Grace Holloway prefers to live a quiet life hidden away in in Rock Island, Maine, the isolation it offers brings her a sense of peace she needs for her basic survival. She can come and go as she pleases, mostly undetected. The less people know, the safer things will be for her... that is until local girls start disappearing.
The pages of The Vanishing Hour read like scenes from a thriller movie, one that I simply couldn't get enough of...it was a spellbinding addiction! As we meet our heroine we find her living hidden away in small town Maine, running an inn. She keeps to herself, runs her business, and keeps her secrets safely hidden... that is until girls start to go missing and danger comes knocking at her door. History is repeating itself and she wants no part of it... even though it wants a part of her!
This was my first read by this author and I have to say The Vanishing Hour did not disappoint, it's well penned words and attention grabbing story line had me fully invested throughout. Once I started this one I couldn't put it down! Highly recommend you take a chance on this one, it's pages hold a story that is bound to keep you teetering on the edge of your seat and second guessing yourself the whole way through!!
I requested an advanced copy of this title from the publisher, and I am voluntarily leaving my honest and unbiased opinion.
Kira’s daughter, Brooke, is missing. Kira is not going to stop looking for her….ever. She’s not the first girl to go missing, and now there are other people that are missing as well.
Aden, a divorced father, has just found out that his father is missing and goes to Rock Harbor to find him. His disappearance has everyone wondering if something sinister is going on. How could his disappearance be related to the missing girls? Is it related at all?
This book is told from different points of view, which I love. I love being able to get into the minds of different characters. It helps me feel more connected to them.
I did enjoy the book. I wanted to keep reading to see how it ended. The ending was pretty easy to guess though, for the most part. I love Seraphina Nova Glass and I will continue to read her books.
Thank you to netgalley and Harlequin trade Publishing/Graydon House for the digital arc in exchange for an honest review.
This was a thriller that kept me interested until the end! It was an easy read and a great page-turner. The characters were well-developed, and I was surprised by the ending. I did not find this predictable at all!
This is an intense read and could be triggering for some. That being said, Seraphina Nova Glass unfurled this tale masterfully. In a small town, Grace Holloway runs the local bed and breakfast while doing everything she can to stay invisible. The terrors of her past have never left her, and every shadow brings a threat with it.
However, when girls that closely resemble her at the age she was taken start going missing, and two end up dead, Grace finds herself caught in the middle. She becomes determined to step out of the shadows and bring the man who took her to justice and hopefully save the life of the most recently kidnapped girl before it's too late.
This is my first book by this author, and I have to say I was disappointed. I should have finished this over the weekend but kept finding myself setting it aside.
Told from multiple POVs, I sometimes had difficulty keeping the characters straight and didn’t make an emotional connection with any of them. Grace Holloway is a recluse after escaping from a man who kidnapped her and kept her locked up. But now two more girls, who looked a lot like Grace, have disappeared. Grace knows she must provide some information that may help find the kidnapper. Aden, whose father is missing rents a room at Grace’s inn. The other primary protagonist is Kira, whose nineteen-year-old daughter is missing. These three characters come together to solve the mystery of all these missing people.
I did enjoy how the author slowly brought together multiple threads to finally reveal how entangled they are. I thought a couple of the secondary characters actually had more interesting personalities than did the major players (i.e., Vinny and Blake). But the ending just did not work for me at all.
I LOVE this Author's style of writing, I have read and own all of her books. Seraphina lures you in and pulls you in and makes you binge until you simply have to stop. She is a gifted storyteller and I have the uttmost praise and love for her books!
Told from 3 seemingly unconnected POV’s, these lives are thrown together to form an unlikely ally in looking for the truth. Lots of twists and turns, keeps you guessing and wanting to keep reading way past your bedtime!
Grace keeps to herself, basically hiding from the outside world and managing an inn. Secrets from her past are brought to light as she’s finds similarities between disappearing girls and what happened to her.
Kira’s daughter Brooke has been missing for weeks and she is on her own mission to find her since the police have no leads.
Aden has returned to his hometown because his father is missing.
