I finished this book just a few minutes ago. I found it really enjoyable. The characters were complex and all facing their own battles. This book was a bit of a surprise and I wish it had kept going... Maybe we can get a sequel with of of the secondary characters.
I really enjoyed this book. I liked the pace of it, the detail and all of the characters. It made me laugh, it also made me have a tear!! It was my first by this author but I'd definitely read more.
The characters were all quite unique, which made it more readable, with their own stories and insecurities.
🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 From me.
Thanks to Netgalley & the publisher for an advanced copy.
I devoured this in two days and I can safely say I enjoyed it. It dragged a little at times but was enjoyable nonetheless.
Thanks to NetGalley for the e-ARC. I loved this funny, warm and wise novel from Lizzie O'Hagan, her characters are instantly likeable and I always find myself rooting for them. It's the perfect book to curl up with.
This was such a tough one for me, because the premise was delicious. Enemies to lovers? Work place? Forced proximity? LOVE. But it fell so short. It seemed like the author despised Kate. Everything seemed to be her fault, and she didn't fight it she just accepted it and apologised. Harry was awful, not a nice person. And don't get me started on the Cally debacle. Not impressed
I really enjoyed Lizzie’s other book, ‘The Visa’ so was excited to be approved to read an ARC of this!
The book follows Kate as she struggles to get to grips with turning 30 (I felt this one personally as someone who turns 30 this year 😂) and reflects on how her life hasn’t followed the plan she set out for herself. She struggles with feeling under appreciated in her workplace, feeling the pressure of trying to attain a promotion and feeling like she doesn’t fit in with the ‘model’ stereotype that her company (a fashion retailer site) seems to be full of. When she is pushed into working with a man she hates after being rejected by him and an influencer, Kate finds herself changing her opinions and blurring the line between love and hate.
I enjoyed the book as I related a lot to Kate but feel like the romance aspect was second to the main theme of Kate finding herself and knowing what she wants out of life. This didn’t bother me and actually enjoyed seeing this perspective but those that read it expecting the romance to feature very heavily could be a little bit disappointed. It was an easy read and would recommend but I preferred The Visa.
Loved it. This was very fantastic romcom with very witty, charming and humorous elements with dialogues full of banter and got sizzling chemistry!!
When reading this book it took me a little longer than usual, I found throughout the book I was getting more agitated with the stereotypes and the main character Kate. I understand this is a slow burn enemies to lovers, however the ending seemed very rushed for me. Kate and Harry were only just getting out of an argument and then all of a sudden in the end they were together and the reader had no way of knowing how or when that happened. I did like how the book was written and how the ending went against the stereotypes at the presentation.
This has been a delightful escape to a wonderful setting. I have definitely been transported by this one.
It's hard to seperate the romance in this book from the toxic workplace. Which means it makes it hard to fall in love alongside these characters.
The 'geeks' of this glamourous high end website are to move floors and merge alongside the 'prettys'' but it is almost comical teen angsty bullying with an us and them that doesn't entriely seem necessary but it like a wider scale more intense version of 'The Hating Game'.
I think the miscommunications between these two main characters and the lvel of hate between their two groups doesn't add to the romance of the story and makes it hard to be entirely happy whilst reading, it leaves a level of uncomfortability that dampens the joy when these two do sort it all out.
Thank you to NetGalley, Lizzie O'Hagan and Headline Books for the opportunity to read this book as an ARC! *All Views Are My Own*
Absolutely loved this read!
Enemies to Lovers office romance. Filled with enough plot, drama and romance to fulfil every reader's needs!
Every character was so loveable.
I enjoyed watching Kate and Harry go from arguing at every given moment to then falling so hard for each other.
But this wasn't just a romance book it was about the empowerment of women especially and trying to change the way the fashion industry runs. Making things more inclusive and building people up instead of breaking them down.
The character development was awesome and it showed some great lessons. Especially in not taking everything at face value as the reality can look much different.
Definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance book! (Especially enemies too lovers trope😍)
Enemies to lovers is typically one of my favourite tropes so I was excited to sink my teeth into this one. It took me quite a while to get into it! I enjoyed the book, but I wouldn’t say I was massively invested in the plot nor the characters. It’s a really easy read if you enjoy this trope but I also found myself just becoming annoyed with the character’s personalities. I’ll definitely be trying to read more of Lizzie’s work!
I really enjoyed this book. I loved the characters and their interaction. I really related with Kate always being so serious and wanting life to look a certain way by a certain time in life.
If you want an easy read of enemies to lovers story then this is for you. There were lots of funny parts but also an underlying serious story around self worth, work environments and perceptions of others.
A very straightforward read - easy to pick up and delve in - but unfortunately, with so many other similar novels on the market, so too was it easy to put down.
Unfortunately, the story just didn’t grip me enough from the start and this was more of a skim read. Characters are well written, but they lack a third dimension.
Not one I will reread unfortunately.
I really enjoyed this book and I loved the miscommunication of their first meeting. Such a wonderful litte story and I found myself wanting to read when I was at work.
Although I wasn't completely convinced at first, the more I read, the more I enjoyed. I found the characters realistic and relatable, especially Kate, who is a bit of a cynic in some respects and not the 'oh so perfect' FMC you sometimes see in romance books. I also liked the way it's told from her POV but still paints her in a more complex way. The book definitely was a grower, I started off not so sure how I felt about it, but it really progressed well, and I found myself enjoying it more and more. It dealt with some issues around body positivity and insecurities well and had some strong female characters. There were some elements that felt like they could have been fleshed out more, some of the friendships especially, but overall, it was an enjoyable read.
Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for sending me a copy of this ARC.
Unfortunately this was not for me. The relationship was toxic, didn't fit into the workplace, full of lies and it felt forced. Rhe background context of rhe workplace and the excuses given throughout the book honestly for me made it even more awful. What a incredibly shit place.
Guarantee that they would break up within a year.
Hate at first sight is a pretty straight forward enemies to lovers romance book and overall, I enjoyed it. I think the storyline was good and for once it was a romance which isn’t absolutely taken over with sex scenes like a lot these days.
One thing I think did annoy me was the fact that it seemed to blame everything going wrong in the book on Kate. She was blindsided by people she should trust in an important meeting, treated like dirt by her colleague for most of the book, blamed for missing a friend’s birthday for a work trip (even though she said it was fine) and Harry wanted to keep their relationship a secret for most of the book. Yet all of this was written off as her fault?
Also, I think the end was a bit rushed. The epilogue tried to explain everything to wrap the story up but it just seemed like a bit of a cop out. For example, for most of the book Harry was incredible conscious about keeping their relationship a secret but in the epilogue he was trying to kiss Kate in the middle of a work meeting?
Overall, I wouldn’t say this is a book that’s going to change your life but I do think it’s a good easy read.
Thanks the NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
I've read a lot of very predictable books recently so it was refreshing to read something that wasn't actually as predictable as I'd thought it was.
I loved the characters in this book and really enjoyed tht they all had their flaws. The theme of being yourself threaded throughout the story was wonderful and I really liked how everything worked out.
I'm off to find more books by this author and would definitely recommend this to any chicklit fan!
Wonderfully written!
This was my first time being introduced to Lizzie’s work and what a pleasure it was to read. It wasn’t fully what I was expecting but such a great read.
The book was really well written, loved the writing style. I especially enjoyed the themes on brand morality and the discussions on sustainability and inclusivity in the retail realm.
Now, I love love love an enemies to lovers, forced proximity type of book. That is my jam! The most chefs kiss combo ever in a book. And Harry and Kate definitely had the enemies part down at the start, but I really wish there was more romance written into that lovers part too. I was longing for some more angst or fire further down the line.
Overall, I would still keep an open mind with this book. Although for me it was lacking slightly in romance, it has a really good plot and discusses some important issues we face today.
