A new serial killer is in town and Jenna and her team are searching for missing persons, who seem to have disappeared without a trace.
This book wasn’t my favourite in this series, for me the story came together pretty quickly in terms of what was happening and what the killer’s intention was. I wasn’t really a fan of how the case was resolved, but nevertheless it was still a solid crime mystery with plenty of suspense. Jenna and her team were working great together as usual and FBI agents Jo and Carter also played a role in this book.
I am looking forward to book 19 and to see what will happen next in serial killer central.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Bookouture and the author D.K. Hood for providing me a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

A psychopath on the loose in a small isolated area is not easy to find. It is true
that people know each other, but when the area is vast, the weather is against you
and the abductions are random with no pattern at all, the Detectives are flummoxed.

No clues left behind, snatchedfrom the side of the road, snatched from their own
house, no forced entry Sheriff Jenna and Detective Kane are at theirwits end to stop
the abductions.

A chance miscalculation on the part of the murderer, the slip up which every detective
waits for and a grisly discovery in church solves the string of murders.
Ingenious way of hiding the victims in full sight.

Part of a series, my first foray into reading about this pair of detectives.

Plot is well designed. Characters are multi-dimensional. Setting is integral to the whole novel. Putting them all together successfully is the mark of a great author and and an exciting story..

Wonderful characters that I have come to know and love make this an exceptional read. Fast paced and terrifying it will keep you up reading into the wee hours. Twists and turns galore. Some seriously spine chilling moments in this dark gritty plot.
A great read

Another horrific case for Sheriff Jenna Alton and her husband and deputy, David Kane. Jenna is a former DEA officer who helped take down a vicious drug cartel. After a new name, some surgery, and placement in WITSEC, she became the sheriff in Black Rock Falls. Her husband, David, former special forces and sniper, once worked at the White House. Now they fight the crime that arrives in their town. A missing woman brings to light others who have gone missing, including an entire family from their home. The family left their home as if they were just stepping out for a moment; what or who could have caused the couple and their young son to leave that way? I have read and enjoyed most of the books in this series. They are a little more explicit, at times, than some mysteries, but I have enjoyed the characters and their dedication to protecting the innocent. The crime taking place in this one was a bit too much and a little too graphic for me. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)

Maisy’s car has broken down, it’s snowing and after midnight, but when a stranger offers her a lift to her hotel she takes it. But Maisy does not make it to her hotel and her vehicle is found, it's Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy David Kane who investigate. This leads to another missing person and the two need to find out what's happening before anyone else goes missing.

This is my first Hood read and it will not be my last. For me, this novel was a page-turner, I actually felt the tension that I was scared of what would happen next.

Hood writes a suspenseful novel full of twists and turns that will leave you on the edge of your seat and wanting to help Alton and Kane every step of the way.

Wow this was bloody brilliant, I loved every page. I really enjoyed the ending with this one, it was a little different to normal and gave another perspective. You would think that this series would get stale after 18 books, but no, it hasn’t the books are all very different and full of new murderous ideas. Really enjoyed it, in fact I read it in one sitting, I literally couldn’t put it down. Round of applause for DK Hood, five stars!

Book 18 in the Jane and Alton series and an eighth read for me having picked the series up on book ten.

I have yet to leave this series anything less than five stars and this book will follow that example.

Hood is an exceptionally talented author who writing style draws you in takes you on the journey with the characters so that you find yourself invested in the outcomes.

A fast paced chilling read full on tension and drama

Over the last few years, I have read every single book that came out and I can easily say that it’s one of my favourite series from mystery police procedural investigations .

The characters just grow on you with each book and in this story, even more. The plot itself made for a very challenging game of whodunnit because the victims just kept disappearing without a trace. Like literally no trace at all, dinner ready on the table for a young family of 3, the sideway parked car and a backpack that proved to be of someone else’s belongings, everyone just vanished.

So it’s easy to say that sheriff Alton and deputy Kane needed all the help and support they could get when investigating these crimes.

It’s a nonstop train ride that had me guessing until the last chapter and kept me so invested right from the first page. What a ride!

📖Very grateful to the publisher for my review copy and my place on the blog tour today

You know that when you pick up a book by DK Hood you are in for a treat! The opening to this book, chilling. The killer, chilling! I just had no idea who, what or why. But I do love the mystery of that and that's why I love this series. You never know which serial killer you are going to get next!!!

As ever I love being back with the gang, and this time we saw more Kalo - I was so happy, he is such a great addition, and I am so glad he was there with the team - you kind of forget how much of a pup he really is!!! This is a family, and I love seeing it expand throughout the series.

However, this killer was next level of sadistic, and the rein of terror was one to scare you under your covers! I don't want to leave the house again!

Like the last few books, I got the audiobook as I do love Patricia Rodriguez and her narration for everyone. I can't think of anyone else to do it and she makes the time fly.

The only thing I wasn't on board with this time was the end for the killer and the "comeuppance". It was left field, I am wondering if all is what it seems. I don't know if there will be a future sting in the tail or not. Whilst I got the reasoning, I just felt something didn't sit 100% with me. It's hard to say anything without stepping into spoiler territory.

