If I remember correctly, this would be the series' third book. I did enjoy the first two. I guess this one has the most intriguing mystery. This had so many interesting characters, and I found it hard to pinpoint who the natural killer was because of some subplots. However, how the story unfolds and the killer's revelation is brilliant. I can't wait to read the next book. I can't wait to read more about these characters and the next mystery. I received a copy from the publisher through NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.

Thanks to Net Galley and Crooked Lane press for an ARC of this book. My opinions are my own.

In Murder at Midnight, Lily Adler is a guest at a winter house party hosted by Mrs. Grantham. When a heavy snowstorm makes the roads impassable, she and the other guests are desperate to keep occupied, until one of the men is found murdered in the garden. The suspect is a teenaged girl who refuses to reveal her connection to the dead man.

Lily has her hands full trying to determine who the true murderer could be from a houseful of suspects. As if solving the case weren't enough, she has a proposal from handsome Matthew Spencer to consider while trying to deny that Captain Jack Hartley makes her heart beat just a bit faster.

This book is a perfect winter read by the fireplace with a hot mug of tea, or on the beach with an iced drink. The plot has unexpected twists and enough red herrings to satisfy any mystery lover. I enjoyed it immensely.

This book was entertaining and some scenes were funny. There is so much going on with all the characters that it was difficult to keep track of who was who through out the story. I was lost at times and I couldn't guess who was the murderer. Everyone seemed suspicious and it kept me guessing. I thought the story was good but I was hoping the reason for the murder was more nefarious than what it was.

I'd never read.this series of author before but I'm a sucker for Christmas mysteries and this one was calling my name! I didn't feel like I was missing out not having read the previous in the series I still very much enjoyed the story. A great Christmas mystery that will get you in the Christmas spirit.
Thank you netgally for the chance to read and review this gem!

The fourth in the Lily Adler series this can easily be read without having read the previous novels. Lily, a young widow, is stranded at a party by a sudden snow storm. One of the guests is found murdered the next morning and the murderer has to be one of the guests. Complicated by extenuating circumstances and unexpected thefts Lily must solve the mystery before the guests are allowed to depart.
Without having read the previous books I was quickly swept up into the life and relationships of Lily Adler. Enough background information was shared that this was a very enjoyable read. Lily is a strong female lead ina time when women weren't encouraged to think or act on their own behalf. Strong characters and a good plot make this a very enjoyable mystery.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of Murder at Midnight by Katharine Schellman. I LOVE Lily Adler! I found the first of this series by happenstance and have been thrilled with each subsequent book - this one is no different. She's such a funny character to find herself in these uniquely curious and dangerous situations - and who doesn't love the murder mystery dinner vibe?

Read the series - they're fun, clever, and worth your time.

Schellman’s tale is a classic house party murder mystery. When a sudden snowstorm strikes, Mrs. Grantham’s Christmas party turns into a days-long house party where the attendees must grapple with murder. One initially needs a scorecard to try to keep track of all the players—the major ones being our heroine, the widowed Lily Adler, her brother-in-law Sir John, who is also the magistrate unwillingly drawn into investigating the murders, Matthew Spencer, her potential suitor, and Captain Jack Hartley, a friend and fellow sleuth with whom she has solved crimes in previous books of this series. The first to die is handsome Gregory Edison, whose name has been scandalously linked with that of Jack’s young sister Amelia, and initial evidence points to her guilt—something both her brother and Lily don’t believe. While Amelia refuses to divulge even to Jack the nature of her association with the deceased, the murdered man’s brother as well as numerous other house party guests might also have had reason to dispose of him. Those who prefer their mysteries fast-paced might find this story a bit slow, and this reader found the uncommunicative Amelia annoying. But the plot is intricate, the red herrings and potential guilty parties numerous, and the unfolding of the tale interesting. Reading an e-book where one sees only the pages being read, I was amused to discover at the end (for I’d forgotten after beginning the book) that the story is set during the Regency; I had assumed it was Edwardian. Earlier books in the series (which I have not yet read) take place in London, which might allow for a greater sense of period that this country-set story provides. Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance review copy.

