This book was not for me as not into logic puzzles. Yeah NO
Thank you St. Martin's Press for the complimentary copy.
This book is filled with fun puzzles that are sufficiently challenging and entertaining.
I have to say the the electronic format is not the best for this type of book. I would recommend getting a physical copy of the book if you want to get the most out of your mystery-solving experience!
My ten-year-old and I love to solve Murdle puzzles! This was a little confusing to get through on Kindle, but I'm sure the physical version is loads more fun and easier to navigate. Great variety of puzzles. This is something I'll keep in my to gift my murder mystery/puzzle-loving in-laws!
Murdle is a logic grid puzzle book where you’re playing as “Deductive Logico” solving murders via the puzzles. This one is made up of suspect, location, weapon and motive to go with the murder mystery theme and in the end you have to declare who did it, where, how and why! Almost like a fun combination of Clue (or Cluedo) and logic puzzles.
The book is made up of puzzles from their website, where, like Wordle, there is a daily puzzle to solve. The interactivity of the website adds a cool layer to the whole thing as well. If you’re not sure how it all works, you can check out their website which will make you wanna try more of their puzzles.
What’s unique about Murdle is that they take the classic logic grid puzzle but also add another layer. For example, you might need to figure out who’s lying or solve a cipher to fully solve a puzzle. There’s also further details about each of the suspects/locations/weapons that you’ll have to check against as you’re going through the clues.
I also really appreciate that there are hints provided in the back of the book since that means that you don’t have to spoil the whole answer if you’re stuck on a puzzle.
I liked the level of difficulty this set of puzzles provided; the difficulty increases in each section. Even though I’m super familiar with puzzles of this kind, and puzzles in general, there were some that stumped me or ones that I solved wrong.
One advice I have though is to get this book in physical format since you’re gonna wanna flip the pages back and forth and really write and erase things.
Overall a very fun way to pass the time and a good twist on logic grid puzzles!
Thank you to St Martin's Press and NetGalley for the eARC!
Oh my this was such a fun book! I enjoyed all the different puzzles it has. It is one that I know many people will enjoy.
MURDLE is quite possibly the coolest and most fun I have had with logic puzzles in a while. It activates my inner J.B. Fletcher as my mind compiles the clues and sleuths out the answers. The various levels of intrigue allow the amateur sleuth in us all to develop into a top-notch arm-chair detective. I cannot think of a better way to spend a rainy, sunny, and/or any day than with a little crime-solving.
I have absolutely adored Murdle since the website's early days, and I absolutely love having it in book form!! I really like that the puzzles increase in difficulty throughout the book! Murdle: Volume 1 is an absolute winner in my logic puzzle loving heart, and I look forward to Volumes 2 and 3!
Out in paperback!
I didn't know about Murdle until I saw friends' reviews and really want to give it a try. I love word games and puzzles and the idea of cracking a case is a bonus for a mystery fan like myself.
Using logic and deduction to solve the mysteries, SUSPECTS, WEAPONS, and LOCATIONS are provided and also a grid notepad. Two characters Deductive Logico and Inspector Irratino will guide you through the process. Some clues are in codes and need to be decoded. These are very clever how the information is presented. There are 100 scenarios ranging from "Elementary" to "Impossible" difficulty. What a fun and exciting concept!
I also found an online edition (https://murdle.com/) that is easier to play than on a tablet. Through my PC I can use a notepad on the same page without swiping back and forth. I'm happy to see that this is out as a paperback and probably the best way to play! This will make an awesome gift, getting this for a friend who will be traveling.
For Netgalley reviewers if you're stuck.
I will admit that I struggled so much at first. I received this advance reader's copy through Netgalley and downloaded it in a Kindle format. All graphics were in black "legos" looking blocks and gray boxes with absolutely nothing written. I had no idea how this works and wonder how anyone thought this was fun. 😗 So, if you received ARC, you'll have to read it on Netgalley Shelf app.
