Seraphina Nova Glass does a fantastic job of creating suspense. She has a knack for making the reader question each persons motives and not trust anyone. This story was told from 3 POV's. Overall, I think it might have been better with less POV's because this added some confusion at times.
This book is narrated from three points of view: Kira, whose daughter has been missing for several weeks from the family’s favorite coastal vacation town, Rock Harbor, Maine; Aden, whose father just disappeared without a trace from the same town; and Grace, a reclusive bed and breakfast manager whose past has left her distrustful and troubled. These three people’s stories collide as they all seek the truth about their lives and what’s going on around them.
And the conclusion to the main mystery is quite a big explosion of surprise. There were some red herrings thrown in, so there were some alternatives that could’ve made sense. But the actual answer was pretty intense and really knocked my socks off. And the final, final conclusion is also very interesting. I can’t say too much, but it falls into place really well.
I really liked all three main characters, although Kira could be a little intense. But I guess I would be too if my daughter was missing and I was getting desperate to find her, feeling like everyone was giving up. Grace and Aden were worth rooting for, both traumatized by events, and trying to keep things together.
Overall this is another winner from Seraphina Nova Glass. I’ve read previous books by her and will continue to read more by her. She’s clearly very talented and can craft great stories.
After numerous times of having to pick this one up, only to walk away in favor of something else, did I realize it just was not for me.
To begin with, the synopsis is misleading. This story is not about Grace and her secrets alone. No, this story involves Grace, as well as two others, all of whom have something to say, or at least that seems that way as they all do get a say in the narration. And while multiple points of view usually a problem for me, this one just came across as choppy and too over the top to be believable. It got to the point that I began skipping ahead, waiting for the story to either grab my attention or come back down to reality (I mean, all of these disappearances going on, and there is barely any mention of the police? Instead, it comes down to random people solving the mystery).
Judging by the high number of positive reviews that I have seen for this book, it is clear that I am in the majority with my thoughts on this one, so if the synopsis appeals to you, I would recommend giving it a shot. You might enjoy it more than I did.
DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.
I really enjoyed this one and it kept me interested from start to finish. I will be reading more of this author.
I love a good thriller. And this one was amazing. Multiple POV’s always add so many layers to the story especially with thrillers. At different points I was thinking “ok I definitely know who did it” and then the next persons POV would happen and I was like “well nevermind!”
I blasted through the last 30% needing to know what happened. I couldn’t believe it! That’s what I really love the most about this book is that the twist was SO unexpected. A great summer read for sure!
I received this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Thank you to Netgalley and Seraphina Nova Glass for the honor of reading this book!
The Vanishing Hour was a book that held my attention from start to finish. I loved how the author kept me on my toes guess what was happening through out the whole book. The book was fast paced and easy to read which made it easy to follow along and get into. I like how the author showed how each character handled their emotions in their own unique way. This book has lots of feelings and drama that anyone going through a similar situation could relate to. The author also provided lots of back stories into all the characters lives which I loved as it helped me understand things better and made the characters more dimensional. The book is told from 3 different characters points of view who are all seeking the truth. Kira is a mom searching for her missing 17 year old teenage daughter Brooke. Kira will do whatever it takes and wont stop until she finds her. While Grace who is in her late 20' is the house keeper for the local inn. She is a survivor from an horrible abduction that happened almost 8 years ago. Then there's Aden, he grew up in the town were people are going missing during what they call "the vanishing hour". He returns back to his home town after getting news that his father is one of the newer people to be reported missing. Kira, Grace and Aden are unsure what's going on and why people keep disappearing but the three of these oddly connected strangers set out to uncover the truth about what happens during The Vanishing Hour!
Thank you again for the honor of allowing me to read this ARC for my honest opinion.
The Vanishing Hour is so good! It was a little challenging to start with the introduction of many characters and the story being so fast paced, but after a couple chapters in you start to see how the lives are intertwined in this well thought out thriller. This book had it all - mystery, suspense, whodunit... Seraphina Nova Glass has become one of my go-to authors when I want a book I know I won't be able to put down. I highly recommend The Vanishing Hour! The ending was perfection.
This book was both twisty and suspenseful. It's a quick read that grabs your attention from the very first page. The big reveal of who the kidnapper was and the ending shocked me I really didn't expect it. Kira is the mother of the year. Thank you Netgalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing from the ARC in exchange for my review.
"So many girls disappear after dark--during the vanishing hour, and some make it back. Most don't. If there was a girl, I hope she's safe now."
I've got to admit, for the first half of this I thought it was just OK but I kept reading anyway. Then I hit the 60% mark and I raced through the rest of the book. The second half had so much action and so many red herrings (which I love) that I didn't even mind sitting in the doctor's office waiting room well past my appointment time because I could not put this book down.