A perfect Historical fiction murder mystery. Begins with friends, family and neighbors coming together at the home of Mrs. Grantham for dinner, dancing and games. Lightly snowing as they arrive. Turns into an impassable blizzard by the end of the evening festivities so they will all be staying the night here which turns into a week of snowed in togetherness. The first night someone is murdered at the chicken coup. The coroner can’t be summoned because of the weather so the local magistrate who happens to be in the house along with his widowed sister-in-law in-law, Lily Adler, will investigate. Interviewing every single person several times. It was an ending I didn’t suspect. This was fourth in a series but worked very well as a stand alone. This is exactly what I needed and would recommend unconditionally. Much thanks to the following for allowing me to review early

“Murder at Midnight” is the fourth book in the Lily Adler Mystery Series, but I could easily follow along once I got through the first couple of chapters. Set in 1816, some guests attending a ball can’t make it home because of a sudden heavy snowstorm. The host, Lady Grantham, offers her hospitality, but they wake up to a murder. Lily is one of those guests. She is a young widow who attended with her family and is known for solving mysteries. Lily immediately becomes involved in this one. Gossip and innuendos can ruin a young woman’s reputation and put a family friend, Amelia, right into the suspect’s chair. Amelia’s brother, Jack, was Lily’s husband’s best friend and is now hers. There are developing relationships, and hidden motives interweaved into this story, along with solving a murder. This is for you if you enjoy historical mysteries with a strong female character.

In this fourth book starring widow turned PI Lily Adler Lily solves a classic locked house mystery using her smarts, deductive reasoning and sharp observation skills. It’s a rare heavy snow that unexpectedly traps neighbors and acquaintances in what should have been a holiday party. One of the quests is murdered and it is up to Lily, with the help of family friend Jack Hartley, to solve the murder. This is a fun, well written series and I enjoy watching Lily not settle for the life assigned her as a widow.

Murder at Midnight is another great installment of the Lily Alder series. I very much enjoy Katherine Schellman's novels. They provide great enjoyable reads and I always am easily drawn into the story and devour them quickly.

This series is great! A strong female who defies the norms for her gender during the time period. The end of this one left me trying to turn to find more pages. Hoping the next installment doesn't take long as the story cannot end with all the loose ends.
A murder, friends or are they frenemies trapped due to weather, the politeness required of their place in society.. what could possible go wrong?!

Another charming entry in the Lily Adler series, this time in the classic mold of "characters trapped at a house party." Schellman weaves together numerous tangling threads of motivations, secrets, and outright lies, keeping the mystery intriguing right to the end. Recommended for fans of Deanna Raybourn and Anna Lee Huber!

After becoming a widow at a relatively young age, Lily Adler enjoys freedoms many of her female Regency-era peers do not. When a snowstorm descends upon the home of the neighborhood ball she is attending, she suddenly finds herself a guest at an unexpected overnight house party. Later that night, a murder occurs, and, having had previous experience secretly solving crimes, Lily teams up with the local magistrate to investigate. With limited days before the snow thaws and the house party breaks up, Lily must race against time to make sure a killer doesn’t go free An excellent Regency read with a surprising conclusion!

Picked this book up in the middle of the series, but I think it can be read alone. Lily Adler and her family are invited to a ball at Lady Grantham's home only to be stranded with several other guests because of a terrible snow storm. When one of the visitors is shot to death, all signs point to the younger sister of Lily's friend Jack. Rumors have been flying about Amelia and the victim, but she refuses to devulge what went on between them adding to the rumor mill. With everyone captive because of the storm, all guests are edge because there is a murder amongst them. Lily and her brother-in-law investigate and find surprising results. Going back to read the others in this series because I enjoyed this so much.

4.25/5 stars! This is the fourth book in the "Lily Adler Mystery" series. As a fan of Deanna Raybourn, I was excited to read this recommendation. This book was a cozy, sweet historical mystery book. Lily was charming and sassy in equal measure. An enjoyable who-done-it that is perfect for a light, comfy read.

British murder on the Orient express, but put everyone, with their wild personalities and slew of secrets, into a manor house in a snow storm? Yes please! Schellman is quickly becoming a favorite author for me. Her storytelling leaves nothing out! There's no annoying side tales, no loose ends left dropped behind, and every character gets a full story that you can't wait to hear. I loved that Jack returns to us in this installment and we get to meet his family as well! The cast is only growing, but never beyond the point of being able to keep everyone straight. This was truly a surprising story and a wonderful take on the "confined space, everyone's a suspect" mystery style. Highly recommend!

I just love the character of Mrs. Lily Adler! This is my second read Katharine Schellman novel to date. The writing is done so well and the mystery builds to a crescendo finish. Interesting venue for this murder mystery…. Stuck in a mansion, after an elaborate Christmas ball given by a wealthy widow, due to a massive snow storm. A murder is committed during the night! This is the 1800s and everyone is quite refreshingly gentile until “cabin fever” sets in! Cozy up in your favorite spot and enjoy this lovely book. I look forward to reading the next installment of this interesting series. #MurderatMidnight #CrookedLaneBooks, #Netgalley.

This addition to the series was just as enjoyable as previous books. I was very happy to see some forward momentum in Lily’s personal life and I hope that momentum continues in the next book.
