Five stars all the way , and I'm not just saying that since this series is one of my all time favorite to read which in case you didn't known it is. The characters, the town, ,the cases, the way the author tells her stories, and let's not forget the creepness, as well as how the killers are the type to give you goosebumps, and mixed in all of a bit of romance .
This is the 18th book of Detectives Kane and Alton series, it can be read as stand alone. My first in this series and this book is good. This time Jenna and Dave have case with an organized psychopath who prepare everything from abduction until move evidence. What he do with the corpses was disturbing, to think the Black Rock Falls not his first rodeo..
Thank you to NetGalley for provide this book, it is pleasure to review this book.

Book #18 and it couldn’t come fast enough for me. Can anyone say scary, creepy? With her imagination I don’t see how this Author can sleep. People disappearing, a barmaid, a student, a family. This psychopath takes them all. What he does to them will have you sleeping with the light on. But never fear, despite some scary scenes for Jenna and Dave, the team finds the perpetrator. Love the characters in this series and new ones being introduced keeps the series interesting. Looking forward to the next instalment. Thanks to NetGalley, Bookoutre and the Author for allowing me to read and review this book.
People are going missing around Black Rock Falls. They suspect a serial killer is operating in the area but he is leaving few clues. No bodies are found and the victims are all different ages and sexes. Can they find him before more people disappear. This is the first book I have read by this author and it won’t be the last. I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know what would happen next. Plenty of suspense to keep you guessing. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy.
This has easily become one of my favourite series to read and I always feel like I’m on the edge of everything watching it all unfold while Jenna and the team try to solve yet another spate of gruesome murders. I do like that new characters are being introduced as it keeps the storyline fresh, my only concern was that when Jenna and Kane got involved that it would ruin the dynamics of the plot so I’m glad that the author is keeping that side story to a minimal level. All in all another great read and now the only thing is waiting for the next book.
Another great book! Wow! I'm loving this series! This book had the usual, it had suspense, intrigue, action, murder, mystery, serial killers, blood and gore, A great who done it and great police work! The storyline was very interesting and very weird! lol I read it in one sitting! It had me glued to my Kindle! I did guess a few things right away, I knew what the killer was going to do with his victims! But a few things had me guessing till the end! I highly recommend reading this book and series! They're well worth reading! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me! I can't wait for more! This author has become one of my one click top favorites!
Sheriff Jenna Kane and her husband, Deputy Dave Kane are investigating the disappearance of a barmaid whose car is found broken down and abandoned on the road outside of town.
Later, a teaching assistant also disappears, and a whole family is gone from their home.
What started out as a missing persons case becomes a hunt for a serial killer when a Christmas display is not what it looks like.
DK Hood has written a gory, creepy but gripping novel. I could barely put it down!Totally chilling, and I am not talking about the weather. Just shows how the monsters walk among us, their evil hidden by a smile.
As I have said before, I like a strong female lead in a police procedural, and Jenna is definitely that. I like the people in her team as well.
A 5 star read in my opinion.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my copy of this book.
I have honestly been waiting on this instalment since I finished the last. I love this series of books, the characters are amazing and of course the storylines.
In this book sheriff Jenna Alton and deputy Dave Kane are investigating the disappearance of a young woman. This quickly ties into a young man. And then they discover it is linked to disappearances all around the area-a case that Jo and Carter are investigating.
This was so good. It had all the right elements of a good suspense thriller. I love how there was many suspects, but also the story wasn’t finished once they got the bad guy.
Highly recommend all of this series! We need the next book asap!
