I recently finished The Neighbor Two Doors Down by H.K. Christie, and it was a dark and witty psychological thriller that kept me hooked. The protagonist, Allison Smythe, is barely holding on to her sanity after a traumatic event involving her sister’s kidnapping. Moving to a new city for a fresh start, she’s shocked to find her sister’s abductor living nearby. The suspense builds as Allison takes matters into her own hands, questioning her own mental state along the way.
Christie’s ability to weave unpredictable twists and maintain a sense of dread throughout the book is impressive. The unreliable narrator and the psychological depth of the main character add layers to the story, making it a gripping read. Fans of psychological thrillers with complex characters and intricate plots will likely enjoy this book as much as I did
📚 Just finished "The Neighbor Two Doors Down" by H.K. Christie and it was a gripping psychological thriller! 🔍💀 The story kept me hooked from start to finish, with each chapter ending on a cliffhanger that left me eager for more. While the plot was somewhat predictable, the dark and witty tone added an extra layer of intrigue. Plus, I'm a sucker for a happy ending! Overall, an entertaining read that I devoured in one sitting. #TheNeighborTwoDoorsDown #HKChristie #PsychologicalThriller #BookReview 🌟📖
I enjoyed this book quite a bit. It's kinda similar to a couple of books that I've read in the past but that didn't take away the fun and thrill this one had.
I would've wanted for the twists to be more unpredictable but well, we can't have everything, anyway.
Kudos to the author!
This was a thrilling read, and I can't wait to try another one by this author. Recommended for anyone who enjoys a good read.
Inspired by the fascinating case of Jaycee Dugard’s kidnapping, this book takes the perspective of the sibling left behind. This makes for an intriguing point of view and the author does a terrific job of building the character in such a way that you are uncertain whether grief has damaged her psyche or if she is onto something big….
Thanks to the publisher for a copy in exchange for a review.
I thought the premise of this book sounded so intriguing but I'll confess that I struggled to finish it. I wasn't a huge fan of the dialog and writing and found parts to be redundant. By the end, I was skimming to be finished.
This was a quick and easy read. The reason I give it a 3 was that it was predictable and the ending was a little lacklustre.
Dark and creepy with a stormy atmosphere it makes a thrilling physcological thriller with non-stop twists that don't seem to stop.
This was a fun twisty read, I've seen this authors books on tiktok but never read til this one and now I want to read her other books!
A fun, gripping, fast paced domestic thriller filled with twists I didn't see coming that had me turning the pages. I really enjoyed this one.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
Really great psychological/domestic thriller. Plenty of twists to keep me interested and reading on to see what would happen.
Great job by the author.
Honestly, this book took longer than it should have for me to finish. I would start it, than put it down. I couldn’t stay with it. This may have been more of a me issue and less of an author issue. But either way, I found it predictable and it took me too long to get through
Thank you NetGalley!
Story of a woman with ptsd from a sibling being kidnapped 20 years ago without the victim being found, leading to coincidences that give resolution. The pace is fairly fast, kept my attention, though I suspected the truth fairly early in the story,it didn’t take away from the story.
Thank you to Netgalley for this book.
Allison has moved to Seattle after her dad died and she gets a new job. Allison’s sister Ella was kidnapped when she was 14 and Allison 17. Allison served with anxiety and depression afterwards and even almost killed a man because she thought he was the man who stole her sister. She meets Jack who’s aunt and uncle leave two doors down from her. She meets Jack’s aunt Cora who seems very nice at first. Then one day before work she goes to Cora’s bakery and comes face to face with her sisters kidnapper. Her sisters kidnapper ends up being Cora’s husband Eddison. Eddison and Cora kidnapped Ella that day in order to have a baby. Ruby is Eddison and Ella’s daughter but Cora calls her her daughter. They keep Ella hidden and call her Dorthory. Allison contacts the investigator in charge of her sisters case who never gave up hope. He investigates Eddison but comes up empty so she tries to befriend Cora and Ruby. Ruby confides in her that she isn’t Cora’s daughter but is Eddison’s. She asks her college friend Henry to look into Eddison and Cora and he ends up finding out that they where responsible and go to their house to see if Ruby is there after Allison is no longer allowed to see her. Allison is finally reunited with her sister and niece and they go to the police station and her mom comes to be reunited with her daughters and granddaughter. Allison, Ella, and Ruby move back to the Bay Area in California so they are never apart again. Eddison and Cora die by a shooting and beating respectively. Eddison is shot and Cora is beaten by Eddison after he discovers Ruby and Ella gone. I am glad this book had a happy ending and a family is reunited.
Thank you to Netgalley for a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was really excited about this based on the summary and the reviews that had already been made on this book. I unfortunately didn’t have the same views.
The premise of this story was great. However, the execution was sorely lacking in most areas. The author’s writing style is basic to a flaw. It reads like an amateur writer, not a published author. The sentences are repetitive, lacking in a rhythmic flow, and have no differences in sentence structure and pattern.
The descriptions used in the book are similar to what my middle school writers use in their writing. It was lacking in imagery and realism. It seemed forced and unnatural. The character development was also lacking and cringy. The main character, who is supposed to be an intelligent capable professional twice used the phrase “suck it.” This is an example of the lack of realism.
As the plot progressed, things became more unrealistic. I was waiting for a pivotal climax and it was more akin to air slowly leaking out of a balloon. There were multiple opportunities to liven things up, like a clash between the protagonist and antagonist. Instead, they met once and that was the end of that. The denouement was ridiculously unrealistic. Police would never wait over an hour to go get a perp. They’d never release victims back to the home two doors away during a police standoff! This was absurd.
I’m glad so many enjoyed this book, but it was like pulling teeth to finish. This won’t be an author I follow.
What a read!
I had a lot of emotions reading this book!
I really enjoyed this read. The plot although some points predictable it still had me wanting to read on as fast as I could.
I did find Liam super annoying and I wanted to flick dr baker other than them I highly recommend!
This was the first book I've read from this author and it was just okay. It was hard for me to get into and the characters didn't keep my attention.
This book had me from the jump. I really enjoyed this book. I enjoyed all the characters (except Edison ew 🤢 OH! And Dr Baker what was her issue?) Anyway…
It was a story with a heartbreaking beginning but ended beautifully and as it should. Short chapters very fast paced read. It is hard to read at some points and breaks your heart but it all works out in the end. Definitely recommend giving this a read!
This was a great book. Wanted to keep reading. Storyline flowed well, I did guess what was happening but that wasn’t really a secret in the story and it had a lovely ending. If only real life situations like this story could end so well.
Would definitely read more from this author and appreciate the chance to read this one.
I loved the story. It was a quick and easy ready. I finished this in one day. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was because I guessed the twist pretty quickly, but other than that, the characters were really likeable, and I enjoyed the storyline. If you are looking for a good thriller that you can just pick up and smash out, I'd definitely recommend this one!
Thank you to netgalley and H.K Christie for allowing me an early copy of this brilliant book
Thanks to #netgalley for the ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. This was my first time reading from this author and sign me up for their backlist! What an atmospheric, page turner of a read. The author has mentioned that she was inspired by the Jaycee Duggard case and she wanted to show that in kidnapping cases there is hope. I was so immersed in this book and the storyline, I am pretty sure the world could have stopped revolving and I would not have noticed! Heartbreaking in parts, with sinister undertones and a well paced plot, I couldn't put it down. #hkchristie #theneighbortwodoorsdown #tea_sipping_bookworm #goodreads #netgalley #litsy #thestorygraph #thriller #bookqueen #bookstragram