This book is full of murder mystery puzzles that are so fun to play! I love logic puzzles and my family plays a bunch of the -le games every day. It’s a great way to exercise that brain of yours! The Murdle games remind me of the logic puzzles my teacher used to give us in elementary school, and I can’t get enough!
This is a really interesting idea, turning a number of logic puzzles into a series of short mysteries. And the logic puzzles are already built into the book which is wonderful, if you have the print book.
Four stars (printed book)
This book comes out June 13, 2023

Opinions are my own
I love how quirky this is! I loved doing logic puzzles like these when I was much younger. The theme is carried throughout the book. Detective Logico is trying to promote his new book, but it seems that murder greets him everywhere he goes. Each puzzle gets harder as you progress. The organization is wonderful. Each vignette has charts detailing suspects, weapons, rooms, and motives. A grid with matching symbols arrives at the end to use. This is a fun way to pass the time!
Murdle is a logic-based puzzle game that revolves around Deductive Logico and the murders he solves. You are given a set of suspects, locations, weapons, and clues and have to help Logico figure out the murderer using logic. It’s like a game of Clue!
The book is a collection of 100 different puzzles to solve, increasing in difficulty as you continue on. Though you can technically do them in any order you want (thereby choosing the difficulty level you want), there is an overall story that comes together as you go through the puzzles in order. This adds a full literary element to it that makes it more than just a book of puzzles.
My only complaint is that I had to create my own grid in order to jot down notes and figure out the puzzles. This could be simply a result of having a digital advanced copy - perhaps the finished book does include the grid! But, other than that, I had an absolute blast going through and solving these puzzles. The situations are outrageous which gives you a good few laughs as you’re going through.
Murdle: Volume 1 by G. T. Karber contains 100 tricky mystery puzzles that are perfect for the Nancy Drew wannabes, students of Sherlock Holmes, deductionists, puzzle fans & crime & mystery aficionados. If you mix a cross logic puzzle with a mystery novel & a solo game of Clue, then you get Murdle! It’s an interesting whodunnit puzzle game that is sure to keep you entertained.
I love nonograms & have done them for years & these challenged me! I was working with an e-book copy & I think it would’ve been easier to do with a physical copy, but still so much fun! This a great book for entertainment that is sure to give your brain a workout!
I love the increased difficulty along with the increase of clues & need for deduction with the potential of suspects’ lies as the book went along. There was also a hints section before the answer key in case one ever gets stuck on one.
If anyone is looking for a gift for mystery lovers, puzzle enthusiasts &/or amateur detectives, Murdle: Volume 1 is a great recommendation!
Massive thanks to NetGalley & St. Martin’s Griffin for the free arc, which I voluntarily read & reviewed.
I will post this to my social media & Amazon this week & add links once I do.
Calling all those who love to read mysteries and/or solve logic puzzles! Why not try your hand at some of the challenges in this book? There are 100 puzzles to keep you busy.
Following a helpful introduction, there are challenges of varying levels of difficulty. They are definitely fun to solve.
One quibble: a lot of these puzzles need the detective/reader to make a logic grid and then add information to it. I would have loved if the grids had been included in the book as is the case when buying many logic puzzle books.
That said, this book will entertain readers for hours. They will also sharpen their deductive skills. Oh…for those who love these, volume two is coming this fall.
Many thanks to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for this title. All opinions are my own.

If you like logic puzzles, then this is the book for you. You use deductive reasoning and work through solving each crime. They start easy and get more and more complex as you advance through the book.
The first (Elementary) puzzles have three elements: Suspect, Location, and Weapon. Each of those are given a description, and then clues are presented along with a grid to narrow down to answer the questions of "who?" "what?" and "where?"
As you advance to Occult Medium there are the addition of Statements from the suspects. The murderer will always lie and the other suspects will always tell the truth. That throws another wrench into your ability to solve the mysteries.
Hard Boiled puzzles come next, and these add motive or "why?" to the grid, making it a bit more complicated to narrow things down.
Finally, we have Impossible puzzles. These combine the four layer grid with the witness statements where the murderer is lying. Fortunately, there are solutions included at the end, but give yourself some credit and take the time to try to figure them out--you're smarter than you think!