Despite my feelings on this, I know that I am going to be there no matter what when the next book comes out. I adore this series, I love the writing and I love the characters. Looking forward to it!

I haven’t read any of these books before. I really enjoyed the thrilling storyline which kept me on the edge.

A serial attacker/killer is about. Who will his next victim be. What is he doing and will they find Masiy Jones in time. I enjoyed having the detectives point of view in the case

Thank you netgalley for this ARC

It’s Christmas on Black Rock Falls and in my head it’s a picture postcard with the snow and the town’s decorations including a full size nativity. But the festive period doesn’t stop one psycho from carrying out his dastardly plan of abducting random individuals!!

Now You See Me kicks off with one seriously chilling prologue and not just because it’s snowing in Black Rock Falls! Just what the heck?? Who the hell is this fella playing Good Samaritan and picking stranded Maisy up before scaring her witless and doing whatever else?!?!?

Hood has created possibly her sickest criminal yet – I might have thought that of one of her previous antagonists but this one is another level. Not only has she upped the ante with her psychos but the climax stopped me in my tracks. I had to reread what was before me to make sure I hadn’t misunderstood what I’d just read. I couldn’t believe what Hood had done!!

This series just gets better and better. I really don’t know how Hood pulls that extra something out the bag after 18 instalments but she does and I for one love my trips to Black Rock Falls.

This is the first book of the Detectives Kane and Alton series that I've read. It's already book 18 and it's called Now You See Me by D.K. Hood. It was published yesterday and I received it from Bookouture via Netgalley.

The search for a missing bartender is widened when another person vanishes into thin air. In another town a complete family has gone missing. Are the case connected and will they be able to stop people from going missing?

To be honest, I just couldn't get into the book. Perhaps it's because it's only the first one I've read in a series of 18 books, but it just didn't grab me. There were too many main characters which made it quite confusing and hard to focus. The dialogue at times was a bit weird and made no sense - like when a horrific scene was found a character smiles widely - it doesn't make sense. The writing itself came across as a bit hastily done and should have gone through a check first for fluency. The story was also quite predictable and it took away anything suspenseful whatsoever.

I would not recommend this book as a standalone. Perhaps it works when you've read the other books, but that doesn't take away the fact that the writing was rather subpar.

2/5⭐

Now You See Me is the 18th book in the Detectives Kane and Alton series by D.K. Hood. The book will keep you reading to find out who could be behind all of the people that have gone missing, including a family of 3 that left their dinner table and vanished without a trace! There's no sign of forced entry, no sign of a struggle, just a husband, wife, and young son missing from their home. Very, very weird! What happened to this family? Why were they taken? In the frigid temps, they left without their coats!

Maisy Jones is a new resident in Black Falls. She moved here hoping to get a job at the local ski resort, but was too late to get a job this season. Maisy settled for taking a temporary job as a bartender at the local bar. As she was leaving after her shift, she thought someone was following her as she walked to her truck. She made it to her truck okay and figured it must've been someone going to their car. Maisy's truck didn't start right up, it sputtered a bit, but finally started. As she drove out of the parking lot towards the motel she had rented a room in, her truck started having issues and the engine gave out. Maisy pulled to the side of the road and tried to start it again. No luck. Maisy got out of the truck and started walking towards her motel because she didn't have any other options. It was so late that she didn't think she'd see much traffic.

As Maisy walked she heard a truck coming. It sounded like a big pick up truck and she was surprised when the truck stopped beside her. The man looked "normal" enough and he offered Maisy a ride to her motel. He said he'd been hunting and as long as she didn't mind the smell, he'd get her where she needed to go. It was absolutely freezing, but Maisy turned him down at first. As the man told her the motel was at least 5 miles away, she reconsidered and got in the truck. Once in the truck she heard the locks click and the truck turned away from where her motel's located. The smell in the truck was awful land when she turned around the backseat was covered in plastic and there were 3 people sitting behind the plastic and they were all dead!! It was the missing family!!! Maisy screamed and knew she was in big trouble. The man covered her face with a cloth and Maisy passed out.

Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane were called when a truck was found on the side of the road and no one knows what happened to the driver. They find out the truck belonged to Maisy Jones and that she was working at the local bar as a bartender. David finds out that the truck had been tampered with and someone wanted her to break down. The investigation draws blanks. No one knows what happened to her, but she was at work the night before. They find out she had rented a room at the motel, but she paid in cash and all of her stuff is still in her room. What happened to Maisy? Where could she be?

A red backpack is found along the same stretch of road a bit later and Jenna was hoping it would be Maisy's. The backpack belonged to Billy Stevens, a young teaching assistant at the school. He didn't have a car and walked to and from school from the house he rented with 4 other men. The other men are doctors and work long and weird hours. None of them knew that Billy was missing because when they're home they're usually sleeping. No one at school knew what happened to Billy either. They just knew he didn't show up for work and he was always so reliable. He definitely would've called if he was sick. So now Billy has vanished without a trace, too. Who is taking these people and why?

