When a car belonging to Black Rock Falls’ much-loved bartender Maisy Jones is found abandoned on an ice-covered road outside of town, Sheriff Jenna Alton and her deputy & husband David Kane are called in. The exhaust has been tampered with, which can only mean one thing: someone wanted Maisy stranded on that isolated road. Finding a red backpack on the same perilous stretch of highway, Jenna hopes it will contain clues to Maisy’s whereabouts. But the debit cards inside belong to local teaching assistant, Billy Stevens. He didn’t show up for work that day. Billy too has vanished into thin air.
This is the eighteenth book in the series & whilst it’s easily read on its own I love how relationships have developed throughout the series. Another well written action packed book, it often had me on the edge of my seat & once started I was loath to put it down. There were surprises & shocks, things I didn’t see coming & whilst I worked out some of what was happening I no means worked it all out. Roll on book nineteen
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

would like to thank netgalley and the publisher for letting me read this gruesome read....

when an abandoned car is found by the side of the road by kane and jenna its all hands on deck to find the driver, and it soon becomes apparent that something has happened to maisy jones the driver...as its soon discovered her car was tampered with.

someone had wanted maisy alone and vulnerable....

as if that was bad enough the weather was hampering their investigation with snow and ice making everything just that little bit more difficult

and when another person goes missing alarm bells start going off but with no bodies their only hope was a break in the case or waiting till spring to find them....

oh my goodness me this book i feel will stay with me for a while...it gave me goosebumps at some of the things that happened ...will never look at another nativity scene ever again without thinking about this book

cant wait for the next book in this brilliant series

Creepy does not even begin to describe the disturbed individual in this book. Black Rock Falls has been dubbed Serial Killer Central, and it appears that another maniac is on the loose in this beautiful town. When a car belonging to a local bartender, Maisy Jones, is found abandoned on the side of the road, the puzzle begins. After further investigation, they realize that her vehicle was tampered with, and this caused the vehicle to stall. It is as if she simply vanished into thin air. The super A-team of Kane and Alton are on the job. When it is revealed that an entire family of three have also vanished, the mystery deepens. They can find no trace of these people. No bodies are found. You, as the reader, know the killer has them, but you do not know what he is doing with them. I was beginning to get a little creeped out trying to figure this weirdo out.

So, while Christmas lights are being strung up around town with holiday cheer all around, the joy of the season is being stolen for Kane and Alton by this depraved individual. There is a horrific accident scene in the book that will also shock you.

I love this series and the characters in it. They are the cream of the crop in law enforcement circles. D.K. Hood pulled a fast one on me. Shocking and disturbing are two worlds that come to mind when I think of the direction this book went. She shocked me to my core. I did not see it coming and was completely blindsided. As usual D. K. Hood has written another winner worthy of much more than five stars. I hope this series continues on and on. It is amazing that at book #18 in the series, D. K. Hood's imagination finds another plot line to entice the reader into the story. Her imagination is amazing.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

I’d like to thank Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Now You See Me’, book 18 in the Detective Kane and Alton series written by D K Hood, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

The weather is bitterly old in Black Rock Falls when Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy David Kane are involved in a road traffic accident caused by trucks colliding. They’re bruised but otherwise unhurt as together with their friends from the FBI they start investigating the disappearance of a family of three, but when more folk go missing this threatens to be one of the most bizarre crime scenes they’ve ever had to investigate.

I’ve read all the books from this series from the very beginning and having reached No. 18 ‘Now You See Me’ is just as exciting as those previously. Descriptions of al the regular characters are given at the start for those new to the series. The story is gripping and impossible to put down but as it’s based in Black Rock Falls, otherwise known as serial killer central, nothing’s going to be run-of-the-mill as events turn out to be unbelievably gruesome, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. The plot is perfectly conceived with suspense, drama and twists and turns, and it’s always a pleasure to meet up with the characters who feel like old friends. If I was to find a fault, and they are few and far between, I’d say that the conclusion was wrapped up a little too quickly for my liking with not enough answers given as to the killer and the crimes that were committed, but I can forgive Ms Hood if she’ll promise to keep writing more in this remarkable series.

One of my favorite series and it never lets me down! Detectives Kane and Alton are back on the case when a young bartender goes missing. Her truck is found on the side of the road not far from where she's staying, but it appears she never made it. Then another person goes missing and the cases seem to all tie together.

There are many twists and turns in this story and all of the gang is back to try to find the missing girl, including Jo and Carter. Buckle up, you're in for quite a ride. Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC.

I wish I would've read this in December - it's the perfect Christmas-time murder mystery!