Fans of games like Clue or the app Cross Logic will enjoy this one. It stretches the brain and the imagination both.
I had originally received an electronic copy of this book from the publisher, but it was difficult to tell how fun or difficult these puzzles would be in that medium. The paper copy is much easier to turn back and forth between the statements, profiles, and the grid and of course, to make and erase and remake marks on the grid to narrow down the answers to the questions.
This would make a really fun gift for the puzzle lovers in your life (or yourself) as it's a complete change up from the run of the mill crosswords, word finds, or sudoku.
Happy Pub Day to Murdle Vol. 1! It took me awhile to get through, but only because I was pacing myself because I didn't want to get through it too fast. For those not familiar, there's a daily murder mystery (a logic game) on the murdle website, in the style of wordle. We work with Detective Logico and follow along with his cases individually- I recommend a paper copy unless you have one of those kindles where you can write on pages, so you can fill out the grids- and there's an ongoing storyline throughout the whole book. Overall, lots of fun- I look forward to passing a lot of time with the following volumes!
I’ll sum this up in one word- ADDICTIVE!! I picked it up saying I would do a few before I got stuff done around the house - 25 puzzles solved later 🤣 I had to force myself to put the book down otherwise I would have spent the entire day doing them.
My biggest complaint is this book is NOT kindle friendly. I had to constantly bookmark back and forth to view exhibits, look at clues, check if I was right, etc. I did complete the book entirely on my kindle, but it was way more challenging and took me a lot longer to get through.
For the few I did get wrong, I wish it broke the problems down step by step, so I could figure out where I went wrong! In the beginning, they teach you a chart format to help solve the problems, but because I don’t listen to rules- I made up my own way of marking things down. I used a pen for facts and pencil to mark guesses, so I could erase them if it was wrong. However, if you have a whiteboard- that would be super helpful!
The lying statements I found the hardest. Overall my biggest tip for you is to read ALL the details and don’t assume a problem is like a previous one.
Problems 46 & 50- the symbols in exhibit B wernt showing up, so I read the hint and googled the symbols. Not sure if it is because it is an ARC or a kindle glitch, so wanted to note it!
Murdle: Volume 1 by G.T. Karber is touted as 100 Elementary to Impossible Mysteries to Solve Using Logic, Skill, and the Power of Deduction.
First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher St. Martin’s Press and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
My Synopsis and Opinions:
Basically, the book is a collection of logic puzzles, all dealing with mysteries/crimes.
With each case, you "join" Deductive Logico to investigate the crime and find out the the crime, perpetrator, location, etc...
Well, first....I will be buying a hard-copy of this book, because I LOVE logic problems.
That leads me to my first problem with this book. You cannot work on these puzzles with an e-reader. I did a few of them, but used my computer to read the puzzles, and had a pad of paper and a pen beside me to solve them.
Note that there are 4 sections to the book, with different degrees of difficulty ranging from "Elementary" to "Impossible". Then there is a Hint section for each puzzle, and then finally a section with the Solutions. These last two sections, of course, don't work too easily on an e-reader.
However, there are a lot of illustrations, charts, and maps, and interesting puzzles....so I will recommend this book (hard-copy only), and I will check out the puzzles one-line!
As a lover of Clue and an active armchair detective, I was SO excited when I heard about Murdle!
Murdle includes 100 logic puzzles ranging in difficulty level. I really enjoyed how at the beginning of the book they walk through one with you to help break it down. Also, at the beginning of each difficulty level they introduce new keys and elements which is nice.
Everything is set up with graphics and cards and it makes it very easy to follow along and keep track of everything. I solved a few and now I’m trying to wait for my print copy to do more!
A quick note: I will say the electronic version was not the easiest to work with but I know those are all frustrations that will go away once I get my physical copy.
Thank you to St Martin’s Press and Netgalley for my early review copy in exchange for an honest review!
I think book will be lots of fun in paperback form!
Thank to St. Martins and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
