Eliza and her husband are happy and have a baby boy Alfie. But how well does Eliza truly know her husband. With a blitz not far away she will need support. A wonderful saga with endearing characters.
Many thanx to NetGalley, the author and the publisher for allowing me to read and review this book.
I have read many of this author's books and enjoyed them all but this book just made the reading of it very stodgy! The conversations by the characters were not as I would expected them to be and rather like those having attended a high priced private school!! This really made, for me, a very slow and stilted read!
The story line was good but the writing was not as I know June Francis! Hard to finish but did it....just1
Many war time dramas focus on romance, loss, longing and deprivation but here is one which also has a crime drama element. Eliza is a lovely, if also rather naïve girl who falls into motherhood. The book is set in Wales and Liverpool and the characters are as you would expect from these distinct regions. A book to pass the time.
I enjoyed this one. Full of emotion and angst. I’ve read a few on June’s books in the past as my mum had a few in her collection. Always a good read. This was another war-time family saga. Very good. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.
Set in Wales and Liverpool, this wartime family saga is a good read. There are plenty of emotions set within the lives of the characters. Makes for a very good read, 5 stars.
Thanks to Netgalley and publisher for this ARC
I really enjoyed this book by June Francis, i liked the storyline and characters and few twists alongbthe way.
Finished this last night. It is a lovely heart warming story that centres around Eliza a young woman recently widowed with a young baby. She is horrified to find out that her rushed marriage was a sham and that now someone means to harm her baby. With the help of others she manages to get on with her life and hopefully to find out her is her threat and why.
I really enjoyed reading this book.
Thank you for the chance to read this ARC in return for my honest opinion
I had not read any books by this author before and to be honest I really didn’t enjoy this one very much but having started it I wanted to know how it would pan out in the end.
I found it very contrived - Eliza had married a chap called Bryn Jones - I won’t provide spoilers in this review but she found he had been less than honest and left her with a son. She then met various people called Jones all who seemed to be related to Bryn in some way which for me stretched credibility. After all Jones is a common name in Wales and presumably the Liverpool area where many people would have come from North Wales.
I found the style of writing difficult as well - some was written in long periods of prose then it would revert back to the story with periods of personal interaction.
Sadly for me it was just a strangely written book and would not encourage me to read others by this author even though it is easy to find her books are popular.
The book spans a period from the Liverpool Blitz to 1946 so some periods of time are rushed while others are treated much more leisurely.
Thank you again
Heartwarming, wartime drama. Good characters and an interesting storyline, set in Liverpool and Wales.
Eliza Jones wakens into a world of uncertainty, so many unanswered questions!
She has been caught in the middle of an attack during the blitz and on waking has amnesia. Then her baby is kidnapped.
The local policeman Jack Molyneux becomes very useful during the story. There is plenty going on ,
I found it confusing to keep trail of everyone as so many had the surname Jones.