This is the first I've read in the Kane & Alton series - so I can only assume the first 17 books show the progression of their relationship - but it is definitely a book you can read as a standalone. Enough is mentioned in the beginning of the book to be able to jump right into the character's lives, and then enjoy the mystery they're solving.

"Now You See Me" follows a series of missing persons cases in the town of Black Rock Falls, the victims seemingly up & vanishing without a trace. I love how the story is told as it jumps around POVs, including the victims when they're being abducted. I really enjoyed watching how the Sheriff & Deputy put clues together & narrowed down a suspect list - especially with such little evidence. However, enough detail was put into their train of thought where they conclusions made perfect sense.

There was a good amount of action in this novel, which I was surprised I enjoyed as much as I did (not a big action reader!), but my favorite part was the end. I've always loved looking at the mindset of killers (love me some Criminal Minds), so seeing why the suspect was doing what he was doing, and the manner in which he was doing it, was wild.

This was a very enjoyable read beginning to end and I will definitely be diving into more novels from this series! Thank you so much to NetGalley and Bookouture for the eARC!

Another excellent book in the Kane & Alton series. I have read and enjoyed every single one and this is just as good as the other 17. Fast paced storyline that grips from the first page. I love the relationship between Jenna & Dave and the rest of the team. Can’t wait for the next book. Hope we don’t have to wait too long. I highly recommend this book/series and author 1000%

Before I read this novel, I pulled up my GoodReads to see if maybe I had already read this author and knew what to expect. Turns out, I had never read the author but all their books were already in my TBR list.

This book started so quickly, prologue started and we were off. The book is 18th in a series, I have yet to read the other books. So some of the background stories for the characters were lost on me. This was frustrating at times. However, they were intriguing enough that I intend on going back and reading the other novels so I can be brought up to speed to the current book.

That being said, this book starts immediately with a kidnapping and snowballs from there. I love a good serial killer book, this did not disappoint. I enjoyed the characters and their relationships with each other. The setting was creepy and perfect for the creepy crime. Overall, I would highly recommend this book!

Christmas is a joyful and fun time of year, but we're in Black Rock Falls, so you know something nefarious is going on.
This is a suspenseful, action packed, and fast paced read that grabs you from the start. I love the writing style, it feels like you're right there with Jenna and Dave. I like that the characters continue to develop and occasionally new characters are introduced. I can't wait to see what happens next.
Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.

Now You See me by D.K. Hood is book #19 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series. Definitely another winner! One could call Black Rock Falls the "Evil Capitol of the World." I think in those terms as the psychopaths in this series are so very evil and a number of cities have lots of murders but most don't reach the same level of evil. So "Evil Capitol of the World" fits better in my mind. Jenna and Dave along with their deputies, Wolfe and FBI friends Jo and Carter face a very organized, deadly psychopath. Each character has much to contribute to the investigation. These characters have become almost like friends and neighbors and I welcome each opportunity to read about them again. Any reader looking for a chilling, well-plotted thriller will find all that here. The action, suspense and surprises kept me turning the pages.

What better way to spend an evening but cozying up with one of my most favorite law enforcement lovers, Jenna and Dave.
Hood once again has managed to outdo herself with the morbid and macabre. One scene is so ghastly I had to read it several times to ensure I had it correctly.
There are moments of brevity and I was totally stumped about the killer’s identity until it was revealed.
I’m completely infatuated with Kane, but he also built a vintage Harley so it’s full on love for me!
I was glad to see Wolfe relationship with Norrell progressing.
I need #19 stat!

Wow…DK Hood continues to weave spell-binding tales of intrigue and horror…add another title to the can’t put down list…had me guessing till the very end and then BANG threw me for a total loop…I wish I could get inside her head and see how she comes up with all the twists and turns and how she crafts such wonderful stories. As always she has kept me on the edge of my seat all the way until the end…my heart was literally racing during one scene…almost gave me a panic attack!! You won’t want to put this one down until you’ve read every single page!

Innocent victims gripped by a terror in a black truck😳

This one's pretty fast paced, with a missing person case count rising daily in the lead up to Christmas in this Montana town with a reputation for serial killers. All of my favorite Black Rock Falls characters are present and accounted for, working with due diligence to solve the riddle of such a motley assortment of normal local residents disappearing like magic.

I love how this group of police and FBI investigators work so seamlessly together, right down to their chummy working dogs. They are like one big, extended family and I think the balance between the investigation and descriptions of their personal lives works well. Big, buff Detective Kane and new father of twins Rowley are two of my favorite characters.