I read this book very quickly and really enjoyed it. A serial murderer is in town and he has a diabolical reason for wanting different aged people to kill. It's almost Christmas in Black Falls and everyone is decorated and festive. It's the worst possible time for people to be missing. Jenna and David have lots of missing people to find and each day that passes more go missing. Will Jenna and David find the killer before he murders all of the victims? Where is he keeping the missing? How can what he's doing go unnoticed? If you love a good mystery this is the book for you!
I look forward to the next book in the series and love the characters that D.K. Hood has created. I rated Now You See Me 5 stars and it is a must read!

I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy of the book in exchange for a fair review! #NowYouSeeMe

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review "Now You See Me".
To all of our returning readers, welcome back to Black Rock Falls; and to you newcomers, fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a murderous ride. Welcome to Murder Central, or - as the locals have come to call it, the Serial Killer Capital (of the world?).
Ah, Christmas time in Black Rock Falls. And what would Christmas be without mystery and drama? And murder???
There’s something happening here, and what it is.... is people, seemingly random people, are disappearing into thin air. Just, poof, and they’re gone. And it’s not like they are special people: a bartender from a local bar, a student, an artist and - possibly - an entire family.
It’s up to Sheriff Jenna Alton and her husband/Deputy Dave Kane, their team and associates to try and stop another spree in this, the 18th instalment of the series. As usual, there are intertwining stories contained within the main one: a suspected drug overdose, a spectacular, multi-vehicle crash on the highway and a flirtatious television reporter (who comes and goes so quickly that I get the feeling he just might figure into future shenanigans).
Everyone is on hand as the two teams combine to investigate the disappearances - disappearances that overlap their areas - and this perp is devious, having left little in the way of clues (or so it seems).
But Jenna and Dave, Ty and Jo, Bobby Kalo and Deputy Rowley (with back up as usual from Shane Wolfe, his daughter and newly-relocated forensic pathologist Norrell) are hot on the trail. And things start to become clearer with every passing day.
The action is non-stop, culminating in an attempted kidnapping and a high-speed car chase with unimaginable consequences. And you won’t believe the final outcome.
Building on the characters that have populated the previous books in this series, and adding to each character’s back story, DK Hood continues to bring the goods.

Detectives Kane and Alton #18

Shivering by her broken-down car at midnight, she's relieved when a passer-by finally stops and offers her a ride. But her heart pounds as she hears the locks click shut. They're going the wrong way. Rooted to the spot with fear, she looks into his eyes as he laughs wildly....

I love this series, it never disappoints. Sheriffs Dave Kane and Jenna Alton are looking for a woman who went missing after her car broke down on her way home from work. But of course, it's Black Rock Falls and solving or finding the missing person won't be easy. FBI Agents Ty Carter and Jo Wells are investigating the disappearance of a family in a nearby county. Christmas is approaching and the Black Rock Falls community are busy decorating the town. Snow is beginning to fall. More people are disappearing. Is there another serial killer at large?

This is a fast paced, action packed, edge of your seat read. Not only do we have the mystery of where the missing people are, Jenna and Dave have a multi-vehicle crash to deal with. The story is told from multiple points of view. Although this is book 18 in the series, this book could be read as a standalone. But take my advice, read them from the beginning in the order they were written in. You won't be disappointed.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #Bookouture and the author #DKHood for my ARC of #NowYouSeeMe in exchange for an honest review.

Thanks a million for the opportunity to read and review Now You See Me.
D.K. Hood is one fire cracker of an author. I have read all of her books and each one is as brilliant as the previous ones. Now You See Me didn't disappoint. From the very first word right until the last I was absolutely gripped. I read it in one sitting. If you haven't read it you're definitely missing something special.

This is a gripping thriller that will have you devouring page after page as Detectives Kane and Alton try to determine if there is a connection between all of the people who have gone missing. Not only are persons missing from Black Rock Falls but also from Blackwater. And while Blackwater isn't in their jurisdiction, the Sheriff from Blackwater has called in the FBI. There are few clues at any of the scenes, but one clue appears to tie what has in the two towns to the same abductor. And the more that is found out about what has happened, the creepier things get, and chills will go up your spine.

An abandoned car,
The driver can't have gone far?
A tampered exhaust
They fear the worst....

Another enthralling visit to Black Rock Falls
Where another serial killer again calls.
This time folk just disappear
Where they've gone just isn't clear.

Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy David Kane are wed
But still work together to find justice for the dead
Now they search for the missing, too,
Though where they've gone they haven't a clue!

How can a family just disappear?
Leaving their meal, why isn't clear!
Property of the vanished is found nearby
If it was abandoned are there any clues to why?

Christmas is coming, but for those living near
This isn't proving a time of very good cheer.
With festive lights brightening up the scene
Who could be so cruel and mean?

What an explosive read this proved to be
With a frightening, sickening mystery.
For all involved, there's peril and danger.
Is the perpetrator someone they know or a stranger?

Another fascinating case for this intrepid pair,
Working with the FBI and the team they share.
The K-9s also have roles to play
To help resolve the case on the final day.

I thoroughly enjoyed this gripping crime thriller
With its horrendous serial killer.
The story is full of surprise galore
Read it for yourself to discover what was in store!

For my complementary copy, I say thank you,
As I share with you this, my honest review.