How did I not know this series existed until now?! I just clicked on it because I like titles that are games or saying so I didn't go into it expecting much but omg, I was hooked from the start! This is the book that all other serial killer thrillers_ police dramas aspire to be. The serial killer is unique and absolutely vile. The main characters are engaging, 3d, intelligent and make you care about them and what happens to them. You can't help hut get invested in the case and their lives. And who doesn't love a dog helper!! The book is so well written and the plot just flows so naturally and gently carries you along. I was actually amazed at how many things are happening in this story, its just murder after murder and its just so far elevated that many of the serial killer hooks Ive come across. There are also plenty twists and turns and red herrings thrown in so I am not ashamed to say, I had no clue who had actually done it until it was right in front of my face. This is the kind of book that you shouldn't start if you plan on getting anything else done that day....... send the kids to a sitter, order takeaway for the spouse, get the dogs settle and then lock the doors, close the curtains and prepared to get completely lost in the world of DK Hood. And you won't regret a second it. A must read! I'm off to download the rest of the series!!!
When a book by one of your favorite writers lands on your Kindle, you have two options. You can jump on it straight away or you can wait a bit longer knowing you still have something to look forward to.
So I showed I could resist the book calling my name and finally the time had come. :)
As soon as I open this book, the roof may fall on my head, I don't think I would notice. I am not reading about Black Rock Falls. I am in Black Rock Falls. I don't read about Jenna and her team. No, I am working with them trying to find the culprit and trying to save the victims.
The townspeople must be very happy I am not part of the team, because I would have arrested the wrong person. I had another suspect in mind, but on the other hand I can proudly say I had figured out where the victims were hidden. Jenna said she had a budget for more deputies so maybe I should apply LOL.
The killer had quite a history, but they should have known better if they wanted to keep on killing. Once you start targeting people from Jenna's town, your hours are counted...
The author adds another thrilling book to this amazing series. 5 stars
Thank you
D.K. Hood delivers another new exciting creepy book!
Welcome back to Black Rock Falls aka Serial Killer Central! This is book #18 and the series is still going strong as ever. Black Rock Falls is a major magnet for psychos, serial killers, kidnappers and crazy people, but it's also home to Sheriff Jenna Alton, her husband Deputy Dave Kane, Medical Examiner Shane Wolfe, deputies Zac Rio and Jake Rowley, along with FBI Agents Carter and Jo Wells. A bonus is Duke and Zorro, the adorable fur pups.
As the town is preparing for Christmas with decorations and a brand new nativity scene down at the park, people start disappearing. It doesn't take long for Sheriff Jenna Alton and her husband, Deputy David Kane to start their investigations. D.K. Hood really delivers on the gore this go around that will make you race through the pages.
Never a dull moment in Black Rock Falls and this is definitely not to be missed!
Loving this series….Omg talk about a roller coaster read wow this book kept me on the edge of my seat through out I just couldn't put it down this writer keeps you hooked and once your hooked your not letting go I found this book thrilling the characters were fantastic and well thought out and the little clues all the way threw keep you guessing until the end this book stays with you long after you close the book this book is well worth the read I promise you wont be disappointed.
As soon as I received this ARC it jumped straight to the top of the tbr pile and I’ve devoured it over two evenings. Another brilliant read in this excellent series. It’s number eighteen and still as fresh as the first. A riveting read that I genuinely couldn’t put down. It might be nearly Christmas but it’s definitely not goodwill to all men, or women, in Black Rock Falls. The method of the demise of the victims is as original as it is horrific. You don’t expect things to get worse but what then happens to them will blow your mind. A wonderfully gripping main plot, and the characters and subplot bubble along nicely too. A few new faces, and some more information on some other characters too. The only negative is that it’s was so good I read it too quickly and now I want to dive into the next one.
Kane and Alton, detectives, have a mystery to solve. People are disappearing. I must say from the onset, this is not a mystery for the light hearted. It is deep and dark, and it takes time to discern the ending, especially with the red herrings. It is actually somewhat gory. The characters are realistic and come alive on the pages of this novel. This talented and gifted author has, once again, given us a book that is a cannot put down page turner. I did not guess what happened to the missing people, besides being murdered, of course. Whew. I liked this book because it took much thinking to stay ahead of the murderer and the detectives. Netgalley sent me this book, electronically, for review. Thanks also to the publisher and the author. When I see D. K. Hood as the author, I know it is going to be a read of twists and turns. Enjoy.
