenes inside the aircraft were tense and well done, but i didn't realize so much of the book would be about the rescue team and i didn't really care for those parts of the story.

There is nothing like a plane crash book to keep me up at night! I love this authorโs style of writing and I adored the characters in this novel as I did her first.

This was a thrilling read right out of the gate. Once you get over the horror of a plane crash, this story is about a group of strangers coming together to try and solve a seemingly impossible problem. It is a well written story filled with the best and worst of human behavior.
I look forward to reading more by this author.
Thank you to T.J. Newman, Netgalley and Avid Reader Press / Simon & Schuster for the opportunity to read and review this story.

Omg I feel like I can finally breatheโฆ..
This one was SO intense, I felt like I was down there with them. Such a suspenseful and interesting read, it kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the whole book!!

Oh my god. Oh my god. Oh my GOD.
It has been a long old time since I've read a book where I felt genuine anxiety and panic whilst reading. Lemme tell you, this one certainly delivers. It is fast paced, gripping and emotional. I could not put this book down, a solid five stars.

Iโm pretty baffled at Newmanโs expansive subject writing. I know she was a flight attendant but adding underwater welding and engineering to her writing was not what I had expected. Getting past the original tragedy in the first moments of the book took a little bit for me. I had to revisit and push through knowing the good part was past the initial โflight anxietyโ I hold. Iโm glad I did. It was a book of differing characters with some real heart.

Drowning by T.J. Newman
I loved T. J. Newman's first novel, Falling. I was so immersed into it and read it in a day. I expected Drowning to be the same but it sadly wasn't. Though I did love the story, I started it just before/during the whole Titan going down to the Titanic thing. It was erie! So though it didn't live up to Falling to me, I still really thought the story was clever and it did keep my interested. It did not make me scared to fly either ;) I do look forward to T.J.'s next book!

This was a great follow-up to Falling. The time pressure created brilliant tension and the characters were engaging. However I felt it lacked plot to make it as pulse-pounding as โFallingโ.

After reading the debut, Falling, I thought for sure the author wouldnโt be able to top it - boy was I wrong! Drowning is even better if you can believe it!?! This book was so intense, at one point I had to walk away from it and do something else for awhile. From beginning to end this book delivers a non stop, adrenaline fueled, suspenseful story and I canโt wait for the next one!
I thank Netgalley and Avid Reader Press for the opportunity to read and review this book.

This was FANTASTIC!!!! Someone below said there is talk about this becoming a movie stapppp I will be absolutely watching it if it does. I was HOOKED literally 5 pages in, her writing ability and how captivating this story was I found myself constantly rooting for Chris, Will and Shannon. This literally had me on the edge of my seat and I plowed this in a couple of hours. 10/10 Iโm so excited to find a new author, you have a new fan!!! Thank you to NetGalley sending me a copy of this book to read.

Drowning by T.J. Newman was hold on to the edge of your seat, have to finish this book in one sitting good. I loved it. Well done ๐๐ป I discovered T.J. Newman through her first book and thought that her experience being a flight attendant makes her writing and story telling so believing. I feel like maybe I could survive a plane crash now??

I read Falling and absolutely loved it. I finished it in a couple hours so I was so excited to get an ARC of Drowning.
Drowning starts with the engine of Flight 1421 failing as they crash into the ocean.
I enjoyed this book a lot and also flew through it but the pages and pages of technical jargon were a lot for me. I understand the need to describe the technology that will save the passengers but it seemed to just go on and on.
Still looking forward to reading more from this author.
I received this ARC from Net Galley in exchange for an honest review..