Great writing style. Likable characters. You can feel the emotions of the mother of the missing girl as she makes it her mission to find her daughter. Great read!!
I am a huge fan of Glass but this seemed unlike her other books. There was a lot of character POV and backstory to delve into and I felt it really drew away from the plot. By the time the plot got going, I was already a bit bored. I loved the setting, though!
I’ll continue to read this authors books, she’s fantastic but this definitely won’t hit my favorite list.
I’ve read several books by Seraphina Nova Glass and The Vanishing Hour is very different from her other books. The other books I’ve read by this author (my favorite was On a Quiet Street) are much more in the domestic suspense side of psychological thrillers, while The Vanishing Hour is more of a gritty hometown mystery. Her other books are to me more about the characters, while this is truly about the mystery and the town itself. None of the characters have much of a growth arc, and they are more there for different perspectives to build the story.
Told from three alternating narrators, The Vanishing Hour tells the story of missing girls in the small town of Rock Harbor, Maine. Grace narrowly escaped death years ago at the hands of the man who kidnapped her. Now she runs a small inn and keeps to herself as much as possible.
A local man who moved away named Aden shows up at the inn in the off-season because his father Martin has gone missing and he has returned home to help with the search. Grace is thrown by the arrival of Aden, disrupting her much-coveted solitude. Still, she finds his company more engaging than she expects. Meanwhile Kira’s daughter Brooke has gone missing as well, and a search into her disappearance brings up some troubling secrets that make it clear Kira didn’t know her daughter at all.
Soon it becomes clear that other girls have gone missing. What is really going on in Rock Harbor? Are the disappearances connected, and how do they relate to Grace’s traumatic past?
I read this as a buddy read with my friend Carrie and we both struggled a bit in the first half to keep the characters and storylines straight. However, towards the middle of the book the stories merge together and the book races towards the finish. The characters themselves don’t show a ton of growth throughout the book, but the reader’s opinion of them may change as more twisted secrets and hidden truths come to light. The stories each serve an important role in understanding the broader scope of what is happening in Rock Harbor. The ending was twisted and satisfying.
This is a bit different from other books I’ve read by this author, and felt more mystery/thriller than domestic suspense. Compelling and engaging!
Before I mention the book, how about that cover? It grabbed my attention and screamed R E A D M E!!! Am I right? I could not say no.
This was a rollercoaster of a ride. A mother searching for her missing daughter. A son searching for his missing father. A previously abducted survivor trying to keep under the radar. Could they all be related? Of course they could be when you are reading a thriller. But are they in this thriller? There is no shortage of suspects in this one. It is a very slow burn that is quite dark and disturbing. I’d say it was both a little predictable but had a few twists I did not see coming.
It is expertly plotted and well written, keeping all the plotlines in check and not leaving any of them dangling. While I did pick up on what was going on, there was enough doubt to make me continue to second guess my thoughts. As much as I am not a fan of a really slow burn, this one was a five star read for me through most of the book, but the end was a little flat. I won’t go into any detail on this, but I had a moment of huh. But even with that, I enjoyed the read and it did not change my overall thoughts.
I liked the POV characters. I accepted the slow pace because I was invested in the characters and the story. It is a little heavier than your typical beach read, but worth your time if you love slow burn suspense.
Fast-paced thriller with multiple POVs. The characters were confusing initially, but easy to differentiate later in the book. Kira is a desperate mother searching for her missing daughter. Aden is a middle-aged man searching for his missing 70 year old father, and Grace is a young woman who escaped a kidnapper many years ago. Hard to think they have something in common, but they each hold vital information in finding the missing.
3.5 stars rounded to 4, overall a solid thriller. I found some of the plot confusing, but overall enjoyed reading.
thank you NetGalley for this arc, all opinions are my own.
Seraphina can write anything and I’m going to read it. She knows how to write a thriller!! This book kept me guessing and was so fast paced and fun!
This was hands down one of the best thrillers I've read. It had so many twists and turns to keep you turning the pages and holding your breath.
From page one to the twisted ending you will hold on. It's so good. Good characters for the most part and the writing is spot on.