The Vanishing Hour follows three perspectives--Kira, Grace and Aden. Kira's daughter is missing, Grace has a tumultuous past, and Aden's father is also missing. They all come together due to the commonalities in their stories as they begin to unravel the mystery. One thing I did find annoying though, was that Kira's story was in first person, while Aden and Grace's perspectives were third person, which just felt weird. There were also some strange love interests that didn't seem believable or needed. Otherwise thought I did enjoy this and will need to check out the author's backlist!
Thank you to Harlequin Trade Publishing, Graydon House & NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this book
This was my first Seraphina novel and I'm definitely a big fan now. I kept thinking I knew the twist but was mistaken every time.
This book was interesting! I definitely enjoyed the plot line.
I loved the plot line and how I didn’t guess the plot twist! It’s not very often that it happens that way. I also enjoyed the plot twist and the execution of it. It was definitely unique. So was how the three character point of views and how they connected. This was definitely a unique plot. What I didn’t enjoy was the writing style and characters. I felt this was overwritten and drawn out. Many sentences could have been rephrased to be showing, not telling, and more concise, leaving them more impactful. The same with the characters. I truly didn’t care about any of the characters or missing people. I really wanted to connect with Grace in some way and I just couldn’t.
Thank you to Netgalley and Graydon House for this ARC!
Rating is 3.5 stars rounded up to 4.
This was dark and twisty and totally exceptional! I cannot wait for more from Seraphina Nova Glass...such a fun ride!

This one was just okay.
3/5 ⭐⭐⭐
I didn't love it. I didn't hate it. I had this entire book figured out almost instantly.
This is told from a few POVs. Each POV got to be a bit repetitive for me, so the book was losing my interest rather quickly (especially since I had it pegged since page 10). I felt like I was reading simply to confirm my suspicions about the plot/characters.
The writing was good. I will absolutely read more from this author. This one just didn't "wow" me like I had anticipated.
Thank you to #NetGalley and #harlequintradepublishing for a copy in exchange for an honest review.
I love this book! One thing I never really think of when reading a book with the kidnapping trope is the absolute tenacity of the parents. Most often, it’s not even part of the plot.
Brooke is missing. Her mom? Kira is NOT having it. She’ll bust down every door, follow every lead, and talk to every person to find her daughter.
Along with Grace, Aden, and a cast of truly unique characters, Kira is determined to find her daughter. Everyone is a suspect and they all give her reason to think they were involved.
I listened to the audio and the amazing @britpressley narrated. She added an extra layer of suspense and emotion which kept me listening late into the night. I did NOT have this one figured out….at all. @seraphinanovaglass proves yet again she knows exactly what she’s doing and if you haven’t read her books yet…well…you definitely should.
Oh how I loved this book…….from beginning to end! A definite 5 out of 5 stars! I’d give it more than 5 if I could. So many twists. You think you have it figured out…..but you don’t. Read this book! And while you’re at it, read On A Quiet Street. Also a 5 plus stars! This author is fantastic.
3.5 ⭐️
Good, suspenseful plot and a very quick read, which I needed after my last 700 page book! This is my second by Seraphina Nova Glass and I look forward to more from her.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my review copy.
The Vanishing Hour
4.5 ⭐️ loved this thriller by new to me author Seraphina Nova Glass!
A mother searching for her daughter, a man searching for his father, and a woman hiding from the world. This page turner will keep you guessing until the end with all it’s twists and turns!
Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for introducing me to this author in exchange for my honest opinion! I’m so excited to read more from her! I highly recommend this thriller currently out in paperback, audio, and e book formats!!
I loved the multiple POVs and also the assumptions the characters made about each other! Once all the secrets are revealed, no one’s life will be the same!
This was such a great read! This is my first book by this author and I couldn’t wait to find out how everything came together at the end. I definitely felt Kira’s heartache and pain in her chapters. A lot of people I had as suspects! I can’t wait to read more from this author!
I thought this book was just okay. It follows three people, and we get chapters from each of their points of view. Aden, whose father is missing; Grace, who was kidnapped and held captive as a teen and managed to escape; and Kira, whose daughter is currently missing.
I liked the different points of view - it helped to keep the book interesting. It flowed nicely and I liked the writing style of this author, but I do think it dragged at times. There’s also one part involving Grace that I could tell was just added to prolong the book and it was very unrealistic and annoying. My biggest gripe with this book is that it was VERY predictable. I guessed the ending within the first few chapters. There were a couple of red herrings thrown in, but the ending was still very obvious to me.
It was an enjoyable read, but definitely not one I’ll be telling everyone to read.
This book got me hooked. I loved how it was told from different view points - with the first person being unknown. I liked figuring how the each character was connected.
