This is a gripping mystery that will hold your interest throughout. A multi-millionaire hires freelance journalist Ben Copperfield to find his missing grandchild. And he doesn't know the mother's name. We are introduced to a world of horses, dogs, and travelers that will keep the reader entertained and guessing.

I received a free copy of this book from Severn House via Netgalley. My review is voluntary and the opinions expressed are my own.

This was a brilliant book. I just connected with this story from the very first page. I loved the pace of this book as there was never a dull moment. It was so interesting, and the characters were so different and vivid. It was brilliant to have such an array of different types of characters that certainly made for a great story. I loved how there were characters I loved to hate. My only wish was I wished there was more horse racing as I love all books horsey. This book certainly kept me entertained. It definitely had my pulse racing. It ending certainly had me at the edge of my seat. This book is extremely difficult to put down. If you love horse racing, then this book is definitely a must-read. It was that good and was only a hare's breath away from full marks.

So much praise goes out to the author and publishers for creating such an exciting story. I can't wait to read more from this wonderful author.

A fast paced exciting thriller from Lyndon Stacey. The reader follows Ben and his dog Mouse as they follow an estranged son following a chance encounter. The search brings up all sorts of bad blood and shocking discoveries. You learn a bit about a different way of life from the travelling community to the racing stables. Highly recommended reading with excitement from start to finish.

When freelance journalist Ben Copperfield hands his business card to a woman whose runaway horse he's helped recapture, he couldn't possibly predict the events that are triggered by this simple gesture. She is the wife of multi-millionaire horse owner and businessman Neville Manning. Manning has everything money could buy, but money can't solve his current problem. He's dying and after the tragic death of his only child, there's no one he's willing to leave his business to. Manning has just one hope left: a grandchild, whose mother's name he doesn't even know. Ben has a reputation for solving impossible problems, and Manning's convinced he'll be able to track the child down. Ben accepts the challenge and sets out to find this mystery grandchild. But little does he know exactly what he’s getting in to
This is the first book I’ve read by the author & it won’t be the last. I was drawn to it as I enjoy other books set in the world of horses their owners & racing. I thoroughly enjoyed the book & my interest was held from cover to cover. The characters had depth & the pace was good. I really liked Ben who was tenacious & didn’t give up, there were twists & turns & all ends were tied up. Whilst not as good as some others of its genre it was a good read, which I recommend
My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

This is a very good thriller with excellent characterisation and a straightforward piece of plotting, centred around dogs, horses and the travelling community. I liked the character of Ben, a free lance journalist hired to look for the grandson of a wealthy man who is dying from cancer. The pace is steady throughout and the ending was neatly wrapped up. This would make a good holiday read. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Severn House Publishers for an advance copy of Bad Blood, a stand-alone thriller set in Dorset and Yorkshire.

Freelance journalist Ben Copperfield helps Sarah Manning with a runaway horse and thinks nothing of it, so he is surprised when her husband Neville, a dying multimillionaire asks him to do a job for him. Neville’s son Hayden died in an accident leaving him without an heir unless Ben can trace a potential grandchild. Neville remembers a young woman visiting sixteen years ago, saying that she was pregnant with Hayden’s child and that’s who he wants Ben to find.

I quite enjoyed Bad Blood, which is a straightforward thriller with plenty of different strands, because Ben is not the only one hunting this elusive grandchild. The novel is told entirely from Ben’s point of view, so the reader knows what he does. Some of his deductions are easy to guess, others not so much, but the author manages to ask enough questions and insert sufficient action to keep the reader turning the pages.

To me, there is a strong feel of early Dick Francis in this novel. The horses obviously, but also the old fashioned violence and the threats to stop the investigation, although this latter comes from social media, so slightly less old fashioned, but not by much as it’s hardly cutting edge, and, of course, the plucky hero who refuses to give up.

The plotting is straightforward. Ben gets all the information he needs quickly and is soon off to Yorkshire in search of the young woman and her child. I don’t suppose it’s designed to be realistic, because it seems to me that it was all too easy to come by. Once he gets to Yorkshire in search of the elusive target it all kicks off, threats and violence that fails miserably at stopping him, culminating in a showdown in Dorset. The motive behind it all is a bit weird, but that’s fiction.

Bad Blood is a solid read.