Thank you to the publisher and netgalley for this arc.
Loved the concept, story, and twists. Something was just missing in the execution/writing style. Character development felt a little clunky.
Didn’t end up loving this one for those reasons, but would read something else by this writer.
The Vanishing Hour by Serephina Nova Glass was a story told from multiple points of view about a young adult woman and older man who went missing around the same time in a bad part of town. The story brings twists and turns as the young woman's mother was in desperate search for her daughter and what she discovered along the way. This book was different from others with the multiple character narration as the details of both disappearance unfolded and tied to other missing people cases in the town. I enjoy the character development and character relationships built in the writing. This story kept me guessing for the majority of the book.
🤯🤯🤯🤯.5
“The Vanishing Hour” is my first exposure to the author’s work and I’m eager to read more! From what other reviewers are saying, this book is nothing like her last thriller “On a Quiet Street”. I didn’t have any expectations, so it may be the reason I enjoyed this dark and gritty thriller more than some readers!
Everyone in Rock Harbor knows that nothing good happens on Hemlock Lane, but the danger spikes during the vanishing hour. Four young women and two elderly men have vanished in Rock Harbor over the years.
Brooke is still missing. Grace escaped before her life was brutally ended like the other girls. One of the elderly men is murdered but Martin is still missing. And police are desperate to figure out what these men and women have in common.
Three main characters narrate the story. Their separate accounts cleverly begin to mesh as they work together searching for Brooke and Martin.
Grace is the reclusive manager of a local inn and the only survivor of the abductor.
Kira is Brooke’s mother and is desperate to find her daughter. She is verifying every lead the police have followed and alibi they’ve checked. And it leads her to new information.
Aden’s father is missing so he returns to his hometown to help in the search.
The tale holds a steady pace for most of the book, then quickly increases as the storylines cleverly intertwine. The last several chapters are intense as the author reveals twists I never imagined!
Huge thanks to HTP Books and Graydon House for providing this complimentary ARC through NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

There are more than the norm number of people disappearing in Rock Harbor.
Grace was one of those people who escaped & now lives a very private life.
Grace is pulled back to the drama when she connects with others who are missing family members, some that resemble her.
Is her capter still kidnapping girls?

Sadly, this was a flop for me. I read to the end because it was for a group buddy read. I will say that most of the group liked it, except for the ending. No one was on board.
Thank you to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing this ebook for me to read and review.

I feel like the synopsis is a little misleading. It’s not really about Grace. She’s a lot to do with it. But not much.
I wasn’t sure at first where this story was going. It took me a bit to get into it.
I loved the strength of the two characters Kira and Aden. They were two i really rooted for. I liked Grace but i also wished for more character development for her.
I think the mystery in this was kind of obvious. I figured it out. I did question a couple red herrings but still had it pegged.
I think the ending kind fizzled out for me.
It was an interesting read but wasn’t entirely surprising either.
I love that Grace finds the strength in herself to kick some ass, I definitely did not see that coming! I also loved that there is a huge momma bear vibe going on here and it turns out she is right and is integral to solving the case! This was a great ride and surprise, surprise it's an "upstanding" member of the community that is the bad guy. Was it justice or was it vengeance? Who's to say, that's the question!

This was my first Seraphina Nova Glass novel, and it won't be my last! I was hooked after reading the first chapter and couldn't put this book down! The Vanishing Hour takes place in Rock Harbor, Maine and follows the stories of three different characters: Kira, Grace and Aden. Kira is the mother of a missing 17-year old teenager named Brooke. Grace is the housekeeper of a local bed and breakfast with a traumatic past and Aden returns home to help his family in their search for his missing father. I loved reading each of the character's stories and you will be shocked at how all three disappearances are all intertwined. You definitely need to get your hands on this twisty and suspenseful book!
Thank you Seraphina Nova Glass, Harlequin Trade Publishing, Graydon House and NetGalley for the ARC and opportunity to leave a review! Looking forward to reading more from Seraphina! #TheVanishingHour #NetGalley