I had guessed what the kidnapper was doing with his victims quite early on as the clues were there, but the race to catch him before he took any more victims was suspenseful and unpredictable, with some episodes of serious danger to the investigative crew included. And I liked that the book ended on a happy, positive note. I do wish we had had a bit more insight into the villain's mind and motives.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Never get into a car with a stranger, especially not if you are in Black Rock Falls. There is another serial killer on the loose, and someone who really enjoys weird things. He needs help to get what he wants, and he has found a way - a person - to do the bits he cannot do himself.

I love the warm and growing banter between the team, and how they have become like a good group of friends I keep on going back to, even though, to the totally honest, I am not sure I would like to know them in real life. If they were my friends I would probably have gotten kidnapped at least a few times.

The characters are so vivid, and after finding out more and more about their pasts, and then learning to know how they are growing into new people together is both heartwarming and hopeful. In the middle of the coldest winter, there is something good, and something to look forward to, after chasing serial killers the whole day.

This one took me to a place I didn't see coming. I really love the characters in this series and their focus not only on the job but their friends and family. This one will make keep you on the edge of who is it going to be?

Another brilliant book in the Kane and Alton series.
A young woman has gone missing following her shift at a local bar and it looks like she got into someone’s truck.
Carter and Jo are investigating a family that has disappeared and soon a local teacher is missing as well.
Jenna, Dave, Carter and Jo soon realise it could be the same person behind these abductions, but where is he keeping them?
A local artist then goes missing and the group know they need to act fast before more people are taken.
We see things from one of the victims perspective too and realise her captor has a collection of bodies and Maisy does all she can to ensure that she is not next.
This is a gripping crime thriller that will have you on the edge of your seat.
Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Book 18 in the series although a first for me and I think that I have missed out to a degree especially in trying to understand how the detecting characters fit together. Sheriff Jenna and husband, and deputy I think, Dave start with an abandoned vehicle on a dark night in winter, it belongs to a girl now missing. Other people have disappeared with no trace apart from specific vehicle tyre patterns. They and a couple of FBI agents start to make links between the disappearances and hence discover a serial killer on their hands. We partly have the story from Maisie, the missing girl's p.o.v. and it is a chilling tale. The serial killer really is one sick man. It's nearing Christmas and the eventual discovery of the bodies is horribly sick and gruesome. A good read but frustrating as I still don't really know what motivated the killer in the first place other than in very general terms.. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advance copy.

This is book 18 in the Detective Kane and Alton series. Can you read these as a standalone? Yes, you can but I recommend reading the entire series starting from the first book in the series. There is just so much backstory to each character that is important to know. And, there are ALOT of main characters to remember! With that said, this is a great series I highly recommend!
Detective Kane and Alton have their hands full when people start missing. As they have pretty much nothing to go on, they call in help from detective friends. Time is getting away from them as the body count goes up.
Fast paced, action packed and edge of seat suspenseful moments are what you will get with reading Now You See Me.
I wish we could have learned more about the kidnapper/killer and what his backstory was. It is touched on just a little bit.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the opportunity to read this book for my honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.

It took a bit for me to get into but then the book moved quickly. I feel like I missed a LOT of things from the previous books and there were no reminders of past events for new readers. A 'here's what you missed' at the front would have been super helpful in keeping track of who everyone was and what their stakes in the game were.
I guessed the disposal site the instant it was mentioned. For a while, it looked like they would never figure it out.
It would have been nice to learn the why for the killer and the why for his captive.
I enjoyed this.
I received a copy via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

This is book #18 in the Kane and Alton series. Whilst it is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone book, but I would recommend reading in series order for better understanding of the storyline. We are back in Black Rock Falls and it’s on the lead up to Christmas. The town seems quiet until the report of missing Maisie Jones, a bartender who is new to the area. As more people are reported missing without a trace, Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane call on the help of the FBI field team. Black Rock Falls is definitely serial killer central, and this case is particularly weird, creepy and gruesome!

I really do like this series and whilst we are on book #18, the action keeps on coming. This latest case really did send shivers down my spine, and as the book moved on the horrors of what this latest serial killer was doing was shocking! Sheriff Jenna and Deputy Dave are the constants through this entire series, and I still love them both, particularly as they are now a happily married couple! They certainly had their work cut out with this case, and despite having plenty of suspects to consider, you just couldn’t work out who was the evil killer behind it all!

The story begins straight into the action and holds the pace, suspense and tension all the way through. There’s so much going on and I was hooked into the storyline! I couldn’t believe how the killer was caught and I read open mouthed, unable to keep up with the fast pace but not wanting to tear my eyes away from the page! As I’ve come to expect from this author, this was another captivating read with plenty of heart stopping moments and just enough gruesome to turn my stomach ever so slightly! With a great cast of characters, a seriously creepy killer and a town where you really don’t want to live, I’d definitely recommend not just this book but the whole series!
