What a great resource for brush calligraphy! I've taught myself the basics using online tutorials and I would have loved to have this book when I was starting out. It gives the foundation of basic letters which is essential. It also gives lots of ideas for projects or ways of applying the knowledge. Very satisfied with this book!
Beautiful book and great primer to getting more into brush calligraphy. Will reference it again in the future.
I have been envious of people who can create beautiful calligraphy on social media. I have tried to watch and copy those videos, but it isn't easy when they go too fast. This book really went into detail and explained how to do the letters slowly. I will be purchasing this book in print once it is released.
Thank you to Stackfield Books, Roman and Little and #NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The Brush Pen Calligraphy by Hamane Higashi is a great lettering book. I like the showing a different lettering styles and well as some practice pages. This is an excellent book for beginners and immediate lettering. It is a lot of information, however, it is needed for this book. I also like the idea of how he shows you how to style your lettering in a quote, poster, etc.

I am working on learning hand lettering for my decorative planner and journal. This book not only teaches you how to do letters but phrases. Great for practical samples of when and how to use the knowledge. I love that it had multiple fonts to practice. Would it come with more practice pages?

An enjoyable set of basics for brush calligraphy.
This book includes step-by-step instructions on how to write letters and numbers using brush pens. You also get to see multiple exemplars of different styles of modern calligraphy and ways to personalize your work.
Overall, this is a good book for learning the basics and really getting to see the steps necessary to form all the letters and have them actually look good and consistent.
This is a great workbook for learning brush pen calligraphy! I will definitely be purchasing the print version when it is released. I do not have naturally pretty handwriting, but I’m thinking this will help so much, as it really takes you back to the basics of writing. Whether you’re a novice or an expert, I think this would be great for anyone who enjoys calligraphy writing. Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review.
I loved this book and used it a lot in my bullet journal. It’s great for helping and learning all kind of calligraphy. I was hoping there were more !
A great introductory book for Calligraphy. Perfect for beginners or those returning to the craft. Contains lots of practice lines and templates as well as ideas for presentation.
This book was extremely beautiful and had lots of details regarding calligraphy. Ultimately as a total beginner, it was a tad overwhelming for someone learning. I loved the tips, but I was too new to jump in straight away.
Thank you to NetGalley and to the publisher for this arc in exchange for an honest review.
I've tried a few calligraphy books because I do some crafting and want to improve my lettering. This is one of the best ones I've read. The objective of this book is to give step by step instructions for using brush pens to create and customize your own craft projects.
The book starts off with the basics, giving tips on the best posture to have while writing and how best to hold the pen. Next, it discusses assorted styles of calligraphy and then has guide sheets to help you practice each lettering style. Then, it gives examples and ideas for different DIY calligraphy projects such as signs, wedding invitations, and even a ribbon for a bouquet of flowers.
It was a thorough, and thoroughly enjoyable, "how to" for modern calligraphy. Thank you to NetGalley and Stackpole Books for the advance review copy of the book. I enjoyed reading it.
Brush Pen Calligraphy is full of super aesthetically pleasing photos that showcase different ways to use calligraphy in your every day life from gifts to invitations. After establishing possible why's, this book jumps straight into different calligraphy fonts and how to achieve them using suggested materials. This book is complete with a set up suggestion and a page that focuses on individual brush strokes.
This book seems so useful and thorough in teaching calligraphy and emphasizing that it is not as easy as the online videos make it seem. By including practice pages this book is emphasizing the importance of practice which is amazing.
Overall I think this is a great book for beginners looking to learn brush pen calligraphy from picking up the pen for the first time until learning to put their own twist on it.
This was full of pictures to help you follow along. Besides teaching you the basics of calligraphy it had helpful hints and additional ideas to use your newfound skills with diy like wedding invitation, welcome board, on ribbons for floral bouquets etc.
This was a great book for practicing hand lettering. I think I would love a physical copy. As someone who is trying to hand letter all of my save the dates and wedding invitations, this was definitely a helpful guide!
Some of the letters are stylized more than others and perhaps why the author encourages trying direction differences. The guide section is considerably shorter than other tutorials, but it can be replicated independently. I liked that the author also emphasizes different tools for different results. Although six different styles are represented, they are close with limited differences. I found the casual style most simple and combining multiple styles the most fun and in keeping with modern brush lettering. The photos are smaller than expected, although I appreciated the section on pen holding. Instructing using this medium is complex and may be more suited for reference.
Hamane Higashi, a calligraphy artist and teacher shows us step by step how to create lettering with brush pens.
With this book you will learn six different lettering styles, ideas on how to personalize them, and practice sheets to perfect your craft.. Plenty of project ideas for cards, invitations, welcome boards, bullet journaling, and even gift wrap. The sky is the limit on all the ways you can use these tools for your own projects. I love how simple and easy to follow these instructions are which will allow anyone to master this beautiful writing.
Thanks to NetGalley for allowing me to read this book for an honest review.
